I took my lyrics I made back in the original GW2 Launch and decided to re-release it. Enjoy!

’Twas the night before Launch, when all through the forum
Not a decent thread posted, to cure us of boredom
We open the Client with no time spare
In hopes that our Revenant soon would be there
The Tome clicking was endless, there was not a shame
As we Re-rolled our reserved character names.
The Fanbois were nestled all snug in their seats
Sipping their Red Bull and eating good treats

When outside the window arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the computer to see what’s the matter.
When, what to my monitor hazed eyes should appear,
But a Revenant Rytlock, Blindfolded and geared!

He invoked fabled Legends, so lively and quick
Was Arenanet trolling me so soon with a trick?
Outrunning a Centaur as fast that they came
And Rytlock whistled, and roared, and called them by name;

Now, Jalis! Now, Mallyx! Now, Ventari! Now, Shiro!
Glint is also upon us, our one Elite Hero!
The Airships are stranded, have haste and be quick!
Adventure’s upon us, and Mordrem kittens to kick!

As the minions of Maguuma all fell to a drop.
Our Hero sprang away with no time to stop.
But I heard him exclaim, as mists vanished out of sight,
“HAPPY HUNTING TO ALL, AND PUT UP A GOOD FIGHT!”

I don’t want to tell you how you should do, but take this as an advice : “why don’t you try to first understand and master the flow of this new class while enjoying the content and popping to hero point that happen to appear around you so that you don’t feel forced to unlock the spec?”
I know it is not what you wanted but especially in the case of Rev/Herald, you have a lot of new toys to play with before you feel you know the class by heart.

Why are you in such a big rush?

Unless something is time limited you’re not forced to rush through anything. If you do so you really have no one to blame but yourself when your experience is “ruined”.

You’re ruining your own HoT experience. Anet isn’t responsible for that. Some of those points are undoubtedly for the skin anyway, not the spec.

I have to say I don’t understand the forums.

Previously: Everything is too easy! We have nothing to do! Give us something, anything to do!

Now: OMG! You want us to do stuff??? This is uncalled for! Way too much to do!

Poor Devs.

Well.. the devs misunderstood.

-> Players: “Too easy”

  • Easy = not hard
  • Players: “Hard = challenging!”
  • Devs “Hard = timeconsuming!”
  • But: timeconsuming =/= hard!
  • Timeconsuming = grindy
    -> Players: “Too much grind”

There’s always going to be people who see effort as grind. Not much one can do about those kinds of people except laugh at them derisively, and then go on to play the game. -Sid

Revs right now are one of the top dps/support/tanky class in the entire game

No, definitely not.
Big Revenant supporter here and I will be maining the class as well, but we have to stay realistic here. DPS is high but still below Elementalists. We have a strong projectile destruction, but unfortunately that is sub-par compared to reflects. We don’t buff as much might as a Phalanx Warrior. We don’t provide stealth, and little weakness and blinds. Even vulnerability which is one of the Revenant’s strongest points isn’t actually worth taking a Revenant over something else.

For fractals and dungeons I don’t see Revenants taking a core slot. Raids are a different story, but we only know 1 boss so far so I don’t know how much point there is discussing that. Then again, we don’t know how the level 51+ fractals will look either.

Revenant is a very strong and versatile class however. But we don’t really bring anything unique other classes can’t bring on top of even more stuff.

Herald shiro is god-tier OP and I haven’t seen any notes for its nerfs prior to release. it will either get smacked down in the new patch notes, or we’ll see it in the top tier meta comps along with the chrono for the first pvp season.

Posting the same thing in multiple threads doesn’t make it any more true. Herald/Shiro is going to get wrecked by Reaper and others. The game isn’t balanced around 1v1s.

Overpowered Passive Traits

Agreed.

Stability is a menace and should be removed on all classes. If necessary we could have a new system where in order to get stability, you must type in the chatbox: ‘Stability plz 123’. This would allow fast typers and psychics to be rewarded for their superior intellect and reflexes whilst punishing morons, muggles and people with bad keyboard skills.

Stunbreaks should also be removed. If people want to avoid stuns they should have to dodge. There’s no sense in having these buttons that get you off scott-free. We should have an increased number of stuns and other control effects on all professions. None of these should be passive effects. This will promote the ideal of saving your dodges meaning anyone who wastes them on evading dps attacks should be punished as they are obviously idiots.

We should remove all passive traits and replace them with active skills of your choice. This would increase build diversity and send those filthy, disgusting casuals straight back to hell. Those imbeciles should never be able to keep up with a game that’s meant for champions.

I’m with you, brother.

Someone needs to get RIOT and Valve on the phone and let them know that LORD HESELTH, praise be, doesn’t like passive traits and KNOWS they are lazy and terrible game design.

Seriously, if passive traits were bad game design then DOTA2 and LoL would not be the eSports Juggernauts they so clearly are. The amount of passives in those games is frankly pretty incredible, most carries have 50% of their skills as passives.

I think the OP and LORD HELSETH, praise be, fail on a fundamental design level, seriously would you rather them replace passives with a buff that you need to refresh constantly as its duration is the same as its CD? That’s the same type of “skill” that makes StarCraft 2 an unplayable mess, increasing APM for the sake of teh hardcorez at the cost of the rest of the player base.

You guys giving me examples of other traits similar to this are clearly missing the point entirely.

Then make a general post in pvp section listening all these kind of traits instead jumping to rev section and bashing for some “op” stuff. Right now you attacked rev class ignoring everything else in this game.

So I was looking through the Revenant traits to see what the meta is probably going to be (PvP wise) and I came across the kind of trait that makes me reluctant to invest a lot of time in this game.
‘Eye for an Eye’ – When disabled by a foe with [CC] taunt that foe and gain protection
An even stronger version of ‘Mirror of Anguish’ (from the passive mesmer chaos traitline), completely passive and very strong in a PvP/1v1 situation. This kind of trait is cancer. It doesn’t require any sort of play to activate and it gives a chance for bad players who can’t dodge CC to be completely forgiven, and even get rewarded for being bad by having an opportunity to land a burst no problem if the opponent has already popped their invuln. Why the heck would you design a mechanic that not only forgives, but rewards players for being bad? Absolutely horrible trait.

Not sure if you understand how this trait works but first lets call out some other traits you missed that are just as Potent.

Shared Anguish-
Gives the ranger a free CC clear and moves it to the pet, stopping you from landing any CC to stop an attack OR set up burst.

Self-Regulating Defenses-
Makes the engi Immune to everything, giving them the chance to run, reset, and then return to the fight. Also stops killing blows( Which is funny considering that Vamp runs got changed because everyone complained about them, ut things like this stay the same)

Hard to Catch-
Besides the fact this is in a really really bad line. This pretty much allows a thief to continue evading. Trait wise this is also pretty strong, just in a worthless line

Last Stand and Defy Pain.
Both strong traits.
Both can change the outcome of a fight.

Earths Embrace-
10 stacks of stab anyone?

Reapers Protection-
AoE Fear, pretty much the same thing as Rev, EXCEPT they don’t auto attack you.

Retaliatory Subconscious-
Blocks on top of more blocks.

See there are a lot of things in this game that make it harder to just CC and burst, some of these have been in the game since launch.
Why are you just now getting around to noticing this?
Learn to play around it. Don’t drop everything all at once. Or ask anet to remove all trait gained stunbreaks.
See how well that goes.

Unwavering Avoidance – Gain stability after you dodge
Again, essentially passive so when bads random dodge but fail to actually dodge anything meaningful they gain passive stability which makes it harder to punish for wasting their dodges. Dogkitten trait.
ANET Please for the love of god stop designing traits like this, they literally ruin the game

Sorry..
I honestly can’t believe that anyone worth there salt in any type of pvp environment has a problem with stability on dodge, ESPECIALLY considering that the line you are complaining about does very little for damage and or even condi removal ( which is one of the biggest weaknesses for a rev so far).

But I am feeling generous today.
http://en.gw2skills.net/

Show me the build that is giving you so much trouble and I can give you a few builds that can counter it.

BAck to the first point.

Even when taunted- you still take damage.
Unlike other traits which either give you a chance to avoid damage. OR block damage OR CC the other player in turn with something that stops there actions as well.

There is already a form of that, called the heart of the mists. the pvp lobby serves as a method of messing around with any class with everything unlocked. Not only are there areas where you can attack golems to see what your abilities can do and just test them out, but there are also npcs that you can attack as well (all of them are npcs that are used in game modes, there are ghosts that represent a group of npcs with a champion like npc, two above veteran but not quite champion level npcs and also a group of npcs that represent players of each class, but don’t represent play of other players).

There’s also other testing mechanisms in the heart of the mists like the dodge exercise golem (though now there’s one in each starting zone, so i’m not sure how useful that is exactly), but in any case, there is already a place that exists for that.

Context is everything. E.G. I landed a 42k with SotM. However:

  • It was against an Ice Brood (PvE)
  • 25 might, 25 vuln
  • Salad, Slaying potion, and all that jazz
  • I got the perfect angle the I could probably never land again
  • Warrior banners
  • To add insult to injury, I evaded the wolves that were trying to knock me down mid attack.

Is it an OP weapon that needs a nerf? Not at all. Did I get the world’s perfect setup for that attack? Probably as I never could recreate it.

Rev is just the new kid on the block. So, it’s easy to understand why there’s an influx of complaints since few people new how to fight against it.

It’s so easy to ignore UA. I can’t tell you how many times my UA has just been shaken off like it was nothing by literally every profession.

I’d appreciate if everyone stopped telling me UA doesn’t need a nerf, I said I don’t mind it being the same. However UA is definitely strong, I don’t know what you mean by easy to ignore as it can deal 14k+ damage without the need to be full berserker.
My problem is SotM.

Then stop making up numbers. I’ve used it all weekend. Often with 10+ might against glass thieves and never seen it come close to that. I don’t think I’ve seen it hit for more than 8k all weekend and thats with marauders. The majority of the time the target will either dodge or stealth, or eat 5k standing still.

People keep making up these ridiculous exaggerations. If half of them were true Revs would be running around with 100% win rates.

+1 I completely agree, with all these outlandish claims I must be playing revenant wrong. Cause it seems to me I should just steamroll every other class….. right?

Roy was the one who made the changes for Rev and they are good ones. UA is fine and absolutely necessary for PVE. The damage for UA goes down dramatically the moment you introduce even one more target to the picture. And you can dodge, use retaliation, use confusion, etc.
