Personal politics are ugly enough in the real world.

When you bring those elements into a space we’re supposed to be having fun in, it turns it ugly, especially when it’s centered around low-information “voters” who saw a pretty white Mary Sue and just tossed their tokens at that.

Now you’ll have just under half of the playerbase, the majority of which have probably been around since GW1 days and spent more money on the game, feeling robbed of interesting content and an interesting character in the mix. When that large a number of your playerbase feels cheated by a slim majority, especially when the mechanics are in question, you’re going to have a lot of negative fallout just like in an actual “election”.

We got a tease of something as monumental as witnessing THE FALL OF A GOD.

Now we’re going to get an aesthetic retread of CoE.

For Serious,

Never ever do anything like this ever again.

Here’s the thing. This new fractal will basically be a watered down version of CoE. Not to mention, if this was so important to GW2 lore, do you think they’d just abandon it? The Fall of Abaddon is not important for the way GW2 is headed. The Thumanova Reactor apparently is.

What this means is that even if Evon won, we’d get both eventually – because we’d get the one that was voted in (Abaddon) and then since the reactor is so important, we’d eventually get that too. Now we’ll only see the one.

I don’t know why we have to fight the Fire Ele again. I fight him at least once a day already. Such a sad day for Evon supporters.

The Abaddon fractal was the only thing that mattered in this election. Thaumanova is garbage and so are the temporary reductions. No one cares even remotely about the RP nature of this election. It was about adding the Abaddon fractal and that is an absolute incontestable fact.

And now it’s gone. Anyone who supported Kiel should be ashamed and should leave.

Right now.

Your own logic beats your statement of incontestable fact…lol…the majority won…what MOST people wanted, they got…

People here at the studio where as passionate about this as you folks, so we had both Kiel and Gnashblade supporters. I for example play a charr, so I was obviously on #TeamGnashblade.

Don’t you think it was a bit unfair though? You guys essentially designed Gnashblade to lose.

I disagree. Some people thought Gnashblade was set up to win. I think what this really boiled down to is hardcore vs casual players.

If this was the case, then wouldn’t the hardcore players have won? They play more, which means they should have gotten more support tokens…hardcore players also would probably have deeper pools of gold than casual players, thus being able to buy support tokens. Guess you newbs didn’t really want the win :P

This election is turning into a fraud. There’s no way Evon could be losing this. Something’s fishy.

Those who vote for Kiel are conspiracy theorists who think RNG is the root of all evil. Don’t buy into their tin-foil hat theories. Vote Evon, for justice!

You just espoused a conspiracy that everyone who votes for Kiel is a “conspiracy theorist”…too bad you can’t see how stupid you sound

It’s a pretty bad idea to have people who don’t even run fractals get to determine which fractal is made on the basis of “we like Ellen better, Evon is evil!” and cheaper waypoint costs, don’t you think?

I’m not looking forward to an inquest reactor fractal when I already run an inquest reactor dungeon nearly every day.

This has to be the worst beastmaster tree I’ve ever seen in a game with a ranger/hunter. Half the really good pet related traits are NOT even on the BM line…not sure I really understand it…even the increased healing..really?! in the BM line?! That shoudl be in the nature magic line with vitality and boon duration should be in BM line, especially considering that many of the bonuses regarding you and your pet involve boons! With such a broken kitten BM tree, I will NEVER play a beastmaster in this game.

Statistically smaller subset of the population.

It has everything to do with Kiel being portrayed as the ‘good guy’ and Gnashblade as the ‘bad guy’…and has nothing to do with what you said. In fact, your comments are wasted…

Kiel seems a bit too perfect to me. But I also dislike her because she is a Lionguard trying to get on a pirate council. She doesn’t belong there. In fact it’s a bit suspicious.

At least with Evon his goals are clear. He’s sneaky, he’s shady, he is exactly the sort of guy you need for trade negotiations. He’s not evil, he’s a pirate! He’s sly.

Evon’s goals are clear?!! Seriously, is this the type of brain damaged logic that exists in our world today? If he is a pirate, and if pirates employ tricky, deception and thievery, then you NEVER really know what his goals are until he stabs you in the back…lol

i think the issue is that people dont really understand/know how aggro works in this game. as i heard high toughness and wearing a shield puts you on top of the aggro list but other then that…

stealth should never drop aggro completely… it was wrong and got fixed.
being stealthed leaves tine for oyur mates to take over aggro… but with no knowledge of how to actually and actively do thakittens kinda hard.

but thats not an issue with the stealth ability but aagro management in itself.

The fact that no one understands or really knows how the aggro works in this game shows that the aggro mechanics need work. In any given fight I’ve seen aggro change to a multitude of people with no rhyme or reason. In fact, the only class I’ve seen hold aggro consistently is a staff guardian. This shows in brilliant fights AreaNet has designed, with amazing potential, but the fun of the fight falls short because of these aggro difficulties.

Last night is a perfect example of this, I was doing fractals with some guildies and we were fighting the giant ice elemental boss, the one that gets kited around the room. In this fight the boss randomly changes agrro, when one person should be able to maintain, while the remaining members can take the adds and dps the boss. This would make the fight much more dynamic and “fun”. Instead it’s just a stack and pull tactic….boring. But see, it’s not the fight, the fight is designed very well, the aggro wrecks their good work.

Although now I have digressed from the op, sorry folks.

Well, I’m afraid I don’t think 3secs is long enough…especially if someone might have a computer that isn’t quite up to snuff. And if stealth does not drop aggro in this game, then I think they should incorporate something to the stealth mechanic which greatly reduces your aggro if not out right dropping your aggro.
I think most people would agree that there are some aggro issues with this game, so why not start implementing some changes to help fix that?

New Hunters Shot

Scarletdawn.2750

Alright, first and foremost, ty AreaNet for the good changes made to rangers recently. Most of the changes seem to be just right, except for one…the hunter’s shot. I love the premise of the new and improved hunter’s shot, but I think it need some improvement. First off, the stealth effect is a little delayed, it should be instantaneous; it also seems like the stealth effect is determined on whether you hit your target (this would explain the delay), however, the tool tip does not say that “hitting” your target is a requirement for the stealth effect, and frankly, it shouldn’t be…the stealth effect should be automatic and should happen instantly when you fire your hunter’s shot.

Secondly: 3secs of stealth?? This is barely enough time to get 5 steps away from your target. How about 5secs? That would be a little more reasonable. Maybe it could be the same length as a thief’s basic heal stealth…just a thought.

Finally: Aggro! This is absurd…as a ranger we’re alrdy pulling tons of aggro, so why am I pulling aggro after stealthing?? Sometimes I even wait to resume attacking and I’m still pulling the mob of my pet or another player. Stealth should be an AGGRO DUMP.

Additionally when coming out of stealth with an attack that attack should be an automatic crit..100% chance…only the opening attack though, so with multi-shot coming out of stealth, only the first arrow has 100% crit chance.
If changes like this were implemented, hunter’s shot would hold a much greater value for rangers…at this point, it’s more or less and aesthetic joke. If adding these features would seem to make hunter’s shot too OP it could always be balanced by increasing the cool down to 12 or 15secs…if you actually are dumping your aggro, there is no need to be stealthing every 9secs.

Thanks, love to hear people’s opinions on this…but opinions with reasoning
Keep up the good work AreaNet, and please get your aggro issues fixed

Always the target of NPCs?

in Ranger

Posted by: Scarletdawn.2750

Scarletdawn.2750

This is a problem I have noticed as well…aggro is definitely broken in this game. If someone is tanking a boss, that person should be able to get that boss to turn and move where they want them (bosses special abilities excluded, ie leap attacks etc)…but this just doesn’t happen, the boss is turning every which way trying to hit everyone…and as a ranger, with high dps, you happen to be the lovely target more frequently than others. I think the new hunters shot is suppose to help with this, but it’s not doing much at all…will be doing a post about that in a moment, come give your opinions.

Living Story IMO Isn't Good for GW2

Couldn’t agree more Safer Saviour. Although many people seem to have the idea that if ALL living story isnt temporary then we regress to old MMO models, this just isn’t the case. If option A is too temporary, and option B is the stagnant then new options are there…it doesn’t have to be A or B and that’s it.
I’m glad that AreaNet is taking all these things into consideration, and as long as they continue to work and improve their game, I will play it. Guild wars is a good game, and living world is a great concept, they just need to tweak it

Living Story IMO Isn't Good for GW2

in Living World

Scarletdawn.2750

It’s a living story, the world is alive, stuff happens and the world moves on. Here is a real world example.

Hey, here’s something…this is a video game, NOT the real world!

I missed the flame and frost dungeon, but i asked about it in LA and heard some really great stories.

Yeah, reading ABOUT content sounds like sooooo much fun…. I don’t think so!

Also look at it from the business model, they have a game, that is almost one year old. An MMO needs people in it, hell any game needs people playing it. With this model, the feeling you are feeling right now, the feeling of possibly missing some content that you want to play, is exactly why they are doing it this way. In attempts to get you to log in daily, weekly, etc. and play their game.

Unfortunately you are just wrong here, for WoW, being the biggest MMO ever did NOT need a living story to have over 10million people playing their game. Can AreaNet boast as much??

However, to top all this off I have to say, the living story/world concept is brilliant, but there is a problem with execution here. The events in each zone give a much greater feeling of a ‘living world’ than the living story itself. There is really nothing “living” about the story at all: it is planned content, with a planned end date and the temporary nature of this content creates an illusion of a living story. A true living world would introduce something like the Aetherblades, have a main story surrounding it which comes to a close at some point, but the faction really should persist as should some of it’s content to truly give a feeling of a living world, where the Aetherblades continue to have affects upon zones, NPSs, and other pre-existing content.

what if, in the evolving story of tyria, we 1) ran the aetherblades outta lion’s arch and 2) somewhere down the road someone else moved in to those caverns behind the waterfalls and we had to go track them down? that would be living story, and would necessitate the dungeon being temporary.

i love the concept. we have regular dungeons we do as a part of our story, our growth as characters, that TELL the story of destiny’s edge. and we have a team of SUPREMELY talented designers giving us fun, challenging dungeons that support the living, changing story of tyria.

Actually, since dungeons are instances, you can technically have 2 dungeons in the same location. The living story doesn’t suffer because of keeping a dungeon that was story line based…be realistsic.

Scarletdawn.2750

not everything this game releases should be easy, if everybody could do everything then the better half of us would get bored. Sometimes dungeons are too easy, sometimes they are too hard, that’s just life.

you just gotta roll with the blows, accept you might not be able to get these specific achievements and in the meantime level up or get more experienced at hard dungeons, because in the end there’s plenty people managing to do this dungeon with random parties, so it cant be impossible.

My gripe was never with the difficulty of the dungeon, just it’s limited time of availability. 13days is not very much time for a casual player to get in there and really have a bunch of runs under thier belt. I encourage difficult dungeons/fractals/raids, I love it…but don’t take them away after two weeks!
Surely the gw2 world could maintain it’s ‘living world’ concept while keeping dungeon content that arises through the ‘living world’ story.

1. It will grow by adding even more temporary content.

If I increase in height by an inch for 13days and then lose that inch, is that growth? Because that’s what you’re saying…if it’s temporary, it’s not ‘real’ growth.

2. It will grow by adding more permanent content which they’ve recently said they plan on doing.

I am very happy to hear that they will be doing more permanent content, and frankly, there is no reason this Aetherblade dungeon couldn’t be permanent.

4. You’re not missing any of the story. As it’s already been said in this thread there are NPCs throughout the world that you can go and talk to to pretty much hear about everything that’s happened thus far. I’m sooooooooooo sorry that you can’t have everything handed to you on a nice golden plate.

Reading about what HAS happened is a big difference from participating in what IS happening. This isn’t about wanting something on a golden platter, it’s about content being unnecessarily limited.

5. You get to participate in the past content(Well, dungeons) when they inevitably release them to fractals as they’ve said they want to do.

A fractal is not the same as a complete dungeon…and although this is a great way to reintroduce past content they have removed, it still stands that they didn’t need to remove the content in the first place. Then this also creates a new issue with fractal content not actually being new, but just pieces of rehashed out old dungeons no longer available.

6. Yeah, you did pay for the default vanilla game like everybody else. Oh hey, guess what else? I paid for the game too and got it at launch, and technically right now you got more content than I did when I first joined. So not only did you pay for the same game, but you also paid for the same game probably at a lower price, AND with more content than I got when I first played.

With regards to supporting the game, I was talking about the spending of money above and beyond the cost of the game…ie buying gems. And yes, over time, one should always receive more for the same price…or the same amount for a lower price; like a console system dropping in price over time; my slim PS2 was a fraction of the cost of an original PS2; this is just one example, this exists throughout our economy.

To everybody else saying the problem is that there just isn’t enough time to do everything the living story, well, if you don’t have enough time to play maybe 1 hour a day then you probably shouldn’t be playing an MMO.

If you think that 13 days of a dungeon and all the achievements which go with it is ‘enough’ time there is something wrong with you. Even if I had more time to invest I would not be happy with a dungeon available for such a short period of time. Even festival events last a month. Would a month for this event be too much to ask for? And again, why remove the dungeon anyways?

Seriously, you guys probably have way more important things to do than play an MMO if your time is so limited. And if you want to just play games to “relax” then how about you stop playing GW2 if it causes you so much anger that you can’t do EVERY SINGLE THING?

Seriously, where do you get off judging me and what I should be doing with my free time? I have raised a legitimate complaint about a product that I paid for, and one that I would like to continue to support, for gw2 IS a good game. But dude, I was probably playing games when you were still in diapers.

In the end my friend, all you did was attack my actual statements, and not once did you offer a good reason why it’s cool to have a dungeon available for a mere 13 days. Somehow, I think you will find it quite difficult to make any sound argument regarding the ‘goodness’ of temporary dungeons. All it really does is create an elitist attitude, which you clearly possess, telling me to go play Runescape…lol

Okay, seriously! This has got to be the most kittened concept I’ve ever encountered. They are going to go through all the effort to create a cool dungeon, only to remove it 3weeks later? Regardless of the whole living world story concept, this idea of “removing” dungeon content is stupid.
How will the game ever grow if they keep removing content? and now since I’ve joined the game only in the past month, I am missing story content because Anet removed the last story event’s dungeon? And how do I get to participate in this content past? Never? Didn’t I pay for the game like everyone else?

The amount of problems with removing dungeon content, or rather, creating temporary dungeon content, couldn’t be written on an entire page of this forum.
Kudos to the person who started this thread…and AreaNet…shape up, I expect more from a game that I’m investing money in, and I don’t feel I should be punished because I have a wife and child and my game time is limited….
