i kind of want this now…

what if we were cool enough to get something so awesome as to have a toggle ability that would let us have the monkey king animations with an active “buff” effect that grants some other cool things, but its cool, well take the extra dodge ;-; kitten

you know the feeling when you do something that makes you so happy, you just have to get up out of your chair and walk around a little bit? if you dont know what im talking about, then im sorry, because dazelocking a guardian on point with bask, sword sneak skill, and steal skill with improv….just…. its the little things in life that make me love thief XD!

Experience with thief: well, i started thief as the game came out, and for some reason hated it, then went to other things, but you know when you play a game and just cant get into it because it feels boring, only to go back to that one random character that isnt even level 80 and begin to love it so much that you never look back again? thats what thief was for me XD, i do WvW, dungeons, fractals, open world, roaming, you name it, love thief a lot, and hoping to learn more about thief that i didnt know already.

cant wait to attend the classes, what kind of thing are you using to host them?

What really sucks is that good Engi’s are saying that they wont even take the Sneak Gyro. They’re happy with the Box Drop or the Elixer. Fair play if you think the Gyro isn’t great.

However, BAD Engi’s who struggle or dislike Thieves will take the Sneak Gyro and now they have the 1-button-press-go-kitten-yourself-anti-Thief ability. Now the bad Engi’s will be able to beat Thieves with another dumb thing that takes out the skill factor and keeps it to a “who’s build is better” orientation.

The skill ceiling keeps getting lower and lower for other Professions where as the bar of requirement for Thieves gets higher and higher. We slowly become a class which is either 100% Glass Cannon so we can 1 shot on a luck based percentage outcome, some form of Trap Bunker Condi or going to the cheesiest of builds in the “Ghost Thief” build (No idea what the “Ghost Thief” is? Click here, sorry for the blatant stream plug).

all i can think of is the rifle would get some sort of a trap mechanic that would deal some damage and stealth us when someone tripped it, kind of like a…….. stealth claymore, that and probably something like a snipe button, could do something cool like “hit a foe, and gain evaision or vigor for x ammount of time”

Maybe you should count how many times this trait saves you than it kills you?
I met so many thief getting away and survive because of this trait in WvW.

People tend to have hindsight bias, that they only count the things they’re focused on, which is the time it messed you up. They wouldn’t count the time the skill saves them because the number is too big.

Counting the times saved doesn’t justify the times it failed.

If it meant to save, it shouldn’t cause death.

Think of it as doctors getting complaints about malpractice.

Essentially this. Top it off with being forced to take it if you want to invest any points into SA…
Some would rather have a blank trait in its place instead.

Here let’s pick a class you play, and a trait line that’s used quite a bit for said class, and add a minor adept trait that does “Upon reaching 25% HP, there’s a 65% chance to deal X amount of damage to a random nearby opponent and a 35% chance to deal Y amount of damage to yourself”. Clearly, statistically, it will help you more often than not. Great trait!

I agree with you guys this time. I support the removal of Last Refuge and make it a blank trait. I’d rather deal with thieves without Last Refuge. It clearly kills you guys too many times for it to be on the bar. I sympathize you guys alot.

Sympathy coming from a non-Thief is not necessary since it comes as either sarcastic or patronizing — we need not either.

The only statistic I am interested in is if Last Refuge is made to be an option, how many Thieves will actually going to pick it?

The consensus, afaik, from actually Thief players are 0 (zero), no Thief wants this kitten.

in all honesty, yeah it would be zero, just because its now an option, which there are MUCH better options. i dont think i can think of a situation where someone would take it over another SA trait if it were an actual adept trait

i agree for the removal of last refuge, but not for the reason of attacking and getting revealed, because if im getting to last refuge range im not wanting to attack so im running, and if it pops while im running then good. however, on shortbow shots that bounce or CnD ive been revealed whilst still running, the CnD thing is ive gotten low enough to warrent me to begin to run so i go for the CnD and get last refuged before the hit happens, which then reveals me and i die.

but the trait is mediocre, i both like it, and hate it.

i started using the pd build using the healing toughness and condi set, i didnt care that it was op or not, its just the style of play i liked the most XD, tbh if people couldnt counter me with condis then that was their problem XD but i do know what you mean by how powerful it was.

imho, i still feel like playing it, just because it was fun for me and the playstyle is what i enjoyed :/

hi, been gone a while and wondering as i just came back like a week ago if PD was still able to be run, im talking about the signet of malice build, and thinking about dusting off my old settlers gear, i believe its toughness healing and condi. any other builds out there? currently ive been running DP or DD with SB offhand.

1) Blocks are perfectly fine, the deciding factors are what they cost and what the extra effects are, as well as the context of what other skills are available to the same set and what they cost/do. Blanket “x is bad” statements are just unhelpful. You don’t exclude entire elements of a game’s systems to a class because of a blanket assumption. That’s not how game balance works.

2) Trying to apply reality concepts and proper reasoning to a game where Greatswords are used as ranged weapons, Warriors can send other people flying 15-20 feet by jumping up to thigh height and stomping the ground (which would require the lower leg strength and momentum equivalent to a house-sized boulder at terminal velocity), a slow swing of a hammer can launch someone of equal size to the user well over 20 feet, a well-placed arrow from a seemingly ordinary bow and wielder somehow has enough momentum to carry the victim half a football field away, et cetera et cetera. Just don’t bother.

The only legitimate concern is how it looks in-game, animations, idles and so on.

thank you for this….. people dont usderstand this game =/= real logic, how many people do you know that can wear heavy kitten PLATE armor and still outrun anyone….how many people do you know that can stand still pistol whip a foe, and then swing their sword and evade fire? ….pff

d/s 3: Flashing Blades: block the next 3 attacks and teleport to your foe when the last charge is spent. or activate the skill again to blind your foe with a slash.(ment to be a gap closer/block due to dagger specs usually being bursty, just to give it more survivability, and something else besides heartseeker to close gaps.)
[if not activated: block 3 attacks and shadow step to your foe, if activated a second time damage + blind]

P/S 3: Mocking Blow: Block the next attack and teleport to your foe and make them bleed (3 stacks) activate this skill again to cripple your foe and shadow step away from target. (ment to also close gaps, and give pistol a more reliable defense mechanism outside of stealth)
[ment to be a tactical button, choosing between: block + shadow step + bleed, or damage + cripple + shadow step away(like the dagger variant but reducing the “cheesyness”]

3 sounds pretty op, not gonna lie XD i think a S/S build would just become meta because of that XD

5 sounds pretty kitten nice, kind of like mesmer sword 2, maybe take off the swiftness and give it like 5s of vigor, with a 1/2 or 1/4 second of evade i assume this would work like pistol whip?

i wonder if there is just a little group of us who use this build that uses apothecary gear……XD been running apothecary with this build since they nerfed assassins reward, pre reward nerf, this build was just so dumb from the fact it could litterally sit and tank like 7 people easy, post nerf, the effectiveness went down a little, now after this feature pack we get confusion, and the changed to krait runes just adds more icing ontop of the icing we get in 30 tricks, seriously, go try this build with apothecary and SoM and then come back and let me know how it goes XD its pretty powerful, but you sacrifice the hp, so with that setup you get more survivability imho, but it means that you have to play a lot more carefully, SoM and shadows rejuv, more than makes up for the hp, imho

Actually easiest to play are this order:

P/D is really dependent on the quality of opponent given the dependency on CnD.

I agree with this… All you gotta do is carry some condi clear and you are just fine against a pd thief

what happens when the thief begins playing to your weaknesses, bursting you when your condi clear is on cd? also carrion is a good setup for this kind of build, but by far not even the more powerful it could become, dire also looks good on paper, havent tried it yet, due to the lack of dire gear, however i do run with what i think is dire trinkets, relanas band/plague idol. i agree with the listing, but that doesent mean we cant beat things in that list, i destroy hambow, most necros, i think spirit ranger gives me the most trouble. due to spirits taking shots/giving protection, in which case it comes down to how much damage the ranger is doing versus how fast you can kill its spirits

what gear are you using? there are some combinations that make this build really powerful, and some combos that make it bad, also, if you know even more how to use it its strong, but like i said, that strength comes at a cost. wondering if your setup is the same as mine.

i always have free camera on, its a nice feature and tbh i think it should always be on anyways, the way i do it is by holding right mouse and flipping my camera myself, that way i can actually aim myself in any direction i want to go

nevermind i answered my own question, DA does more damage XD just cause of poison and mug, its actually the same as the 10 in cs :/

i know that condi damage wont scale off of pistol mastery, i was talking more of the raw damage of the pistol, ive been trying to boost the flat end damage that pistol does, as well as not sacrificing condi damage.

so, yes im using p/d, and yes ive been using it for quite some time, so idc if its “meta” its just my most preferred build. ive been wondering if it would actually be worth it to take 10 CS and get pistol mastery over taking 10 in DA for mug, i know DA puts poison on your steal, i just havent figured out the numbers. im gonna assume that CS is better because your steal isnt your main source of damage, pistol is, also my gear is full apothecary with dire ascended trinkets, if that makes any kind of difference.

i like how if you use HS like its sposed to be used, leaping through ranger steal, leaping through BP, or as an execute, you autimatically spam it and people feel validated to even think you spammed it, id say about 3 isnt spamming XD

Maybe he said that because he wanted Anet to raise our default HP so we don’t almost squish so fast. He must of felt bad about capping the point so easily.

also, last night was 1v1ing a warr in a sd/dp spec, he beat me and i made a comment about learning a new build, so he asked if condi thief was good. i changed spec and was like “yeah it is ill show ya” killed him, the first thing he said was “kitten cloak” i just laughed and stood there waiting for some more duels and he keeps trying to kill me, so i keep killing him over and over cause he wouldnt leave me alone :/

lol, pretty much, it happened to me when i gave it a second chance, i didnt mean it as a bad thing, just how many of us got swept up in the class xD

i dont know about most of yall, but i have altoholism, but its funny cause as soon as i touched thief again (after leaving it at like 76 for months) im like those cartoons with the heart glasses XD i dont even want to play any of my other 80s cause thief is just…that amazing XD

something to think about, the enemy could be pushing one, and still hitting you thus the blindness would go away and he would have vulnerability on himself, if your blind and you hit a target in stealth the stealthed target doesent get reavealed, you just loose blindness.

yeah i roam alot in wvw, i get some hard matchups, some easy ones, and then there are some where im like wtf….this is bossmode DX most of the people i fight though have those guard buffs, and what looks like exotics, if not ascendeds, the main problem is probably guardians, burning eats me alive, still got to get a way around that one :/

i kill plenty of people in condi spec, i use apothecary with dire ascendeds for trinks

signet of malice, smoke screen, shadow refuge, sword/pistol, pistol offhand, shortbow, caltrops (for kiting purposes)

suggestion: let the % healing scale off of healing power
why: youve already nerfed most of the healing things so we can only get 1-2 while still using a usable build (you can try and spec for all the healig things, but the spec would not be as solid as something else) why not let the people that go glassy get a decent grandmaster trait that allows them to actually survive instead of wasting a slot and looking dumb.

What: Thief downstate

Why: It is annoying to have to stomp every single thief, all the time. It’s just not funny anymore.

They attack, I retaliate. They go invis, I drop my wells. They go down. Takes so long to stomp them every time and is just plain annoying and a timewaste. Please take away thief downstate, it’s not like they have a chance to get up anyhow.

if a thief gets SR off before they go down, they are getting back up since their stealth lasts long enough to port out of danger and heal up lol

just had a couple of fights with a couple mesmers, my mentality during the whole fights was “dont over extend, and keep calm, watch for the human movement and stay next to clones” a couple of times i had to camp stealth with cnd in order to regain some footing, then repoen on them with sneak attack from the pistol. i was running p/d sb condi build, with confusion on steal, melted them pretty good, but i still had to make sure i wasnt overextending. versus a condimancer, i had to camp stealth for nearly the whole fight so i could remove conditions and wait out his condi burst, once his burst was gone he was a sitting duck XD

Why: If you accidentally walk into it, it knocks you down! Then I have to kill the thief while laying on my back.
Suggestion: Make it so I can carefully step over tripwire like in movies, and not have to go around it.

imho on a thief condi is good without crit, but thats just my honest opinion

yeah, you could, it would just take the resources to get a full gear set for condis, you might have trouble here and there but it would be exactly the same as your current set, just for condis XD

Solid advice – I had assumed the death blossom would cover enough aoe – i considered it at least on par with sword for this build with the lack of power and increase in bleed dmg, even regarding swords lack of need for energy to fuel aoe – and it seemed to work well enough in dispensing but the clones don’t stop popping! I’ll play around swapping with s/b and sword and see if either of those fit right. But excellent insight regarding the distinction and approach, very much appreciated!

nope DB isnt great in the fact that you 1 waste initiative to try and spam bleeds, and 2 it doesent cripple the clones to keep them bleeding long enough, caltrops works wonders, and with your build, if you have SoM on, the trops will heal you when they hit the clones for every tick they apply bleeding and cripple.

what to nerf: thief dodging animation
why: because they appear to be breaking some kind of barrier within the world that makes them all glossy when they dodge, its really op and it makes it hard for other people to even see them, dey jhust too kitten fayust mang!

in pve i dont think IP would be runnable with just pain response and itself and assassins reward, you would nearly all the time have to run SoM, which then derails your build into a SoM build, sure youve got all these neat little things like a screw driver on your pocket knife, but it is afterall just a pocket knife. SoM is strong for one thing, thief potential to attack litterally everyone around them. IP just looks like strawberries on top of the icing on the cake, where as, SoM is the cake and the icing. so, to just put it in here again, IP is pretty kitten.
