well, the problem is you have no aoe, your using both daggers where you should be using at least one aoe move, sb for ease and range, and sword for damage but its a bit more risky but here are some things you should start practicing vs mesmers

1. look at the enemy movement, is one of them strafing, backpedaling, dodging? the clones are mere NPCs and as such move nothing like a human player.
2. look for buffs, buffs are a great way to tell which one is which.
3. stealth, you should try stealthing and staying among the clones so you have a target for cnd again, and wait out the enemy stealth.
4. like i said before, aoe, even caltrops will help as the clones stand in caltrops and get hella bleeds.
5. youve gotta be quick, and know what you can and cant do, if you steal from a clone, there is a good chance you will get a blind and stealth steal ability, use that to your advantage.
6. if you loose the real mesmer in a fight easy, try putting a target on their head.

hope these will help you fight mesmers a lot better XD

oh, so your saying you should play pve in a pvp spec? and just forgoe the age old rule of just trying to maximize your damage and being more to your team than just a ressurect buddy, :/ also if it scaled with healing power, it wouldnt be op at all, since the other regen traits are grandmaster and you can only get a total of 2 of them, it would just open thief up to what you really are trying to do, someone who goes in your face and can sustain themselves while still dishing out raw berserker damage, there is a reason they call it glass cannon, and not steel cannon lol

if it scaled with hp, it would be so much better, and yes, the specific build im referring to is condi based, apothecary gear, it didnt matter if i couldnt hit someone in the face for 4k, i could hit them with 1k and make them have to use condi clear or else they would take bleeds/poison to the face and die. now that theyve given us a more reliant confusion application, plus torment, bleed, and poison on elite skill why would you want to try and dable in something thats just too far subpar to even bring to the table. d/p and sb seems like the go to for a sustain build, you get every aspect of your build working together, to make it even stronger, versus (yes i know you can get super high kitten crit chance) something thats rng for one, and for two 5% if it was buffed maybe it might see use (keep in mind this is my humble opinion, but even still at the current setup, it looks like more of a waste than a help) what the above person was talking about as sustain was the raw damage to kill someone fast, or to force them to play defensive, that is a perfect and viable way to play, its called executioner.

if your going pve for this and only pve, then sure, possibly, with signent of malice/pistol whip, but once that boss comes around and you dump all your sustain into crits, that 50-89 healing is really gonna help you…

assassins reward, shadow rejuv, infusion of shadow, shadows embrace, coupled with sig of malice, and a rapidly attacking weapon like the pistol, and healing power gear and your all set, believe me, i ran it for months pve, and pvp, and could tank more than warriors or guardians can. if you want a full explination then ill give it to you, but your failing to see that if you really really REALLY want incombat healing, IP is the WRONG way to go. they already nerfed my build into oblivion so its not as powerful as it once was, and in a build like a sustained build you need all the points you can spare, CS gives absolutley nothing in the way of “sustain” im talking about healing as sustain, since thats what you are so hellbent on calling sustain. as i said previously, if you really want sustain, you wont spend any points beyond 5, maybe even 10 (thats kind of pushing it though) into CS, you would put it elsewhere where the “sustain” is leaps and bounds higher than IP.

lolol, ill agree to some extent with you there, mesmers are pretty annoying, and dangerous, but there is always something you can do to pick out the real one instead of clones also, in some builds, mesmers actually help you beat themselves by giving you clones XD

IP…..is really dumb….like…forrealz…… my old build could out sustain anything in pvp, save bosses, but even then bosses would only hit me for about 1/4th of my hp. IP is kittening dumb….if you need sustain then you shouldnt be going into cs really…… SA and i think its acro grandmaster now, are all the sustain you need, plus combine that with healing gear, holy kitten its stupid, ill let you in on a secret, toughness, healing power, congratz, you can now tank 99% of the pve content.

what kind of weapon are you using when you are fighting a mesmer? and how do you fight them exactly? there are simple things you could practice so you can stomp them in the face.

i still cant see it in any light :/ like panic said not attacking here, but wouldnt panic strike be oodles upon oodles better for lets say a p/p setup? or even a s/x setup cause you know, free condi that roots them in place for a nice amount of time

like everyone else, speaking from a person who suffers altoholism, ill note that while i was still searching for the proff for me, i had a thief level like 70 something, and so it remained for a LONG time, then one day while i was bored i was like, ill just get this to 80, havent looked back since, thief is so much fun, but, it comes at a pretty steep learning curve, i would advise AGAINST plvling it via crafting, think of it as swinging in the major leagues when you just picked up a bat for the first time.

also like its been stated before, you should learn the different timings, and attack ranges, specially if your going dagger dagger, as a thief in your face cries CnD to the rooftops, a tip, you can be running into an enemy, and hit the CnD, then turn whilst still inside the enemy and still get your CnD off, practice telestomping, what your teles can and cant do, practice black powdering things often, practice circle strafing, learn big telegraphs and practice dodging at all levels of endurance regen. also practice what you can and cant take, like for instance a burst skill from a hammer, you need to dodge those priority over a knock back skill. also practice running, and hiding……for cereal……go play hide and seek in wvw whilst under leveled so you can understand routes, tricks like decent of shadows to get a free stealth and such. thief is just bursting with tricks and stuff, but most of all, have fun with it.

under the conditions you posted, 2138 pre backstab, and 2338 post backstab, after revealed wore off back to 2138

this does not change power number or tooltip damage of any skills. And as far as it goes, I failing to notice any stable damage gain on anything at all.

actually it does change the damage on tooltips, just note your double strike before, and after the backstab.

if you want the setup im currently using to retest ill post it here, but i think i might use a different trait than this one, not worth the grandmaster slot imho

hey everyone, comming back after a long break.

so, ive been messing around with this revealed training thing and what ive been seeing is that by my combat log, the extra power does not apply to your first strike from stealth, ill keep doing some more testing with and with out and showing yall the numbers.

all of these numbers were done on a heavy golem with fury as well as the 5% bonus from dagger training in the heart of the mists.

the tests were done with the following stats
ferocity – 946 – 213%
power – 2138
precision – 2039 – 64%

my BS crits were hitting about 4k upwards of 4.9k with out the trait on the heavy golem.

with out the trait and 1 stack of might, i’m critting about 5k – 5.1k consistantly.

since one stack of might is 35 power, i decided to kick it up a notch and do it with 6 stacks of might which is 210 extra power. already i can see a huge spike in numbers, off of two consecutive crits with the same buffs on it ranged from 5.3k to 6.7k.

now if this trait did infact buff the in stealth damage we would not only see a buff to power whilst in stealth, but we could project to see numbers more in the range of 5.5k+ from stealth the first hit.

the mats are:
1 cured hard leather square
1 ecto
40 lump of primordium
50 spores

got it for leatherworker

the one thing i really hate, is the guardian gs skill binding blade, which can track you even 2 seconds into your stealth, if i was to shadow refuge, and then walk up to a guardian, his little projectile thing can home in onto me and get me…..which is absurd seeing as how i the thief am 1 in stealth, and 2 normal stealthing logic would determine him unable to use a skill that can home into a target that he cannot see initially, before the cast….thats my main gripe with theese kinds of skills, the others i can see as a balance, and anet probably wont change that mechanic, it is rather annoying to get that ele lightning beam on your forehead in stealth and still take oodles of damage :/

some good players, can work around it, but most often then not, if you are playing your cards right, knowing where you are, and can psych out your oponent to waste his/her dodge rolls, then yes, its pretty easy

or you can

1. find people in wvw who are good
2. fight them untill they cant kill you and another of their teammates comes along
3. feel good that it would have taken 2+ to beat you

well ill tell you one thing, the medium armor, most (if not a little less than half) is actually pretty good, this comming from someone who has all 3 medium classes and only 1 light class XD the heavy armor, yes, a bit on the wonky side, the light armor……..are we either all kittens, or are we going to a huge ball? XD albiet some of the light armor is really nice, but if im going to dress like a kitten, i want to atleast look like if we had sex i would have to kill you afterword, thats kind of my motto, if i look good, i have to look dangerous at the same time XD medium armor on the other hand, has a lot of good themed armor, not too much of its cartoonish, its definitely fantasy which is good, but not cartoony in my honest opinion, now some of the stuff, like cough rugged cough now that is a bit over the top XD sooooooo huge ._. i look like some kind of person whos going out to war cause the leather is so thick XD

im fine with it, and actually im a bit excited for it, also with the implementation of the stat distibution on ascended gear it looks like we are getting something unique, wow only had a “take x ammount of y specifically, to convert it into a finite number of x” this on the other hand is going “yo, you wanna switch up your build? you need different stats? ok no problem luie, just go to this guy here, and badaboom, you got your new stats kid.” i think that speaks for itself in tearms of gear progression and a gear treadmill, if there is a treadmill, its very VERY small, just because of the new way they are implementing the stats, no more need to have x ammount of gear sets now, unless of course you want to get different skins, then by all means thats up to you, personally, i find it hard to deck my characters out in multiple armor sets, just because i find myself fond of one style of looking for one character. just my two cents

well thank you for the stern comment i was testing the levels of toughness versus vitality, and im not glassy on my pistol spec, im nearing the 1,9k toughness benchmark with about 1k+ healing

thanks for the feedback, on the topic of being glassy, i dont feel its that glassy, im used to 15k hp, on pistol dagger, and thats with around the same toughness, the only thing i would consider me to be glassy against is condis, i still havent gotten used to the condi spam from everything, even after a year XD but thats just me. i havent gone to test this in spvp, mostly because of the gear choices, i wont be able to get this spec precicely, and money is a little tough atm, gotta go farm, but in my experience so far on my current set its mainly the conditions that do me in, i can sit and take face shots not for too long, like if lets say a warrior got me in his chain stun id go down pretty low, but id be ok, so its not like im taking 2 hits and dead. just my experience so far XD

editing this so there isnt a double post, ive changed up the build, to include the daze on steal, which im finding is quite nice, ive just gotta get the playstyle down. anyone else like using 30 tricks? also i took your advice and went with a knights amulet for pvp, its ok i guess, i dont die as much as if i was using say valkeries. but i am squishy as a kitten with 1k toughness

as for counter play, are you kidding me? there is an asston of counterplay in the meta right now, with condis alone……its not our fault you either play full bezerker gear because you want to burst someone down like a thief, which mind you has class mechanics to help them stay alive seeing as how thats what they are designed around, and then you end up dying, its not our fault you go on youtube and look at all the builds then go ingame and try to do them yourself to only fail, because that person on youtube made a video for 1 reason, because they are good at what they do, just like thieves, good thieves, make the class “op” or strong, ive seen, and killed, plenty of horrid thieves, ive also seen, and been killed by lots of quality thieves, not once did i scream “OP” because i myself took it upon myself to get better so i could beat those thieves

so what you want is for anet to make the thief class not a thief but more sort of a…..zerker mesmer? with out you know the class utility and all that, so in essence…..a class that despite its arch type, cant infact do any of the things its suposed to do, defy fantasy logic (because we all like not having any form of logic in our games). or is this just a cry for help because when a thief goes invis you stop what youre doing, instead of spamming auto attack or all your aoe abilities as fast as you can on the spot they vanished? i get it if he has teleports, but seriously people? why dont you fix warrior stuns, first, then come complain about a CLASS MECHANIC……gtfo

only the OP worriors and necros start with 18k, enjoy the thief class class

you can’t tank, but you can stalth and be invincible during that time !

you dont become invincible, you just become not targateble, if someone spams auto attack right next to you you are still going to get hit, if you are in aoe, you are still going to get hit

Swap it with shadow’s embrace if you must. anything else would be underpowered compared to its current state for a build that utilizes it.

Shadows embrace feels kind of strong – that’s considered one of the “Required” traits for SA, and its a rather powerful one.Giving players another major trait they can take (since one of their bread and butter traits was moved to minor) seems like too much. I can’t say for sure it would be OP, but at first glance it certainly feels so.

Shadow protector is a good choice specifically because (IMO) it’s powerful enough to be useful, it just exists among other traits that overshadow it.

shadow protector is certainly decent for a stealth heavy build but it will not have the potential to really save you like last refuge currently does. shadow’s embrace is the only trait that can potentially have the same effect.

If we’re limiting ourselves to something that will save you in a pinch (like LR is designed to do), just have LR give the thief 2-3s of automatic evade at 25% – there is literally no stealth based solution that will always work – either it will at times screw the thief, or at times be OP.

im with this idea, 100%, i cant tell you how many times ive been screwed in the kitten by stealthing at 25% while my cnd is going off, or stealthing at 25% while my auto attack is flying through the air, only to reveal me when it lands, sure its saved me a couple times, but that was when i was stunned and not able to do anything, then at the end of the stun i dipped just under 25% and got stealth, other than that ive died many times on account of that trait :/

i dont know about you, but i dont really like daggers as condi, except the oh dagger, cause it pairs nicely with things for the cripple so you can zone your opponent into using his/her dodges, i find most times in wvw when i get the cnd off, they dodge my auto attack out of stealth, i dont really care that much, cause i just use it for the bleeds, and plus its a dodge they just wasted not on my cnd, the build im using now is 5/0/30/20/15 5 into the power tree just for that extra poison on stealing, which is actually a pretty nice poison.
