Just saw the patch notes – thanks for the input guys!
Anyone else having problems since the patch with Distortion? I’ve had 2 situations in which I had a full distortion up and was still cleaved down (no, not by retaliation) from 80% hp during a stomp. Audio and graphical effect still running, buff still present on my bar. I don’t have a video of it yet but will work on it tomorrow.
Anyone else having similar issues?
Edit: Pyro Most attacks in game are AE of some sort it’s pretty much impossible to kill the phantasms without also killing the clones. 90% of the people will use their biggest AE to clear illusions in a fight, esp if you run a PU build and they are trying to get to you.
……lol.
I just run Knights and dodge well. Not a huge damage loss but the survivability gain, while running Ether Feast, is pretty significant.
Also, run boon rip for the second tier trait in Power line. Lots of boons with the current meta.
I like the way these rewards are separated. It provides more options to obtain your items. Honestly the tracks are awesome. I have obtained 7 ascended boxes with 4 of them being the stats I want out of 4 completed tracks.
P.S: Expect pve hating comments below.
2 tracks, 0 ascended boxes. Making my way to the third…
Nothing quite like vindication, eh?
Very impressive. I may have to adopt that gear setup for my S/D build. Looks very strong for both defense and offense.
Also stuck 46/100.
In PvE, there isn’t huge amounts you can do. Utilize stealth (3) when you can for a larger damage hit, shadowstep the same way you can with other Shadowsteps (up cliffs, etc) but nothing else, really.
20% faster means 20% less cooldown time…20% of 60 is 12, so 12 seconds off..Dropping it to 48.
Seriously?
I run Knights and Signet of Stone, Wild and Hunt. I use Sword/X Greatsword and am 30/30/10. I could use a bit more durability, admittedly, but I’d change my gear befor spec. Can’t bring myself to give up 30/30/10 for Signets and CritDmg+Moment of Clarity.
I find the build has great success especially against rather glassy setups. Tanky setups give me a little bit more trouble but with appropriate timing and correct pet utilization (not to mention utilizing your sword evades correctly). Greatsword 40-50% autoattack evade uptime is great too.
Tip: Use Troll Unguent pre-emptively or swap for Healing Spring with this setup.. I don’t use it pre-emptively enough and it’s the death of me more often than it should be.

You get diminishing returns after ~30 minutes – 1 hour, which decreases your chances as you spend more time farming for crates.
I spent 2 hours :O in Southsun before remembering.
Where did you get the information on diminishing returns? Also, is that supposed to affect all rares or just the boxes?
I use signet actives all the time, with signet of beastmaster. Stone, wild, renewal, are all good. Hunt is pretty weak, you can get the same effect out of any interrupt with MoC or just casting GS5 into thin air (afects pet only though). Its only real advantage is that you can cast it quite a bit before initiating combat.
I love Hunt! Run speed is amazing and 50% more damage on two mauls in a row (should I time an interrupt right) can kill anyone who isn’t bunker specced, and put a significant dent into anyone who is! Extra 50% on my pet’s next attack isn’t bad either (Can do one for Wolf Leap and one for Bird F2!)
I second this entirely. Monarch Leap has next to no tactical functionality as is.
You are not serious are you?
Evade.
Leap out of melee range.
Leap finisher back to melee range.
Damage.Never mind, you are correct, it needs a 3k heal attached to both leaps, with stability and 10 stacks of might.
/rollseyes
I said Monarch Leap, not Hornet Sting. /rollseyes.
Hornet Sting is great as a disengage. Monarch Leap is a leap with medium damage, only usable seconds after a disengage. If you’re using it as a disengage for survival purposes, your next move probably isn’t leaping back in. You have very little time to do anything between Sting and Leap, and therefore, Monarch Leap has next to no tactical fuctionality . Are we still confused?
Let’s play a game where you’re a little more humble (intelligence wouldn’t hurt either).

One thing to keep in mind is that the skill coefficients are better on the warrior. I just did a little testing in the heart of the mists and it looks like the greatsword has about a .7 coefficient for the warrior’s auto attack, while the ranger gets a 0.55. That means they get about 27% more damage per point of power.
Hundred blades has a power coefficient of ~.55 on each of the first 8 hits and ~1.1 on the final hit. That’s huge. Maul, on the other hand, gets a 1.5 coefficient.
So to compare, hundred blades gets 5.5 damage per point of power, maul gets 1.5. I don’t think pets are ever going to pick up that much slack.
The thing that really makes no sense to me is that a class that reduces damage by dodging a lot has a bunch of skills designed to do constant mediocre damage. You can’t do damage while dodging, so if rangers dodge more, shouldn’t the skills be a little more bursty so they don’t hurt our damage as much?
Hundred Blades is a non-mobile channeled skill with an 8 second cooldown that relies on stun/knockdown/immobilize utilities to make it connect (which in turn rely on foes not carrying stun breaks).
Maul is a mobile, standard skill with a 6 second cooldown that also applies 3 bleeds for 6 seconds, while the Ranger also has pets at his/her disposal to help make up for the damage gap and provide utility.
This is a real apples to oranges comparison, especially considering that Maul isn’t the problem of the Greatsword. The low coefficients on the auto-attack chain and/or the fact that it can’t make up for the MH Sword’s higher damage and perma cripple are the issue.
Are you stupid, or have you not used the skill? Maul needs a stationary target as well to land. Try hitting a target with siftness and no cripples/chills with it. The delay on the hit makes maul VERY easy to dodge.
The same goes for Hilt Bash.
And what the OP is forgetting is that he’s not looking at traits and boon uptime. Tooltips won’t suffice, because a warrior can easily run 70% crit chance and additional crit damage from traits, keep up easily about 10-15 stacks of might, stack vulnerability on their own, high fury uptime, and all of his damage scales with power/prec/crit damage, whereas 30-40% of the ranger’s damage (the pet) only benefits 30% crit damage max, has no increased precision options — and is often dead in group engagements outside spvp.
As a ranger, in wvw and dungeons you will run with a high uptime 30-40% damage handicap.
And that 30-40% of your damage? If it’s not a drake, it does not cleave targets.
P.S. Greatsword auto is REALLY bad.
Sounds like you need to get better at Mauling. It’s really not -that- hard to land. It could use a longer range, however, but it’s not in a -bad- place. Also greatsword autoattack nearly 50% evade uptime, I’ll take it, thanks.
I use 30MM, 30 Skirmishing, 10WS I run Sword/Dagger, Greatsword, signet build with Hunt, Wild and Stone. Maul people for mad damage with Wild&Hunt together, Stone for survivability when unable to avoid damage. Specced for Moment of Clarity to increase damage on Maul as well. Works very well when used properly.

I run Wild, Hunt, and Stone, and use them all regularly. I’m specced for signets to affect me, however, and utilize them to increase my damage and survivability. With a GS as 2/3 knight’s, 1/3 zerker, I can pop Wild&Hunt and Maul most targets for 6-10k (depending on their setup). Works wonders when timed correctly.
I second this entirely. Monarch Leap has next to no tactical functionality as is.
My wolf routinely leap crits for 5.5k to 6k with the same buffs that you’d use for Jaguar/Bird burst.
I’ll take a 5.5k-6k knockdown over a small amount more damage (provided the target isn’t moving), thanks.
I normally run bird for the burst as a second pet but I might try out Snow Leopard as a second for that chill. Sometimes when I feel I need more CC I run Drakehound in addition to my wolf, but 8 seconds of chill is pretty obscene. I run entirely melee (Sword/Dagger, Greatsword) so an 8second chill could give me a huge edge on reducing incoming damage and keeping a target near me. Excited to get home and try that out.
Greatsword/Longbow can be pretty beastly with the right setup. I use 2/3 knight’s gear, 1/3 zerker, run 30/30/10/0/0. Signet setup with Signet of the Wild, Signet of the Hunt and Signet of Stone and spec Moment of Clarity for interrupts in Skirmishing.
I’m having the same issue and have been for the past month. I’ve tried port forwarding, I’ve tried repairing my game, I’ve tried every other suggestion posted anywhere on the internet.
I’m kitten near quitting. I can’t play in fractals or even WvW anymore, and have no interest in doing anything else.
Worth noting that my girlfriend plays on the same modem right next to me and never has this issue. Ever.
Edit: I -believe- I’ve found a solution that worked for me. Typically, I get disconnected every 20-30 minutes. After making some changes, I was able to play for 2 hours with no disconnects, often with many players around.
What I did:
I’m running Windows 7. The first move I made (after trying everything else that was suggested) was to swap the physical port on my modem that my ethernet cable is plugged into. Secondly, I went into my downloaded updates and uninstalled the most recent service pack (Dated Feb 3 or 4). I also uninstalled all of the security packs that were installed in March (when I noticed the problem get excessively bad).
I’m not certain which one made the difference, and they may not have (as it is a bit early to tell, but I’m going to bed for the night) at all. Worth trying, though, if you’re struggling.

I think the issue here is that you’re letting people dictate how you play. I want my JP done, and I don’t care what you WvW heroes are doing right now.
No, it isn’t “bad” to play how you wish. I don’t care about WvW objectives, and you don’t have to either.
“Don’t do PvE in a PvP map” Get a grip, kid.
Edit: No thanks@ “No Combat Zone.” You only have like 40 jumping puzzles in which you don’t need to worry about combat. I’ll keep this one, thanks.
