One thing people have failed to mention here is that it is also tells your enemy that they’re in your sights with the mark mechanic if the mark doesn’t put them immediately into combat then people will just immediately slot reflects/blocks/projectile destruction if they are not up all ready. GG

My bet is on conjures lets not forget the “smith” part. Instead of kits we get holo conjures with different utilitarian themes for each. Either we’re summoning holo off hands or complete weapons no way to know at this point. Could potentially be things like holo cannons or other siege-like weapons but I doubt it.

Also given the light splitting/focus theme of the icons I wouldn’t be surprised if the sword ends up having beam attacks and isn’t melee.

Bow with “attachment” mechanics(via utility/kits that change bow load out)could very much work it makes me remember the Charr personal story stuff the npc choice has Reeva the engineer using longbow in parts (the beginning) and shortbow in other parts of the story if you observe the character? Could be an idea they’ve had floating around for a while. Could be interesting. Feels like there would be too much thief shortbow overlap stylistically though. I think something more magitech oriented could have more flavor.

Every tier seems to have 1 server that completely blows everything out in absurd proportions? Is this caused by bandwagoning or something else?

Are there any tiers/servers that seem to get good matchups worth recommending? Completely crushing the other side is no fun and neither is being able to do absolutely nothing.

Give us a race of Elfs.

Elves have been done before, by just about everyone. Same as dwarves. If we have to be burdened with a new race, lets make it something new and original.

Hell if anything Sylvari are the Guild Wars version of elves. They’re just a younger chloroplastic version.

Is Scrapper worth it?

If you know how to dodge scrapper is nearly useless for pve since the biggest advantages are the block and evade on hammer it does have some niche uses in some very fringe cases. Core engi is superior in almost every way and unlike other HoT Elite specializations there is no direct synergy with the scrapper trait line and other engi traits and after the last balance patch some scrapper traits have been further devalued now that daze was removed from gyros but hey that trait is still there and the same to modify your daze duration that you have very limited access to now.

Anet’s matchmaking system isn’t smart enough to prevent class stacking. That and the pvp player population is so low in recent history if they added it better be ready for 1hr queues.

It absolutely needs to be a stunbreak without that or evade frames its just something you take sometimes to reduce travel time when running around in open world and that’s it.

There is some niche use in wvw roaming and using it as a blast finisher in water+repositioning tool but I’d rather a stun break in wvw with the kind of crap you can run into.

I’d still rather Skritt over Tengu personally. To make Skritt work it would have be a smarter Skritt without relying entirely on the collective all the time but they’re so deeply involved in the machinations of the world that it seems the most appropriate. Most Tengu tend to just want to bury their head in the sand and go hide some where and watch everything die and burn around them, no thanks.

That and I want my Skritt engineer :}

Cast time has to absolutely be reduced with the level of burst that currently exists. Confusion should probably be added to the removed conditions. Non-Death healing at end of duration needs to be good. The toolbelt skill needs substantially more range rather than having to be face hugging the opponent for it to land.

So when you say ‘reduced’, you automatically create a comparison. Are you comparing to pre-hot mesmer or to GW1 mesmer?

I’m comparing it to it’s other skills not necessary it’s existence pre-hot or exclusively GW1 (but GW1 comparison is certainly there). Just mainly where the focus of their slotted skills and weapons compared to the variety that exists gets reduced to the set that falls into facilitating boon sharing/alacrity. It may just be the other skills need to be re-balanced to some degree to make them more appealing comparatively.

I’m also still not sure if this is the community unable to think outside of a box or if the content and game design is just dictating the route it has taken.

For raids and some fractals, chronos are more useful as an alacrity/quickness bot because our personal DPS can be so miserable due to our class design.

So it basically just comes down to the fact that those skills are too good and other utility / damage the class can bring is just weak by comparison? I’m all for playing what ever is fun but if other builds fall into a category where say they are considerably weaker than any other class in the game at said task it just isn’t going to sit well with me in terms of over all game play experience even if it’s just open world.

Is this all mesmer is in most of the game modes, is there really no use or viable utility for them aside from this now ? Is it because nothing else is good or because the game content is dictating this route ?

I come from a long history of GW1 mesmer. I loved it truly my favorite class/skills across any game I’ve ever played including pen & paper rpgs and all console/pc games over decades. I really want to get into mesmer in GW2 but it seems like its just boon share and spam skills that give alacrity now? I’ve seen people raging at mesmers even in open world content where it doesn’t matter much for not being setup for this.

Thematically I love axe. With the recent buff it saw back on July 26 is there any power builds where axe comes into an acceptable range comparatively to other power weapons i.e. with in single digit percentages? If anyone out there has done the path on it post changes(2 bounces +40% base dmg). Or am I stuck going condi and grinding out viper armor?

A while back I saw a post and some screenshots about a core condi ranger build breaking 34k dps. I can not find this post the search function is awful not even sure it was here in this sub forum but perhaps someone can point me in that direction? This was a selfish build focusing on dmg which seems like it would be pretty solid solo wise.

tldr; looking for the core condi ranger build / gear setup that was pushing 34k+ dps on golems

Engi will be refused from the vast majority of raids out there pug raids, guild raids etc, their rotation is very skill dependent and requires very low latency to adequately pull off to do competitive dps the stars rarely align for most people. Despite the high level of complexity the engi dps rotation has, you are not rewarded for that complexity in any way you end up with inferior damage and utility.

Other classes quite frankly can do what engi can but better with lower risk factors and higher reliability. Engis bring nothing unique to the table currently.

I main engi and I’ve started working on another class that I don’t even enjoy remotely as much just so I can get a chance to experience raid content with decent groups.

The period of the content drought is painfully obvious here.

I’ve seen massive guilds just up and leave vowing never to return due to balance issues limited build variety in the min/max end for pve, pvp, lack of action in wvw etc(most of these aside from raids were people pre-hot). The updates to fractals taking too long, no dungeons, no new armor sets only outfits. I think outfits could still be expanded a bit with more show/hide options allowing your helmet to show through etc.. could help go a long way without having to be tooled to become full armor.

These are the kind of things your average MMO player expects and ANet hasn’t been delivering for them. This is a failure to meet baseline industry expectations and it’s biting them in the kitten .

I’m terrified that if they drop the ball with living story 3 in any way things will become irreparable. This is my favorite franchise and favorite game currently but I’m starting to wonder if they are being held back by too much internal management or if their game engine really is the kind of sordid mess I’ve heard it to be.

There are a large number of people abusing this bug in pvp right now spamming chat and people with hate speech in hopes of being reported so people crash during matches. Are these people going to be adequately dealt with when reported through other support channels?

I just had a match where it only worked 1 out of 4 times even after trying PT/other skills.

edit: to clarify it executes, you go into a mist form you do not evade, you do not move(and can not), you do no damage your’e frozen in place.

On a serious note, bringing back the orbs for ABL as a test is really something I’d like for them to try.

I genuinely miss this mechanic. It gave the zerg fighters a singular focal point.

I think most boon stripping/corruption skills (aoe) probably need a substantial buff at this point in the game (WvW) with the level at which boons can be barfed out nonstop.

With queue times as long as they are with the current state of the game they absolutely need to allow queues from anywhere. I don’t want to literally wait ages doing nothing. Legend queues can reach hours right now too.

I think a lot of it is stemming from this seasons matchmaking not a lot of people are even legendary yet or with in adequate pip range. It also gets tiresome fighting the exact same people all the time. I know some of my friends that hit legend are all ready taking a break from GW2 because there isn’t substantial rewards or reason to keep going and they’re in Overwatch til next season lands all ready unless there are substantial changes between now and then either balance or otherwise.

Can we please have separate balancing between modes? At the very least, just numbers(damage, healing, damage reduction)?

I’ve spent some time working in the gaming and mmo industry and it all comes down to available time and resources because there is never enough of either. This is a fact of life in any business. This of course includes man power, hiring more people isn’t always the solution either because quite frankly not everyone is a going to be a good fit (brains, ideas, ideological stuff) and training getting them up to speed is no small task at any company doing things at this level people really underestimate the kind of monumental task that is a lot of the time even internally at some companies.

There is currently a partial skill split but even if a full split would ever happen it sure as hell would not be a quick migration either. You could also expect every balance related patch to take at least twice as long to push out. IMHO Its definitely better to try and work out a happy medium the problem is finding that happy medium and at this point i’m wondering if the problem has to do with internal communication at some level.

The Dragon Hunter 20% nerf that was mentioned here in this thread to me also felt like a PvP knee jerk because they could blow up people that were bad (the kind that do not dodge or use any defensive skills etc..) with little to no effort and unfortunately they were all ready comparatively low dps before that nerf in PvE which put the pve focused DHs in a rather precarious situation if their guilds liked to min/max they went from being barely acceptable in some circumstances to no.

Most of the QQ sounds like a L2P issue. Condi warrior is countered in a lot of ways but it punishes bad play severely. They’re extremely strong in 1v1s though if you get caught in a CC chain but you had to fail to do something to get caught in that in the first place. It can be kited pretty easily in a lot of cases. Scorched earth is about as obvious as it gets.. are you standing it in it? CC chained in it? The animation of zerker Mace burst is also quite obvious but hey if it lands and you can’t get the confusion off right away don’t mindlessly mash all your keys and blow yourself up.

Most condi warriors right will blow their load right away w/their CC don’t immediately full engage let them drop some of their cooldowns first, keep a bit of range circle around them and then engage keep an eye out for the animations weave in and out if you’re melee.

boring conquest mode with garbage match making, yes that’s the state we are at IMO.

Conquest does get boring. Matchmaking however isn’t nearly in as bad of a state as people seem to think. In fact if you have any experience with other tournament matchmaking systems GW2 is quite good even comparatively at face value. Now there are clearly something things that need to be ironed out like such as match making not trying to comp out groups effectively sticking you with 3-4 of 1 class. The match making range of 15pips up/down needs to have that gap closed up a bit. It’s worth keeping in mind this range may be that wide so queues don’t take 30 minutes to pop this is an important thing to keep in mind(even when looking at mmr in unranked). I still think for tournament seasons in ranked it should be close though even if longer queues result.

The biggest problem is perception when it comes to match making some people just refuse to accept their own skill level and are either in denial or absolutely blind to it. Blow outs are going to happen naturally even in a perfect world because those at higher skill levels if they are starting out in lower tiers are going to rise and it’s a simple as that.

It’s generally people with severe insecurities, psychological disorders, and real life issues that are using the game as stress relief best just to ignore them. Confronting such people just causes them to lash out more and what’s depressing is they usually lack self awareness of their own issues or even why they do it.

Sometimes it’s just children repeating what they see on youtube and in other games too /shrug

I’ve had some pretty awful match ups 3+ of X class (thieves or ele or rng) against decent comps. Still nothing in to prevent matchmaking from stacking classes.

People that afk during a match that is still very very close cause they just don’t like someone, trolling for the lulz, or whatever the reason should result in permanent bans kitten has happened way too much all ready today even in matches that were being won.

My hope is the balance changes are significant enough to offset the loss in survivability for the few builds that genuinely relied on it. It needed to go but there are some things that only worked because of it that were not even remotely op.

Have you considered Viper? It has expertise and burning while having a high damage modifier lasts a short while, so expertise and burning go really well together.

Its just not even remotely viable due to the lack of personal sustain with the traits you have to take for the build. No toughness or No Vita with no personal sustain traits on a class with the lowest base health pool next to ele with all the burst damage that’s around? Nope.

This literally doesn’t effect burn guardians one bit. We died the moment HoT released, as did most core builds.

Core oh ya absolutely. I meant the DH derivative. I mean its a toy build its nothing serious to begin with but you know it’s one less thing to mess around with in unranked for the lulz the lack of tough on the other amulets will just make it squishier than it all ready is with the current trait setups.

RIP Burn Guard too? It was a fun distraction. In the right comps it could even work. More of a toy build but now less fun options for guardians again. I have a swell of pity for everyone who mains guard right now not because of this but in general they’re in such a kitten situation in almost all game modes.

Class stacking is not the reason people are not getting the ranks/titles they want in ranked que.

While I mostly agree with this statement. Its infrequent when this sort of thing happens at least in my experience but it is still problematic. Match making should cap at 2 of any class unless they queued as a group getting 3-4 of anything(some clearly more hindering than others) isn’t going to make for a good match on either side.

What about Ranked do you enjoy more than Unranked during off-season?

Is it that you prefer climbing a ladder all the time? Or are there other particular reasons.

People in ranked tend to take ranked seriously, people in unranked run around in the water area of Niflhel trying to get duels saying “lol it’s unranked, who cares about winning” to the degree that they should be banned for griefing/trolling.

Exactly this kind of stuff. People use the fact that it is unranked to justify random AFKing/Poor play and just trying to find people willing to duel off point and if you +1 they lose their kitten. It makes it generally not fun.

I’m a casual player but I still try and play to win and look for a fun competitive match up with equally skilled players.

Hey guys! I’m a newer player I’ve recently clawed my way up to diamond in a few days. I’ve likely had disproportionately good luck with having solid team compositions to get here quickly. I’d like to think i’m OK-ish myself.

I have immediately noticed that some people literally stand off point and just spam 1 or run around in circles away from nodes. I have seen random afks and I inquired about this to some people and was told they simply do not want to hit legend because of absurd queue times and purposefully tank down and end up taking people down with them?

Have I been unlucky with this? Are these bots? Is this really a thing?

Edit: To clarify I really mean people that are not really doing anything not just apparently bad players.
