I don’t really get why the hell anet let a 4v5 to begin…it is not fun for both teams, is very much better to wait untill the spot is filled or drop the match and start a new queue

in a game that would have a sort of competition between players is not possible that 30% of games is a 4v5…really guys it suck…

is very much better to wait instead of play a NON COMPETITIVE match

i think the problem is mostly related to

A-the role that thief can cover in a game (they just can assist in team fight and roaming/decap, but can’t hold a point and most of the times can’t win a 1v1 vs a bunker enemy that is holding a point)
B-the fact that thief profession dont leave much room for mistakes

For me the dishonored debuff is fine, it would also help to have a simple way to report the ppl who afk at the spawn…it’s very annoying and it happens a lot of times

In my opinion this situation is very similar to the season 1 in TBC (world of warcraft) when resillence only reduced direct damage but not over time damage. Maybe we should hope in something similar to the blizzard’s solution to have a more balanced meta.

Hello guys, i’m opening this to have some help on how to build my thief with this new patch

i was previously d/p trickery with lyssa’s runes…is this build still viable with this new patch? should i change some traits with the new ones? or maybe runes since the lyssa’s has been nerfed?

i’m only lvl 42, should i buy some lvl 80 exotic gear to apply my best spvp’s skins?

I play thief but never use scorpion wire in skyhammer…it is lame play, i dont like to win this way and i dont like skyhammer at all…is a fun map but it should be outside the soloq rotation

Skyhammer is a map that doesn’t reward good play but good teams composition…some professions are useless, some other are gods

in a pvp scenario as solo q where the team composition is random this map dont have reason to exist…

I dont get why Anet haven’t still removed this crap from solo q… 99% of players hate it, a lot of time we have to play 4v5 because ppl dont wanna play it…and it’s still there

really there is no reason, just admit that it was a failure and remove it…failures happens, but keep failing is kitten

Hello everyone! i was wondering if signet of malice could be a good choice in a d/p spvp build…

with bp+hs we have a easy access to stealth, and with signet of malice we could maybe stay more on a fight istead of being forced to hit and run…

btw:

Healing Signet:
Passive: Grants regeneration.
Active: Heal yourself.
Healing: 3,275 (0.5)?
Healing Signet: 392 Heal

Signet of malice:
Passive: Heals when you attack.
Active: Gain health.
Healing: 133 (passive) (0.05)?
Healing: 3,275 (0.5)?

is that normal? we have the same heal on use but 1/3 heal on pulses, and we have to attack to have it pulse when the warrior ones is automatic every second…i feel is not really fair tbh

Again, play MM in top 10 TEAM pvp, its not OP. It’s a noob destroyer build, but to play effectively in highend takes a lot of skill and watching (you actually have to watch your minion’s HP, and mms aren’t immune to clutter, you know. They see them too…) then they have less mobility/defensive tools and CC breaks to have to deal with. Try that out against top end PvPers. Watch your pets get aoebombed and cced while you get rushed to the ground because your a necromancer, non-the-less one with no CC breaks unless you have the precasted Fleshwurm, and even then, you’re still getting trained, now with 1 less pet. See how grossly OP and roflfaceroll it is. >_>

Get better and try to learn before asking to nerf anything that kills you.

i’m fine with a profession that is specialized in a thing…but i’m not fine if its done by pets…

and remember…the game is composed by 90% casual players and 10% pro players…u cant say a class is balanced because pro players know how to play against it, because the 90% of casual will find troubles dealing with all the pets and its not fair, since u arent doing PVP in this way, but PVE

the game must be based on skill, not on passive procs, not on pets ecc

I dont really think that in a pvp scenario almost ruled by conditions the devs would nerf crit damage…i otherwise think it will be a buff in some way

In every game there are easiest professions/classes and difficoult ones…the biggest problem in any pvp game is allow PASSIVE abilities to make so much difference (healing signet, mm necro, spirit rangers ecc). The same problem with aoe dmg or conditions due to the game model that force u to stay on a point to cap it, being very easy to target by aoe brainless dmg

I agree with the op

i would like to add some other things that make the game less fun that it should be in spvp

1) too much aoe dmg (since we have to stay on a point to cap it aoe is too much effective)
2) too many pets
3) too many passive abilities

spvp should be focussed more on players skills (active abilities) instead of passive ones or pets or brainless aoe

Black Powder is the only way a thief have in this moment to stay alive more than 3 seconds vs Warriors or burst classes in general

i love d/d and i dont really like to play with a pisto as Thief, but without BP is really impossible to manage melee damage

As long as Thieves have stealth and the best stomp in the game (blind field + stealth), as well as access to high burst damage & mobility…they will remain one of the best classes in SPvP, they can fill some key roles extremely well.

For example, the Rogue class in World Of Warcraft has ALWAYS been a top-tier PvP class for 8 years, simply due to stealth, mobility and stunlock capability. All other classes have gone through an extreme rollercoaster of balance. 8 years. Think about that. GW2 Thief holds similar strengths (sort of).

I am of the opinion that classes with stealth, high damage and “cheap” get-away abilities will always have a guaranteed role in SPvP. I mean christ, look at what Mesmers can do currently.

i dont play wow since 2008, but how can u compare rogues to thieves???

1) rogue’s sthealth last till he start fight…so he can position himself and start to fight when he decide to

2) rogue have a LOT of dmg mitigations (cloack of shadows, evasion) that are very strong keeping him alive

3) rogue can stunlock/sap/blind targets, giving him a great game control…

4) most important…WOW HAVE HEALS

Btw anyone know why in solo q i’m costantly matched with ppl rank 30-55 as i’m rank 15? Shouldn’t i get ppl of my same rank?

as rank = time spent in pvp i think a rank 30/40/50 is strongly more expert than a 15

Another big problem i have is to select a target in the middle of a zerg…usually i can have 2 ppl with maybe 2/3 pets, and is really difficoult for me to click the right target if they are close…

if you’re in Solo Q or you’re not in a teamfight with people that can tank like this, then no, you shouldn’t always pass up on stomping.

Absolutely not. It is far more important to make sure you don’t get downed. I am dead serious about this: Thieves. Do. Not. Stomp.

For cleave damage, almost anyone else on your team will do better than you will with a short bow. As long as you have your poison field down, let someone else cleave. If someone goes to rez, then yea, you can focus on kicking them, but the beauty of thieves with a trickery build is that you can interrupt while you stomp (steal).

First of all, you don’t use steal to interrupt someone trying to use a 2 skill on you. You use it on people trying to res that person with stab – you are not stomping. Secondly, shortbow 4 into shortbow 2 is enough to guarantee most stomps. Do engies cleave better? Sure, but that doesn’t mean that thieves are magically great at stomping. Even an engie is better at stomping than a thief is. Thieves will always do a better job if they do something other than stomping. Thieves do not stomp in a teamfight. That is not their role There are way too many things that can go wrong.

yesterday evening i tried to play without stomping…ad i have to say i greatly reduced my deaths, being more useful to my team

i stomped only in 1v1 situations…i feel that with this low hp thief stomping is very risky

btw how can necro drain like 50% of my life in 3 seconds when downed??? what the hell?

I think i miss something in the combo bp + steal + hs + backstab

if cast black powder and then steal the field would be far away from me as a reach my enemy with steal…

and with mug if im stealthed and cast steal i get revealed cause mug damage…

Hi guys, i need some help! (sorry if my english is not perfect :P )

I play thief only in spvp and solo arena. Im currently rank 15 using d/d – sb or d/p -sb (i want to play with a dagger in main hand, sword or pistols doesn’t fit my idea of thief)

my talents are 10/30/0/0/30 with mug and executioner, lyssa runes and basilisk venom (full berserker amulet)

My problem is that i feel im not able to manage properly the class (the spells rotations) in particular at the beginning of a match

I haven’t found any exaustive guide on the web explaining how to play a thief, and how to play vs all the classes (the only one is 1 year old, old hearthseeker etc)

so thats my questions:

1) how do you usually start a match? as d/d i usually steal and precast c/d for a quick backstab, but as d/p thats dont work and i have to black-powder/hs to stealth giving my opponent enought time to prevent this strategy. should i use shadow shot to engage, than black powder to mitigate some damage and hs?

2) when do you use basilisk venom? at the beginning of a fight? or in the middle?

3) how do u deal with big aoe dmg? 90% of my deaths are caused by random aoe dmg that 100-0 me in 3 seconds…should i always use sb and switch to dagger only in 1v1?

4) Does a complete guide on dagger thief exist? :P

Hi guys, i need 2 advices!

I play a thief only for spvp (dont like exping and farming, im just lvl 28) and i play really casual (15/20 games/week)

the first one is about weapons…when i created my char i was planning to play with 2 daggers because is the kind of playstile i had in mind for this class, but in the last two months i only saw thieves with pistols or swords and on the forum too the d/d build is never citated
is it now unplayable at high levels?
i dont want to play with swords or pistols, they dont fit my idea of thief…

the second one is about build…the majority of thieves i saw with d/d play a full burst build…i dont like this playstyle…i’d prefer a bit less burst but with more surviving and mobility but maybe a thief not able to kill an enemy in 5 seconds is useless in spvp…what do u think?
