With what they think its DNA is. DNA is composed mostly of host material IE parental. So what you are saying is you want it to evolve from GW1..alot of people believe it or not didnt play or like Gw1 and they want GW2 to be its own creature entirely. You are presenting the manifesto which was a blog or journal created two years ago during development as the building blocks for the entire game, I find them at best a guide line.

Go into a restaraunt, look at the menu, and order a meal. When the meal that arrives is something different from what you ordered, just remember that the menu is just a guideline, it was created before that meal was prepared. Don’t forget to tip.

My gaming background, in no particular order:
Guild Wars 2
Guild Wars 1
WoW
EQ2
DDO
Warhammer
Rift
Shadowbane
CoH
WoT
LoL

Absolutely love GW2. Until this last patch. But prior to that, I enjoyed all aspects of the game, pvp and pve. Was having a great time advancing my pvp gladiator title track, playing some wvw, and working on alts in pve after having more or less finished my main. Oh wait, not finished anymore…I guess the fun stuff I was enjoying can all go out the window while I grind get my main finished…again…until next time when it’s no longer finished.

I suppose I’m just waiting for the big discussion on monday to delete the game and let hope die.

I'll be honest about the gear and gearchecks

flood all online buying sites with complaints and bad reviews. if they can’t sell anything over the holidays, someone will get fired and things will change.

I won’t flood anything, but I will express my views in places other than this one. I’ve already hit up a few different sites with comments about how Anet doesn’t keep promises, baits and switches, and is an untrustworthy company that has completely changed direction from the awesome company and service that they were known for with GW1.

I only make one or two comments per location, but I do make comments.

Also, I stop by here every few days to see if they’ve recanted or fixed their NGE moment. Sad to see they still haven’t and show no intention of doing so. Haven’t logged in once since the patch…which makes me sad. I’d looked forward to this game for years, and preordered deluxe, made some cash shop purchases (mostly bank space, but a few other knick knacks). I was the kind of customer they’d want to keep…and I’m also the kind that will never give them another penny nor say a single kind word about them anywhere on the internet for their actions past this patch.

Most untrustworthy dev team of the year: Anet

As for ascended gear, to reiterate what Chris has said (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/news/A-message-from-our-Studio-Design-Director-Chris-Whiteside), it’s not intended as a treadmill, but rather as a tier of rewards that can help bridge the gap between Exotics (a few hours of effort to acquire a piece) and Legendaries (hundreds of hours of effort to acquire one). They’re currently only available in the Fractals of the Mist Dungeon, but we’re going to be adding new ways to acquire them, both inside of WvW as well as elsewhere in PvE.

The argument of “it’s not intended as a gear treadmill” is lame. Here’s why.

If I’m walking down the street one day, and punch someone in the face, I can’t go to court and tell the judge it wasn’t intended as a punch, I was just stretching my arm out rapidly. Whining about “we don’t intend for it to be” doesn’t change anything, it IS a treadmill, and that’s all there is to it. While intent matters to some degree, the actual action matters far, far more. If you didn’t intend for it to be a gear treadmill, then upon realizing the obvious, that it is, you’d patch it right back out of the game so your players wouldn’t have to deal with the negative unintended consequences of your actions. Right?

Quit with the political doubletalk. Just come out and say what you mean. Here, I’ll paraphrase it for you. “We at Anet knew this would piss off our playerbase, but our investors like it, so we put in (at least) several weeks of work before even hinting at it to anybody, then patched it and have absolutely no intention of changing things now. Like it or lump it, it is what it is and that’s just too bad if you’re upset, go cry to someone who cares.”

To the people who are saying “I didn’t buy this game to grind dungeons I just wanted to stroll about in the world and do my thing and enjoy dynamic events la la la”…

Are you actually doing that? Are you actually going back to zones and re-experiencing the events and the world? Or is this just an ideal that you wish you could do, but never actually could get yourself to do?

Maybe this is why Anet is being flexible now with their original philosophy, because they see that despite their own ideals of having players go out into the world and just “having fun” people simply don’t do that anymore.

Yep. But not just that, also spvp, wvw, alts, crafting, helping friends, and so on. For me the fun doesn’t start until the character is DONE. The character isn’t done in most games ever, which is why I played GW1 and why I bought GW2. Anet set the bar as to where “done” was, and I slogged through 80 levels of ugh to get there, then did the dungeons for exotics and bought some weapons that I reskinned (seriously, instance weapons are a bit overpriced). Finally, character done, time to play! No more gear grind hanging over my head!

Oh well, not anymore.

It is a matter of not overhauling your entire design philosophy after your product has been out for only 3 months.

This patch didn’t just happen overnight. It was thought out, discussed, math was done, presentations and meetings, and so on. This was not pulled out of a hat. They’ve known about this for several months at least.

Well, I just came by to check and see if there was a change or an update. Apparently Anet is going to continue on this course. I’m very dismayed with this. I haven’t logged in since the patch went live, and have no intention of doing so until the Ascended gear, infusions, and agony are removed from the game…or at least from the gear. No bait and switch, Anet, shame on you.

Hey Anet, this is your New Game Enhancements moment. How is SWG doing these days, anyway? Yeah.

basically did not answer the question and went back to PR speak. They are all on damage control now.

The only damage control they can do is to roll back the servers to prepatch, edit out the new tier and the agony/infusion stuff, and repatch it to live. Anything else is trash and worthless.

It will make a beautiful WoW II, but as you can see from my sig I choose to take my business elsewhere; already tried WoW, and GW2, not much difference between the two when you add the unattainable end game carrots [stats].

I was actually enjoying the game [gw2], have collected lot of small suggestions with larger relevance, a good sign I am invested. But now there is little ArenaNet can do to repair the lost faith in their integrity.

My business advice to ArenaNet, fulfill your destiny, make the ‘easy’ choice go for WoW II, build a complete tier system for the stat hungry. Though it may be the soulless choice in the end, the profits may improve a bit

Too soon, give them time to turn it around. The patch hasn’t been released yet, so have a little patience and let them see the error of their ways. I’m deleting as well if they patch this ascended or agony stuff into the game. But I’m giving them until the moment the patch is released. They did very, very well with GW1, and I’m trying to hold on to the tattered shreds of my faith in Anet.

I stand corrected, they did patch it to the live servers just now over the massive outcry against it. I’m torn if I want to finish my last 1/4 of a level to reach rank 20 in spvp or if I should just uninstall now. I guess I’ll just think about it for now, and decide later. I was going to play now…but instead I guess I’m going to shop around for another game.

So long, Anet. I wish you’d said you were going to do this before release so I wouldn’t have wasted money on your game.

They are designing ascended armor to be released over months, if not years, so that you can never with any confidence say: “Now I’m done with the stat progression!”

Sure you can. Just stop playing. That’s what I plan to do if they release this garbage to the live servers. My gear progression stops very abruptly.

I’m not playing that bait and switch game with Anet.

I played GW1, bought every xpac.
Preordered GW2, after a long anticipation.
Won’t spend another cent on this game if they let that go live.

Anet, you know full well this is the opposite of everything that’s ever been released about this game, this franchise, the entire design philosophy. If you’d said you’d be doing this before release, I’d have skipped buying the game. Now I’m unsure if I should even bother logging in for any pve content at all.

I sincerely hope that the new tier of gear and the agony mechanic get pulled out and not patched to the live servers. You’ll have one angry playerbase…well, what’s left of the playerbase anyway.

After reading the dev update from Chris Whiteside, I can safely say…THIS IDEA IS STILL GARBAGE. The worst part of it is the “agony” mechanic. The 2nd worst part is that it invalidates all prior exotic armor that people put the time into getting not expecting that they’d need to do it all over again.

I strongly disapprove. I’ve seen this agony type of mechanic in other games, and I’ve NO desire to see it in this one. It’s a poor design move, where the content isn’t more difficult, it’s just a “no happy button no pass sorry!”. Trash.

I’m not interested. Throw this entire idea in the trash bin, start over. Either upgrade all current dungeon exotics and crafted exotics to this new level (including already equipped items), or don’t patch this garbage live. I’ve talked to several of my IRL friends who play and we’re all “wtf” and shocked by this. Nobody is pleased. This is the road of grinding, and that was never part of the Guild Wars franchise…until now. Don’t.

This is a terrible change and it will negatively impact my enjoyment of the game.

I don’t want to be forced to run these dungeons to get gear upgrades. I put my time in getting the gear I have now, and I’m happy with that gear. I don’t want to repeat the process. Furthermore, I won’t bother running the current content with this new mandatory gear type available, because the current gear becomes trash the moment that mandatory gear gets patched to the servers.

Don’t do this, Anet. It’s not too late to change your mind. Get rid of the entire Agony mechanic and turn the gear into what it should have been in the first place: different skins only.

I’d write something longer, but at 116 pages in I think just adding my voice to those against this change is enough. Don’t patch this garbage to the live servers, and fire whoever thought this was a good idea. Try importing your GW1 staff to take their places.

Why does Knockdown outshine Stun?

in PvP

Shieldbreaker.4012

Immobilize outshines stun. Knockdown is entirely another level.

That’s the fact right there. Immobilize is the killer, and causes deaths. Stun is usually brief enough that it’s over and you’re away before they can secure a kill from it.

Is the point to kill people or have a higher score?

in PvP

Shieldbreaker.4012

The point is to gain glory, not to win matches (except how winning affects your personal glory gain). This is different from tournaments where the point is to win. That seems to be the part that most people get hung up on, the mistaken belief that the goal is winning and that winning is incentivized. The goal is not to win, winning just gives you some glory which helps you achieve your real goal of personal glory gain. Think I’m wrong? I know you’ve seen people putting together tournament teams requiring Rank 20, or 30, or 80000, or whatever it’s at today. As long as people care about rank, then the goal of the random arenas is to gain rank and that’s it.

If glory is tied to winning matches and not individual actions then you get bots running 24/7, even if it’s just a small amount of the glory tied in that way.

If you want to win more glory, play in a manner that wins more glory. If you want to win matches, play with that goal in mind. If you want to just practice defending a node then take the most critical node and camp out.

If you want to play to win, join a tournament.

Unquestionably the kitteniest thing I’ve found in this game. It’s not a jumping puzzle, it’s a “will I get grouped with a bunch of Norn and Charr that keep me from being able to see what I’m doing” puzzle. Which isn’t puzzling, it’s just irritating.

This is a crock. Skipping this, after a total of about 2 hours of trying it, giving up hoping some of the huge models are logged out next time, come back later find more of them, quit.

The puzzle isn’t the part that I dislike. It’s the glut of huge models keeping me from being able to see what my little asura is doing that I dislike. There’s nothing fun about that.

Obtaining pvp exotics vs obtaining pve exotics

Thanks for letting me know of those sets with that stat combo that are availble from dungeons, that’ll help a lot.

However, the other question of why does it take so long to get the pvp exotics from WvW is still out there. That remains an absurd grind.

Obtaining pvp exotics vs obtaining pve exotics

To quote today’s patch notes:
2) Dungeons reward 20 tokens for completion and now reward an additional 40 tokens for the first time they are completed each day. This means that if players can complete all 3 chains of a dungeon in a day, they’ll receive a total of 180 tokens, which is enough to purchase some of the smaller rewards.

Let’s say you get through a chain in a whopping 2 hours. You complete all three chains in 6 hours. I’m guessing high on this. So, you can get a piece of exotic gear every day, at least one of the smaller pieces. GREAT! That’s awesome and I like it.

So why are people who want the power/toughness/vitality gear penalized? You can’t get exotics with those stats anywhere except from the vendor in WvW in trade for Badges of Honor. Even the cheapest exotic piece is around 300 badges. The consensus I’ve seen on the forums is they seem to be dropping at a rate of about 1 per 5 kills. So to get gear in even somewhat equal time, you’d be looking at knocking out 1500 kills in 6 hours (250/hr), without missing a single loot bag.

For starters, nobody is such a pvp god that they’re getting 250 kills per hour, every hour played. Then there’s a variety of things that are helpful that are helpful to your side winning, but not efficient in terms of getting those badges of honor. For example, running with a couple other people to sneak attack and take a supply camp. Helpful, but keeps you from getting gear. The most efficient method being staying with the zerg and aoeing. Don’t a ram, that’ll slow you down. Let some other poor schmuck do that.

That’s not even getting into the “I wonder how many bags of loot I missed today” issue, where they may be hard to get in a zerg vs zerg rush.

I played more hours than I’d care to admit in wvw the last few days. I’ve done useful things, getting supply camps, killing dolyaks transporting supplies, playing a mostly (not entirely) support role with my groups and making sure to heal, protect, and use my one ranged weapon to aoe and dps in between. I’ve amassed…less than 40 badges. You see, I strayed away from the zerg, which I’ve learned from and won’t be doing again. But what’s more, I have been a useful and productive player on the battlefield.

So why the huge disparity between exotics with power/tough/vit and every other available stat combo available in the game?
