I haven’t been around much but with private servers why is it no one is doing this? Lack of motivation?

Did they over hype the class changes? yes
Would i rather have them make changes on a small scale rather than drastic changes? yes
Looks good ill try it out instead of my staff bunker :|
reserve post for q&a
I have been playing a Mesmer since BWE1. I have tried many builds but this has become my favorite so far.

Skills
Sword/Sword
1) Mind Slash/Mind Gash(combo) – Vulnerable (5secs) +1% damage
Mind Stab (combo) – Stab your foe and rip a boon off of them.
- I do use auto-attack briefly mainly for the second combo to rip boons.
2) Blurred Frenzy – Strike your foe with a flurry of strikes, distorting the space around you, making you evade attacks. Distortion (2s)
- Your strongest attack outside your illusions. Great offensive for its damage, Defensive for its evade.
3) Illusionary Leap – Summon an Illusion that leaps to your target, crippling them. (1 second cripple 50% speed)
Swap (Combo) – Swap places with your clone. Immobilize nearby foes. (2 second Immobilize)
- Great for chasing someone down when the skill works. I tend to use it only when I am close to them as I get a higher rate of success of it working.
4) Illusionary Riposte – Block your foe, creating an illusion when attacked.
Counter Blade (combo) – Shoot out a bolt that dazes foes in line.
- This is where synergy takes great effect in the build. Remember the trait we put that gives 3 seconds of retaliation for every block. The combo is great as well. Before the block ends cast it again for that 1 sec daze.
5) Phantasmal Swordsman – Create an illusion that attacks your foe.
- This is a really hard hitting phantasm. I’ve seen 3500 – 6000 critical hits from this phantasm.
Scepter/Pistol
1)Ether Bolt – Shoot out a bolt of energy at your target.
Ether Blast(combo) – Shoot out a second bolt of energy at your target.
Ether Clone (combo) – Shoot out a third bolt of energy confusion your target. Summon a clone that cast Ether Bolt.
- Great auto attack that you can use to kite. Shattering Illusions as much as possible because of the third combo.
2) Illusionary Counter – Block the next attack. Counter by creating a clone that cast Ether Bolt.
Counter Spell (combo) – Shoot out a bolt that blinds foes in line. (5sec Blindness)
- Again working off that trait grants retaliation. Also the combo skill is good for its blindness should you not get the block.
3) Confusing Images – Channel a beam of energy that damages and confuses your foe. (5x Hits. Confusion (5seconds): 325 damage on skill use.)
4) Phantasmal Duelist – Create an illusion that unloads its pistols on your foe.
- Pretty much every Mesmer should know this skill.
5) Magic Bullet – Hit up to three foes with a single shot. The first target is stunned, the second is dazed, and the third is blinded.
Heal: Ether Feast – Heal yourself. Gain additional health for each active illusion.
Utility 1: Decoy – Gain stealth and summon an illusion to attack your foe.
- Love this skills. Granting stealth breaks the target lock on you. Making it great to cause confusion.
Utility 2: Null Field – Create a field of energy that rips all boons from foes, and cures all conditions on allies.
-Great against heavy boon builds, great against heavy condition builds. Probably one of the strongest Mesmer skills.
Utility 3: Blink – Teleport to a target location.
- Perfect when you get caught by 100b or PW.
Elite: Time Warp – 10seconds of quickness. (teamfights)
Moa – 10seconds of transformation into a moa. (solo)

Been playing competitive gaming for 8 years. CS 1.6 – CS:S – DoTA : DoTA 2 : WoW RBGS/Arena

Portal is very situational, moa is very situational, time warp is very situational.
Do i need to say more?Probably because your point is unclear. Blink is situational, feedback is situational, all skills are essentially situational unless you’re a brainless button masher.
MOA + Teamfight < TW + Teamfight
TW + SOLO < MOA + SOLO
Portal: I mean most only use it for treb :\
It just how well you play your mesmer and getting these skills for the right situation. I would gladly swap Portal for mass invis in the skill tree because thats the only skill that it would happen with.
Those points aside, the standard moa arguements still apply. For the 10s you are a moa:
1. you can kite
2. you can run
3. you can dodge
4. you can use moa skills (one of which is a stun)1. No, you can’t effectively kite unless the mesmer lets you kite. You run equally as fast, or slower (if the mesmer has a speed buff of some kind)
2. You can’t run faster than the mesmer, and have no way of dealing with the numerous movement impairing skills. Most capture points in sPvP also are in notably wide-open areas without any real quick retreat options.
3. You’re going to need far more than two dodges to survive.
4. Most of the moa skills are terrible, and are also all very short range. You, as opposed to every other non-moa’d class, have no good way of closing the distance, and can’t switch to a ranged weapon.
im 90% sure your base run speed is greater in moa form. pretty sure.
It’s an elite skill that has the POTENTIAL to cancel out another elite skill. What is the problem with that?
If it was a normal skill with a 30s CD that could cancel our your elite, then sure that’s an issue. But this is an elite, canceling another elite.
I would like to hear your justification for granting Mesmers the only Elite skill that cancels out another. Mesmers are the only profession currently that has that capability.
It doesn’t mitigate it, it doesn’t make it less useful in some way, it flat out nullifies that Elite skill. No profession should have that power.
Apparently it’s okay because it’s so weak no one uses it and you can dodge twice as the bird so it’s no problem, and time warp is a much stronger skill anyway so what drugs are people on?
At least with time warp you can stunbreak and use your skills.
The justification of people for this skill is laughable, this skill should’ve never existed.
Situations occur when moa will be better than tw.
Like Thieves Guild will be better than Dagger Storm.
There is always the door.
Portal is very situational, moa is very situational, time warp is very situational.
Do i need to say more?

Well uhm, I dont do any PvE at all so this is a pure PvP spec.
Still Focus is better then both, unless you do a pure illu dps build. Otherewise focus in Pvp is better.
Well to me, but I guess other will see it different.
I finally looked at his build. It seems like a hybrid condi/sustained dps build.

You’re not the only one buddy.
you have to copy/paste these links.
I'm seeing a lot of sadness about Scepters. Here's a 101 on them if it's a weapon you've never really used.

I am making a detail post about my build very soon. I found scepter/pistol to be very strong. The two key is so good when you time it right.
I am curious if its possible and if yes, what spec.
You might want to consider “Blade Training” over “Retaliatory Shield” (Dueling T2), and “Masterful Reflection” over “Compounding Power” (Illusions T1). I think the two synergize well. Maybe skip “Masterful Reflection” because it would replace your +3% dmg per illusion which is pretty nice, but I’d definitely pick up Blade Training with your play style — that’s 20% more distortion and 20% more blocking.
Since Blade Training is an Adept lvl trait, you could drop your phantasm buff in Dueling T1 for Blade Training, drop 5 points from Dueling (wash when using the sword with Blade Training) and put the 5 points into the Toughness line to pick up a T1 adept there (maybe 3% dmg reduction per illusion).
I’ll try it out. Its hard to drop the fury on phantasms though :|
you have to copy and past it ^^

Ill be watching this thread to answer any questions or comments.
The way i use this build is great for solo and making great use of the blocks you get from both weapon sets. The other way to play this is 2v1 situation. Using your phantasms to kill the softer target while using your weapon attacks to keep pressure on the other guy when moa is down. Now this video is from when i first started playing but recently I have been using these tactics to much success.
Utilities:
Null Field: I find this one of the best Mesmer skills to use. Countering condition builds as well as denying guardians of their buffs.
Blink: Very situational. I tend to save this for pw/100b haste builds. Other uses have been from a knockback when a player is down. Blinking to them to get a quicker stake.
Decoy: Nothing makes the mesmer stronger then breaking target locks. Also a useful escape mechanism.
Sigils:
Air: You crit quite often with this build. Extra damage is always nice.
Bloodlust: I love this sigil on damage builds. You get 10 power per stack. 25 = 250 (for those who cant do math. What the sigil doesnt say is for every kill, including chieftan and svanir, you get five stacks.
Rune:
Orge: Rockdog adds nice dps. But this is your FOTM choice.

Pistol Whip- I have a huge problem with this skill and it being used with quickness. The skill is a very good opener but with quickness is become more than that. If Anet refuses to get rid of quickness than maybe one of these changes would work better.
-Quick CD (2sec)
-Remove the stun – The reason for this your "2’ key already gives you a snare, if you get the trait where if your target falls below 50% health, inflict snare for 4s
-Remove Evasion from skill
-Increase Initiative cost (6/7)And you just made a useless skill by doing that, they increased the stun from how long it was before because it wasn’t good with only 1/4th a second of stun, so outright removing the stun alone would make it useless. If they get rid of the stun and evasion then they need to allow you to move during it and easily dodge out of it and possibly even speed it up a little, but honestly it wouldn’t feel like a pistol whip without a stun. Currently plenty of other classes can do Pistol Whip level of damage, it’s just the thief can get in and out the best while doing it.
I do like the idea of haste only effecting auto attack, if they do this though haste should last X amount of hits rather than a time limit though simply due to the fact if you’re stuck in a long animation attack when you proc it, you’ve pretty much completely wasted it.
EDIT: You shouldn’t have to trait to make a skill useful, you should trait to make a skill more useful. I think Thief is fine in terms a balance, Pistol Whip is powerful I admit, but a lot of classes have very powerful attacks as I stated before. People need to learn to bring stun removal and conditional removal, so many people don’t.
I agree. I do think the stun needs to be there. But i think the real problem is haste.

unless i have missed some patchnotes….
i havent used Pistol Whip in PvE in a long time, so maybe it works against opponents who just stand in front if you and swing with melee attacks at your front arc.
i do however play sPvP every night. and i know with 100% certainty (from personal experience) that while i am channeling the swings from Pistol Whip I don’t auto-evade attacks from enemy players when i’m channeling this. so if it does evade attacks, there are major restrictions on which ones it evades. i’m taking the full force of projectiles, AoE attacks, and melee from the side/rear when im doing this.
It is likely it only from the front. As last night in spvp(and i play a lot of spvp) when i was showing my team how easy PW(which is is). Thief and I both PW eachother. Both took no damage until the last two strikes.
I don’t like using it.
I don’t think it should be in the game.
It takes a lot of skill out of the game.
Disable it in sPvP?
Note: I rarely get dunked on by 100b/PW.

It stuns and during the damage portion is gives you evasion. If you dont believe me go try it in pve or against another thief. Like the mesmer
thief is more then fine after this tweaks, Pistol 1 wont have its fire rate increased due to how strong Stealth 1 skill is.
The superior rate of fire was given to the ranger shortbow that deals the same damage per shot and bleed when flanking
See the relation/diference betewen the 2?
Superior rate of fire in pistol would mean= nerf to unload + nerf to Stealth 1 pistol skill when using it with off hand dagger
Many thiefs dont want that, mostly phisical damage pistol users like me
About Pistol Whip with haste:
Like most haste combos, they rely on CC you then burst, a CC breaker is a most, if u dont have one, u deserve taking the full burst.(Ranger Shortbow/Rapid Fire is the only Quickness combo that doesnt rely on a CC but doesnt get close to 100blades nor Pistol Whip in terms of burst)
I dont see how changing the rate of fire on your 1 key would hurt the rest of the skills as they have completely different rate of fires
PW+Haste CC breaker.Because how the skill is designed the only good CC breaker is one that put you at a distance.
I understand the deal with the ranger. Which I agree. Hate + rapid fire usually only one skill use before haste is gone and doesnt require a CC to avoid.
It would hurt because anet would balance the increase DPS that skill 1 would be doing
And having at a stun breaker/condition removal is slowy becoming the meta game, i been saying this since beta 1
You’re probably right.
Condition removal is needed. Full Wipe of all conditions? Probably not
Maybe this will help.
Thief >(lag) Server(lag) > You
You will see a huge burst, backstab +mug+smoke
Many factors go on what you see on your screen to what they see on theirs due to how well the server is taking connections. It sucks but some things are harder to fix than you think.

…
I hate to be that guy who shouts “L2P”, but I’m afraid I have to here.
Haste + Pistol Whip is very powerful, there’s no denying that. However, it’s just like any other class’ massive burst combo (see Bull’s Charge + Hundred Blades from Warrior, Signet of the Hunt + Sharpening Stone + Rapid Fire from Ranger, etc). It takes a sacrifice of sustained damage and/or utility to use, every class has a hard counter to it, and it leaves you highly vulnerable after it’s over.
I regularly laugh off thieves with Pistol Whip. I run S/D and P/D. If I see a S/P thief, I get S/D out and use Infiltrator’s Strike. The moment he pops Haste, I hit Shadow Return. They always blow 5? on a Pistol Whip, and some will spam the button and use it twice. Then it’s a simple matter of using either a stealth, a CC, a slow, or just dodging to keep them off of you for two seconds, and their powerful combo is gone. At that point, I have the upper hand.
I personally don’t have a problem in avoiding being PW. Especially on my mesmer but the point I am trying to make it really dumbs the game up. I dont think the problem lies within PW itself if you remove haste. Yes you blew your l2p call.
spoken from a purely pvp perspective, could have simply disabled haste in pvp settings, and/or made it affect ONLY auto-attacks
we need to SEPARATE the skills in pve from pvp NOT nerf them to suit one at the detriment of the other, how do players NOT understand this at this point in the evolution of gaming as a whole?
This is the first suggestion i have seen about haste. I honestly this never crossed my mind, Thank you
Straight to the point.
Heartseeker – I wouldn’t call it a nerf more of a adjustment. It is designed to be a finisher.

Death Blossom – Increase the cost by 1.
I would more enjoy the removal of quickness across the board.
Pistol / Pistol – Increase the attack speed of 1 key. You’re using two pistols, you shouldnt be firing at the rate of a Long Bow.
Decrease the overall cost of utility provided by weapons.
Cloak of Shadows should have a shorter channel time.
I think this would add more variety to the class rather than spamming 222222222 or 333 when quickness is up.
I would like to discuss more so feel free to post.
