Hilarious and an old tune. People absolutely hate to be killed by a Ranger/Druid. I have not run a meta build (intentionally at least) on my ranger/druid ever and I’ve always been accused w those types of comments. It’s especially funny when they don’t actually know how you killed them (traits/PLANNED combos etc). The key is to at least sample every class so that you can fight against them effectively or at least midling w any class.

Its good for two reasons. 1) It was not nerfed into unviability like a lot of doomsayers were making it out to be. 2) It actually has counterplay besides “don’t be a condi build.” I love it. Not being able to use 80% of my stuff on an Ele was most frustrating.

Couldn’t have said it better myself. Basically, there’s people who just don’t want the trait to even exist.

Forums are made for voicing opinions. While I understand that this leads to many people whining or voicing their opinions in an immature manner, this is still first a foremost a forum for opinion and ideas on this game. Secondly by even making this topic to incite the masses on whether they themselves are part of this “toxic” community only goes to make this entire post toxic. Congratulate yourself, you are a part of this “toxic community.” Forums are a necessary evil, even if you have to wade through a few unnecessary posts to find what you are actually looking for.

And in regards to an earlier post: if you fork over your hard earned money for any game, you generally feel invested. And likewise if the Devs make changes that actually hurt the community (although that is to the extent of your own opinion) then expect to see angry forums. That said, I have been w GW since GW1, and while I do not wish to stop playing, I can understand anger of the community when changes do not seem to be fully thought out.

Revs are not the only class that has similar access to swap sigils other than just weapons. It is intended and perfectly fine. The sigils have CDs.

I believe it’s a bad switch. The heal itself is nothing special, as Defiant Stance on warrior is better in most every way, to take away the instant cast makes it almost utterly useless. I stopped healing Revs when they popped this skill one day into the HoT release. If you cannot identify a heal skill that gives the opponent an aura, a massive projection in the sky, a loud noise, and then subsequent popping noises then it really is an L2P issue. The argument that a person cannot shed their aoes (DH) and the rev heals through them is void, as they can still do that even w this unnecessary cast time added. I’d have to aree w above posts: if you add activation time then the skill should at least last longer.

Doom sigil is a response to the tanky high sustain might stacking cele meta.

Agreed, it works wonders against regen warriors. I’d recommend using at least one Doom sigil out of your four, for a wep swap before a heal. Even if it had less duration it would be effective.

You have my genuine thanks for addressing the topic, rather than typical forum bash. 1+!
Personally I ran Elixer S, additional invul paired w stealth was very useful. Warrior Ham bows generally tend to forcast their main forms of cc before they can get it off. So with that, a well placed dodge or a cc at the right time gerally solves the issue. Also a sigil of doom handles their passive regen.
Medi guards have a very short staple of condi removal, which is normally a 16s single condi or a 48s condi conversion. So for the most part medi guards shouldnt cause many issues, especially since they sell out medi for 0 stability.
Now terromancer…. it’s only fair to say all builds have at least one hard counter. But necros have enough issues, they deserve some form of winning.
And pew pew rangers, just no.. No. Get in range and they are absolutely worthless, and have little to 0 condi removal. Nobody should honestly lose to a pew pew ranger. They sell everything they can trait just to pewpew.

The issue with Engis is that they can spam condis with little to no real effort along w the ridiculous amount of Cc. You do not need to spec in turrets to hand turret drop elite which puts almost every turret down at once. Net still nets, burn still burns regardless if they are specced or not. If their main source of power is positioning and cc then make it so, treat their pistol similar to ranger SB in the sense that they need to flank in order to optimize. Right now there is little effort needed to run engi. I literally grabbed a meta build and wrecked havoc for hours in pvp with only pve knowledge of the class..

You mean like a soldier hambow can immobilize with pindown, whatever hammer 3 is called and burn with longbow 2 and f1? They aren’t really specced into condition either.
Also nobody is using pistol auto to stack bleeds since it’s so bad it’s not even funny. At best you use it on running targets you can’t hit reliably with grenades.

Much the same way that ham bow is a pick up build that has reached meta status, so has the condi engi. And exactly the point that makes it meta is what all the engis in the forum get angry about (much to my delight!) that it easy a build ANYONE can pick up and use w minimal effort. At least Ham/Bow is destroyed by any sort of blind output or proper dodges. Of course those who benefit from the current state of it are gonna defend it like everybody else’s opinion is void. But I suppose that is the nature of such forums.

So you don’t have a shield 4 skill that pushes, a tool kit that pulls, a flamethrower that pushes all 3 under 30 second cooldown (w the flamethrower being 15s). 2 forms of moving blocks w shield and tool kit. all in the same build that does condi damage w crits that burn, and the elite which drops turrets just for extra effect?
That’s news to me :O

That, my friend, is an excellent point! That really is a problem, because it would not affect any real aspect of PvE, but I can see how that would change dueling as well as WvW roaming. Most engi I see, including myself when I played, really would not venture deep into WvW just because of the fact that without the tight spaces most fights are not in their favor. If there were multiple game modes for spvp I could absolutely justify the ability to spam CC. In that sense they would serve a specific purpose in each game mode rather than serving the MAIN purpose in the ONLY game mode. Even a Capture the flag type game could use engi to defend, but it would be entirely reasonable considering it would be serving a purpose rather than the only purpose.

Thanks, for addressing the topic! Agreed they trade off quite a bit in order to spam condi, elixers can only do so much. I think the issue is the passive damage of condi paired w (and the real issue I feel) an abnormal about of CC. Condi bunker is the standard for point cap which is totally understandable, but the CC on such short cooldowns is what I’ve used personally and been used against me that will often determine the fight.

Having used both forms of the guard, I will say the hybrid guard is far more rewarding than meta medi guard (say that 3 times fast). If you time your blinds and burns correctly it shreds through most meta builds. That said, it does have a few hard builds it’ll come across. Thieves are no longer whack-a-mole as they generally are w standard meta medi, as they can cleanse before you do a large bulk of the damage and are not as squishy ( seemingly of course ). Engi is still a pain if they are camping a siege point. Warriors still have a LOT of HP, so it’s mostly winable ( The blinds go a long way ) but it will be a long fight.

Thanks for the feedback. This is an honest discussion. Necro cannot maintain the condi’s uptime as they are not triggered on basic attacks on staff. They rely often on aoe and fearing the enemy into triggers. Yes focus and sceptor also apply condis but not to w the easy and low cooldown of Engi. They also do NOT have any form of stability or a reliable source of regen, as your engi so easily does. Bleed ranger, again, needs to flank to continue a sustainable assault. I learned to play engi in order to better understand how to combat them, this is how I know of their ridiculous spam skills. Secondly, I’ll meet you in solo Q now that 4v5s are fixed.

I have spent at least 15 hours in engi, mostly PvP, but some PvE dungeons. I have too say, it feels like total BS to have this much condi spamming, easy access to boon, (IE vigor and swift just for switching to a kit!), and spammable CC all in one build. I mostly use Engi just to troll in PvP because its a joke of a class to me at this point. Would any experienced engi’s please explain to me what I am missing or is this class just stupid OP in spvp. W/ tool kit, flamethrower, and shield I can CC or block almost as spam time killer while any critical hit applies burn?! That’s on par w guard at this point plus all the other spamable condis. I feel their overall CC needs to be toned down or make the condis not as mindless to apply, such as needing to flank, like a ranger does even without all the engi CC! Now you may say “just play engi and be happy then!” but I hate the mindless gameplay (v ele for example which is really hands on in which skill is best for each situation)
Any thoughts on why my thought process might be mislead? What is the sacrifice to gain such strong CC? Let’s have a proper discussion

Issue with Match ready screen

So this is more or less just to report an issue myself and the entire group of people playing spvp at one time had. We entered the match same as usual, except that one player was missing. Next about 30 seconds into the match all of us would get the “Match Ready” screen pop up over our game. It would not fill all the checkmarks, so it would stay for a while then disappear, only to appear again shortly after.

I think all here agree, Courtyard itself isn’t the problem. It is definitely the implementation into conquest queue. Agreed as well that more maps for TDM would be fun. Capture the flag type of game (a more fleshed out Spirit Watch) would be awesome as well! Just needs separate a separate queue, as I’d probably play different toons for each game mode.

@Shadelang first off I won’t even address the fact that you are saying people honestly can’t adjust to TDM and would be lost in anything complex Anet could give us. Rude and unnecessary.
Now to the point, TDM is not the actual issue. The issue is that it is in the same que to play conquest. If people SET a build for conquest only to be put in TDM it’s a waste of time as well as not what they signed up for. If you want other “intricate” form of pvp (although I don’t see how TDM is at all complex or worth playing) that’s fine! But if you are queued for conquest, I’m pretty sure most want to play conquest, again unless it’s an organized guild group in which case it’s a farm fest.

I am enjoying the new system of matchmaking to its fullest so far. That said, the inclusion of Courtyard is absolutely out of bounds. The entire rest of the maps are about a specific type of gameplay but you put a TDM in the middle of that?! I can move on about the guild v PUG topic that’s already being addressed by people, but when that is happening in Courtyard its just stupid and unacceptable. Look, I don’t mind Skyhammer (Heck I like the fact that positioning becomes more important to all classes w the threat of instant death) but this map destroys any semblance of point capture gameplay or builds that people spend time prepping for.

Remove Courtyard, Skyhammer, SW from Ranked.

I never thought I’d say that I miss the old system, but wow. This new system was NOT ready for prime time. It is not fun.

Can you elaborate? We have plenty of things we can tweak to improve matchmaking now, so qualitative feedback is useful.

When you see guild tags on all 5 of the players. And you realize your pugs w sub 80s doesn’t stand a chance.

4 skill is absolutely the worst offender of ranger offhands. I would like to see more utility out of Ranger warhorn skills, as right now Warrior warhorn is absolutely dominant. From a lore standpoint both classes should have quite a bit of use out of a warhorn, but the uneven balance right now is too much. I think Warrior warhorn skills should have a longer cooldown (condi transfusion paired w loss of movement impeding condi is just too much on that cooldown) alternatively Ranger warhorn needs a buff.
One suggestion, I’m just throwing out possible scenarios, could be a shout-radius blind on a reasonable cooldown. Or possibly a short length fear.

As a person who plays most classes I’ve gotta agree w the initial argument entirely. Going stealth mid-channeling should lose the tracking. I’ve exploited this playing ranger before, it’s all too easy. Sic ‘em is already a very good utility against perma stealthers; I normally switch that utility immediately upon seeing a thief close in. With the basis of thief combat being shifty and dependent upon correctly timed stealths I see the channeling exploit as overkill, especially considering thieves have a trait investment that will put them stealth upon hitting a certain health treshold that is entirely useless if they are caught in a Rapid Fire.
On a related note though, I also agree successful blocks from another character should definitely take a thief out of stealth (if it doesn’t already, I cannot recall).

I will first start by saying this: any elitism in a game is generally met with “I’ll do what I want.” With that said, Frost spirit is a pretty excellent skill to bring in dungeons and should generally see some action. Again, your skills are entirely up to you and you cannot expect somebody else to bend to your will simply because you want them to play your way (in PUGs of course). If it was a guild matter I would say it is a different story. Spotter is a decent skill and if it fits your build you should absolutely utilize it! That said, Ranger DPS is absolutely crushing in kitten kitten stack dungeons and should not be minimized because the ranger chose not to bring a skill YOU deem necessary.
Example: Warriors should bring banners in kitten kitten dungeons because of the obvious benefits to the entire team, but it is not absolutely necessary. If the Warrior chooses not to he is not an auto noob who should be shunned, his DPS should shine through with whatever other skills they brought to the fray.

I play most classes across the board. Mainly playing Ele, Thief, and ranger right now. I see absolutely no issue with Sic ‘em. Firstly, the CD on the skill is quite long paired with the fact that its effects do not last long at all. Thieves have a huge amount of dps and cap closer that can be utilized against a ranger to make this skill almost a moot point. Yes, if you are solely DPSing w backstabs in stealth then this skill is a burden. But pigeonholing yourself into that form of combat is solely on yourself (not to mention calling a skill that keeps you our of stealth for a few seconds is considered cheap to a person who wants to fight a duel entirely in stealth, seems very one-sided to me). Playing as a thief, I’ve been revealed with the skill before and it really doesn’t change the battle much unless it’s a well timed reveal before I need to retreat. I think the skill is quite balanced and this is a bit of a troll post to begin with; if the skill took you out of stealth it would be another conversation. I think mesmers have more to fear of this skill than thieves.

Uneven joins

This has become a serious issue in hot join servers. Any match starts off with the first people joining making it 2v1 and capping most objectives. After about a minute all subsequent joins are just to get on the overloaded team who got the headstart! By the end of the match its a slaughter because people refuse to join the team that got the uneven start. Sure you get volunteers from the winning team, but that is solely because of the bonus they will receive along with the win bonus. I propose a very simply fix to solve the overloaded team issues, assign only a “join random team” button. Asside from if you joined a server w/ a party member you intended to play with (in which case perhaps hot join shouldn’t be your queue), there should be no choice in the matter to join the once overloaded team that is 300 points in advance.
Thoughts? Arguments? Suggestions? Leave em here for the Devs.

This is weak. Rangers have so many deficiencies as is. Here’s an idea, dodge it and close the cap. It’s ridiculous that rangers get a buff and finally have aren’t laughably weak and everyone who cannot adjust cries. Condition removal is next to none unless we stand in a circle and let somebody aoe us to death. Before you QQ about a class needing a nerf, try playing it first to understand what is sacrificed to do those burst damage hits.

Warrior is far from underpowered in spvp right now. In fact they have quite a bit open to them. I would say engi right now are the OP class in most servers. Little to no effort to litter a point w grenades and, of course, the OMFG button mass turret drop. The constant boon supply also makes it comical to even fight one. Even with stun breakers fighting an engi is pretty ridiculous unless you resign to ranged combat, which only makes most more comfortable.

I have no problem playing my ranger…. A bit difficult in bad situations but the overall survivability combined w/ decent damage and great pet skills, keeps you in the game. Honestly, I was never a fan of the shortbow anyway! LB all day
