This has probably already been reported, but sometimes cut-scenes won’t play during the personal story quests. (my game skipped over an entire personal story cut-scene yesterday for my new Sylvari) In addition to this problem, the characters in these scenes are sometimes missing audio: you can see the animation and gestures, but there is no voice for the line.

One thing you can try, but might not work:

Go into your windows device manager, roll back the driver for your graphics card, and then update the driver for your graphics card to the latest version again. See if that helps.

Also, is anything on your machine overclocked? Guild Wars 2 can get buggy with overclocked hardware. Doesn’t always like it.

You could also run a -repair on the client to make sure it’s not an issue with a corrupt data file(s).

Otherwise, not sure what else you could do. It’s hard to determine what the error might be without some sort of error log/report.

nvd3dum.dll is an error with your Nvidia driver.

Go into your device manager in windows, roll the driver back to it’s previous version, and then update again to the recommended driver.

See if that helps.

Permanent crashing

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Silverstarre.5247

Silverstarre.5247

Abomally pretty much said it.

You should be running Windows 7 (64-bit) version with Service Pack 1 installed on it. Guild Wars 2 tech support have stated in other threads that running the 34-bit version of Windows 7 while playing Guild Wars 2 will result in an unstable game. Same thing with not having Service Pack 1 installed on Windows 7 (64).

Make sure ports 80, 443, 6112, and 6600 are open and being allowed through your firewall (if you have it up and running in the background). All 4 of these need to be open to play Guild Wars 2.

You can also try this:

add the following line to the Windows\system 32\drivers….hosts file:

You can try this fix:

OR

1.) Press the windows button in your start menu
2.) Type in cmd in the search box and then click on the black box item that pops up
3.) After the command line, type in: Netsh winsock reset
4.)Hit enter
5.)Wait for a success confirmation
6.)After receiving a success confirmation, restart your computer

Then see if you are able to log in to Guild Wars 2. Let us know if either of these solutions work!

Hope these help.

Black screen issue

Posted by: Silverstarre.5247

Silverstarre.5247

Yes, it does appear to be a connection problem.

You might need to directly contact your internet service provider about the issue.

I had the issue once before, but it seems to have resolved itself after rebooting my computer and resetting my router since I’m not getting that error message anymore and haven’t for several months now. (I know this solution normally doesn’t yield results, just saying it worked for me)

First thing tech support will ask you to do if you file a claim is to run GameAdvisor. You can then check whether or not anything is having trouble connecting to the Guild Wars 2 server. At the very least, you’ll have more detail on what you are having trouble connecting to.

I would run it and see what it says, just to be certain it IS a network problem. If you want to post it here, someone may also be able to help you narrow down where the problem is.

Of course, it may be wise to also file a ticket with tech support and see what they say. At the very least file one so that they know about the problem.

In the meantime, you can try the below and see if it helps (if you haven’t tried it already):

add the following line to the Windows\system 32\drivers….hosts file:

174.35.56.164 assetcdn.101.arenanetworks.com

Note that your computer will have to be in admin mode, if it isn’t already, in order for you to add this on.

It should also be noted that Guild Wars 2 can crash if you are using any overclocked hardware on your computer. Doesn’t always agree with it. If you do, try setting the hardware back to a regular setting.

Repair on Windows 8 ?

I think all you need to do to open up the search option is to hold down the Windows button while pressing Q?

There are wonderful Windows 8 tutorials available on Youtube that will make learning her OS easier for her.

And I would just try the -repair command first before getting into anything else. See if that solution works before doing anything complicated, especially if she is nervous about her PC.

Better yet, if she’s that nervous to mess with anything, she might be better off filing a ticket with Tech Support and having them help her out.

Your GPU is not powerful enough to run Guild Wars 2, which is why it keeps crashing. Your CPU also only just meets minimum requirements.

Unfortunately there isn’t a fix for this unless you’re willing to invest in a better GPU (and I would also recommend investing in a better CPU too)

I don’t think upgrading to 8.1 would help, since you said it used to happen with Windows 7 as well, but you may want to see if a new Service Pack for your version of Windows is available. You seem to have a lot of Windows related errors in your log. (mmc.exe and flash player are showing up for some reason as “the signature problem”?) Sometimes windows will update known errors with their dll files and programs. This could help with the crashing.

This will only work if the access denied error is in relation to your internet connection, however. Still, it’s quick and worth a short before doing some of the more lengthy suggestions.

I am thinking, however, it still comes back around to a dll error and you need to safely uninstall and then do a fresh installation of the game. I’ll go take another look at your error report and see if there is anything I missed. There is a LOT to read there!

How much memory do you have allotted to your SSD? C0000005 errors are usual a windows system related error. In this case, it’s a potential error with your memory? Adjust the memory by taking it down a notch and see if the game will run.

0×000cc07b errors can happen for a couple of reasons. When it does happen to an application, it will no longer work until the error is resolved. Few things:

1.) There is a problem with the DLed program itself. It needs to be completely removed from Windows via appwiz.cpl (DO NOT just delete the files from your computer. Uninstall them correctly, or you WILL have errors), your computer rebooted, and then a clean DL can be DLed from either your digital copy of GW2 or reinstalled via your DVD-rom

2.)It might be a Registry error. This can be fixed by running a registry cleaning program. If you have one, run it and see if it fixes the problem.

I would also take Beldin’s advice and maybe do a clean install on your HDD instead of your SSD using method 1 if this doesn’t work on your SSD.

Sorry, I know it’s a lot of suggestions I’m giving you.

It does like there is a dll error. Something you can try to fix it (note that just deleting and doing a fresh install of the program will not work for this type of dll error).

1. Open Computer by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Computer.

2. Right-click the hard disk drive that you want to check, and then click Properties.

3. Click the Tools tab, and then, under Error-checking, click Check Now. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

4. To check for both file errors and physical errors, select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors.

5. Click Start.

Depending upon the size of your hard disk, this may take several minutes. For best results, don’t use your computer for any other tasks while it’s checking for errors.

Once that is complete, Please navigate to your Documents > Guild Wars 2 folder and in there you should see a file called Local.dat. Delete this file.

Next:

1. Navigate to your Guild Wars 2 installation folder.

2. Right-click on “GW2.exe” and select “Create Shortcut.”

3. Rename this shortcut to “Guild Wars 2 Repair.”

4. Right-click on this shortcut and select “Properties.”

5. Edit the “Target” line to include -repair at the end.

Note: Please make sure -repair is outside of the quotes

Correctly Formatted Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe” -repair
Incorrectly Formatted Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe -repair”

6. Once completed, click “Ok” to save your changes.

If you get an error trying to save, your target line may not have the correct format. Please try step 5 again.

7. Double click “Guild Wars 2 Repair” to start the repair process.

Once completed, please try starting Guild Wars 2 again and see if this resolves your issue.

Repair on Windows 8 ?

Posted by: Silverstarre.5247

Silverstarre.5247

If she has Windows 8.1 she should make sure that her drivers are approved ones by Windows 8.1 (known issue)

Since doing a fresh install of the game didn’t work, it could also be a damaged .dll file on her end as well. She could try right-clicking on the C:\ drive icon under “My Computer” in the start menu, go to the “tools” tab, and under error check, click check now.

Under “check now” she wants to check for both file errors and physical errors, and after selecting both, wants to check the box that says “automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors”.

Then click “Start”. The process takes several minutes, and she should try not to do things on the computer while it’s checking/repairing the system.

Once that is complete, navigate to your Documents > Guild Wars 2 folder and in there you should see a file called Local.dat. Delete this file.

Then run -repair. (Very important she follows this step) Just doing a fresh install of the game may result in getting the same problem again. -Repair could potentially patch this problem while a clean install wouldn’t have the patch needed to fix the issue.

This may help with any damaged files she might have on Windows that are interfering with the game running properly. After it finishes. follow any other prompts Windows tells you to do.

Then restart your computer.

This MIGHT help fix the problem, but it’s hard to say without an error log that shows exactly why she is crashing.

I’m hesitant to tell you to update your BIOS unless absolutely necessary, since updating the BIOS on some computers can mess with your recovery system. Updating your BIOS from the motherboard’s manufacturer’s website is not recommended (if that was your plan).

Do you have Windows 8 or Windows 8.1? (should have asked that first) If it’s Windows 8.1 you must use approved drivers by 8.1.

Depends on your GPU. If you have Nvidia cards, you can check with Nvidia Geforce Experience. You can also go through windows device manager and do a “check for driver updates” that way.

If you want to post your error log, I wouldn’t mind looking it over and seeing if I can spot anything. Second set of eyes never hurts, although I can’t make promises I’ll be able to fix anything.

Weird avg and game interaction

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Silverstarre.5247

Silverstarre.5247

It’s a known issue with AVG.

Other users have this problem and claim it is a false positive.

You won’t be able to just double click on the GW2 icon to play GW2 at the moment since AVG has probably isolated the file to keep it from “contaminating” your PC. You’ll have to get AVG to allow the GW2.exe. Not sure how that’s done on AVG, since I don’t have it.

Is the issue with the awesomium process.exe? AVG doesn’t like it for some reason, but it’s a legit program used by Guild Wars 2 for the trading post. It gets DLed each time you play and then is taken off when you sign out of the game.

The game should work fine on Windows 8.

Make sure your drivers are all up to date.

However, it might be a .dll issue with Windows 8, which is why the errors aren’t fixing themselves in spite of all your client repairs. Are any .dll errors popping up when you run GameAdvisor? If so, what does the error say?

Sounds like your drivers might need to be updated. My GW2 gets buggy when I don’t have the latest drivers installed, especially after new patches. Check and make sure you have the latest drivers for your GPU and then see if it keeps happening. You can use Nvidia’s Geforce Experience to see if you have the latest drivers.

Or as DragonFlykm said your graphics card could be on the way out. Does it tend to overheat a lot? Does your screen black out occasionally whilst running programs? Any pixelation when running programs? Lines through the screen?

Keep us posted! Hopefully it’s not having to replace the card! The GTX770 is an expensive replacement unless it’s under warranty.

Have you made sure that all your graphics drivers and DirectX are up-to-date/have the latest patch?

I had this happen to me once where I kept getting connection errors after playing for random periods of time. Turned out my graphics card driver wasn’t updated (was right after they had made a patch to the game, too) and it was causing the game to disconnect at random.

If all drivers are up-to-date, have you tried running GameAdvisor? It will help narrow down where the connection problem is originating from. If you run the program and post the test file here, someone might be able to help narrow down where your problem is.

Alternatively, you could try running the GW2.exe program as an administrator and see if it will patch then. (fairly unlikely this will solve the problem, but worth a shot)

Error while installing

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Silverstarre.5247

Silverstarre.5247

Um, weird question….is your computer in DOS mode? The message pops up in the error report is why I’m asking. That seems rather strange to me.

The error report also seems to say that some of the data is corrupt and so decompressions and patches failed.

Is this your first time installing Guild Wars 2 or are you trying to update the client?

My suggestion would be to uninstall and re-download Guild Wars 2 if this is your first time ever installing the game…

OR

If you are just trying to download the patch, do a -repair on the existing client to repair the corrupted data.

Sorry for late replies to both of you, First time installing, I’ve removed all files associated with the game and tried and I still get the error. Any suggestions on what to do?

Hi! I found this in regards to the ntdll error you’ve been receiving. Maybe some of these suggestions can help?

“1.Restart your computer. The ntdll.dll error you’re receiving could be due to a one-time, temporary issue and a simple reboot may resolve the problem completely.

2. Reinstall the program if the ntdll.dll error only displays when you use a specific program.

If the software program has any updates or service packs available, install them too. The software’s programmers may have identified an issue with the program that caused the ntdll.dll error and then issued a patch for it.

Note: Third party software programs that have been installed on your computer are almost always the cause of ntdll.dll errors. The remainder of these troubleshooting steps resolve ntdll.dll issues only rarely.

3. Check the Windows service pack level you’re running and then check Microsoft’s support site to see if there is a more recent service pack available for installation. Some issues that caused ntdll.dll errors have been corrected in these service packs from Microsoft.

4. Selectively disable Internet Explorer add-ons. If your ntdll.dll error is displaying when you start, run, or close Internet Explorer, an add-on may be causing the problem. Disabling each add-on, one by one, will determine which add-on is the culprit (if any).

Note: As a workaround, assuming the ntdll.dll error really is Internet Explorer related, install and use a competing browser like Firefox.

5. Rename the NLSPATH system variable. If your Windows system does not have this environment variable, skip this step.

Note: This is a troubleshooting step for this issue only. Be sure to set this path back to its original name if this does not resolve the ntdll.dll issue.

6. Disable Data Execution Prevention for Explorer.exe. As in the previous step, this is for troubleshooting the ntdll.dll issue only. If this doesn’t resolve the problem, return the Data Execution Prevention settings to their previous settings.

7. Disable UAC. This is a workaround for some causes of ntdll issues, but could serve as a permanent solution if not using User Account Control is something you’re comfortable with on your computer.

8. Update drivers for any hardware in your computer where updated drivers are available. Outdated drivers sometimes cause ntdll.dll errors.

9. Test your memory for damage. If you’re receiving ntdll.dll messages, one possible cause could be a bad memory module in your system. Testing your memory will either identify a problem or clear your RAM of any responsibility.

Replace your memory if it fails any of your tests.

10.Ntdll.dll errors could occur if you have an Iomega Zip drive on the same IDE cable as the hard drive inside your computer. If so, move the Zip drive to a dedicated IDE controller.

11.Replace the IDE cable connecting the hard drive to the motherboard. If this cable is damaged or malfunctioning, one symptom could be the ntdll.dll error you’re seeing.

12. Repair your installation of Windows. If individual software reinstallations fail to resolve the problem, a repair installation of Windows will replace the ntdll.dll file.

13. Perform a clean installation of Windows. A clean installation will completely remove Windows from your PC and install it again from scratch. I don’t recommend this option unless you’ve exhausted all previous troubleshooting ideas and you’re comfortable that the ntdll.dll error is not caused by a single program (Step #2).

Note: If a single program or plugin is causing the ntdll.dll error, reinstalling Windows and then reinstalling all of the same software may lead you right back to the same ntdll.dll error.

14.While extremely rare, if everything else has failed, including the clean installation from the last step, you could be dealing with a hardware issue with your hard drive."

A few things that may fix the issue.:

1.) Check that your drivers are up-to-date, even if you “just updated them”. Sometimes you think your driver is updated to the most recent version when it is not. (I’ve done it a few times)

2.) Run another system repair. It sounds like you had a while between repairs (unless I misunderstood your post), so perhaps there is just a corrupt file again. It looks like you are missing data according to the error log.

3.) Check that your DirectX is up-to-date.

Research the card before you buy one. I would go to the dell website. They have an option on there that will let you look up graphics cards that are compatible with your build. Once you know what’s compatible, you can either buy from Dell or go a buy the card elsewhere.

Repair on Windows 8 ?

She should be able to use the shortcut method. All she has to do to get to the “old” desktop interface is click on the desktop tile.

In order to search for the file on Windows 8, all she has to do is type in “Guild Wars 2” and the search menu will pop up on the side. From there she should be able to access anything (files, directory, etc) with Guild Wars 2 in it.

For what she needs to do, she needs to select the folder directory for Guild Wars 2.

Wait, okay, are you saying that she can use the shortcut method on Windows 8 too? Because I know -I- can use it on Windows 7, but I don’t know how in the world to find her .exe files or how to make shortcuts and all of that on Windows 8. It sounds like things are a whole other world in that operating system. (makes it so much more difficult since she’s in Canada and I’m in Maine and I can’t sit at her PC and check it out myself!)

Resetting her Windows 8 install seems very drastic to fix a game issue. I’d think before doing that you’d try uninstalling and reinstalling the game and also checking to make sure drivers are up to date. Right?

I don’t know anything about SFC/Scannow but I’ll look that up. Thanks.

Hi Anjalena

Assuming she didn’t customize where she placed the game on her computer, the file is probably located under c:\program files\guild wars 2. She could also just search using “Guild Wars 2” in the search programs and files option in the start menu to find the directory.

When she goes into the guild wars 2 folder she should see a file with the Guild Wars 2 icon which is the Guild Wars 2.exe file.

She needs to Right Click on that file and select “Create Shortcut” (Edit: It’s under “send to”). For ease of use, she should create the shortcut to her desktop. Once the shortcut has been create on her desktop have her rename it to Guild Wars 2 Repair so she doesn’t confuse it with the regular game client (this is important).

Once she has renamed the file have her right click on the shortcut she just created and have her go to “properties”. She will see the directory line for the game file. It will look something like this:

“c:\programs\guild wars 2\gw2.exe”

What she is going to do is then put a space and add -repair outside of the quotation marks so that it looks something like this:

“c:\programs\guild wars 2\gw2.exe” -repair

Once she has done that, she should click on Guild Wars 2 Repair. It will open up the Guild Wars 2 menu and will start repairing the game client.

VERY IMPORTANT: Do not sign in after the game client finishes repairing or the moment you log out it will repair the game client again (which takes awhile). Once it is done repairing, click on the normal Guild Wars 2 icon to sign into the game and play.

I hope this is helpful.

Which message error code are you getting? I’m not trying to sound rude, but you need to give people in the forums a little more information if you want them to help you.
