Confused re: Ranger Solo Builds

in Ranger

Hi all,

recently came back to Ranger after a long hiatus and have been enjoying my return! Their revitalisation in PvE with the Druid is what made me really consider the return.

I’ve not played for a long time (May2015) and took to the forums to find an effective “Solo PvE/Events Farming/HoT build”

I checked the sticky on the forum :New Builds List – 50+ builds – All modes

The two builds that are listed there both use Axe as a MH weapon and focus heavily on conditions (Sinisted armour/weapons)

Now, I’m reading on the forums that many people say Axe as MH is very underpowered and not in a good place etc.?

Just a little confused as to what I should be running around in.

YES, I know “Any build is fine for solo content” and I understand that, but I do like being as fast/easy as possible as I go through HoT zones and event farming.

Is a Condi Axe MH build not good? Should I stick with traditional power builds for solo content?

What’s confused me is the thread’s sticky there are only two listed “PvE/Open World” builds and they’re both Condi builds, which made me think that was the commonly perceived most effective?

Any help/information would be much appreciated,

Thanks!

Hi all,

About to return after not playing since May2015.
I understand HoT is out now, and much of the class balance has therefore likely shifted from what I once knew, especially with the new class specializations that were released.

Basically, I don’t mind hopping characters a little, but I’m the kind of person who likes to stick with one main at a time for all the aspects I enjoy in the game. Currently I have a lv 80 Guardian/Mesmer/Ranger/Necro and a Theif (who I loved but found underwhelming at times)

I’m hoping to get some insight on where these (and the other) classes sit in each of the categories I’m interested in. I understand each class can be effective in all games modes, but I also like to be as effective and sought after in groups as I can be.

Any insight on how the current classes fit balance-wise or “state”-wise in the following categories I enjoy would be much appreciated.

PvE (Solo story missions/farming etc.)
FotM (I was lv.50)
Dungeons (Doesn’t matter so much anymore as I’ve heard there are nerfs to rewards?)
sPvP

Not really interested in WvW at all.

Any insight would be hugely appreciated just to give me an idea on how the state of each class in these categories may have changed since I last played, especially with the new classes.

Thanks in advance!

State of the Game

Hi all,

I’ve sunk over 1000 hrs into gw2 since release, mostly on/off. However, I am now planning to come back from a pretty long break (Haven’t played since about May 2015)

Game is installing now so will get to play tomorrow after work and just wondering on the state of a few different things so I’m not totally clueless going in:

Dungeons – I used to run dungeons a fair bit, but have read that people aren’t really running them anymore due to rewards going down? Can anyone elaborate on this? Is it true?

FotM – I ran fotm quite a lot, and have lv.50 Fractals on my Guardian who was my main PvE character. I understand there have been some major changes to fotm? A rundown would be great…

Also, just regarding class balance, obviously the last time I played there were no special classes ie. Dragon Hunter for Guardians etc. but from what I had read, it seemed like each new specialization would really help fill any “holes” that particular class had. Ie. I remember for Guardian, they were getting Longbows which filled the hole of lackluster range options for them.
Did this end up being the case? Does everyone run the new classes or is there still reason not to use them?

Lots of questions I know, but just hoping to not be completely clueless before I start. Any further information you can give on the state of PvE/PvP etc. would be very much appreciated for someone who hasn’t played for 7 months.

Thanks!

Hi all,

I have around 1,000 hrs in GW2 since release, mostly in large chunks here in there with breaks in-between.

I’m thinking of coming back to play again, wanting to get used to the game again before HoT comes out.

I stopped playing about 5 months ago. I stopped before the trait system was re-worked etc.

Just after some insight on what’s changed since then in terms of class balance and usefulness.

Would be great for someone to give a quick rundown on each class’s “state” in each of the game’s main areas (Dungeons, FOTM, PvP, WvW etc.) so I can see if there’s been many major changes, and also help me decide which of my mains to focus my time on.

FYI, I have Ranger/Mesmer/Thief/Necromancer/Guardian(was my main) at 80.

Any insight is hugely appreciated,

Thanks!

Awesome! Any particular reasons you prefer Necro over Warrior in PvP?

Necro or Warrior

Hi all,

Currently, I have 4×80′s. Guardian, Mesmer, Ranger, Theif.

Am now wanting to roll either a Warrior or Necromancer!
My Guardian is what I use in all Dungeons/FotM. He’s fully ascended with maxed out AR. I don’t particularly enjoy my Thief or Mesmer in PvE/PvP anymore, so they go largely unused. I use my Ranger for everything else (solo, and PvP) but am starting to get over the pew pew monotony.

I want a Warrior or Necro! They will be used strictly in sPvP (not WvW) and solo PvE content. (SW farm, mapping etc.)

Because of this, I don’t care that necros are generally lack-luster in dungeons/fotm, since I have my guardian anyways.

Which class would you recommend solely on sPvP and solo farming? How are Necros in sPvP? Are they strong? Is it terrormancer or go home?
What about warrior? I know they’re easy to play, but are they strong in spvp?

Currently leaning towards necro, but not really wanting to play a class that is considered underpowered…

Please give me some suggestions and your opinion, much appreciated!

D/P vs S/P - Differences in playstyle

in Thief

Posted by: SirLeJosh.7263

SirLeJosh.7263

Hi,

Rolled a Thief about 2 months ago and have been loving it. Mostly, I was leveling her solely for PvP, but fell more and more in love as time went on and have been using her for much more!

Currently, I’ve sunk about 80 matches into learning Thief sPvP using the D/P and SB build that is listed in metabattle.

Playing in AUS, there’s a strange bug that I often get (all my friends get the same) where the HS-Steal-(Stealth)-Backstab combo only works about 50% of the time. The other times it will give you the steal bonuses, then instantly teleport you back to where you were so the backstab is no longer possible…

Anyways, that being said, I’ve decided I want to try out either the S/D or S/P builds that are listed on metabattle since they’re most likely less reliant on such combos that are hard to pull off in the heat of a battle with bag lag/delay.

Can someone experienced with both playstyles give me a rundown on the major differences? And give some advice on which build would be better?

When I get home from work today, I want to give a different build a go, and any advice or pointers early on would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Karma Train - Returning Player

Hi all,

Quick question/observation from someone who hasn’t played since June.

I sunk a good 400hrs or so during my last playthrough, and thoroughly enjoyed it. During my time with GW2 I’d never really delved into PvP/HotM/WvW much at all.
My time was mostly spent levelling (Have 80Mes, 80Guard, 80Rang) and doing World Completion, Dungeons, FotM, World Bosses etc.

Then my friend introduced me to the Karma Train in EotM.

I was hooked. It was great fun for a while, but then it started to burn out a bit.
My issue at this point was, I found the rewards from eotm karma-training to be a little too good…

The t6 mats, the gear drops (I think I got lucky with some ascended), the karma-fest and the ridiculous amount of exp.

I know it’s a strange complaint, but I really like to maximise my rewards in limited playtime. Therefore, once I was kind of “over” the karma train, I found it hard to enjoy anything else and got burnt out due to lackluster rewards.

So please, answer me this:

Is my complaint even valid anymore? Are things different now 6 months later?
Was my complaint ever valid? Or was it just a misconception?

I’m so close to being convinced to return, and I know, in my own stupid way, the answer to this question will probably be the decider for me.

Thanks in advance.

Guardian/Mesmer/Ranger

in PvP

Hi all,

after a long hiatus (since March 2014) I’m returning to GW2! My current mains are lvl80 Mesmer and lvl80 Ranger, with an interest in Guardians also (only level 11 though)

My favourite things to do are Solo PvE (World Bosses, mapping, farming etc.) and Dungeons/FotM

With the changes to sPvP reward tracks etc. I’m very interested in getting into sPvP in my return! I’d love it if you could give me your opinion on whhere these three classes rank in your opinion and why on these three areas:

sPvP effectiveness
Solo PvE/World Events
Dungeons/FotM

Thank you in advance!

The classes I’m currently interested in “maining” would be Guardian, Ranger, Mesmer.

Of these three, where would you rank their general effectiveness in:

Solo PvE
sPvP
Dungeons/FotM

These are the areas I’m most interested in. I often do Dungeons/FotM when I can, and if I don’t have time or am in downtime I will do general mapping.
Since returning and seeing the new rewards tracks that are accessible through sPvP, I will now definitely be getting into that also.

Thanks Vayne,

Sounds the same as when I was previously playing. I don’t use bears at all and my Dungeon/FotM builds were melee (Sw/WH – GS) so no issues there.

My query is more regarding balance changes since I last played, as I already had a pretty good understanding of how to play the classes.

Any other thoughts? Perhaps even regarding other classes and their new stance in the endgame?

Balance changes since March 2014

Hi all!

After a long hiatus (4months) from GW2, I’m returning after hearing some awesome changes that took place, especially referring to the April update.
I’ve spent some time reading up on the major changes, and they sound awesome.

My question to you, however, is…

What are the major balance changes that these updates have had? Are certain classes stronger at different aspects? Weaker? Are Warr/Guard still the top dogs in PUF FotM and Dungeons? Are all classes good in sPvP (something I’m wanting to get into now) or are some lackluster?

I mained an 80 Ranger and 80 Mesmer. When I played, I always LOVED my Ranger, but was often discouraged from playing him due to always being told Rangers are fail and the Pet AI ruins their ability to be highly regarded in FotM etc. I leveled a Mesmer due to this very reason…

Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated to make my transition a little less daunting. I’m the type of person who really likes to know that the class I’m playing is worth the time put into them. I enjoy playing a class that is needed in group situations, whether PvE or PvP.

PvE/Dungeon Melee Build

Thanks a lot for the advice,

I think the build is slowly starting to make more sense for me,
I’ll also be carrying a GS for those few bosses where melee isn’t the best choice, and for world bosses.

PvE/Dungeon Melee Build

in Mesmer

SirLeJosh.7263

Hi all,

Been playing for some time now, only recently deciding to roll a Mesmer based on a friend’s suggestion and have definitely found my favourite profession!
I’ve just hit 80 (last night) and spent a little time today doing research on a good build (at work) that would be interchangeable for both:

1. PvE mapping and soloing
2. Dungeons/Fractals

I found a HUGE amount of variety in guides, forum posts etc. Rather than following any of the guides I found definitively, I’ve come up with the following. My aim was to be viable in both soloing and dungeons without having to change traits/skills every time I switch between the two…

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fgAQRAsc8dnUEFTbRNS1gWbk4MDmvc0HwepH4m3yG-e

NOTE ON SKILLS – Skills are currently set for mapping.
Dungeons – I’d swap Blink and Decoy for Feedback and either Portal Entre (for CoF) or Phantasmal Disenchanter

Any advice on this build? Does it look viable or is there any glaring problems?

I’m currently running full zerker gear with Superior Rune of the Traveler.
