This RNG is one of the worse things in the game. I have spent HOURS farming boxes and all I have to show for it is an urge to uninstall. I WISH I was exaggerating, but I have opened a few thousands of those stupid boxes and I am lucky if I get a freakin’ cupcake. I didnt get a weapon skin last time, and looks like I wont this time either. Well done Anet. Perhaps I am spending too much time and money on this game.
Bought a Red Ale kit and brewed and bottled it up. I just needed to figure out the labels.

Could not agree more. We need a straight answer here, not one of “it’s not a treadmill, it is progression”. Just let us know if Asended going to be thee best of the best, top of the line for all time, or will they be adding in better stat stuff 3 months after you can get a full set of Ascended set? Letting us know one way or the other would get me out of this limbo of wanting to play/not wanting to play.
Box sales and cash shop. Granted, I won’t be spending any more money on this game… cant stand treadmills, er, “gear progression”.
So, we just get one person coming on here saying “it is gear progression, not gear treadmill” and that is what suppose to make us feel better about it? What about those that promised us that they weren’t going to be putting out better stat gear to for us to grind, or gated content? I can’t believe I fell for it.
I am just curious if the legendary weapons will up grade to whatever the next level of gear they bring out. If I go ahead and work for a legendary, will it always scale up to whatever the newest tier in the treadmill.. er, I mean “gear progression” is?
As nice as this would be, they ain’t going to do it. They will just call it “gear progression” and say it isnt a treadmill. There is no going back now. I will still play from time to time (untill they add in the monthly fee), but me, nor anyone else in my household, will be spending a dime on their cash shop.. even when they do add in the pay to win stuff.
More gear progression is the only way this game will last.
100% Correct. People keep throwing the 1% value around but you are incredibly mistaken. Some people have more time that they can accomplish things faster. Everyone’s play time is “their” play time. Everyone has different goals and wants to achieve them. I really don’t like the verbage thrown around about hurrying through content and not enjoying the game. Again everyone is different and we all enjoy different things “differently” So many people are crying about being left behind or unable to do dungeons because their gear is so bad. How are you going to get left behind? How is it you dont already have a master crafter, how is it you dont have a full set of exotic or close to already?
I can understand how people can be quite rude about allowing people in their group and throwing the gear score around, I truly do but at the same time are you already joining dungeon groups wearing master gear? If so shame on you.
No one is arguing that the game has the potential to be the very Best MMO created but not having any progression whatsoever will absolutely kill the game. I believe that Anet now see’s this and is going to do what ever they can to stop the flood of people leaving. The game is out 2 months and they are already allowing friends to play via trial. That is a bad sign no matter how you spin it.
Yes I have a love/hate relationship with this game lol.
Thing is, they promised that this game was not going to have that. After the new tier of gear comes out and you “beat” that, then what? Another new tier? You might as well go back to WoW.. they have that perfected. Anet promised a different experience, too bad they are starting to listen to the WoW kiddies and going down this path… it will not end well.
This is some bad reading comprehension. They were saying that players STARTED on legendaries way before they expected, not that people HAVE legendaries before expected.
It is true that for a casual gamer (that I consider myself) getting exotics is too easy and getting legendary is way too hard. I have mostly exotics and it will be a short time till I’m fully in exotics (maybe a week or two more). After that, I’ll play WvW a lot, then I’ll probably go for 100% completion, and maybe roll some alts. But I guarantee you my gaming time will decrease.
I’m okay with this and I feel like I have gotten all of my money worth and then some. I also don’t plan to stop playing any time sooner. However I’m completely for higher gear. It gives me something to strive for and a goal to have when I log on.
The only thing you care about is the gear. You aren’t logging on because you truly enjoy playing the game, you consider gear your content. That’s not what this game is (or was). I don’t see obtaining a legendary after three months as casual. That’s quite a large amount of play time and an incredible amount of farming.
It’s OK for gaming time to decrease. That’s normal. That’s to be expected. I thought that was why we got content updates (not tier updates) and expansions, but apparently not. Apparently we are supposed to grind gear to keep us occupied. I have played hard core (several hours a day almost every day since launch) and I didn’t make a legendary my goal. I run dungeons, I WvW, I have several alts. I have so much content to complete it’s overwhelming. This new tier simply puts all my alts further way from being geared to enjoy all content, it devalues the gear (and the transmutation stones I paid money to obtain and use on suddenly second class gear) I worked hard to obtain under the premise this was max. Moving the goal line because I reached it was a garbage decision.
There is plenty of content to play, I have no idea what problem Linsey is talking about in her post because I’m not experiencing it and neither are the people in my guild. We do see a problem with new tiers.
This right here is perfect. I also thought I had goals with my alts (and my main) but turns out Anet went back on their manifesto and really makes me feel like I am wasting my time playing this game now.
You guys are really nuts. I don’t think Anet is gonne make this new gear hard to obtain. When you always see the same stat on gear doesn’t feel right if you ask me.
Then maybe you should of asked that of yourself before purchasing the game. This dogma was known months before launch, with AN officials preaching against gear treadmills many times.
Then again, I guess the joke’s on us. We fell for it hook, line and sinker.
I guess that is what upsets me the most. I believed in Anet, I thought they were different, guess I was just a sucker.
I voted. Still looking for some official word about going back on the promise of no gear grind. I hate being lied to. Oh well, plenty of games out there that want my money.
I have to agree with this.. PLEASE KEEP YOUR PROMISE ANET… no wow gear grinds. I thought I was set for MMO’s now that I am getting older and don’t have as much time, looks like I was wrong. Wonder what that Elder Scrolls game will be like.
I know this will just be lost and never read by anet, but gotta say, REALLY disappointed. So looking forward to not having to worry about what tier armor I need to get, or what resists I need to play a game. Now I gotta start looking for a raiding guild and go through all that BS again if I want to “advance” my character. No thanks. Guess I wont be starting that Guardian.
The problem with large group raids is that it leads to elitism.. and this game goes out of its way to not have that. You can’t even argue that point, just reading through this thread you got a couple of raiders already telling people they aren’t good enough at playing a game to “raid”.
Also, raiding gets done by a small percent of players but take huge amounts of work to put into a game. From what I have seen, anet wants everyone to enjoy what they have worked on, not just some people.
One last thing, raiding is also an over saturated market. Every game has been trying to copy the WoW formula of “get highest level, raid with 10-40 other people”. That end game has been done, and done, and done. Time to try something new. There is plenty of other places to get your raiding fix.
All for the new kind of game. But done over and over? MMOs are made in pretty much the same way. More or less. Would be nice to have a game thats not lacking something people are asking for. Why should a game just please a majority of people when it can please the whole community? So “the majority” you speak of will simply quit just because there is more or larger content? Makes no sense.
Proving my point about the raiding mentality. If you can stop putting words in my mouth for a moment.. I never said the majority would leave, I SAID that it take alot of work and resources to make and balance raids, raids that are only done by a minority of players. So far, and from everything I have read from them, they choose to devote that time and money on things everyone (including you) can enjoy.
As for just opening up how many people can get into the dungeons they have now… there is already many threads about it being nothing but a zergfest. How much work and time will be needed to make them balanced? And then you have the vocal minority whining that they are not getting better lootz.
I would love a lfg tool. I feel silly sitting in a lower level area, spamming general chat about looking a a group. I just sat there in front of Twilight arbor for almost an hour trying to get a group together for story mode. I could have been out killing things!
