I would like to add that the explorer in me was disappointed there was no map completion for Southsun Cove, overall I really like the island and the events and jumping puzzles.

I do not like Agony and gated content due to game mechanics/gear checks. I hope that this is not the course the game is headed in. I would like to see elite skills for weapon slots 1-5 that we can swap out like we do for 6-0. This would be a great way to progress at 80 and take on tougher challenges and at the same time give us much more customization. More cosmetic options to work for too.

My biggest issue is with Agony, also known as Radiance and Critigation, this will gate content and in my opinion has no place in GW2.

I would much rather see progression through adding more skills, adding elite 1-5 weapon skills that we can choose a load out for different situations like we can for 6-0, make them a grind to unlock even. More cosmetic options and more difficult content. There is many other ways they can add to and build on besides the power creep/treadmill/gating through gear.

It is a very scary direction imo for the game to be going in and I hope that Anet can come up with something better moving forward. I am not jumping ship or screaming the sky is falling but I am concerned about the future of this world I enjoy.

Thoughts on Ascended Gear? [Merged threads]

Smitt.8602

While I am not totally against the addition of ascended gear. I do not like gated content or long gear grinds. I am taking a wait and see approach for this. As far as progression is concerned I would much rather see things like:

New weapon/utility/elite skills added to the game. I would like to be able to upgrade/change my 1-5 skills for weapons. I think this would add a new layer to the game and allow us to tackle harder content by naturally upgrading our weapon skills. Make them cost skill points even…

Raise the level cap and add meaningful content accordingly, including crafting recipes etc. etc.

Achievements that give skill points and/or other things, more titles too.

There are many more ways they could add rewarding content for level 80s that doesn’t involve gating content. I hope that they tread very carefully with this because it is a slippery slope and once started it is hard to turn back.

I like what it is. Adding progression in this way is not a bad thing.

Is the game just supposed to stay capped at level 80? If they ever raise it you will have progression again.

Should the only things new we see just be skins?

Yes it is bad, yes it should stay capped at 80 forever, and yes, all new equipment within existing categories should be cosmetic-only.

The reasoning is pretty simple: There is no progression. The content will always be balanced around the maximum power that a player can maintain. Giving the player 5% more damage is just going to mean that new content will have 5% more HP. There is no progression.

What is there is a forced downgrading of every player’s equipment. Exotic equipment is the current maximum that players can attain, and so content is balanced around Exotics. Rare equipment is viable, but noticeably suboptimal. Green equipment can be used, but it will definitely feel weak, and so on.
When Ascended equipment is the maximum, since there is no actual progression no matter what the maximum equipment level is, the natural result is that every other equipment tier is shunted down one level. Exotics become the new Rares – viable, but suboptimal. Rares become the new Greens – workable, but weak. Greens take on the role of Blues, Blues are as good as the old Whites, and Whites are basically unheard of at level 80 to begin with.

So nothing’s changed. Nobody’s made any (forward) progress. But everybody’s equipment is functionally busted down by one tier, and a player has to grind out the new gear just to get back to the exact same spot they were at to begin with. That is why it’s called a treadmill. You can run, but you’ll make no progress, and if you don’t run, then you get moved backward.

It’s a losing proposition for everybody involved, unless you like the process of getting to the maximum power plateau more than you like playing at the maximum power plateau. Much of the GW2 player base prefers playing while maxed out to getting maxed out, and finds the latter to be a slog that they only want to have to do once. That’s why this current blowback is more intense, pervasive, and vocal than any other complaint this community has seen, since the game launched.

No matter how you break it down if you see the little numbers on the screen go up when you hit an enemy then you are progressing. You can certainly view obtaining ascended gear as progress and if I can make an ascended back piece in the MF then it is hardly a treadmill. Perhaps it would have been better to just make them slightly better exotics?

I think people are highly overreacting. As long as it is easy-ish to obtain just like the exotics/other gear in the game than it will be just fine. If it does turn into a gated mess on a treadmill than that would be bad news.

I loathe gear grinding and gated content. I don’t think it is going to be like that. They say it will be possible to obtain these gear items in all sorts of ways so you don’t need to run the same dungeon over and over to acquire. It is another category that is only a tiny bit better than exotic. With it being obtainable through multiple ways it is more akin to the kind of character progression you have with gear as you level up (greens to rares, to exotics, to ascended). It isn’t T2 and it doesn’t require long nights on the treadmill.

I like what it is. Adding progression in this way is not a bad thing.

Should the only things new we see just be skins?

As long as it is akin to the character progression we see as we level and outfit with better gear/stats/skins and not require a treadmill to obtain it so you can see new content (gated). Then I am all for it.

I do not like the idea of end-game gear treadmill grinding. This is far from that however. It is just another armor category with new dungeon mehanics. IMO a little character progression along with cosmetic is a good way to go, as long as it doesn’t lock you out of future content if you do not have said items or they become increasing difficult to acquire and require huge amounts of time.

This was done in GW1 too and rather well also. I would not be worried to much about it. I am sure Anet knows that it is a slippery slope and will take caution not to turn it into gear grind 2.

The new endgame content coming looks great and I am looking forward to playing through it.

Armour in GW2 is largely bland/underwhelming

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Smitt.8602

Heavy armor is vast and varied and light armor has a decent amount of variety but medium armor is just sad. I am sure as the game matures they will continue to add different styles/sets for the armor types.

Imo heavy armor has some of the best looks I have seen in any mmo. It is right up there with AoC which has really great looking heavy armor too.

Of course this topic is highly subjective and based on personal tastes.

Couple things I would like to see...

Smitt.8602

First off let me say that I am truly enjoying my experience with GW2 so far and I will be a longtime player. There are a few things that I would like to comment on that would make the game that much more better in my opinion.

In no particular order:

*Preview items on the TP

*A way to save builds for quick swapping.

*A way to turn off xp gain. Sometimes I feel the levels are coming to quickly.

*A way to catalog what styles you have unlocked. Something like DCUO, make it where you need to use a transmutation stone to add it to your closet and after that it is always there as a vanity option.

*More and better explanation of stats. How much magic find do I have and how effective is it?

*More meaningful rewards for WvW something persistant that encourages more long term involvement.

Those are all I got right now. Not gamebreakers by any means just some things I would like to see. Content-wise I would love to see customizable housing and more social systems as well as more great content. Thanks for the great game Anet and keep up the good!

Wow, some of the posts in this thread are just down right dumb. Anet didn’t lie about anything. Why didn’t you convert your gems to gold and just buy the items from the TP? I think it was very cool of them to offer second chances with the new chests. They never said there was a 1 in 6 chance ever! They always stated it was rare too. This is a junk thread.

This is a good idea. I also like how DCUO does it, once you equip the item the style is added to your style tab and you can choose that appearance at anytime to be visible regardless of stat item. I know that something like that would make transmutation stones pointless and therefore it will never happen, but I would love an appearance slot.

I’d be nice if DEs had internal timers that automatically reset them if they’ve been stuck on too long.

They are supposed to have that. Some longer than others. I would not want an event finder it would seriously mess up the feel of the game. Part of the fun is finding events by exploring and speaking to all NPCs. I mean exploring the game world, not exploring a map or UI that shows you where to go without any context at all.

First of all great game ArenaNet! There is a few things I think this game could benefit from having.

*Preview Trading Post items and inspect/preview other players option.

*More titles for the pve side of the game.

*Make the dungeon tokens universal. Will still take the same amount of time to get enough but this way you can spread it out over all of the dungeons. Wouldn’t hurt if the token requirements for the items were adjusted down a good bit too.

*Allow us to adjust the FOV and also move the camera farther back then currently allowed.

Content-wise I really want to see player housing. With all the bells and whistles too. Add crafting recipes for house items like furniture, storage, decorations, etc….. Let us have full control of item placement and color/pattern/material selection for walls and floor/ceiling. Allow us to hang trophies on the walls for all to see. Let our mini pets roam around in it also.

*Keep up the excellent work you have done so far and know that you deserve all the praise and success you are seeing already!

Either a universal token or lower the cost of the gear significantly. 50+ times in one dungeon is way too much imo. If it was 50+ times across all 8 dungeons that would be great and it would still require a good amount of time and commitment to achieve a set of your choosing.

Personally I would much rather have a universal token and leave the time requirements/costs as they are.

I really love this game and my only real issue with it is the this one.
