iirc, Anet is saying that they aren’t going to outright listen to everything on the forum and make decisions based on it. They have the data, metrics, etc, so they can tell what’s really going on if there is an uproar.
The other thing noted is that a meta hasn’t been formed, so now you have the “it’s suitable to play in this manner, but we’ll try to make other things work as well” mentality for their balancing overall.
And I agree with Lemonseed. A lot of people are either bad or not used to PvPing in this game yet, to put it in a nicer way.
Duels would be nice. Definitely something good that’s missing. Not having them doesn’t make the game worse than it is. But having them definitely would make the game better on a casual aspect.
If you have 10+ seconds to get back to the action, what’s the problem?
I’m pretty sure you can even hit ESC to get rid of it. I’m “working” right now, so I can’t verify that, but I’m pretty sure I’ve closed it with ESC before.
Sometimes you actually have fewer seconds. That’s why. I’ve had it be around 2 seconds and was trying to click to return to waypoint as soon as I died.
And the problem is that I’d like to see the action going on around me in case other people live and are able to resurrect me. It’s an important aspect of sPvP and I really don’t feel like having the dumb recap in my face when I didn’t ask for it in the first place. Maybe an option to keep it off is better, but I feel as if you’re missing the point to helping make the gameplay cleaner while making its transitions better.
It’d be like if you were watching TV, a sitcom we’ll say, and as they go to commercials, they recap exactly what you just watched, every single time. That’s just terrible.
I’d like to be able to see everything around me in case of new developments so that I don’t just take the Waypoint back if others happen to be around me or coming by. You get points for resurrection, so most people actually try and do it when possible. I know you’re still thinking “Just manually close the window or hit escape,” but I just don’t feel it would be that way. Like answering someone when they didn’t ask a question. It should be the other way around obviously. YOU ask the question, it answers.
I find it useful to know what killed me and clicking a button to close the window is not hard whatsoever. I haven’t noticed it doing anything weird but what I would find annoying is being forced to click a button to even see it at all.
If you’re trying to get back into the action, it’s in the way if you neglect clicking it. I never said it wasn’t useful, but EVERY SINGLE TIME? Just try it. Die, then don’t close it. See what happens.
It shouldn’t do that. It should close by itself since you chose to resurrect. Sometimes it takes 10 sec+ to be able to go back to your waypoint. If it takes that long for you to understand the death breakdown, I feel sorry for you; truly.
Either buff the sharks or remove them entirely. They’re annoying during the actual underwater combat; as if underwater combat wasn’t tedious enough.
Please? I find it annoying that it pops up in my face when half of the time I don’t even care for it. It’s not a matter of it being useful or informative, just the fact that it doesn’t need to be around when it’s around.
I suggest a button of some sort to appear that says Death Breakdown for the tooltip, so that when people want to see it, they’ll click it on their own accord and aren’t forced to have it in their face every time they die. It should be off to the side or right underneath the team scores.
Another reason I propose this is due to the fact that if you have the Death Breakdown up and you go back to your team’s Waypoint, the Death breakdown stays in front and you’re unable to see your character or what’s around them. I think it happens if someone revives you as well, so now you’re back in the game and have this recap blocking your view. Sometimes the instructions come back up as well for absolutely no good reason. It’s annoying and I hope this can be fixed.
Surely you’ve noticed it by now. I feel that removing the NEED to go and click the X on the Death Recap will help make this game more enjoyable for everyone; new, core, and hardcore alike.
EDIT: Ugh… Please remove OR fix the death breakdown… Sorry, I had to post this in between playing matches.

So you basically just want to play GW1, TC?
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Black_Powder
It says right in the tooltip that it fires a shot BLINDING nearby foes. Does your tooltip not say this? And yes, it’s a very good skill.
EDIT: How it works is that you basically have an enemy who is standing IN the circle be blinded every second they stand inside. You can also use Heartseeker to stealth if you have Black Powder up.
The let's help the Thief thread ( discussion about what is wrong and what isn't about the thief)
in Thief

Shadow trap is a joke, really.
…..
now, discuss.
You can’t be serious. Shadow Trap can be used in PvP to ambush people who’re capping your points.
Stop posting. Or at least make it look neat and nice so people will actually care about anything you just said.
LOL Condition damage Thief? That doesn’t even make sense to go dual daggers. Bleeds don’t scale for anything and that’s because they stack intensely. If they scaled well then Bleeds would be OP again. If anything you should run Shortbow for Poison. That one scales a lot better, just like Burning. Enjoy your no damage Thief by running D/D for Death Blossom while stacking Condition Damage. This isn’t beta, lol.
Also you have several effective attacks per weapon combo, but you’re just being ignorant at how to use them and when to use them. You’re only thinking of “OMG DAMAGE DAMAGE DAMAGE; I NEED MORE DAMAGE” literally. That is what you said when you decided putting that down in your post.
Everything has a use, guy. Except maybe Sword/Empty skill Stab. That’s probably the worst skill this class has to offer. Everything else is all a matter on what the situation is.
My opinion OP is that you THINK about what you can do overall instead of defining the class inside your head. You have to learn before you understand. You may think you’ve learned a thing or two, but heck, we don’t even have a solid meta for many things in this game yet. And I think you wanting to be a ninja was your downfall. I really hate the fact that people classify thieves moreso as ninjas than as pirates. They let you do a little of both in this game, but come on…
Also you want a move that stealths you for more than 5 seconds? How about SHADOW REFUGE?! Are you kidding me? You missed that skill? I feel like every time I use it, I’m stealthed for eternity inside the area.
Closing, I’d like to say that anyone that thinks Pistol Whip is underpowered needs their head examined. It’s called Haste people. Use it. You can chain stun someone before they can even react if you’d just use Haste. In fact, try Haste with a LOT of skills. Or heck, just THINK about skills like this before you complain/argue that the class isn’t what you wanted it to be in terms of power.
Okay, maybe not closing, but for example, you can use Shadow Trap. Look at the tooltip. “Set a trap. You vanish in stealth and shadowstep back to the trap when it is triggered.” Sounds lame right? You can set this trap down practically anywhere and leave to the other side of an area. Once someone steps on it, you DO come back to the trap, stealthed, and ready to beat the crap out of an opponent. Like, I dunno… A NINJA. You automatically have the initiative. That’s what ninjas were all about; assassination and having the upper hand the entire time. They were never about “tons of damage” but instead simply having the edge on their opponents.
So no, OP. I won’t even tell you to stop playing. I will tell you to stop typing. But go back to your Thief and think HARDER.
Short-bow is bad and it should feel bad. All short bow does is some aoe damage.
what are you talking about, Shortbow does more dmg then unload overall, on PP u just spam unload, with Shortbow its poison cloud from which all party benefit + cluster bomb detonates multiple times on same mob
You’re considering “more damage” as the fact that it does AoE, which is what he was saying anyway. That being said, if it were to matter when it comes to focusing one person, and I mean one person (like in an instance for example; a major boss), Dual Pistols does way more damage and provides much better utility than Short Bow.
The main thing with Pistols is the auto attack doing bleeding damage while being free. Unload does more burst damage on a single target than EVERY Thief skill with the exception of Pistol Whip (SP) and Heartseeker. I say burst because it’s debatable that Death Blossom can do more, only due to bleeding if you can land it several times in succession.
Aside from that, Headshot can be used to interrupt enemies, especially when you see major attacks coming. Black Powder is amazing since it blinds. You can be up in enemies faces for the most part, especially in PvE. It’s very easy to get around harder enemies with this skill. Oddly enough, you can go to stealth through this skill, but most people are too slow to understand what the results of combo fields do yet. Just switch to Dagger main hand and use Heartseeker since the finisher “Leap” grants a boon to you; in this case, Stealth.
Shortbow’s function is to exploit enemies weaknesses in mobility, not really do so much damage. It’s safer to use in a group situation when you don’t want to be in the fray, but it will never ever do more damage than Dual Pistols when focusing a specific person. You’re capable of doing Poison, Weakness, and kiting enemies around, but that’s its function in a skirmish and it’s supposed to take much longer.
The point of the discussion wasn’t even really over damage, but use. And yes, Shortbow is much less useful, but has its strengths. It’s easily the second least useful weapon a Thief can use though, behind Sword.
Swords are very underpowered for Thief. Ironically enough, Pistol Whip (Sword/Pistol) is the strongest move the Thief can use up until a Heartseeker crit on someone below 33% Health.
If anything, Swords need a buff except for that one dual skill I just mentioned. Even then, the stun doesn’t last long enough on a target, so if you used it in PvP, you’d be missing half of the damage because they’d move away from you.
I will say Thief is very op 1v1 vs anything that isn’t a Guardian. sPvP is a whole different story because you people are mostly talking about pubs rather than tournaments, and anyone can shine in pubs.
Anyway, the problem really is Heartseeker. It’s the strongest skill at every interval of enemy heath except “above 66%”. If you pair that with the fact that it only costs 3 initiative, that makes it the cheapest and most effective way to kill enemies when using Dagger as a main hand.
On the other hand, Thieves aren’t op in the slightest against any player that has actually played Thief in a PvP situation before. You just think, “Here it comes, HS’ everywhere” and that’s your grand opportunity to counter them at any point in time. Playing the Thief in both beta and release, I’d say the biggest counters to him are Guardians in general and skills that inflict conditions.
My example in the attachment is basically describing what I mean with the color. I’m pretty sure they meant to name this one Light Pink. The color just to the left of it is labeled Light Pink. So in a way you’re right; but I don’t see why they’d randomly put Light Yellow in that spot before Yellows even appear. Here’s what I mean—
-Personality decisions can often be repeated and still give out points for answering them repeatedly. (I say this because at other given opportunities, you cannot repeat them; notably in quests) Other times you don’t seem to have a change in your personality, despite making a choice or two.
-Sometimes characters are seen using different harvesting weapons when harvesting from another player’s view.
-Character Creation colors have incorrect names. (I notified Support about this because I didn’t think these forums would be coming up anytime soon. See my attachment at the bottom. That’s definitely not Yellow)
-[Quest: Dredge Technology] You are forced to pick between the scholar and the hunter, however, you can pick one, then see what happens when you pick the other. You’ll be on track for the first person you picked, but afterward you can make the choices again, but the spoken dialogue won’t run. (Unsure if it works when you pick the hunter first, then the scholar)
-[Quest: The Dredge Hideout] Written scholar dialogue does not match spoken dialogue. (Many quests have this same problem I’m sure. Not a bug, but someone has to point it out)
Taking down things I notice as I go. More to come until they become much less noticeable.
