Kind of weird that you can only buy Superior Siege. Is this a bug that Anet doesn’t know of?

Elite Specializations & Hero Point Feedback [Merged]

Sonickeyblade.8415

I’m fine with Anet waiting before jumping to make a decision. At least they are aware people are seeing this.

That said, I’m in the group that thinks the Elite Specs and Hero Point system didn’t work. You can list a bunch of reasons why: the Unlocking method of Elite Specs was never Beta tested, Elite Specs are already unlocked in PvP but nowhere else, the current method of unlocking Elite specs is tedious and cumbersome for ONE character, let alone a group… etc. But the truth is that it didn’t work.

Mastery progression was done WONDERFULLY. Progress in PvP was done right. The HoT story was done mostly well (and what wasn’t is being fixed by Anet). Raids and making content harder was done right. All of those are great examples of horizontal progression.

But the unlocking of Hero Points and Elite specs are not. When you’re ignoring most of the story and exploration to unlock your spec SO that you can enjoy the story and exploration… I think the plan has failed. I like gliding. I love bouncing off mushrooms. Alas, I can’t enjoy any of that because I have to hunt down every Hero Point I find. And while some people are fine with the way things are… I don’t think that’s how Anet wanted us to play.

Oh and let’s not forget that some Hero Points are gated. :p Hero points were never a group thing before. They were a reward for exploration. That’s not the case now. Unless you can solo a Champion or have all of your mastery points first.

The only thing worse then the current situation with the Elite specs is the folks who don’t exactly agree that the current system is flawed and just belittle the entire conversation without seeing the other side of the argument. It’s holding back any constructive feedback that can be given.

No one wants all the content given to them to start. No one is asking for full Mastery to start. No one is asking for High PvP or WvW ranks. No one has a problem with the way Strongholds are working or that you have to work towards Raids or Guild Halls.

But the Elite Spec issue is the only one that stands out as a mistake. And if you want to know why I think this happened? It’s because this was one of the few features not tested by the community. It probably seemed good on paper and internal testing. But not everyone plays the game the same.

I don’t blame Anet for this. It’s just one of those things they probably just didn’t see coming. Alas, it is now here. And I hope we get a fix once they realize this isn’t a Weekend Launch issue or Fist Week Launch issue and just an unfortunate (and understandable) miscalculation on their end.

Ahhhhhh! Good to hear.

There is progression… and then there is gating content.

Now look at a certain group of points that require a certain # in the hundreds. They remind me of attunements in World of Warcraft.

And we don’t need that here.

I have only gotten 1 Hero point. I’ve found a few others but…

1 requires a mastery and I just got Gliding.
Another requires you to kill a champion mob. You’re not doing that solo.
I’m pretty sure I found another. But it’s so far above me, I have no idea how to get it.

So yeah. Things are looking tough right now. I’m going to wait and see if grinding WvW would get you Hero Points faster. But with all the Alts I have… I got the feeling this is going to be a long process.

It’s funny and abeit sad. But Beta is Beta, right?

Add me to your list. You aren’t that alone. I didn’t play in BWE2 but in BWE1 it was hell. I enjoyed it this time around. But I am not surprised that people are upset.

A lot of the vocal group of GW2 wants the challenge that was in BWE1 and BWE2. But I don’t think Anet only gets their feedback from the vocal group. I can’t help but wonder if the true majority of players are happy with BWE3’s difficulty or BWE1 and BWE2’s difficulty.

Why keep the pet mechanic with Druid?

in Ranger

Posted by: Sonickeyblade.8415

Sonickeyblade.8415

There is never going to be a spec without pets. They are 100% ingrained into everything the Ranger does. Weapon skills. Utilities. Traits.

Healing the party means healing your pet as well. They go hand in hand, its not counterintuitive at all.

This is correct. It would require A TON of work to make it so Rangers could go without their pets. So much that it would pretty much be another Profession.

I’ve never been a fan of the trinity and it’s what drew me to GW2. Now I won’t say the sky is falling yet, but I am VERY worried that we’ll devolve into Tank/DPS/Heal specs.

I mean if that system is confined to just Raids, then so be it. I won’t raid. But I got the feeling this will trickle down to all aspects of play.

So right now, not a fan. But we’ll see. Maybe they’ll find a way to make healing big but so that healing comes as you naturally DPS? Something like that. Or make it so all professions can heal.

Because I couldn’t get the healing skill for Shiro’s legend to work well and I was going to replace it with the Human Racial because at least I understand that. Also, Mistfire Wolves on Revenant? It wrote itself.

But I guess that’s just our loss. We’re REALLY forced to swap Legends and stuff. And unless I missed something in BWE we’ll only have access to 2 heals ever at any time? :/

I won’t lie. Not a fan. But I don’t think any amount of complaints can change this.

I just play for fun. :p Even if my sets are scrubbish.

Came to voice my opinion on the sale.

The first 10 days were good. But after that, it just dropped off. I was hoping the sale would end with a bang but it fizzled out much more worse then I imagined.

This was the first time in recent memory I was considering buying gems in bulk for a sale. I won’t plan for that in the future.

As with a lot of things with this game, I love it and sometimes what we get is great. And then there are other times where you just scratch your head and wonder what in Tyria went wrong?

Oh well. Now I can use the Gem Store normally again and spend what little Gems I have left without worrying about missing out.

I also won’t expect another “sale” until HoT is released.

I greatly appreciate that Anet tried this out, realized that it wasn’t up to snuff and then admitted.

Best to try and fail, then to never try at all. And admitting it is also amazing. It’s what I love to see in a company.

It’s also why I keep coming back to this game. Communication like this is what gives me faith…

Now only if Rangers could get this kind of feedback/support when it comes to their class. Then NO ONE could say any other MMO company communicates with their players/base more. In my book Anet is already # 2 as is. Only beaten by Blizzard and barely above the folks who run League of Legends. (Though LoL isn’t really an MMO, I know.)

This is a sad state of affairs.

I remember the Pet Name bug being an issue back when the game first released. I just figured they COULDN’T fix it. Not wouldn’t.

As Ranger is my favorite class/profession, I am disappointed that it’s doing so badly. No communication, not acknowledgement of the problem(s), no attempts to finish it…

It’s like a wildfire that has been burning for 3 years. How is that even possible? And I feel bad. I thought Anet had good communication with its players as I’ve only been back to the game for 2 months after a year+ hiatus. That is not the case however.

Our only hope is that Druid comes with an overhaul for the entire profession… but I don’t see that as likely… and I don’t think anyone does.

I’d also personally like a sale on the Monk Outfit or some of the Gem Store Armors like the Aetherblade or the Viper Armor, but I don’t see that happening either.

The original Sound Bug: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Annoying-Sound-Bug/

How does it trigger? Well during huge battles in WvW or Edge of the Mists, the sound will simply cut out or turn into a small hum. There is no way to fix this issue until you exit the program and then restart it.

Is there a fix or maybe patch coming for this soon?

Only happens (for me) in Edge of the Mists and the only way to fix it is to close the game and restart it. It’s pretty annoying.

If there is anything we can do on our end to fix it, please let us know.

EDIT: Oh and sometimes when this happens, I have to use Task Manager to close out the game. If I go to switch characters, the game freezes at the character select screen with a black screen and the UI.

They still have a cough Reputation cough to keep up. They won’t make money if they lose too much credibility.

But with all things in life, the devil is in the details. And that comes Saturday.

Ohh Saturday. This will be the most important Saturday in GW2 history. And I hope it goes well. I already pre-ordered the expansion and just bought gems for the sale. I thought GW2 was doing well.

As someone who just came back to the game and bought HoT… these two announcements worry me.

Raids make games super competitive and Raiders have a stigma of being negative towards casual players, which I am one of.

The Core Game being free… well that might mess with the economy, WvW and EotM (the latter where I spend most of my time) and invite even more gold bots and spammers.

I’ll wait before jumping the gun. Because Anet has to have obviously seen these issues coming and taken precautions against them.

There are plenty of things for which we can critique ANet; there’s no need to invent issues out of tin foil.

Every year, even in GW1, there have been anniversary sales, regardless of whether there is new content or not. In 2015, you might have noticed that ANet has put most new content on hold for HoT.

In other words, there’s nothing surprising or unusual about the anniversary sale. If it’s not your cup of tea, don’t buy anything. I’m holding out for discounts and/or new shinies.

But since it’s already out, I don’t think it would work. Because it seems as if they wouldn’t mind cheating. Since they already have a policy of banning you and stuff.

Again, a lot of other companies are doing this and it is a fine option… but not for a game already released. It would be too much backpeadaling. (sp)

And since I missed a ton of items and previous sales… I am one of those people. Bring on the sales!

P.S: I’ll admit, I’m perplexed that it’s being done on a daily thing. I thought everything would show up at once, but this is my first year live… so yeah. Well, I’ve been logging in daily for the daily log in events anyway. So as long as I don’t miss a single day…

I was in the Beta Weekend Event and when I made a Guardian to test out Dragonhunter, it was just available. But might have just been for testing purposes.

I’ve seen people say that there might be a quest to do to unlock it. But once that quest is done once, Elite Specs will unlock account wide.

As an Altoholic, I hope they aren’t too hard/cumbersome to unlock. So do we know how yet? Or this this a “To Be Continued!” moment?

If i recall correctly, they are similar to how you get the traits while leveling, the only difference is that they are available as soon as you hit 80 and have HoT.

Oh that would be wonderful.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Sonickeyblade.8415

I too think it seems small. But this is to test the mechanics used in the leveling experience while keeping the story secret. Which is a big deal if you’ve been a part of another MMO’s Beta Test… that spoils everything.

If the mechanics work in this sample area, they’ll work everywhere else. That’s the plant Anet is running with.

So I’d say focus on the mechanics of leveling, mastery and professions. Not so much how MUCH of it there is to test. Try breaking the mechanics used and then report that. We’ll be blind in terms of map exploration and stuff until the official release.

Which is surprisingly is still this year. I’d bet deep November or December on that.

BWE1 Q & A Feedback Thread

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Sonickeyblade.8415

Sonickeyblade.8415

I want to help as much as I can, so using the First BWE article posted by Colin; I am going to try to answer the questions that the Devs want answered directly. Here’s hoping I do this right and that it inspires others to do the same.

Q: (Paraphrased) How fun is it to play as our new profession as well as the elite specializations?

A: I only played (and plan on playing) Revenant and Dragonhunter for this BWE. On a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being “A blast!”, 5 being “Average” and 10 being “So not touching this profession/spec ever again” DH gets a 7.5 out of 10. Revenant gets a 6.5 out of 10. I’ll be looking forward to Ranger, Engineer, Thief and Warrior.

Q: Do the elite specializations feel like they are creating an entirely new role for your main profession?

A: From the one I played, yes. Dragonhunter is much different from Base Guardian. It’s a literal flip. DH is Offense 1st, Utility/support 2nd. Base Guardian is Defense/Utility/Support 1st and Offense 2nd.

Q: Do you feel the need to use your entire skill bar in battles?
A: YES.

Q: Does teaming up with other players feel more rewarding?
A: Ahahahaha… YES. Good luck by yourself on anything. RIP if you do.

Q: Do you find yourself wanting to change your skills and traits to overcome encounters?

A: I do. Though I think I am just bad, so I dunno if it will help. Also, changing my Utility Skills while as a Revenant… yeah. Let’s just say I hope Revenant can use the Racial Heal and any other Racial Elite/Utility skills.

Q: Does night feel different from the daytime?
A: Yes. Night Time means run from the boogey trees. Day Time = Safety.

Q: Does it change the way you play while night is active?
A: Yes. I stick with people during the night. You can’t explore at night. You just stay alive.

Q: Is the nighttime meta-event experience that we’ve shown so far engaging and fun?
A: Engaging? Yes. Fun? That is to be determined. It might be fun for the first month. But once people stop coming to certain zones… well you are dead on arrival.

Q: Does the Mastery system feel like a system that works to provide meaningful progression?
A: Yes. But I haven’t been able to put it to use yet. Haven’t leveled. Too busy getting bopped.

Q: Does it make you care about experience and Mastery points?
A: If that is asking “does experience matter after level 80” then the answer is “Yes”.

Q: Does it provide a framework that you think we could regularly add to in live updates?
A: Absolutely.

Q: Does it improve the experience of gathering materials if you’re working on building items that require specific crafting materials that previously had no clear place to earn them?

A: This is really hard to say. But as a casual, this is because so many items are already out of reach… that Map Completion seems like a dream. That said, it is NICE to know what you’ll get from Map Completion. And I’ve notice I’m saying Map Completion in place of “Map Reward System”. If they aren’t the same… then that wasn’t clear to me.

Q: Does it feel like it will help keep the core world we’ve built today still a place you’ll want to return to and play in, and do you feel rewarded for doing so?

A: I hate to say this… but I don’t think so. As an “Altoholic” I will always go back to the older zones just for the heck of it. But considering what I see from the more “Core” players… I don’t feel too far out there saying that it won’t be enough. Coincidentally, I think earning Mastery Points will do a better job of keeping Central Tyria relevant then the Map Rewards system. I wish I had a suggestion to help with that. But outside of new events in Central Tyria, that are based off of HoT content… I have no idea.

Q: (Paraphrasing) Any feedback on changes to Stronghold PvP and the Revenant profession since the last Beta? (For the sake of this thread, a quick summary will suffice. Go to the designated forums for details!)

A: Note that this is my first Beta Event. I haven’t gotten to Stronghold PvP as I play mostly WvW and EotM. As for Revenant… it feels MUCH more different than I I was expecting. That’s not inherently bad though. What confuses me more then anything is “choice” with Revenant. If you are DPS, why use anything outside of Shiro’s Legend? You kind of don’t. Also, I’d love a new ranged weapon. Hammer as a ranged weapon… kinda sucks. Sorry. Maybe Racial Skills will fill this void though? We’ll see.

I hope that this helps anyone, whether it be in the community or the development team themselves. Even though we paid to be in the Beta Event, I am honestly honored to be involved and to have an effect on how HoT turns out.

Now tell me what is Thief’s Elite Profession weapon.

Remember they have removed the story element to give you the sense of discovery later, it obviously lost a lot of the meaningfulness when they did that.

I think this bears repeating. I found all of Verdant Brink to be boring until I reached Frog City. Because that is its own self contained story, I had a BALL doing it. So I guess we’ll just have to to wait.

We’re here to test out the mechanics more then anything. Does doing the missions feel fun? Because the rest of the zone will probably be as hectic and full of stuff to do. Things like “is there something going on when you get there” opposed to the base world where everything is on a clock and during downtime, nothing is happening. Stuff like that. BWE1 isn’t for judging how the story feels as they want to keep everything secret.

I am forced to use dragon hunter because as soon as I don’t wanna use dragon hunter It uequips my longbow… Seriously if I don’t wanna use dragonhunter and use longbow don’t force that onto me personally I hate dragonhunter specialization and the new virtues and traps I only wanted to use longbow. Please fix this I hope this wasn’t your intent!

A lot of people had this worry and I got the feeling this is how things are going to come to live. If you want to use the new weapon for your class, you HAVE to use the new Elite Trait. It would be nice that once you completed the Elite Trait line, you can use the weapon without equipping the Elite Trait tree but that probably won’t happen.

I got the feeling that for some other classes, equipping the Longbow will change the Profession F1 skills. (I’m thinking of Druids and how they might not have Pets like Rangers.) That’s why I think the new professions and weapons are tethered together.

Well I wonder how people will react now that some of us have had a chance to play the class. That said, I’d like to thank Mike for his pre-beta feedback? I mean to say thanks of course. But not sure if he played the class before us or something. Either way, I’ll be responding to his words as if he played the Beta today and then typed this. Now…

Name – I like the name as is. But if it was changed, I wouldn’t lose no sleep over it. Considering these are Guardians now taking the fight to Dragons, Dragonhunter does fit… but a LOT of people want a name change. If I had to pick my battles… this is one I’d give up right away.

Profession changes – I am surprised they would receive such nerfs. I don’t think they are so necessary, but that would require more testing.

Longbow 1 – This is the change that gets me the most. But I’ll start off with saying making the auto attack 1/2 is a good idea. 3/4 is too slow. But it sounds as if in combination with the suggested change to Spear of Justice, that Longbow 1 would ONLY attack enemies afflicted by Spear of Justice. Only then will it hit another enemy. That makes changing targets on the fly really hard. That worries me the most.

True Shot & Deflecting Shot – The changes to True Shot I like (with it being called Dragon Shot and actually doing damage). But I would apply those to Deflecting shot. Deflecting Shot feels more like a chore then a worthwhile attack. True Shot as is, isn’t too bad when compared to in game Deflecting Shot. Deflecting Shot is the really bad DH move. But… if I am reading this right, making True Shot (Dragon Shot) the 4th skill and Deflecting shot the 2nd skill would be okay. TS would be a longer cooldown powerful shot and Dshot would be the 2nd attack for damage. I could live with those changes.

Symbol of Energy (suggested Pin Down replacement) – Symbol of Energy is meh and needs fixing. But replacing it with Pin Down isn’t necessary if SoE is fixed. And I think it can be.

Losing Traps – As a Ranger main… DH would be lucky to lose ‘em. Traps BLOW. They are bad with Rangers and DH have inherited the bad. So changing them to something else is fine by me. I wouldn’t argue the “they are Ranger feeling” factor but having used them in game… they are subpar to any other Guardian skills. Oh and Dragon’s Maw is super bad. So yeah. Though I doubt in all honesty that Anet would just drop Traps for DH like that. But Traps need to be THROWABLE. That would help DH and Rangers. Except Dragon’s Maw. Still super bad.

Extra: I can’t clam to have ever played the old DragonHunter class from GW1. But I get the feeling that DH are to be offensive Guardians while their defense/utility becomes secondary. This is the opposite of current Guardians. I wouldn’t change that. Let DH stay offensive. And I like the DH class that is in the Beta. I don’t know if I would argue major changes to it. Sure the Longbow needs tweaking. But that’s it. I would argue to ditch traps but that is because traps are broken from another class and I wouldn’t want to bring that to DH. And even if Traps stay subpar, DH doesn’t suffer from bad utility skills like Revenant might as the old Guardian skills are still for use in combination with the Longbow.

Now I think I rambled on enough. Just trying to give Anet some feedback. Pick their brains and what not. And whether anyone agrees with me or Mike or anyone else, please respect that we took the time to try and better this class. Please & thank you.

Here is my feelings on the Dragonhunter. Oh and some info on the player (me): I play the game casually, I do a lot of WvW and EotM and I am “bad” at it. I don’t go for top DPS specs and I play whatever looks cool. That should give a dev some perspective when looking at my info.

Now for my actual feedback:

Overall, I like it. A B or B- at worst. As soon as I heard “Longbow on Guardians” I was all in. Glad it works all in all. This appealed to me especially as a Ranger main.

- Auto Attack seems to miss when moving around. And I use Longbow and Shortbow on my Ranger, Longbow on my Warrior and Shortbow on my thief and I never had this issue before. So I think it’s accuracy is bugged. Or something.
- Dragonhunters acquired Traps from Rangers. “Lol”. They also inherited all of the bad issues with traps IMO. So I won’t be using any traps personally. I’ll stick with my All Signet setup. But unlike Ranger traps they seem stronger. Except Dragon’s Maw. I don’t see many people using that as is.
- Deflecting Shot reminds me of the Greatsword 3 for Warriors by the whole “arrow reticule” that pops up. But it doesn’t work nearly as good as it does for Warriors w/ Greatsword.
- Hunter’s Ward shouldn’t have a 45 sec cooldown. Maybe 30 but 45 feels too long.

I have to admit...

LOL. That little mushroom bugger? I am lucky I read the “Explodes upon Death” tag on it’s name. It wiped out most of our group doing the Frog City events.

Which might I add were the most fun in the Beta I’ve had so far. The pact stuff felt so meh because we can’t get deep into the story, but doing the Frog stuff felt very, very fulfilling.

Oh and I just thought of something. If we hide our gloves, why not hide the glow? Another possible fix.

Hmm. I wouldn’t mind an option to turn off the glow or at least dim it. Maybe an electric effect? I say that as in the latter might not be as intrusive to character style? I think so at least.

Again, if I say nothing now, it’ll be too late later. Not the best solution but it’s something.

Mobs difficulty feedback [merged]

I want to say the same thing as Topic Poster.

Then I remembered that people wanted harder difficulty.

Well, wish granted. I personally can’t say I’m the biggest fan of this, but people have wanted more of a challenge.

But now we find out just how many will. Is it the Vocal Minority who wants tougher enemies or is it the actual majority? We will find out soon enough. I have no problem being called a dirty casual as it took me at least 30 min to get into Verdant Brink. But at least I was able to do it. It’s not impossible.

Oh and for more details since this is a Beta and Feedback was needed:

- Was using a Ranger (my main class and then again using a Revenant. Both classes had a hard time.)
- I lol’d because at least it wasn’t just me getting bopped. Rox and every other NPC got busted up too.
- [SPOILER] took a while to show up and make things manageable but once they did, the fight went easily.
- Assuming that everyone knows to stay out of red circles, there were sure a lot of them and mobs spawned alot.

Now I am not saying it needs to be easier, but if difficulty was the desired outcome, congrats. It was reached. Now let’s see if people are really happy about it and if it sticks.
