It’s the reverse of what we have in game. “Nature” in the form of living, breathing, beings trying to kill society.

There’s alot of problems using this argument, especially in relation to the world of Tyria.
Nothing is stopping heroes from slaughtering countless critters for some greens or blues after all. No discrimination there. Adding to that, NPCs still poach, hunt and do plenty of the same crimes as they would say on Earth. The only difference is, they aren’t the dominant force in the world as humans are on Earth.

The roles actually aren’t all that reversed actually, just the fact that Nature actually has a powerful force behind it, albiet killable. The dragons don’t have any morals. Just like tornadoes or earthquakes. Hence why they are considered forces of nature. Is a tornado evil? Are there those who wish to destroy all tornadoes for the havoc and destruction they place upon the world?

You’re still comparing tornadoes to something like a crocodile running around in your house that just ate your dog and is trying to eat you. Do you still not see the difference?

A couple notes on Dragonhunter. We went with this name because we felt it was evocative of the medieval witch hunters. Guardians consider themselves protectors of the innocent. Followers of their faith be it in honor, valor, etc. The origin of the dragonhunter is a more subtle nuanced version of this. Guardians fight for justice and the dragonhunter faction believes justice is the eradication of dragons and their minions. I understand this is a lot more high concept than Mesmer but at the end of the day we felt like we wanted to try and push a more mature theme here. I hope this helps explain our thinking. We had other generic names in mind but felt like it was important to have a mix of spec names that are generic fantasy, more Tyrian fantasy, and more high concept. This one falls more in the third category.

If the dragons are supposed to essentially be forces of nature, I don’t see how one can take a moral stance against them and enact justice. It’s like taking a righteous stand against all sea water because of flooding and tsunamis.

Nor is it a moral concept. I get the DH concept they’re trying to sell. It wasn’t what I was hoping for but it sorta works. And really I care more about functionality than names; I can always invent my own concept.

My main wish was for a ranged option that doesn’t suck and it looks like that’s happening; very cool. Traps though… what’s next, elementalists with venoms and warriors with minions?

Not if in exchange things like damage and cooldown time are buffed.

Did you watch the Ready Up at all? All traps have a half-second arm time, including the Guardians. It makes the traps more like traps and less like grenades and spells which is what they want.

What childish Mindset are you talking about? If you are using other games as a comparision those with dragon in their class names are related in some way to dragons. We know its a unified force of multi talented people fighting the dragons, and their spawn. But there is no clear rivalry that designates a guardian with longbow as the clear hunter of dragons that is better at it than the over classes.

It actually Cheapens the value to say this Guardian is specializing as a Dragon Hunter, when you have a clear Chronomancer, Druid, and Tempest. Now you’ve probably never studied language or history to my extent, but you shouldn’t need to in order to see that calling this Dragonhunter sounds like a 2nd rate pedestrian in comparison.

I’ll say it again because I’m sure people are just going to skim through it…A holy warrior SPECIALIZING in hunting the Dragons and their minions. The other classes don’t have SPECIALIZATIONS named things like that because the other classes aren’t SPECIALIZING in hunting and killing the Dragons and their minions from a lore standpoint. The “Holy Warriors” e.g. Guardians are. There’s a difference between fighting and killing something out of necessity, and actively wanting to. .

So where is my 10% damage buff when fighting dragons?
Where in our skills or traits do we get an advantage over every other profession in fighting dragons?
That is the ONLY way the name “Dragon Hunter” will work, if we are going to specialise in hunting down and killing these dragons then lore wise and gameplay wise we need a distinct advantage over every other profession.

Try reading my post again then get back to me. I’ve already answered everything you’ve just typed out there. Thanks for showing you’re either trying to selectively use things to further your own opinion/agenda or you don’t care enough to read somebody’s entire post. If it’s the latter then you’ve completely discredited yourself and I’ll refrain from even acknowledging yours in the future.

I wasn’t targeting you specifically as other people have voiced similar complaints about it for no other reason than the name. The name is fitting. Whether or not people sit down and actually want to think about it or accept it is another issue. And it’s not “cheapening” it at all. Chronomancers and Druids don’t become Chronomancers and Druids to actively hunt and kill the corruption and taint. They do it to manipulate time and to attune to nature.

You’re mixing up lore and gameplay. Gameplay wise, yes every class is able to fight just as effectively because if they couldn’t then there wouldn’t really be a game now would there be? Lore wise, it’s the Dragon Hunters who have taken it upon themselves, whether right or wrong reasons, to cleanse the land of the corruption and taint as they feel it’s their duty. People are mixing the two together and they need to stop.

From what I’m gathering people would rather it be called Witch Hunter than Dragon Hunter because the term “Witch” is inherently associated with being evil and that goes against the thematic elements of the Guardian blah blah blah. Now having said that, WHERE ARE THE kitten WITCHES IN THE GUILD WARS UNIVERSE? I don’t know about any of you but I’ve yet to encounter any.

The majority of you people just dislike the name for the simple fact that it has “Dragon” in it and you automatically associate that with a childish mindset. In the GW2 universe the evil and corrupt are the DRAGONS and the DRAGONS MINIONS so why is it so unbearably hard to comprehend the fact that a sect of righteous, holy warriors have chosen to hunt down and exterminate the corruption and evil that’s spreading?

Now you may say “WAHHH BUT EVERYBODY HUNTS AND EXTERMINATES THEM!” and you’d be wrong. During this time there IS a unified effort to combat and stop the Elder Dragons, yes, however that is NOT the main goal of the other classes. Engineers didn’t suddenly wake up one morning and go “Hey, you know what? I think I’m going to become technologically proficient so that years from now I’m going to possess all the relevant skills I need to fight something that myself, nor others actually know is coming or even believes to be real for that matter!”

My bad, that was a mix up with what they said about Necromancer Wells and Guardian Consecrations losing their ground-targeting traits and becoming baseline. No actual confirmation from Anet whether this will apply to Ranger Traps, but it is a strong possibility it will be rolled in as well.

Yes they did confirm it during the livestream. The traps ground targeting will be baseline just like Necro’s wells.

But there already are several totally viable builds I’ve thought of after the changes are made. One of them uses 50% projectile denial. Passively.
Front line Ranger will be useful, and I’m definitely looking forward to it.

You die in the front line from hammer, marks/wells, and meteor shower aoe. Wall of reflection is already a vastly superior projectile deterrent.

Reflecting projectiles while meleeing isn’t really going to do much at all.

Everyone dies front line from hammer, marks/wells and meteor shower aoe… That’s a strange excuse. Moreover, Wall of Reflection is superior, but not more valuable.

Strider’s defense is permanent and walks with you. And did I mention it’s permanent? So what if it’s only 50% chance, it’s permanent, Jesus…

Don’t be too skeptic about stuff. You don’t need Precision anymore. Who can boast of such a privilege except for … eles … that have everything better already?

You can sacrifice 1 whole stat for defensive ones to deal damage almost identical to Zerks. I mean, come on! With 30% passive evade, even a situational stun and huge mobility since GS.
Also the best and longest stability in the game, so far.

I guess I can see Strider’s Defense working on the less populated servers but personally I don’t see it being of any value towards myself or any other Rangers who are a part of the big T1 server fights. I rarely ever have to swap out of my Longbow and when I do it’s usually because we got in over our heads and I need to run away.

The way I see it, is that when this new trait system hits, the Ranger will be taking the spots comparable to a Necro with the new Longbow Trait. Unless you’re on the front lines I can’t see Strider’s Defense working out well in those zergs. Even at that point, from my personal experience and what I’ve seen, you’re going to die to the melee ball and wells long before any projectiles chip you down.

Again, that’s just my experience from the big fights. I can see it’s potential in smaller scale skirmishes with about 15v15 and down though. I think it’s going to be one of those YMMV traits.

The teasing is getting a little annoying.

It’s definitely not the Ranger, so I’m really hoping for the Thief. The idea of playing an ambushing sniper that lays traps around for people that get close is just beautiful.

If you think traps are useless on Ranger you’ve been doing it very, very wrong.

Sigh, have fun in blobs wars then. It’s built-in laggy already, few know what hits what, who hits whom, everyone spams the keyboard like monkeys dropping AoE and DPS all around, and low FPS on even decent hardwares. EotM FTW.

There is seriously no room to improve in Guild Wars 2’s World vs. World. GG, I guess.

Sounds to me like you either don’t have a computer that pleases you performance wise in zergs or that you don’t feel as though you’re contributing when you’re in them. If you don’t want to play in a zerg then don’t. Small roaming groups/havoc teams are still needed and sound better suited to your taste if you want to feel as though you’re contributing more to the fight.

Unless the underlying issue you have is that you can’t hold a tower/keep with 1-2 other people against 20 enemies in which case I have no sympathy for you. There are other viable options than to zerg if you don’t like it.

I’m more concerned on the amount of up lvls there…

This was in the first month of the game so no surprise the majority of the people playing were up levels (including myself) and had about zero WvW experience at the time.

EDIT To add to that, I looked at the date I took the screenshot and it was August 27, 2012, so technically still during early access lol.

I can’t see player collision detection ever being added to that extent because the server capabilities can barely handle the 5 player AOE limit. Also, player collision is already there, just not extremely pronounced. You ever tried running “through” a downed enemy? You just walk into their face unless you dodge roll through them.

I’ve done WvW completion 3 separate times, it’s really not bad at all. No, you can’t do all 4 maps in one day like you can do in PvE but so what? People need to move away from this instant gratification stuff. It took me 2 weeks to get the last 2 points I needed on my most recent character because it was Overlook in EB controlled by SoS the first week and then JQ this past week. Guess what? Tonight the colors changed and I spent more time waiting in the queue than I did getting the last 2 points. Patience.

I must be the only warrior in history that just cannot use this spec. I’ve tried and tried and tried and I’m absolutely terrible with hambow. I can’t kill anybody, I have no sustain/survivability, I just die. As much as I’d like to try a “cheese” build as people put it and go “easy mode” I’ve never had such difficulty with a build before lol.

Uhhh no. The problem was that they allowed transfers before the season started when servers were already locked in their leagues. That threw everything askew and unbalanced a lot of the matchups. You’re going to have to either transfer servers or wait until after Season 2 is done for servers to readjust in their new tiers.

2 drops in 255 levels. One settlers weapon box, one celestial armor box. Got them both within 12 hours of one another, within 5 levels.

I looked at the calculations from crit damage to ferocity and in order to achieve the same damage on my LB I had to swap out my Knights armor with Melandru runes to Zerk armor with Hoelbrak runes. I’m back up to the damage I was at before but instead of almost 2800 armor I have 2200…

Most fun open world PvP I have ever had is in GW2 and still going strong almost 3 years later. Could it be better absolutely, but for a game with no monthly fee they push out a massive amount of content on a regular basis. Sure it is mostly PvE and WvW surface changes but it isn’t like they haven’t tried larger changes (ruins, EotM, Wxp, etc).

The thing to remember here is that the game is three years old… few games hold players attention beyond 100 hours. Even fewer beyond a thousand.

GW2 WvW interest continues because they quite frankly have no viable competition. The latest PvP title making headlines? Titanfall with it’s 6v6 format.

You can’t find 80v80v80 in a well executed and immersive environment anywhere.
Because of that, ANet is resting on it’s laurels with small fixes and updates that most people did not desire.

A few big changes to this game mode will inject more life and interest into GW2 than a hundred Scarlet episodes or even new PvE zones (though those would be great too).

1. Get rid of Bloodlust. Make all stomps worth a point, make every individual contribution count.

2. Have ruins offer unique buffs with limited uses. Example: Capture Temple of Lost Prayers, up to 5 players can get +15% swiftness buff for 10 minutes; recharges in 5 min cooldown, even on recapture.

3. Guild Commander Tag. Been asked for repeatedly. Make it yellow and only visible to the guild.

4. Borderland map redesign. EBG has a natural flow to it. It works great for the 3-way combat. The Borderland map does not have an organic flow and has way too much empty space.
If the resources are not there for a full redesign, I suggest two lesser changes. Make the Skritt and Centaur camps worth something. Example: Capturing the Skritt puts up a blockade that prevents access to the North camp (at the north camp switchback).
Second change, get rid of garrison water gate. The garrison should be the most easily defended structure after the North camp. Four gates plus wall on the North side are more than enough access points.

I don’t know what server you’re on but here in T1 Bloodlust adds strategic value and all servers are vying for control of it. It’s not uncommon for 5-10 man and a lot of times even larger havoc groups to be battling it out for control of ruins while the main zerg takes objectives. We also have enough dedicated people and our militia generally is smart enough to stomp people, even in the middle of zergs when we have it.

I seems like I’ll be switching to cavalier armor instead of knights. The loss of crit chance should hurt to much with deathly perception.

I run full ascended Cav trinkets and you’re still going to be feeling the dps loss. Knight armor with Cav trinkets just isn’t doing the same damage it was before mainly because the crit damage nerf was as big as it was and we relied on Deathly Perception for any substantial damage. I’ve been thinking more and more about just runninig full zerk glass cannon power build for roaming around now.

You wouldn’t have noticed anywhere near as much of a drop if you weren’t running all your crit damage on trinkets. Those were the primary targets of this change.

Well I was because it was best at the time. Now I can’t swap my armor out without spending at least 80-90 gold because you can’t salvage and recover runes/sigils from items you bought in WvW with badges.

I got hit about as hard as you possibly could from an itemization/traiting standpoint, and I’m feeling good about my WvW experience so far. I’m just surprised to hear other people say they’re dropping Power because of the huge loss they experienced.

I’m by no means dropping power. Swapping sigils around so I have air and fire on my dagger/wh is definitely helping out, but its still a significant dps drop. Roaming since the patch has not shown me anything other than perplex dire thieves and engis. All I’m noticing right now is that my damage isn’t high enough to put enough pressure on classes like I was able to before the patch before they wear me down or are able to just flat out run away from me.

Stats weren’t changed for PvP though. Crit damage in PvP is the same as it was prior to the patch. It only changed it for PvE/WvW. Either he didn’t set his traits back up or he’s using the wrong items.

All my issues are in WvW not PvP. I’m doing the same amount of damage I was before, if not slightly better with the new runes and being able to stack Air/Fire sigils. I’m still seeing 4k off LB + Fire + Air proccing for ~ 6k total in PvP matches against squishies.

Running a powermancer in WvW so I’m keeping my melandru runes. Sigils however I have Bloodlust + Fire on my Staff and Fire + Air on my Dagger/WH. Combining Fire/Air is allowing me to regain some of the heavy damage I lost with this Ferocity change but it doesn’t cover it completely.

30/10/x/x/30 with Zerk weapons, Knight armor, Cav trinkets. Most of my damage came from crit damage so I’m going to have to play around and see if I’m going to change anything. Losing 1k-2k+ damage per lifeblast is hurting…

So yeah as another necro that loved to run in a Deathshroud build…This change hurts. A lot. Where my life blast would hit between 3.5-4.5k per on full zerk targets, I’m lucky if I see a 3.5k crit on the high end. 2600-2700 damage per life blast is about average vs them now and nowhere near being able to keep up enough pressure on them.

Mysticque and I have been running for hours upon hours daily in WvW. It’s not that we don’t appreciate a good challenge, it’s that it just gets tiring trying to take an objective from JQ and wiping them and watching the TC zerg come in and defend JQ’s points for them until they regroup and vice versa. The fights themselves are good yes, and many are enjoyable, it just takes a toll on us and it gets annoying spending hours in a single fight making no headway because each server is defending the other’s objectives without even wanting to capture it for themselves. Map politics is one thing, this is on an entirely new level.

Sounds kind of like what JQ has had to do for nearly a year now to stop BGs blobs when we have next to nobody on. Sucks, don’kitten

All I’m sayin is some of us are running on fumes from all the time we’re putting in trying to fight for what’s ours and people need to realize that there’s going to be posts detailing our frustration at times like this. It’s inevitable. The reaction from people responding in here seems to be extreme just because a post is made by somebody on Blackgate. Just because we play on BG doesn’t mean we’re the Devil in disguise or robots. We get burned out too and need to vent at times.

the decisions we’ve been making and actions, or lack there of, are inexcusable..
I truely hope we do well this season and I plan to come back next week to see how things have progressed. But with what has been happening this week I won’t be participating until next week.

Good luck and I hope the wise ones make calls where it counts.

And your decision to post this on the forums is a wise one?
If you have a problem with how the server operates you talk to the people in our server.
As it stands, we receive no sympathy from anyone but our own server mates.
Stop wallowing on forums and talk to ppl in our server, or better yet just fight your heart out like the rest of us are doing.

I think you missed his point. Why would he fight when he’s against what you’re doing right now in WvW?

Again with the assumptions; you assume they don’t want to do anything about it? You assume they don’t want to spend the time and effort putting things together?You assume they don’t want to better themselves as a community? Do you realize that ANet has not given them any way to make these changes? And your answer to this is for them to leave and join another server thus destroying the small community they do have?

I would suggest the “vocal minority” are in fact the well balanced populated servers that have very little to worry about.

lol…oh man…..What’s a “blob” on a low tier, low population server? 20 people? Also, what the kitten does Anet have to do, come knock on your door, ask you out to coffee and then sit down and tell you exactly what you need to do to build community? There are no “tools” needed to build community. It’s called not being a pompous kitten and working with other people on your server. Coordinating with them, inviting new people join and play with you, and stepping up to the plate when the time comes. You’re so blinded by being spoonfed and having your hand held with every little thing that you can’t even coordinate and play nice with others, no wonder you can’t build a community with those social skills. This thread is laughable. Seriously this time, I’m done. I’m going to go enjoy my well populated server, with a strong community with a shared focus and goals. Enjoy kittening just to kitten.
