I’ve been waiting since two weeks after launch (have not played GW2 during that time) for them to fix this. I guess it is time to accept that rangers are stuck with the pet, without the option to fight alone and without having to babysit an AI. I miss the awesome class from first Guild Wars, where I could bring my pet when I see fit.

If they gave us the ability to “turn off” the pet that doesn’t mean you have to use that functionality. That means if you like you pet you can still use it as it is now and for those that dont like to have there pets around all the time they have an option too. Everyone would be happy.

If warrior damage is 100, what is ranger damage compared to that?
1. Ranger hits every attack, pet hits every fourth/fifth attack = ? damage
2. Ranger hits every attack, pet hits every second attack = ? damage
3. Ranger hits every attack, pet hits every attack = ? damageI would think that ranger total damage was calculated from the beginning to be ranger+pet hit all of their attacks, just like any other class.
That is the way they are doing the math, problem is pet hits less then 25% of the time and is normally dead (in WvW at least) through 3/4 of the battle on a 60 second timer is it? Leaving us with 30% less damage for a full minute during a battle. Not only that but we don’t even hit all the time with ranged weapons because of the constant sidestepping to evade our arrows and if they are standing on a pebble we get a obstruction message or out of range message even if they are not obstructed or out of range. I love it when I can’t hit someone below me from the fort wall with a bow and arrow because they are out of range but if I could spit, I’d nail them in the forehead! They need to give ranger’s 100% of the damage control, pet’s do not work, they stated this already, and they also stated that they do not plan on fixing it any time soon. We’ve waited a year already, it’s time for us to receive our full damage and screw the pet!
This is why the ranger should be more like in first GW. I havn’t played GW2 for a year now and yes maybe the biggest reason is that no one of my friends play any more but one of the reasons is that I was so dissapointed by my favorit GW profession, the ranger.
It is so obvious. The ranger is dependant of a stupid AI creature, and yes this has been taken up before. But I realy can not figure out why Anet are so perverse about this, almost childish. It is as simple as 1+1. I hear ranger is not welcome in some parties because it so bad. Rangers damage is dependant on a usualy dead AI. Humans will always be better at situation awarenes than an AI! The answer should be simple. Make pet optional with beastmaster like in GW. That way you can skip pet in sertain situations, like WvW.
So pitty that a game I waited for five years was such a huge dissapointment only because this small thing.
Anet stop being so perverse and see the truth, the ranger need some care!!
The magical flie. The one that no one can hit and who cant be noticed and only gives you damage boost to compensate. The F2 ability should be blind target.
And by the kittening way. Look a all the “what do you wish they did with the ranger” posts. Half is about idiot pets. kitten .
Make pet optional like in GUILD WARS.
I waited since I first heard about gw2 in 2008 or 2009. Played ranger in the first one. Loved it, could bring my pet when I felt I needed him or leave him home when I didnt want him. Now i’m kittening forced to have a stupid AI that is half my kittening characters damage. Unbalanced like hell. Totaly kittening ruined the game for me. I wish I could have my money back. I was stupid enough to preorder this game as soon as I could but should have kittening waited. Now I know what to do next time.
Thank you.
Sigh, so many wise words yet nothing is done about it. If they did listen every ranger (almost) would be happy because their would be an option suitable for both “sides” (pet or no pet). A thief is not a ranger, a warrior is not a ranger…
This discussion is the reason I only played for two weeks, weird but true.
Maybe one day the ranger could be more like in first gw, but I dont think so.
“… A lot of people don’t like pets, a lot of people do like pets, and Anet balances the profession around permanently having an active pet….
Thats why we need an option. That way everyone is happy.
And no not reroll as warrior because he/she is not a ranger.
To be dependent on a stupid AI with avarage lifetime of 3 seconds (I exaggerate a bit here, yes) is unappealing sometimes.
The ranger class in Guild Wars was perfect. You could take your pet with you or leave him.
I like this idea! Totaly support this. This would solve alot. Those who want ranger with pet can have pet, those who don’t want the ranger with pet can play with this and those who just like both can alternate. A diplomatic solution.
I was doing CoF recently, explorer mode for the first time. I don’t know what path or anythin because those I was playing with seemed to be in a hurry.
First I will tell you, I don’t consider me an inexperienced player (exept in that dungeon maybe), I didn’t “whent down”, I evaded attacks and did my part ressing the ones that got downed. As we got further we came to a place where we was supose to get bombs. I wasn’t sure what to do coz they just kept going. We failed first time (with one bomb left) and tried again. Then one said we should run to a bomb location and he activate the task. Well he didn’t activate it until I had like 20% hp left and I died with the bomb close to the azura I was supose to give it to. I made a choise to wait, I figured I didn’t have time to run back anyway because there was a timer.
Then one of them starts to call me names and kitten and then I got kicked!
Because a mistake that was just as much their fault.
I wanted to report the one that called me names and being realy rude but couldn’t see his name because I couldn’t see the chat from the dungeon.
This is what makes my experience worse and worse with GW2, players behaving poorly against other players.
The buff is not a bad idea. The ranger in GW could live without pet some times so why couldn’t ranger in GW2. If they did add this, this would not hurt ppl who alway want pets so it would benefit both sides. They could shose not to stow.
I miss them too! There are too few skills that effects your bow. Well there are spirits but they die before they are summoned in dungeons. No offense ANet you are realy great at making games but I think the ranger in gw1 was much funnier to play with. You ad more choises with ranger in gw1. You could use preparations (yaay) and deside if you wanted to take your pet with you (oops sry, off topic).
Agree on bosses atleast.
Ramp up difficulty on bosses, that must be a joke. The bosses I’ve met already is hard enough. This game should be for everyone not just hardcore gamers. This is entertainment not serious business. Or make a hard difficulty.
The only problem I have with some bosses is that they take to long to kill so either increase the reward for spending that time to kill it or give them slightly less hp (not less deadly). Though one-shot-kill abilities is a bit excessive. I think you should have more than one chance if you (after 10 minutes of spamming the same boss) fail to dodge, especially if you guys want to take away respawn!
Why allways black or white.
It would be nice if we could stow pet untill we activate it again and gate a small bonus in other stats.
Another thing is that eg marksmanship has a alpha training and that kind of thing fitts beastmastery bransh.
You played ranger in gw1. You want to be a character that is a neutral and a nature person, AND you do not want to be a criminal. Ranger has all skills you like and everything exept you don’t want a pet with his own will running around and die. If they would do something so you don’t have to play with pet why would that bother you, you can still use it if you want.

Especially in dungeons I think stow pet should be permanent until you activate it again AND give your self a small bouns in stats. It could be like you get some of your pets senses or something.
In GW1 you had a choise if you wanted to have your pet or not.
Atlest have pitty on the melee classes:-) I’m not one of them but I feel sorry for them.
+1 1-6.
I don’t realy have to explain my self the OP says it all.
I totaly agree here. Hackers shouldn’t just be able to request a new email where you get a email to your original account that says “Someone -hopefully you!- has requested to change the email address associated with your Guild Wars account.” Well it wasn’t me so don’t change the email! Please, the OP is right.

I see that pretty much everything I was going to say has been said…
Security is realy top priority in this kind of game.
What if I’m an officer in my guild with privileges to withdraw gold and items from my guild bank with 100 slots. What if we have 200 gold and alot of expensive items and some #ยค&/(# hacker/cracker hack my account and steal all my stuf AND my guilds We are just going to live with that, hundred of hours in vein. This is realy important, to make people’s gaming experience as satisfying as possible. If this was happening to me I’l quit GW and would never play another mmo again.
I could have learn playing piano for those 100 of hours, none can steal that from me.
Please don’t say “Go play it then…” because that was not the point:P
