The Mystic Forge and Soulbound Items

I apologize if this is a basic question but:

If an item is soulbound (in this case I have the “Lidless Eye” scepter equiped on my Elementalist) and if I were to then use said scepter to combine with other materials to make the “Eye of Rodgort” – would the Eye of Rodgort already be soulbound or would I be able to equip it on a different character or even sell it? (will most likely give to guardian character but curious either way) I don’t use the MF often .. besides making Mystic Salvage kits so was unsure…

Thanks

as to how you should use it – its really more of a guide letting you know the type of weapons each class can use and a “general” idea of the traits the weapons possess.

an example might be..if you have sword in MH (main hand) then the first 3 skills of warrior (in this case) would be offensive abilities for the sword with skills 4/5 left open. Then when you equip shield in OH (off hand) it will fill in skills 4/5 and they will be defensive.

As to whether or not you would use them together is a question of preference, play style, and build (I personally use Great sword for weapon 1 and axe/sheild for weapon 2.)

I used it mainly to decide which class I wanted to play based on which weapons they had available to them.. and depending on what kind of role I would like to play (offense) (defense) (support) I knew which weapons would work “best” (best being a matter of opinion)

In the end which ever profession you pick by lvl 80 I would almost carry each weapon that class could use..

(hopefully I didn’t just confuse you more lol) <edit>

this is a “weapon set themes by class” that kind of helped me in the beginning-

I got a lvl 80 Warrior / Guardian / Elemental

They all are pretty fun and each are very different to play with. I would suggest asking yourself (in no particular order)

1. do you prefer ranged fighting or close melee (most classes do both pretty well) but if you want ranged for example a guardian may not be the class for you.

2. Within a group do you like to be the “spear” or the “shield” – spear being the warrior and guardian being the shield (again with specs you could make a guardian a “spear” but their traits and abilities lean “more” toward a “shield”

Best advice is probably to make a character and then go to PVP.. even if you aren’t much of a PVP’r because it will automatically let you play at lvl 80 and you can try out all the various abilities and traits … hope that helps a little and good luck

“The thing is, most players clamoring for harder content don’t actually want the harder challenge. All they really want are exclusive rewards. If presented with more challenging content they will take every step possible to make the content as easy as possible to obtain said rewards. Thus in essence they nullify the added challenge that they originally piped for.”

(playful sarcasm) For you to suggest that a human being would exploit a situation to make it less work and more reward is….. is… well a great insight into human nature frankly… but seriously

as my OP stated.. I’m all for them fine tuning the dungeons as they currently stand first and for most… but being a hypothetical person… I like to ask myself what ifs… what if there was a 4th phase to Lupi…what if those people that can solo dungeons were to form a so called “super” group… What dungeon would challenge them I wonder… But what fractals has shown is that people are willing to try harder events for greater reward.. why not spice up the dungeons as well for those who wish it

either way I am looking forward to future updates in all aspects of the game

Advice for new dungeoneers (explorable)

as someone who primarily runs with PUGs I would suggest the following:

1.) if you don’t know a dungeon speak up – most groups will have people that know the dungeon very well and don’t mind explaining as it will make it go faster more times than not.
2.)Have both ranged and melee weapons available (also don’t be scared to change skills in quickbar throughout a dungeon run)
3.)When in doubt hang at back of group as to not add unwanted mobs (there are typically two(2) types of players in dungeons… “lets run” or “lets fight”)
4.)As stated above – READ party chat
5.)With PUGs or even experienced groups – Some Dungeons can take hour(s) so prepare accordingly..
6.)when doing ARAH u should really have rares or better equiped (if you can) which shouldn’t be a problem if you try other dungeons before going for the big dog…

sure there are other things I’ve missed.. but this has worked well for me up to this point.

If this topic has been touched on before please disregard.. also if you dislike the idea of using other MMOs as models to inspire new content please disregard…

This idea actually comes from another MMO I’ve played (namely TSW) and I think it could work well with GW2 <maybe they had something similar in GW – not sure never played it> But the idea would be to leave most dungeons as they are – relatively speaking… and add a new Tier to all existing dungeons called “nightmare (dungeon)” or whatever u wish to call it..

Now as it stands you can do AC explore at lvl 35+ or so and CoF explore at lvl 75+ but with NM (nightmare) AC and NM CoF they would specifically be for Lvl 80s and by extension be more difficult with an increase in rare/exotic drops.

Now along with the idea of NM dungeons – TSW also added the “Gate Keeper” that acted as a 1v1 test to unlock Nightmare Dungeons and would adjust its attacks/tactics based on the role you played – tank, healer, dps (would be changed to profession in this case maybe) so if you skills weren’t up to snuff you were forced to evaluate your build and gear and really learn ur skills before making another attempt on the Gate Keper…

I’d also like to add that I would prefer anet to improve and balance the current dungeons as they have been – but in the future and if time and development allows.. just a thought :-3

New Player needing advice (Guardian/Ranger)

in Players Helping Players

Star Reaver.8415

I know very little on the Ranger but I’ve rolled lvl 80 Guardian for a while now.. I primarily act as a “dps/healer” using a “Shout” build to buff myself and my team. As far as low HP I’ve had it anywhere from 14,000 to over 20,000 so gear (obviously) plays a large roll in that as well. But for dungeons and end-game type stuff I like a lot of the heavy armors and its fun to run with Greatsword/Staff and/or Mace-Shield/Scepter-torch

Where can i farm charged cores?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Star Reaver.8415

Star Reaver.8415

I believe charged materials are found in the Crucible of Eternity dungeon on explorable mode (from chests). Someone might confirm that or have another idea.. but that is where I would start… I’ve gotten 3 charged cores from running it maybe 6 times and i’m not sure how much they drop.. but 3 for 6 runs seems decent <relatively speaking maybe>

Star Reaver.8415

Thanks for your responses … hadn’t considered changing servers as I’ve always just stayed on the one I picked at the beginning and never looked back – but depending on how the rest of the week goes… I’m on US server Blackgate btw…now say that it wins this week and it looks like it will… would it then move to Tier 1 of WvW and be a different color then green next week? Guess I really just need to figure out how the WvW reset works and when Servers change opponents – again thanks for your responses

100% Exploration Question

Star Reaver.8415

I am currently at 98% and my remaining points are all in WvW – Some of which I’ve gotten. My question is what is the best way to go about getting the remaining ones..

more specifically:

After WvW resets does your server always take up the same spot on the map in WvW or does it change?

Do I just keep running with groups and hope we take down an area I need? (and Yes I do help my server when I’m looking for these points on WvW even though its not of particular interest to me )

I’m sure there are other things I could ask- but basically besides having your server take over MOST of a map.. is there any advice besides taking off all armor and running through these areas avoiding enemies??

thanks

Didn’t know if this was better to post here or in WvW Thread…
