Warrior was my first character, and was the only 80 I had for a while. Then I got an Ele and realized how much easier it is to get loot bags in WvW. Yeah gonna stick with Ele.
Just wanted to go ahead and give this a quick bump.
Quit three weeks after release, and literally just came back here two weeks ago.
But this time I’m pumped and semi-hooked. I transferred to a T1 server, I’m playing “Catch up” in regards to gearing + economically + crafting, I got an elementalist to 80 (something I wanted to do a long time ago) and I’m pumped for WvW.
If it wasn’t for the economy of the game though, I’d probably not be playing it right now to be honest.
Apologies in advance for the sloppy write up and over-simplifying things. Just drawing out some of my thoughts, questions, and potential theories. Also before I begin, know that I played during the first three weeks of GW2’s release, quit, and then came back about 1-2 weeks ago.
I remember back during the first few weeks of GW2. I got to 80 on my Warrior in a week and then did what everyone else seemed to be doing at the time for gold, farming events and specific npcs / bosses in Frostgorge Sound and Cursed Shore. Now of course, a lot of these events were bugged at the time, and some produced an overwhelmingly large amount of drops (and monster spawns) compared to the way it is now. I remember I was eventually in full Magic Find gear and had Omnom berry bars.
Again the main difference between now and then in relations to the drop system is that the number of rare + exotic drops per hour had decreased A CRAP LOAD (I know Magic Find system changed too, but I have birthday boost + account MF + omnom berry bars at the moment, bringing me up into the 230% at the moment).
I used to get 4+ exotics in a given hour. Now I’m lucky if I get 2 exotics all day long, doesn’t matter what I’m doing; dungeons, fractals, or EOTM.
Am I the only one who has noticed this change? What’s the thought process behind this?
Next, I’d like to talk about precursors. I’m particularly curious about EXACTLY how the dropping of it works. I understand that ANY npc in the entire game that has loot can drop it. That is, it doesn’t matter if you’re in Queensdale or Cursed Shore, any npc in there can drop these bad boys at any given time. With that said, how does the actual looting process work? Is it that, whenever you get a rare OR exotic drop, it “rolls its magic dice” and you have a CHANCE at a precursor?
I could be making assumptions or am overly simplifying things, but is this the way things work or no?

Yes doing daily dungeons is good money, so is doing fractals and attending daily World Boss events, hell even chilling out at Cursed Shore and following the zerg is profitable.
If you’re a fairly fresh 80, I strongly suggest following EOTM zergs. You’ll get lots of karma, skill points, WvW levels, essences of luck (salvage material), and of course gold and loot. What ever class you are, try to set up your skills and weaponry so that you’re able to have speed boosts, mobility enhancement, and lots of AoE.
Ended up getting the salvage-o-matic and 1 bag space, still got around 150 gems left.

Games have their own hooks.
“Hardcore” Games like Runescape, Darkfall, and Dark Age of Camelot have a “risk” factor AND Open World. If you die in these games (PvP OR PvE) you lose your items and others can claim them.
Games like World of Warcraft and Wild Star have Open World Faction-Based PvP with no risk factor.
Then you got games like Elder Scrolls Online and Guild Wars 2, PvP based solely in specific PvP zones, with NO risk factor. However, there’s a stronger focus on things like cosmetics, easy + quick interface, etc.
Just depends on what you prefer.
Ha I’m stingy as crap, don’t think I’d let that happen unless there was a deal involved.

get keys
buy bag spaces / bank space
Just meaning I needed a specific number of gems for what I wanted, and they only sold it in increments of 1200 at the store.

So unfortunately I missed out on the unlimited gathering tools sale. Went to Gamestop to buy some Gem cards and was forced into buying 1200 more than I needed, any suggestions regarding what to get?
If it looks too good to be true, it probably is! Taking a look at the TP, the Box is (or was) selling for about 10 Gold each. Each individual piece of the set (six pieces total) is about 3.5 Gold each, thus resulting in ~19.5 gold for an entire set. Trust me, everyone and their parents would be taking advantage of this already and buying every box they can find, and then sell the individual pieces to make a profit of 100% (doubling their money). And with everyone buying the boxes and attempting to sell the pieces on the TP, price changes would occur. Either the price of the box would start skyrocketing, or the prices of each Individual Piece would start plummeting (probably both would occur). Since nothing of the sort happened, one can gather that this is incredibly fishy and would probably cause someone to resort to Google for more information on the situation (there have been tons of threads about this already).
I really do feel sorry for each and every one of you who bought this box and opened it up, but let this be a lesson! I personally nearly bought the box a while back but noticed the odd prices, looked it up, found out it’s bugged, and went ahead and saved an extra 10 Gold to afford the set. I don’t regret this decision, as I’m rocking full Berserker’s Draconic armor with 6x Superior Runes of the Scholar, 2x Berserker’s Exotic Axes, and 1x Berserker’s Pearl Blunderbuss.
I was farming Penitent Waypoint’s Defending Dynamic Event last night for a couple of hours. I didn’t actually time it, but it seemed like it took about seven minutes for it to start up after completing it. I decided to go ahead and do it today, and there were now twenty minute intervals between each Event. Twenty minutes! Literally one third of the profit per hour.
Maybe it was just bugged, or a fluke thing on my server, can anyone confirm?
Level 80 with 26 Gold at the moment, just got done buying two Exotic Axes, both being ~5 Gold each. I just keep farming, I actually enjoy it. If I was a Chinese Gold Farmer, I think I’d be in heaven. Find yellow items and salvage them with a Mystic Salvage Kit and sell the globs, sometimes getting zero Globs per salvage, sometimes getting as many as three Globs, you never know what’ll happen!
I was farming this particular event for about three hours today, making an estimate of 50 silver per event, and from just one event I made 1.3 gold. And just to clarify, I wasn’t wearing any Magic Find gear, though I did eat an Omnomberry Tart.
Farm gold as efficiently as possible, and trying to keep my self from spending it all. Eventually I’ll (hopefully) find myself satisfied with the amount of gold I possess and start doing various things like WvW and finish up on the Personal Story.
I don’t think it’s too expensive, at least not at level 80. In fact, I find that the price is very much close to perfect, if not a little too cheap. I personally spend a lot of time farming and have found several good farming / gold earning locations, I’m currently sitting at around 25 gold, so these 5-10 silver trips mean rather little to me. You all just need to take better management of your gold, and make wiser decisions.
