Rifle Warrior changes? Moved, or removed?

Crack Shot (The Rifle trait) is now in the first tier of Discipline.

That’s where the piercing ability is now? Okay, thanks — I must have missed it while looking around the reorganized stuff; I’ll check it later tonight when I can get back on.

I can still have fun with losing the precision (I’m only down to about 2/3 of the shots being criticals), but not having the reasonable ability to engage multiple enemies at range with the rifle was really crippling the fun I had been having out of my playstyle.

Rifle Warrior changes? Moved, or removed?

So, I never played GW2 to have the best build, or the more efficient, or the build-of-the-week — I just played builds I thought were fun to play, even if they were suboptimal.

Prior to today’s changes, my main was an 80 warrior rifleman, and I had a lot of fun with him. The two main foci of his build for me were the abilities, traits and such that boosted his precision to the point that I was running about 70% critical chance (and it increased as my adrenaline increased to about 100% during combat). More importantly, I also had the trait that allowed my rife shots to pierce and thus damage multiple targets in a line.

So, am I correct looking through the new changes in that not only have those two abilities not just been reduced or changed, but actually removed altogether? Or have they just been moved somewhere else in the new system and I just haven’t found them yet?

I just got back into the game a few months ago after a hiatus of almost a year, and would hate to have to hang it up again just because my (admittedly specialized) build line got entirely removed. :/

Missing equipment/gear/weapons on characters?

So, I logged in today, and it would appear that two of my characters seem to be missing the equipped gear, weapons and armor they had previously (i.e., they were naked in the game when I logged in).

Any suggestions? I didn’t seem to see a ‘submit ticket’ option in-game, and the ‘report a bug’ options didn’t seem to be applicable to this specific situation.

I suppose I might have been hacked, but I’d find it odd that of all my characters, the only thing they would have done is merely delete the gear two of them were wearing. I did have to reset my password this morning, but that’s not unusual — it had been a couple weeks since the last time i had logged in (which in turn was following a long hiatus of its own) and i seem to recall having to change it that last time (which I promptly forgot by this time, of course).

Regardless, thanks in advance,
Steve

Differentiate 'invulnerable' NPCs by color?

in Suggestions

Perhaps you could set up something so that when an NPC is invulnerable — for example, where it’s busy doing some unexpected cinematics or still moving to the point where he needs to get to before starting combat — the name is shown in a different color than plain old red? I can’t begin to count the number of times I or other folks have started throwing out abilities (sometimes the big ones) on hostile NPCs only to find out they are ‘invulnerable’ due to storyline reasons.

A good example of this would be in the Norn starting area, where the Svanir are attacking the bear shrine. You get slews of Svanirs marching right up into the fray, but despite looking exactly like all the other combat-ready Svanir, they are all invulnerable up to the point where they reach some magic spot and then begin attacking.

I understand the need to have them invulnerable while getting them from point A to point B, but if it’s a non-game mechanic reason they are invulnerable, having their name be a different color than red — maybe purple or orange or something — would help when trying to prioritize targets and such during heavy melees.

"light offhand" weapon skills

in Thief

SteveMND.1754

Okay, so, I’m trying to play at least one of each class in the game, so I have a good understanding of how they all work, but I’m a bit confused on the thief and his “light” weapons skills (i.e., the third skill slot ability you get when you have nothing equipped in your off hand).

The thief is the only profession that has these, but I quite honestly am at a loss as to why they are even in the game. They are interesting — the dagger offhand is a quite nice AoE bleed — but i can’t even begin to think that they might be considered to be a viable option to having a second weapon of some sort equipped. Yet there they are.

So, what am I missing here? It’s such a singularly odd mechanic that I can’t help but assume that there’s just plain something I’m missing here. i even went through to see if there was some sort of clever trait combo that might make them worthwhile, but if so, I’m still missing it.

Thanks in advance,
Steve M

A small bit of criticism. Really just a bit.

The other thing bothering me is this grind for items

Hardly a grind, IMHO. Presents and such can drop from random mobs all across the game world, and Giant Presents are also scattered about quite commonly. And the event is running for what, three weeks? You’ll have more than enough time to get some of the holiday skins just from normal play.

GW2 loot system , Do you players like it ? yes/no give reasons for both

For those of us that never played GW1, could someone explain a bit more about what that was, and how it’s different than how GW2 does it? I haven’t done a lot of dungeons, but I don’t mind the current GW2 system, actually. I’m pretty flexible in my preferences, as long as it’s not one of those miserable systems where everybody fights and works and wins, and then at the end there’s a chance for one random item to drop that one random person out of the whole group gets…

How do you control your character?

Like some of the others on this thread, I use a combination of mouse and keyboard for my movement. Unlike others, tho, my years of MMO gaming has lead to an unusual arrangement that I play with, which is first and foremost to remap all keys as needed to my numerical keypad (which is then tilted at an angle so I can comfortably reach the keys with the left hand). It’s an odd arrangement, I’ll admit, but it’s one I’ve found works well for me.

And yes, getting the hand of good circle strafing is important. I was about to describe how I do it, much like the previous poster had. Unfortunately, when I started explicitly thinking about what buttons I press when and what mouse movements, etc, I realized I’m not sure how I do it, honestly. It’s just gotten so second-nature i just do it reflexively, I guess. ;-D

How GW2 IS becoming a "Grind" -MY thoughts.

So I started in the {played 3 betas before} “head start” – this was 3 days before the actual release- and needless to say I enjoyed myself (I hit 80 in 3 days).

While I don’t like to dismiss anyone out of hand, I do have a hard time taking the complaints of someone who raced to max level in three days as a valid point of view to then complain about that character’s personal finances or the game’s supposed ‘lack of balance.’

GW2 — heck, any MMO, I’d wager — is not designed nor intended to accomodate people who get to max level in three days. Heck, probably not even three weeks, or — dare I say it — even three months. The designers expect you to explore, do other stuff, try side missions, quest outside your beeline through the region, experiment with other characters, etc. — not just race directly towards the end goal. Most of that other stuff is in there explicitly to provide additional money, gear, karma, experience, etc., etc. that you will need as you make your way towards max level.

It’s like complaining about how your car ran out of gas on a cross-country road trip when you deliberately avoided refilling the tank along the way.

Weapon sets. Do they really give you a choice?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I haven’t found any weapon sets yet that are ‘ineffective.’ Some are less than optimal in certain situations, obviously — for example, when you’re doing solo-pve, there’s little point to to a group buff buildout. My engineer is mostly his pistol and shield and speargun when underwater. But depending on whether I’m soloing or grouping, fighting something by itself or a group of enemies, running PvE or running a dungeon, I find myself swapping out to my flamethrower, bomb kit, healing gun, etc. as the need arises. A friend of mine is working on an engineer, and he’s working on a dual pistol high-mobility build.

It’s all what your playstyle is, I think. It just so happens that there area lot of lazy gamers out there, and they’ll tend to gravitate towards whatever build they see as the most reward for the least work. As such, it may appear that there are only a few viable builds in any game, but I think it’s really just what builds are best suited for minimum effort that tends to tint the build landscape.

Puzzle Griefing in WvWvW ruins the Game experience.

It seems they don’t care about winning or losing and the rewards is minor but I just find it plain ridicules that so many players will just sit in the puzzle areas and just camp farm.

What is the point of this? Why is it necessary? I understand maybe an hour, possibly 2 hours; but when the same 10-15+ people or possible some 2-4 players leave and the same amount replaces them, guarding the puzzle area; I just do not understand what is such a bang out of this.

I still find it refreshing (if a bit depressing at the same time) to find players who still haven’t latched onto the fact that there is a sizable percentage of MMO gamers that, quite simply, just like to be a jerk about these sorts of things. Revel in your comparative naiveté, sir. All too soon it will get beaten out of you (as it may in fact be in the process of currently) and you will end up a cyynical and bitter old man like myself. ;-D

These types of players aren’t looking for opponents, they’re just looking for targets. They don’t want a challenge, they want a kill. They don’t want to achieve something, they want to prevent YOU from achieving something.

It’s how they get their jollies. They are cursed with the same mindset that, were they on any other MMO, would be going around the lowbie areas with their max-level toons one-shotting level 10s from the opposing faction just for the sheer thrill of it. Or, in the real world, making fun of others and beating up people that weren’t like them or their little ‘clique.’

If anything, be thankful that the structure of GW2 restricts their penile activities to small and relatively obscure areas of the game.

I don’t understand why you’d want to do a puzzle game anyway. It’s just a pointless, sometimes frustrating jumping puzzle, which leads to barely any reward or satisfaction, and some virtual number to add to your pointless achievements number.

Forgive me if i’m wrong and there’s some fantastic reason I should be doing these frustrating puzzles! If so, enlighten me! Thanks.

Well, clearly it’s not something you appreciate or get any satisfaction out of (which is fine, that’s why Anet tried to put lots of different activities in the game), but a lot of people like doing stuff like that purely for the personal satisfaction of completing something challenging.
