Boonway: alternative Guardian build

Thanks for the tips guys. I’ve finally hit 80 on my guardian and I’ve definitely found the right balance I think between knight/cleric/magi armor with a celestial trinket to balance things out.

Ok so I’ll sell the giver’s set I just crafted then. It does give a buttload of toughness though. That said, I do like the sound of Cleric’s armor but between that and PVT it kinda comes down to which stat is more valuable. Vitality from PVT or healing power from Cleric’s?

Question: Would grabbing 6 piece’s of giver’s armor (Toughness, Boon duration) be a good alternative to PVT? I figure I can make up for the vitality discrepancies in my trinkets but is an extra 6% boon duration (and a buncha toughness) worth shooting for?

I don't believe confusion needs any changes

I think there’s too much class/profession bias in this debate.

As someone with a few classes maxed/ascended out for wvw including a thief and mesmer I can objectively say that confusion was never an issue for me. I rarely was able to down any competent player and I can only probably count the number of times I’ve been downed by confusion myself on one hand. Once you learn how to deal with it, it’s rarely an issue after that.

In many ways it’s exactly like a glass cannon backstab build (which I’m still surprised people whine about). Both of these gimmicky builds can be countered with experience and skill. Of course the way balance is dictated lately it would seem that these two qualities are something Anet wishes to discourage in favor of objectively unnecessary accessibility.

I just finished this fractal at level 46. I’m only level 34. 2 of our players had to swap out for thief alts to double up on shadow refuge at the control panel, 1 doesn’t quite make it. 2 more dead and naked on buttons. We finished but boy it kinda makes me scratch my head as to why we need to swap out characters for 1 specific part of a dungeon.

level design team needs a magnifying glass on this one.

I don’t understand the appeal of transferring to BG. So you can end up losing to JQ again? all roads lead to death by JQ, so you might as well have fun away from that fate in T2.

This is funny.

Full disclosure: I am a JQ player.

If you had a time machine and went back to november and showed everyone on these forums this thread, but hid the server names, everyone who read it would guess those folks whining about JQ were talking about SoS.

If you went back to September, they’d think those folks whining about JQ were whining about HoD.

The only time T1 was ever a close to even match was back in the BG, JQ, SBI days just after HoD imploded and just before SoS got to T1. I remember thinking “Hey, this SoS team looks like the might give us a run for our money. This should shake things up!”

And ever since, we’ve had one server dominating the other 2. I have long come to accept that. When SoS was on top, I used to say score doesn’t matter. Population wins matches. I’m just here for good fights.

Now that JQ is winning, I say score doesn’t matter. Population wins matches, and I’m just here for good fights.

And you can still find good fights, even during the chaotic end of week blowouts like this one. If you can’t find a good fight, you aren’t trying.

I mean, I just read that wall o text complaint above and can honestly say that anyone who is that upset over it maybe shouldn’t be playing video games, period. I’m serious. That’s a pretty disturbed post right there. It’s not that big of a deal.

I rarely run with more than 5 people when I’m on. I get to fight smaller groups from other servers all the time. I just say away from blue pins and large groups. It’s easy.

Having survived 8 weeks without a chance in hell of winning, I can empathise with folks who get a little discouraged, but the outright rage and self inflicted torture on here are what’s making T1 less fun.

Just like I said back when SoS was king… not for long. Something always comes along and changes WvW. JQ will not win every match. You’ll see. People thought HoD would still be dominating right now back in Sept. No one listened to me when I said SoS would be out of first by February back when I posted it in November. Well, hear me now:

JQ will not be in first place in T1 come April. And the server that hangs around and keeps nutting up and getting stronger will reap the rewards.

What did we used to say back in the day, my fellow JQers? “We’ll be here long after they’re gone.” And we are. If you, as a server, ever want to take first, you have to start believing the same thing.

That was before free transfers were closed. As it stands, the end of that era has sealed in a vastly superior population to JQ. My bet is that this imbalance is more indefinite than something as soon as April.

Will we ever get real difficulty?

Beating that encounter without a guardian, thief, or mesmer feels truly rewarding.

Dynamic Player Cap per Map/Balancing WvW

People are already waiting in queues already so I don’t think much would change for higher population servers. Over time the ranking system ought to pair servers with comparable wvw-interested populations. If people have such an issue with queues there’s always the option of switching to lower pop servers to keep things balanced.

What if WvW maps put a dynamic cap on the allowed number of players on a map per server based on the server with the least number of people on the map? Hear me out…

When I join a SPvP match I’m automatically slotted into a team with less people to keep things even. When I join a team in most other online games, I’m likewise assigned to a team to keep the numbers balanced. I know WvW isn’t spvp and I know it isn’t like other games but while the general population disparity between servers can indeed be dramatic, what’s preventing a system like the overflow/queue from dynamically adjusting player caps in just WvW maps?

By simply capping the allowed number of players on any team to the server with the lowest representation you can avoid issues of nightcapping, coverage imbalances, and useless outmanned “buffs.” You can sleep easy knowing that whenever you log on you can expect to face a similar amount of enemies and that your comrades later on can expect the same. Not only will this ensure that matches are won more through strategy and skill but minimize the complete blowouts that are commonplace throughout many tiers. Such blowouts are often more attributed to population gaps than skill gaps so this solution should curtail this issue significantly.

In my opinion if ever there were a means to bring people back into the fray we all love then a balancing system like this could do it. But what do I know, it’s probably impossible due to technological limitations or something

Dear Anet,

Tomorrow is a day of utmost importance. No, not because it’s Inauguration Day. No, not because it’s the day before Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Nope.

Tomorrow is important because it’s my birthday! Hurray!

Now I’ve been a good boy this year; I’ve been reporting bots, reporting gold-sellers, refraining from economic exploits, and even regularly buying gems! (Hurray!)

Now despite my intention to spend the better part of tomorrow utterly inebriated and aloof, I so too would enjoy something to commemorate the occasion in Tyria as well. Might you perhaps entertain the possibility of mailing me some cake? Or a tray of omnomberry bars to share with my guild? Maybe even a gift wrapped precursor if you’re so inclined (It’s ok, I’m not too greedy).

tl;dr It would surely be neat to utilize the date of birth information I think I provided when registering to send me (or any other souls fortunate enough to be born) something nice! ;P

Just a thought, kthxbai!

The quivers and books fit perfectly and generally look attached where they should be. If they fixed a few torso seams and readjusted the position of one-handed weapons so they don’t clip into some leggings than this could be a viable fix. Pretty please?
