Zerker Build for PvE and Dungeons

in Warrior

Sugoi Travis.2651

Your standard 100% dps spec will be 30/25/0/0/15. In Strength, replace traits X and XII with IX and XI. I don’t know if you made a mistake with choosing Berserker’s Might (XII) over Berserker’s Power (XI), but trait XI is incredible to have. In Arms, take traits V and X. For Discipline, IMO, it’s sort of a toss-up depending on your utilities and what you need. I tend to use trait III whenever I skip mobs in dungeons and switch to IV before attacking so I can get my adrenaline up faster.

For weapons, you’re going to go axe/mace and greatsword. Since you already can comfortably play in full zerker, go with scholar runes to boost your dps even higher. Sigils would include force, night and bloodlust. Get 25 stacks of bloodlust and immediately swap that weapon out for an equivalent that has force or night on it. Using the night sigil will obviously depend on what instance you’d be running but couple it with an instance-specific sigil and you’ll feel like a one-man wrecking ball.

In regards to trinkets, from what I remember, I saw a small but noticeable damage increase when going from full exotic to full ascended. It’s not going to kill you to not have ascended trinkets but if you want to squeeze out as much damage as possible, you’d probably want to get them.

I might have missed a thing or two but aside from that, you’re good to go.

The funny thing is, if the post before swifty’s was said by me or any other “elitist” to a bad player, the “elitist” would be slammed with an infraction. But bads can call us every name under the sun and get away with it since we don’t even report them.

Wait…..you’re saying I’m a bad player because I am willing to accept skilled non-zerker/non-dps builds on a dungeon run?

Please…it’s not like I’d take a PVT guy with condition damage traits. No matter how skilled you can be, that is an example of something that will never work.

If you are skilled, I will take you regardless. I will never take bad dps build players over good players with sub-par builds.

Except that there is no such a thing as being skilled with bad builds and bad gear. Don’t take me wrong, I’m not saying “all zerkers are good”, as could be seen in the day of CoF farming there are ton of terrible zerkers who have a broken dodge key. What I’m saying is that not wearing zerker is an automatic mark of being bad. You can’t be a good player and willfully ignore decent build, ignore the game mechanics and decide that bad builds are good enough for you.

No, why would you think that?

(Seriously…this is a game. A freaking game. Let people play the way they want and if they don’t like zerker for whatever reason, why call them out and claim they’re automatically bad? Lol…)

On-topic – I don’t know what world you come from, but I don’t believe in the idea that if you’re not wearing zerker, then you’re automatically bad. That reeks of zerker elitism right there and shows an awfully warped mindset, no offense. I don’t think I clarified myself enough with my previous post, so I’ll make it crystal clear for you.

I welcome good zerkers into my party. I also welcome good non-zerkers into my party. I do not discriminate on the basis of the kind of armor a player is wearing. However, I will not party with a person who decides to haphazardly throw trait points around and not attempt to synergize their traits with their equipment. I also will not party with a person who does not take the time to learn boss mechanics. Where are you getting these ideas from anyways?

Lastly, I absolutely refuse to party with zerker elitists. I don’t want to hear “omg this run is taking 2 minutes longer than it should QQQQQQQQ” or “i finished this boss with a full zerker party faster than this POS party.” Believe me; those are some examples of responses I’ve seen and these idiots were kicked immediately and are on my block list. Judging a player purely by his/her armor is a childish thing to do.

(Seriously…this is a game. A freaking game. Let people play the way they want and if they don’t like zerker for whatever reason, why call them out and claim they’re automatically bad? Lol…)

Yikes some people are quick to be sharp-tongued, but anyways…

Unlike other people, I actually do not care what kind of builds people run. You’re a healing specced guardian? Good for you. Do you know how to play it right and are able to utilize it skillfully?

If you answered yes to my second question, then I will take you as well as any other player on a dungeon run, hands down. Like I said, I don’t give a crap about what kinds of weapons or builds people use. If you are skilled, I will take you regardless. I will never take bad dps build players over good players with sub-par builds.

The only encounters where luck plays a factor is Kieldra and Liadri. The tornadoes are completely random (afaik) and you just have to hope that they don’t come storming down your way while you burst (key word is burst) down Kieldra asap. Liadri is just ridiculously difficult and you’re going to have to eat dirt a lot before you get the hang of it.

While I can relate somewhat, you can still dodge between the tornadoes and stability negates them entirely.
Liadri is difficult but by no means random. In fact everything is fixed – The AoE’s are the same every time, so are the pools on the ground (with the exception of the 6 arenas not being entirely even). The pulls can seem a bit random, but you can nearly always rally on them.

That’s true. However you can only dodge so many times to escape the tornadoes and it’s a bit difficult to have easy access to stability. The longer the battle drags out for Kieldra, the more difficult it gets.

As for Liadri being random, I didn’t clarify it too well, but the cosmic rifts were what I was referring to. There were at least 5 times when I got the rhythm down to nailing Liadri and I saw a rift appear on the opposite side of the arena. I couldn’t close the gap in time, got pulled, then got insta-downed by a “nicely” timed aoe. At that time, I didn’t even know you could rally off of the rifts.

Then again, these are just personal opinions. However I would never say that Queen’s Gauntlet was too difficult. It was a much-needed challenge IMO. I don’t usually get a rush of pleasure when I destroy pixels, but I honestly felt like I accomplished something after killing Liadri.

Stop whining

whining:
1. Give or make a long, high-pitched complaining cry or sound.
2. Complain in a weak or irritable way.

I have posted a request and have given my reasons for the request.

Don’t throw the dictionary out when it isn’t necessary. Like another poster said, the mobs you face in Queen’s Gauntlet are perfectly fine. I killed every single enemy (except Liadri and Kieldra) on my first attempt and this is coming from a casual player with only 800 hours of play. Granted, I went to Dulfy.net and looked at the guides before fighting, but I did not want to burn more coin than I needed to since I expected to use a lot of tickets on Liadri.

For the most part, this is not a sadistic attempt by Anet to screw at least half of the player base. If I can do it, so can you. I’m not a professional gamer or have the skill level where only 3% of Guild Wars 2 can match. I’m just an average Joe.

The dungeons are difficult/near impossible if you don’t know what you’re doing. However, once you eat enough dirt and see what the bosses do, you’ll be able to understand what weapons to use for what bosses, when to dodge, etc etc.

If you’re going into a completely unfamiliar dungeon, you should expect to go down/die often. It happens to everyone, not just you. It sucks to be constantly floor-hugging, but that’s something bound to happen if you’re inexperienced. The patience is worth it though; dungeons are extremely fun once you get the hang of it.

As for AC being a “severe gear check,” it really isn’t. At least for the pre-change AC dungeon, I was in parties where we were between 35-60 and cleared it without wiping.

So a 10 min run is not bad is you ask me.

He was directly referring to a speed run group i.e. 4 warr/1 mes, full zerk and fully traited in dps. Within these circumstances, a 10 minute run is quite bad. However, for a casual speed run, depending on the party make up, a 10 minute run is rather acceptable.

I wouldn’t consider it normal; it’s more “elitist” in my opinion. Sure having 5 lvl 80s makes the dungeon easier, but there is nothing wrong with having a lvl 35 in your group. I’ve ran AC many times (enough for a full set of armor, 3 longbows, 3 shortbows, 2 axes, a warhorn, sword and torch) and I have had success even with sub-80 teams.

I once had a lvl 80 thief tell me that if the troll and Kholer were attacking each other, then it’s perfectly fine to attack both and NOT pull aggro. Sure enough, within 10 seconds of making that comment, Kholer turned to the thief, did his spin2win attack, and downed him instantly.

Granted that aggro mechanics aren’t truly understood, I think that any lvl 80 should know that attacking a mob, or even just standing near it, can generate some form of aggro.

The most important thing is to experiment. Experiment with all of the weapons that a ranger can use and decide what you like the most, then build from there.

For me, I liked long range combat and bows so I built my ranger as an archer. As I played with a lb/sb set up, I didn’t like condition damage as much so I opted for direct-damage instead and geared accordingly. If I felt like I was going down too often, I tweaked my gear to accommodate for more toughness/vit. I chose traits based on what I wanted to do and worked with many different ones to complement my playstyle.

The whole point of what I’m trying to say is play your ranger in a way that is comfortable with you. Don’t be discouraged if you don’t find your perfect set up anytime soon; I sure as hell didn’t find my final set up until weeks after hitting 80. Make it a goal to try everything out that a ranger can do and see what fits your playstyle.

I don’t know about you guys, but I finished this JP on my third try. It took me at least 20 tries, a rage-quit, and a whole lotta swearing before I finished the clocktower JP.

IMO this is a much easier JP. However, it sucks that we have to rush through it and not take the time to check out the surroundings. ANet did an awesome job with the details.

When you finish the puzzle you can look back at everyone else doing it and check out the “hidden vista(?)”

I’m assuming that the completion area IS the “hidden vista,” not that there is an actual vista point?

Well yeah but there is an area in the completion zone (beyond a mini jumping puzzle) to get to a high point with a giant red star. Not a vista per se, but it is one nice view.

I’m totally gonna check that out. Thanks man.

I’m not intending to start some flame war between us, but even as a tanky build (I don’t even slot runes, just soldier crests), I can still dish out great damage, on ranger standards, and still be a living fortress at the same time.

A glass cannon has over 100% crit damage and with over 50% crit chance that’s where your biggest damage comes from.

I have no doubt that a power/vit/toughness can do “decent” damage but if you can survive being glass cannon you should do it…full tanky stats is overkill imo unless you play with other weapons (melee).
You can always switch some berseker gear for valkyrie gear which gives you some more survivality without sacrificing your damage too much.
The damage difference is huge, not small. You have 25% crit damage and 45% crit rate, i have 55% crit rate and 104% crit damage tho only 2k armor and 15.4k HP.

It’s just up to the player…to me glass cannon has enough survivality for PvE/Dungeons, it doesn’t have to be the same for everyone.

Ah that’s right. I didn’t factor in the trait bonus and other things (such a dummy). That really does change things in favor for you. But I’m kinda wondering how do you have such monstrous crit damage. Full berserker/ruby gives 48%, max crit trait gives another 30%, 6 divinities give a total of 12%. Where does the other 14% come from?

Don’t listen to the whining BS, most of it it’s even false (like tanky builds doing more DPS than glass cannon ranger…quite funny)

The best spec for PvE/dungeons is glass cannon if you want to maximize your DPS, weapons are up to you but imo shortbow/longbow is the best combo overall.

Ruby Orbs are great, not the best but they are not far from it and they are cheap…you can get 6 for like 30s instead of spending 20g+ to get 5%+ dmg more. The optimal runes for glass cannon probably are Scholar imo.

The spec varies, some people likes a more defensive or glass cannon. But at least 5 points into BM are a must have for the situational quickness which you can use for different things, for example to rez people faster.
My spec is 20/30/5/0/15, no complains so far tho sometimes i miss the increased range trait on my longbow :O

Rangers are great, the best fractal teams i’ve grouped with (randoms) had 2-3 rangers on the group…it’s a decent class.

Glass-cannon is risky in dungeons, even with a coordinated group cuz any silver mob that comes by and looks at you funny will take a good chuck of your hp out. I hate glass-cannon builds for the sole purpose that if I make a mistake, half to 3/4 of my hp is gone. It’s never fun to see someone go down in the heat of battle cuz then the group temporarily has lost 20% of its peak fighting efficiency.

The stats on my build are 3k att, 3k def, 45% crit rate, 25% crit dam (0% come from gear btw). I run my traits very similar to yours (20/25/10/0/15). Granted, I was a little bit hasty when I said that I gun down mobs in 5 seconds (more like 7 seconds on average). But compare my build/gear to yours, which I’m assuming is glass-cannon, you’d be sacrificing a ton of vit and toughness for smaller increases in damage over the long run.

I’m not intending to start some flame war between us, but even as a tanky build (I don’t even slot runes, just soldier crests), I can still dish out great damage, on ranger standards, and still be a living fortress at the same time.

If any fellow enthusiastic Rangers wanna party with me or level with me, pm “Dalal Kruschev” ingame (my Charr Ranger!)

People complain way too much on the forums. At least from a PvE/Dungeon perspective, rangers aren’t THAT terrible. Hell, I played ranger since day 1; it’s my only lvl 80 and I don’t plan on shelving him for a very long time. I use SB/LB, know how to use both well enough depending on the situation, ankittenanky as balls (3k armor w/18k hp). I literally never go down in solo PvE and dungeons.

I love my ranger and as the fixes start coming it, I’ll love it even more. The Opening Strike fix is already a big step IMO and I’m gunning down mobs even faster (<5 seconds).

I’ve never really had a bad experience with PUGs. Whenever my groups wipe, it’s usually that no one ever talks or takes “lead” of the group or makes use of the target-calling feature. IMO, as long as one person knows how to run the dungeon well, you can run with a PUG provided that the others are competent with the class that they’re playing. It might take a death or two on everyone’s part, but you’ll make it easier in the future on not only yourself, but for the future parties running the dungeons.

Crash at launching the launcher (lol)

I don’t know if this has been covered in the forums, but here goes…

I’m having problems launching the game launcher. Every time I start up GW2, the launcher screen shows up, then immediately the error window pops up and the launcher crashes. I tried to see if reinstalling the game would fix the problem, but I can’t even uninstall the game through control panel because I would be directed immediately to the game launcher, which would proceed to crash.

Prior to all this, I did crash a few times out of nowhere in-game. I verified the files after each crash (which was at least 5 times already) and apparently there is nothing wrong with the files.

If anyone has any advice on how I should proceed, I’d greatly appreciate it. I have attached the error report just in case. Thanks!
