I named my ‘main’ after, Sid Sycle’ a necro I had in GW1, I figure they are related in someway.

My Asura Thief, Dixxie Turpin, is named after a highway man from england.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/kitten_Turpin -(edit) in this link replace the Kitten with the popular nickname for Richard that starts with a ‘D’. For example – the ‘Blank’ Van kitten show. -(edit) And replace the Kitten in that last sentance with a word for a small dam found in Denmark.

Other then that some of my names are taken from porn stars. Jayla Oso, my norn guardian is named after Jayna Oso.

You can google her since I don’t want to link it!

(edit) So funny that I can name a porn star, Jayna Oso, but not a popular nickname for Richard or a small dam in denmark!

I play this game and WoW and lately I find myself playing this game alot more frequently. When I step back into Azeroth It just seems my aggrevation level goes up a notch or two. From people mining the node I was just going for to the Idiot <Tank, Dps, Healer> ruining the instance run in some way, it just seems that the level of ‘jerk’ in WoW is higher on average then in GW2. Now I’ve had some great times in WoW and don’t plan on quiting the game but GW2 just seems more fun right now.

As far as the stategy against the WoW boss versus the strategy against the GW2 boss I really hate the mechanics of the WoW bosses. I raided in WoW and I hated having to wait for the riad leader to take ten minutes out of the run to explain the boss mechanics. I’m a PvE guy and I like to have some sense of immersion when I play. I can’t get that when I have to watch videos of the fights before hand, read the suggested strats from the websites and sit through a little speech about how bad the bad is to stand in.

Now the holy trinity was a great way to make the strategy more complex, but it just lead to more mechanics, most of which you ‘healed through’ anyway and further distorted any immersion.

Take this clip from LotR. A great fight scene against a troll:

Now tell me who’s the healer and the tank?

I’ve noticed on a couple of my female characters, a human and a norn, the heavy leg armor looks over sized. Is this a known bug and are they working on fixing it?

Running and fall damage

I was on my little asura thief just now and mined the copper node just north of Dolyak Pass way point in Wayfarer Foothills. Its on a little ridge so after I was done I kind of did a little hop and ran down the ridge. When I landed I took a little fall damage, it was maybe 10% of my health but I ended up dead. When I landed I continued to run and as I ran my health dropped like a stone. It was like I had a huge damage over time effect on me even though nothing was cast on me.

I rezzed and went back to the sight and tried to recreate the effect. I was thinking I triggered some strange hidden monster or something but it turns out that I was taking falling damage just by running after a fall. Each step was considered another fall.

Has anyone else seen this at all or has it been reported as a bug?

This is pretty much a solo game...

cool post. you want a multiplayer mmo go play final fantasy.

….okay, as silly as the OP’s post is, you realize your response is even more ridiculous, right?

What do you think “MMO” stands for? Because last I checked it stood for Massive Multiplayer Online.

Given how many I see I thought It stood for “Massive Moa Over there!”

Ebonehawke is a large human town tucked into the southwest corner of Fields of Ruin. Like many human settlements it has a “Separatist problem”.

Sounds like when the the Nazis had a ‘jewish problem’ to me.

Maybe you should lay off the history channel for a bit. The language you use is conflating reality and fantasy.

Everybody knows that freedoms are evaporating all around the civilized worlds in favor of more government.

No, what you see as lack of freedom by way of big governament might just be banking regualtions and consumer protections. Things that are needed to stop banking ‘oopsies’ that blow up the economy.

…And the world is actually more free then its been since the 1970’s.

You’re reading way too much into this. Turn off Fox News or whatever Rupert Murdoch publication you might be reading and repeat the phrase: ‘Its just a game, it’s just a game.’ a few times and breath.

…Oh, and just in case. Queen Jennah is NOT a secret muslim.

It’s a well known fact that GW2’s PVE is horrible.

This gave me a chuckle.

It’s well known that players state opinions as facts.

I don’t think it was a randomn attack by the chickens. Maybe they thought the OP, Clark Skinner was related to B F Skiner, the psychologist. B F Skinner used pigeons and chickens in his work so maybe the angry chickens were trying to carry out some sort of vendetta?

I was on Jayla Oso, my lower level gaurdian, in Wayfarers Foothils. There is a chian event there in the north west corner. You have to defend some npcs and take over a fort and then defeat waves of mobs. I got the event done until the last boss showed up and got stomped into the snow. I rezzed at a waypoint and tried three times to get him down but it was prettty futile.
On the last try I was almost successful, On my back, trying to fight to get up on my feet I see a swarm of players rush in! It was a pack of rangers…all wearing the same gear with the same animal. Bots, it turns out they don’t fight as well as they farm so I died yet again.

Human race most promiscuous/sluuty in an MMO – nothing new here, move along.

Well, If you read the books you know that the humans were decimated in a war, so they’re just in the ‘rebuilding phase’ right now.

…To make a game diverse enough to include many different activities and deep enough that each is a viable playing choice is even harder than to make the game emotionally invested.

You describe almost perfectly what I consider the ideal game. Perhaps it is best that there is no “ideal” game yet. What will I look forward to in the future if one happen to appear?

What will you look forward to? The expansion of course!

‘Behind him, Dougal heard Killeen finish her spell. For a moment nothing appeared to happen, and he thought that perhaps she’d panicked and failed to make the incantation work or been interrupted by a stray blow. Then he heard squeaking in the distance, coming towards them from everywhere up and down the tunnels, and moving fast.
The guards heard it, too, and those who weren’t directly engaged in the fight backed off, their swords at the ready, their eyes darting in all directions as they hunted for the source of the noise. The squeaking grew louder and higher, and the guards grew more and more anxious. One of them bellowed in frustration, his cry mixing with the rising squeaks.
The rats came scurrying from all around them, some wet and dripping with sludge, others dry as bone. Their eyes glittering red in the lights that Kranxx and the Vanguard still bore. They sounded hungry.’

I’m reading ‘Guild Wars: The Ghost of Ascalon’ now and this was a scene from the book. It’s cast by Killeen, the sylvari necromancer.

I want this spell in the game! Pretty please! I’ll be a good little necro from now on…honest!

Oops! For some reason this got posted under the wrong forum. It was intended for the necromancer forums

Night/Day effects and times?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Syndi Sycle.8593

Syndi Sycle.8593

Right now the only time I can tell if its day or night is by checking for the stars in the sky. Make the night seem a little more distinct and I’d be happy. Mute or tone down the maximum view distance, give some mobs a night time graphic; such as a glowing eyes for the risen and glowing cat eyes on some of the other mobs. Make windows in building glow and adding street lights or torches in towns would be nice.

If you want a longer cycle make sure its not as long as a 12 hour night/day cycle. Shorten it to 10 or few hours so players that can only play at certain times aren’t ‘left in the dark’ so to speak.

I rolled a Sylvari as an alt a few weeks ago and would like to redo her look. It was a nice fall day so I decided to create this mesmer in fall colors; reds, oranges…just like the tree outside my window. Well all was good but now evertime I see her it looks like she’s been skinned alive!

Anyway of redoing the appearance for a character?

Syndi Sycle.8593

Well I’ve changed my spec to the one suggested by lady.2106 and it seems to be working pretty well. It’s kind of odd to be a caster standing toe-to-toe with the baddie engaged in a knife fight, covered in nothing but cloth but it works pretty well. I was taking out some jungle trolls one by one and kicking some kitten feeling rather please with myself overall. I was glouting in my new found prowess when I accidently got too close to a veteran jungle troll. The fight was pretty good though. It was a group event but I didn’t get one shotted and hurt him pretty good too before he beat me to a bloody pulp.

Oh well.

Maybe I was going to the wrong source for information? Is Noxxic.com any good for builds? I never hear them mentioned but I went there out of habit for a quick build and was useing this:

…as my solo dps/questing build. Any reliable sources for builds other then noxxic?

I’ve been playing my necromancer since the beginning and I just don’t seem to be getting it right for whatever reason. I feel fragile when I’m exploring the 65-70 level areas. Alot of kiting and careful pulls are making me feel a little weak to say the least. By the time one mob is dead another one has respawned behind me limiting my movement.

I’ve been reading about some necromancer issues on the forums and I think it might be a good idea to start fresh with a re-roll.

Any suggestions for a new character? Something that is fun to play and not too ‘squishy’ would be great.

New GW trinity idea

Syndi Sycle.8593

If the weapons are so easily switched for a given situation I think the spec should be switchable as well. I have a damage build on my necromancer for questing and hate having to respec each time I go into a group for something. Let us have another preset spec that can be switched to quickly, in combat or at least without having to go to a trainer and I’d be happy. Having more then one spec to switch between and the idea would be much more palatable.

I just got my very first gold coin today …at level 57.

There are so many little nickle and dime traps in this game. As a necromancer, when I raise a minion its seems like they come into being with me owing them money somehow!

Syndi Sycle.8593

One thing I think that is being over looked in this discussion is the fact that MoP is out and the new raid has started. Players ‘left’ to spend more time getting thier WoW toon to 90 and step into the holiday events. Some of them will be back once they get tired of grinding dailies.

And yes I know there is a ‘grind’ in this game too but it doesn’t feel like its as tedious of a grind as in WoW.

Am I the only one who loves this class?

in Necromancer

Posted by: Syndi Sycle.8593

Syndi Sycle.8593

Yeah I have to say I really feel like my necro is my class. I played the original GW and rolled a necromancer. His name was Sid Sycle, after the punk rocker. Loved the /dance and the overall look so just kept with him.

I just wish I could get more of that ‘punk’ look with this toon. I imagine Syndi Sycle is his niece and would love it if the helm wasnt just a hat but a scar pattern across her face like in GW. And the /dance, really, shufflin’, really? This girl is wilder than that, she needs a /dance that has a good possiblilty to cause injury to herself or other!

I agree OP, Ive used the sliders, and Ill say it definitly helped a lot, but I still keep thinking I look too much like an effeminate elf, especially when Im standing next to a norn >.<

Well doesn’t anyone look like a little effeminate when standing next to a Norn?

Well, anyone but Clint Eastwood that is.
