Kit switching deals confusion damage?

Of course it deals Confusion damage and yes, I believe, it is intended. Equipping a kit is considered an action use and therefore it is subjective to any and all other restrictions AND benefits that come with skill use.

It is not all bad that kit switching can trigger confusion damage. A popular tactic is that Engineers can take great advantage of the “on heal” trigger in a lot of rune sets with the Med Kit to stack boons and turn their heal slot into something more useful than just a heal. I am sure there may be other benefits as well.

Which class fits me?

I am just adding that you should keep Movement Speed outside of combat in mind in while making your decision. Your primary preference of play involves a lot of travel around a map and, naturally, you would want to be able to accomplish this task efficiently and with the lowest amount of frustration.

The fastest Movement Speed that any profession can accomplish outside of combat is 33% which is through 100% uptime on Swiftness. Some professions even have means to leap, teleport, or move faster periodically and some professions are even way better at that than others. Some Professions also have options to move at 25% Movement Speed through traits and all Professions can take advantage of the 6 piece Rune of Speed set, but using either of those alternatives limits your character’s build by replacing other useful traits, abilities, or runes.

Movement Speeds do not stack. Only the highest Movement Speed buff on your character is considered at any given time and aside from the Engineer’s Super Speed and the Thief’s Fleet Shadow, Swiftness is the fastest Movement Speed buff in the game at 33%. Of course you will have to sacrifice to achieve 100% uptime on Swiftness, but you would also have to sacrifice for other movement speed buffs as well. That is why 100% uptime on Swiftness out of combat is important, because it is the best deal for your sacrifice.

That said, I would just like to rebute the claims that Mesmer is the Profession for you. A Mesmer only has two reliable paths to achieve 100% uptime of Swiftness outside of combat and no other choices for increased movement speed beyond runes. Both paths for a Mesmer to reach 100% Swiftness uptime rely on a massive investment of Boon Duration (upwards of at least 50%), which is not a stat that you would want to rely on as a roamer, or the investment of Boon duration AND the use of runes. Sure, a Mesmer can solo really well and is great for adapting to changing situations, but so are some other Professions that can achieve ideal movement speed with FAR less investment than a Mesmer can. The best builds for Mesmers are notoriously slow at moving around a map by themselves and they rely on the Swiftness Boons granted by other Professions to get around efficiently.

has anyone ever soloed a tower?

The PvE aspect of soloing WvW content is relatively mild at best. You can find videos of players soloing towers all over the place with a bunch of different classes. You just need a build with high survivability and sustained damage. Time and stealth is the main problem; soloing a Tower is not a fast trick and you can easily get caught with all of the bells and whistles on the WvW map.

Your reasoning escapes me. You want ANET to do something about WvW being boring and your suggestion is to add incentives for Defending? I was under the impression that Defending was considered boring by most people.

Does using AA count as using a skill?

As many people in here have stated, “Auto-Attack” can refer to anything that you put on Auto-Cast; not just your #1 skill.

That said, if the skill has a channel bar (#1 skill or not), it can be interrupted. So if an “auto-attack” has a channel bar, then yes, “auto-attack” can be interrupted.

Now whether this refers to Rune of Perplexity being overpowered or not, the solution is simple: do not auto-cast. Any PvP pro will tell you, from any game, that predictable skill usage is a weapon that your foes will learn to use against you. In other words, if you are attacking in a discernible pattern, you are just being a bad player.

The problem is, Warrior and Thief are just not appealing to me. I do not like either of their class mechanics. But now I am curious if Guardian can achieve the whole Swiftness deal.

Thank you for your replies.

I don’t believe quickening thirst and the locust signet stack, so you can use on or the other. FWIW

Well that sucks with Signet of the Locust and Quickening Thirst. I just looked it up as well and apparently the game mechanic is the highest Movement Speed buff trumps the others :/ Thank you for pointing that out for me before I made a mistake :-p I guess I will just have to somehow buff my Swiftness duration to 100% then and trait the Warhorn fully to have Perma-Swiftness.

Movement speed trumps all other goals with my intentions.

I guess the Boon duration focus though shifts my whole build focus to applying boons then.

Dagger/Dagger for WvW?

Hey there,

I am an immigrant from the Mesmer class. I just started playing this game last month and got a Mesmer to 80, only to discover that I cannot use the Mesmer for anything I enjoy doing in this game. So I need to make a new character and, based off from Traits and stuff, the Necromancer looks like it is right up my alley. However, I cannot seem to find any builds or guides that talk about what I would like to do with this Necromancer, so I thought that I would start by asking here

I primarily would like to focus on defense in WvW. I like setting up defensive siege on the map and keeping eyes open for map activity to report to the commanders. I also enjoy repairing damage done to attacked locations on the map and defending locations from attacks with siege. As anyone who plays WvW can guess, this requires a character that can move around the map pretty fast and also a character that is great for AoE disruption of the enemy in the event that I have no siege to rely upon.

As far as I can tell, I know that a Dagger/Dagger Necromancer with Quickening Thirst and the Locust Signet is the route to go, but I do not know where to go from there. Should I focus on power because of the Dagger or Condition through crits and Bleed damage? Also, how is the Necromancer at healing? I know that there are not very many healing centric options in the game, but can the utility of a Necromancer decently help with healing?

I am not really sure at this point. If anyone could give me some pointers or link a guide, that would be wonderful. Thank you for your time

Also, do me have any healing field of AoE heals that are not based on pure luck?

For a Mesmer, our only two dependable options for healing fellow players are through Regeneration Boons and the 20 point Inspiration Trait Restorative Mantras. Regeneration Boons can be applied dependably with the 15 point Inspiration Trait Phantasmal Healing; however, it takes some tactical planning with other players to get it to work since you cannot move your Phantasms wherever you please. Restorative Mantras can also be bothersome because you have to track down healing targets.

Already have, sure they are decent but they arent exactly great either. Slow Auto atatck, both on projectile speed and cast time is kind of annoying, wouldnt be to bad having the 2nd and 3rd causing conditions and/or make the clones DO something i doubt a Staff Clone sort of thing would work but maybe there attacks could cause a condition as well

They clones do cause conditions. When they crit, they inflict bleed because of the sharper images trait. Beyond that, the clone spam of Scepter 1 lets condition Mesmers make use of the apply conditions on death traits as a mechanic to control a fight.

Sigil of Malice good for Condition Mesmers?

in Mesmer

Posted by: TIFour.1076

TIFour.1076

I am in full agreement. Not only is the Sigil of Malice’s worth almost garbage compared to some other runes, but you should keep in mind that the soft cap for Bleed damage is 80% Condition Duration and the true cap for all conditions is 100%, both of which are perfectly reachable without the Sigil of Malice.

Vulnerability stacking?

TIFour.1076

I was actually stacking Vulnerability through Sword Clones, my own Sword attacks, and Dazes (Mantra of Distraction, Diversion, and Sword 4). My build was 30/20/0/20/0. Thank you for your informative posts though. I think that I just chose the wrong class to level to 80 first. I am still learning this game (just started in July) and I was under the impression that any profession could cover any role. However, it would seem that Mesmer is not what I am looking for as I cannot even find a reliable niche with the profession that I enjoy playing.

Vulnerability stacking?

Posted by: TIFour.1076

TIFour.1076

Howdy folks! I am still quite new to the game and I am trying to find a niche that I enjoy as a Mesmer. I tried going the healing route, but Guild Wars 2 does not have dedicated healing roles so I abandoned a full heal focus.

I believe I found a new build that suits me, again, but I am left asking the question of whether a focus on Vulnerability is a good thing. The build I have right now can splash heal with Mantras and Regeneration boons from Phantasms, do okay damage (Blurred Frenzy is awesome), while keeping a full 25 stacks of Vulnerability on my target (and I can get the stacks up to 20 in a matter of seconds at the start of a fight).

Does this build sound like it has a decent niche to fill? Is Vulnerability normally difficult to keep stacked at 25? I tried watching Vulnerability stacks on Event bosses and I have only seen an average of 10 or so stacks, but it would be naïve for me to believe that the best players and builds are trolling low level maps.

Thank you for your time.

[PvE] Leveling up with Staff

TIFour.1076

I just finished leveling as a Staff Mesmer. At 30 you should be high enough to get Deceptive Evasion at 20 points in Dueling. After you get that, having 3 clones up at all times is a really easy feat and Winds of Chaos will pile on the Conditions like nothing else. For more damage, you can spam Mantra of Pain or rely on racial skills. Also, check into Veggie Pizza to increase your Condition Durations and increase your experience.

A Healing Mesmer's Role?

Posted by: TIFour.1076

TIFour.1076

Thank you for your informative posts. I have already found a build that speaks to me, but I was unsure whether it would be well received in a party if I advertised myself as a Healer (because I use Regeneration Boons and Healing Mantras). But now I can see that that simply would not be so. From what I understand, Healers are viewed in this game as Buffers as well and the build I have chosen focuses more on Conditions while offering Healing (think Apothecary gear).

Thank you for your time.

A Healing Mesmer's Role?

Posted by: TIFour.1076

TIFour.1076

I am new to Guild Wars 2, but I am not a new MMO player. Over my years of playing MMOs, I know that Healer roles with damage and Crowd Control are my favorites, so I have leveled a Mesmer to 80 and now I feel that I am ready to try Dungeons and WvW for the gear.

My problem, though, is that I have no idea of what is expected of me. I cannot figure out how to add more healing beyond Superior Sigil of Water, my Phantasm’s Regeneration Boon (and passing it on with a Signet), and Healing Mantras. Is that really enough for this game? Do any other Healing Mesmers out there have any advice for a new healing Mesmer player?

I am VERY new :-p
