Learned nothing? More like they follow the same path of every game expansion ever. If expansions didn’t offer exclusives there would be zero point in purchasing them.
And as Pyrate points out, you’ve already downloaded the xpac info. Its there in the dat file, you just cant access it.
Gotta agree here. Take WOW as the classic example, if they didn’t add new things with each expansion the game would of died long ago. But since they do, what are they up to now the 6th expansion?
I play solo for about 80% of the time and didn’t have any trouble, aside from the short adjustment period at the start. Manly because I stop playing for 2 years to finish my degree.
Despite coming late to the HoT party there is always an event running or something to do in the HoT maps regardless of time. The only exception is Dragon’s Stand as there is only the big meta running.
The only mobs I really hate are the pocket raptors as they can kill you if you try to run pass them with softer classes, but they are very easy to kill.
I think what OPs problem is more to do with the content of HoT as oppose to being less “causal”. Since how you go about playing hasn’t really changed from the base game, as you can still do what you want, when you want and aren’t forced into one path of action.

1. ELONA not elonia ;s
2. As always probably 18 EU time….really really not fair for EU ;s
1. CRYSTAL DESERT not Elona.
Well for the demo zone/first POF map anyhow
Apparently there is a new air ship that appeared in Lions Arch that people are guessing is going to be our way into the new zone. Either that or the locked gate at Ebonhawke.
And yet only scythe got that special treatment.
You mean staff?
This is most likely because it made the most sense (Scythe animation wise), namely due to how the character holds the staff and of cause because the size and shape of said weapon.
Would be kind of strange to try and turn a gs into a scythe. Thou it might of been nice to add custom animations for the other weapons. But my guess would be it would of been too much work and not to mention people would most likey start to ask for animations for all the other classes.
Another self entitled thread \o/, seriously if you want the reward gotta work for it. This is exactly like the scythe staff skin topic, were op wants but doesn’t want to work for it and therefore anet should make it easier to get.
Not to mention if there is nothing op likes to do, why continue to play the game? Not like there is a monthly subscription or anyone forcing you to play by gunpoint. Kind of like taking a bite of a sandwich you hate, complain but continue to eat said sandwich anyway.
I have to disagree somewhat with the point about high cost. I like to feel like a game that we pay for at some point in time will make items reachable to everyone. That doesn’t mean that it’s always reachable. It’s a good thing for players to be on the look out for old items that make an appearance in some way and if you want it now you have to bite the bullet and do what it takes to get it now.
I am not a fan of skins disappearing and becoming so rare that they are only reachable by the wealthiest of barons in the game no matter the time. This is not life so a comparison to the real life wealthy of society does not apply. This is a game. That being said, everything has a value and I generally like how this game economy works.
Agreed on not being a fan of skins disappearing and only the wealthiest can only obtain.
However in this case there are alternative ways to get the scythe staff skin, either via the mystic toilet or using a guaranteed wardrobe unlock. These rely more on luck than out right buying it off the tp for 6k.
Which I like. If they gave use everything easily it would make for a very boring game after a little while, as there would be nothing to strive for. Not to mention the feeling of finally getting that item you’ve been working towards.
Who says a necromancer has to have a scythe? You act like “this is a necromancer’s weapon and we don’t even have one commonly available!” But it ISN’T a necromancer’s weapon.
Have you actually looked at Necromancer staff skill animations?
I know right! and yet op say they main necro. I don’t really touch my necro and I learnt about this animation pretty quickly.
Again and again you fail to see that there are two versions of this skin, which look exactly the same, the scythe staff skin consumable from Halloween, which you keep rabbling about and the Scythe Staff Weapon, which is a rare drop from forging 4 rare staves and therefore still available in the game.
Slight correction here, there is one skin only. Kind of like how the low level weapons and armors tend to share the same skins. There are just multiple ways to go about unlocking this skin.
1) Mystic Toilet & TP: Scythe Staff Weapon and when bound to your account should unlock the scythe staff skin.
2) TP: Scythe staff skin consumable that will also unlock the scythe staff skin when used.
3) BLC: Using a guaranteed wardrobe unlock and getting lucky, which would unlock the scythe staff skin directly into your account.
But if op is unwilling to work for the skin, well no one is going to bend over backwards to help, no matter how much op seems to feel entitled to a staff skin that looks like a scythe.

Again, and again, this is not about uniquety or rarity of the specific skin, but about the fact that it’s the only normal scythe skin in game, and there’d be zero problem if there was an alternative. And although I played actively since beta there was never a surefire method to acquire this skin.
And the reason it bothers me it’s because I main a necromancer and is there anything more cruel than playing a necromancer when anet constantly swings a “ha ha, can’t have a scythe” sign in your face
Somehow I think you fail to seem to grasp the fact that there are no scythes in the game, it’s a staff skin that looks like a scythe, there are plenty of other staff skins. Also you say it’s not because it’s unique or rare, but that is exactly why it cost 6k on the tp. Just because you like the look of one staff skin and can’t be bothered to work for it, doesn’t mean that anet should bend over backwards for you.
Not to mention that you seem to miss out of a lot of info from other people, like the fact it was 8g at one point on the tp. So why didn’t you buy it back then if you’ve been playing since beta (or do the event at the time)? or the fact you can get it through guaranteed wardrobe or the mystic toilet.
I like the skin for bifrost and nevermore, am I expecting anet to make it easier for me to get? NOPE, because like that staff skin you want, I have to work for it. As Games of Bones pointed out if you can’t affort/don’t want to work for that skin, you can get the Final Rest for a fraction of the price.
When using a staff (any) on a necro, when you attack it makes it look like a scythe, or when you enter shroud as a reaper.
In sort, you missed out when it was easier to get therefore you have to work harder to get this staff skin. Don’t want to work for it, well tough cookies.
Side note: Haven’t you heard “there are no guarantees in life”

I think the real problem here is that GW2 is normally not a grindy game at all really. Or at least compared to a lot of other MMOs. Thus, after playing this game for a while, it can get rather irksome to run up against some things which DO require a grind, one way or another.
BTW, I did the math and at current conversion rates (13.333333 gold to $1.00), that scythe (6,000 gold) would cost a straight $450.00. Whatever you think about supply and demand in GW2, that’s a lot of ####ing money for just one weapon skin.
If you’re playing through the story then no you don’t have to grind. But as soon as you get into post game stuff, raids, high level fractals etc you’ll gonna have to grind to get ascended equipment, as they are account bound. This would involve grinding the crafting professions, materials and gold.
Then there is legendary equipment which is another can of worms which is in the thousands of gold each. Basically if you want something fancy/functional in post game, you gotta work for it.
Also you assume anyone (most people) would pay real money to get gold. The $$ to gems and then to gold, is rather poor when it comes to conversion rates. Most people would just grind for the gold and if they need something from the gem store then they can convert gold into gems.
Heck my guild master has 14 legendary weapons, and all are crafted himself.

There’s not a version of a lot of weapons in-game. I won’t bother to try to name them. And a scythe isn’t even usually a weapon (yes I know that sometimes it was). I don’t see the need to have a commonly-available scythe any more than any of the hundreds of other weapons that are not available or commonly available.
I know right. It’s just a a staff skin, there are plenty of others out there. Op acts like it’s the end of the world if there isn’t a accessible scythe skin. Well if you missed the time limited event, well tough cookies.
You’ll gonna have to find another way to get one and there are other ways aside from paying 6k in gold, which is still a valid option even if op doesn’t like it. Not to mention at one point as Jumpin Lumpix pointed out it was only 8g on the tp
As pointed out early, others ways to get skin are through the mystic toilet or guaranteed wardrobe unlock.
So if want it you gotta work for it.

They are rare but not completely unavailable

Guaranteed Wardrobe Unlock is another way to get his skin.
Again, price was irrelevant to my comment. Sooner or later those skins will be sold, though imo they will sell for less than what they are listed at. Then you have yet another skin that is no longer available to newer players for no good reason. Anet has already introduced other older skins, I don’t see what’s so wrong with someone asking for them to introduce a new way to earn this one as well
There is a very good reason, they are time limited event only items (Holloween 2014 in this case). So if a new player pops in way after the event has ran, then they shouldn’t expect to get said item without some effort, even if that involves a large amount gold <—this is still technically another way to get said item after the event.
To compensate for this new items are introduced each year for the time limited events, which new and old players can get stuff from.
The price was more towards the op who seems to think no one would pay that much for the skin (since op can’t imagine having/saving that amount of gold), however those posting offers begs to differ. Again basic economics.
There is nothing wrong with asking, but there is also nothing wrong with people pointing out why it’s flawed.
I don’t understand the issue. It’s a skin that some people covet. Why does every skin in the game need to be affordable for everyone? I like that I have to carefully consider my budget in deciding which skins I prefer; it makes my choices more important.
Price aside, right now there are 2 available for sale, while there are 974 buy offers up. That’s 2 orders of magnitude (nearly) more buy offers than there are scythes available. Clearly demand, while still fairly low, is far far higher than the available supply. Thus its not unreasonable for someone to request a new way to obtain the skin.
Well that is just simple economics for you, which tends to hold more so for limited available items.
If it was an essential item that was not available aside from a high gold/gem from the tp, then I would agree they need a way to find another way. However this is just a weapon skin (not going to kill you if you don’t have it) and if you want it you gotta pay it’s current value.
In terms of real world equivalent, say I want a 1962 Aston Martin DB4 Zagato which went for $14,300,000 usd. Would I like it, yes, will it kill me if I don’t, no. Am I going to go to Aston Martin and demand that they make another way/lowering the cost of this limited available car, again no.

Rare item/skin = More Gold, simple.
There is no “paywall” since that is just what the skin is valued at the moment due to supply and demand. Not to mention it’s 6k in game currency and not gems and therefore set by players (again supply and demand).
If in game currency is a “paywall” then you can say that for everything on the tp or any high price stuff you craft.
So if you really want an item you have to save you gold, you can’t expect players/Anet to accommodate the fact you can’t save or grind.
I would have that 6k in gold myself by now if I didn’t craft a bunch of ascended armors/weapons for my characters, let along going to go craft legendary stuff.
I’m still holding onto the holographic wings from living world season 1, currently it’s not worth too much ~200 gold on tp. However in the future I imagine the price going up, as more people bind them their accounts and lowering the supply. As it’s not available to get anymore via the event.
Who knows if the price rises much or it could also potentially drop, I’m not a psychic but I can make some educated guesses and “if” at some point it reached something like 6k in gold, are you saying I should be penalized because someone wants it but doesn’t want to pay said amount for the limited available item?

It is annoying when you buy something and it goes on sale a week later, unfortuenly it happens, not just here but in life in general.
However if it was listed and specifically said it was going to end and not be available next week, hence why you brought it, then it might be worth contacting a-net and seeing what they say, maybe they will help out somehow.
Yea it specifically says it was only available for this week and still does in the gem store. I only found out about the sale because of the news posted on the gw2 website today.
Guess I gotta contact support.
I would love to see a back item version of the the blood stone glider, doesn’t even need much work just use the same texture/look as the glider.
Pretty much what they did with the white/back wings.
Welp felt like I just got slapped in the face today after reading the latest news.
In short I got it earlier this week because it says on the gem store that it was only available for this week, well turns out if today’s news on the gw2 website is to believe it’s going on sale NEXT week for 20% off!! 0_o
Are the “character slot expansions” bought from the gem store applied automatically after purchase?
I am asking because I was a little distracted when I made some purchases from the gem store. Got 2 “bank slot expansions” and a “character slot expansion”. Got some mail after purchase, but I just kind of clicked through it.
I know the extra banks slots were applied, as they require manual activation of an item. But when I went back to read the letter that was sent for the “character slot expansion”, it had deleted itself.
This wouldn’t be much of a problem except for the life of me I don’t remember how many character slots I had before I bought this one and so I don’t know if I had to activate an item or not like the “bank expansion slots”.
Thanks.
