I have this happen a lot too. On sylvari, norns.. humans.. charr.. All of them (never seen it on an Asura though), and whether I play them or not. I was grouped for a teq defense the other day and had to deal with one of my teammates being plagued with this.

I figured it was a Mac client issue, but it half relieves me, half frustrates me that this happens on Windows as well.
It frustrates me because it happens to me on my ranger too, or when I’m playing with my friend. Nothing is more frustrating than having to log out/log back in simply because the friend I play with tells me “You have a bird stuck on you.”.

I’ve got the issue, but I also have an awful internet connection. The game doesn’t lag for me unless there are groups of people around/lots of AoEs, but when my net goes to cutting out, if I’m jumping and do not realize I am lagging out (because it looks fine for me), fall damage will kill me, or I’ll continue running until I fall off a cliff or run into a wall.
Even when I am NOT lagging however, I’ve simply walked down a hill or stairs and have received fall damage. From stairs!

So most likely, it’s you lagging out (whether due to your connection, your computer, both or the latency of the server you play on) and the (terribly) sensitive/OP fall damage killing you.
….Perhaps it’s just a little excessive IMO because I play WoW and regularly jump off high cliffs just for the fun of it, but it is still a bit TOO touchy.

I did indeed get these popups, I believe it was Wednesday night. I saw two and like you said, clicking them made them go away. Since then however, I haven’t seen any more. I don’t doubt that they will return, but you’re definitely not alone.

Edit: Oh my gosh, I downloaded Spotflux and it actually WORKED. Thank you, Controller! Now I can finally get in on the event.

It isn’t my internet causing the cutouts, Controller. it’s downloading, but simply never finishing. It continues to download, but just will not complete.

Havok, be sure to let me know what they say. I’m so disappointed in the past two times I’ve had to contact them that I simply just don’t think they’re going to help.

To be honest, that’s happened to me since buying the game in August and people in the Windows forum have the same issue.
I’ve learned to live with it and simply restart the launcher.

At this moment for me, there is 268 MB downloaded for this SINGLE FILE and it’s still not finished. I’m beginning to believe I’m just not going to be able to participate at all in the holiday, let alone even play the game I paid for any longer without having my friend send me her .app/.dat file AGAIN as I had to do to begin with to even get the client to install.

On top of it all, every time there is a new patch, I have to jump through hoops to even get the client to launch. Once it finally DOES launch, it launches every time until there is a new patch, but most of the time, it takes me going in to “show package contents” > starting the file “cider” and leaving it for anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour and a half before the client launches. This happened during the September patch.

Patching will not complete.

Sorry to hear you’re having the same issue, but I’m definitely glad I’m not alone. I saw where another player was having a similar issue over in the PC forums as well, so it’s definitely not a Mac-only problem.

Since the October patch, I’ve been unable to download the last files needed for it. It was up to date before, but upon reaching the last 7 files, they slowed down drastically. Fighting with the client dropping to 0.0 kbps, I managed to get it to download sporadically.

The issue I’m having now though, is upon reaching 7 files remaining, it kept downloading. I downloaded over 1 GIGABYTE of data (between restarting the client due to the 0.0 drop) and it barely budged. Over the course of the day, I got ONE FILE DOWNLOADED. Over the next day, I did another. Each file being well over 700 MB. Now I’m stuck on the last trying to download, 300 MB and counting. Just for ONE FILE.

I got today’s patch downloaded fine, minus the one singular file I had remaining from the Oct. patch. I’ve tried repairing, I’ve tried deleting all the usual folders/plists for troubleshooting the Mac client.

It isn’t an issue with my terrible internet, because I recently downloaded a 10 gig patch for World of Warcraft just fine without a single hitch, but I can’t download a measly little patch that was only 250 MB for my friend?

What is going on here? Am I going to miss all of my first Halloween event simply due to this ridiculousness?

I should mention I have not sent in a ticket because the last two times, the techs have not even read my message explaining the steps that I’ve already tried and instead have given me copy-paste replies for things I can find on the stickied posts in these forums.

Can I just come in here and say.. even though I’m a Mac user… I’ve had the same issue for nearly three months now with the download dropping to 0.0 kbps.

This last Halloween/Oct. patch screwed it up badly. I’ve downloaded over a gig with 7 files remaining and they barely moved. Through persistence I’ve kept downloading, and have managed to get it to 1 file remaining. 200 MB later, it still hasn’t moved.

Edit: I should mention that is before today’s patch. I’m banging my head against the desk now there’s MORE to download, but hopefully it doesn’t get stuck like it was. I’ll edit this if it downloads correctly.

My problem is of a different nature. I’ve downloaded over 700+ MB over a while (the launcher loves to drop to 0.0 kbps for me and refuse to do anything at all) for the last patch, I was fully update before the Halloween/October patches, and dwindled it down to the last 4 files remaining.
Now, today, I’ve downloaded 500+ more MB and it still has not budged from 4 files. I’m STILL letting it download and it is not finishing. I refuse to believe a patch is over a gig (and my .app is still only 20.49 gigs). What’s going on here? I’m hoping it will finish soon, but this is quite ridiculous.

Has this been fixed yet? I haven’t been playing since my last post and am about to start playing again (as soon as I get this kitten of a launcher to patch), and it will severely disappoint me if my necromancer still gets nothing.

It wasn’t the case before the Sept. patch, but it seems like it’s the case now. I had multiple icons in the dock but I eventually fixed it.

So, as long as it doesn’t crash more often for you BECAUSE of the multiple processes, I wouldn’t worry about it. It’s “normal”. Hopefully they fix it soon.

I too crash badly during heavy graphics fights. I have to set my graphics settings down to the bare minimum (minus the native resolution so it’s not blurry) and even then, it crashes at times.
I had this problem too back last year when I played a trial that was going on. I contributed it to the fact that not shortly after, I had to have my graphics card replaced, but having it replaced and coming back to the game now shows me that isn’t the case.

I’ll post my specs here.

It is not only hurting income, but crafting professions as well. I’m struggling to get through leveling tailoring because of the sheer lack of drops. I’m not against heavy and medium armor dropping once in a while, but it’s ridiculous when I am FORCED to purchase extremely expensive armor just to need to do it again 10 levels later. (if it were only bits and pieces I’d be fine with it, but I shouldn’t be FORCED to buy whole entire sets due to absolutely NOTHING dropping.)

I’ve yet to get an 80, as I just bought the game a few weeks ago, but I had played it previously before the Sept. patch and before that during a free trial period and I know definitely for sure that this is really really screwed up for some professions. I hadn’t seen an issue with my guardian or my engineer, but I’ve not played them enough to make a full assumption. I know that the discrepancy is really visible when I play them for 10-30 minutes at a time and get a whole set of useable armor versus playing my necro for 3-4 hours at a time and getting absolutely nothing at all.
It’s happened to my friend as well, so it’s definitely not bad luck.

I’m going to bump this and see if anyone is still having the issues after the patch, as nothing was mentioned in the patch notes. I just got the game patched so I’ll go run about in a while to see if they’ve fixed it.

Oh man, bad clipping bugs is the bane of my existence in games, more so especially since I’m an artist.. but.. I have to say, that is the funniest (and most inappropriate) clipping glitch I have ever seen. LOL
I hope they fix it soon, it’s a lovely armor set.

yep got it too. my ranger mostly got light armor drop and weapon like staff etc, my necro got bow and all kinds of medium type armor.

Ugh, really? I hadn’t played my ranger since the patch, so I didn’t know. Necro was the only one I personally saw the issue on.
I’ve been playing Guardian and my Necro mainly, but my friend was on her Mesmer a lot and got appropriate drops. Guardian gets appropriate drops, Thief does, I’m pretty sure Ele does, and I want to say I believe I’ve played my Engineer since the patch and got appropriate drops. Other classes, I can’t speak for. Thanks for letting me know that it happens on a Ranger though. Good thing I have a lot of surplus leveling armor for her.

C’mon, Anet, could you please look at this? It’s gonna be frustrating for newbies joining too, since Necros (and Rangers) will have a hard time getting leveled due to bad gear drops and may not know to buy karma armor or craft their own.

Yep, we’re totally not crazy. I leveled all last night and seriously only got one singular piece of cloth armor that was useful, plus one low-level white piece. Other than that, I got nearly a whole set of green armor for my Engineer, plus multiple blues and a couple of piece of heavy armor.

I should mention this was from fighting SEVERAL veterans and two champions on top of going around for hours unlocking hearts and such in the map (Fields of Ruin), and a chest or two (which is where I managed to get lucky enough to get the chest piece.).

Oh no, I’m so sorry to hear that it affects you too, but I’m glad I’m not alone. It’s sad. I’m fairly new to the game (but I played back a year ago on trial), and so far my highest IS my necro, about to tip 40 using level 33 gear simply because I cannot get any drops and what I do have is karma gear! I’ve started multiple other light armor wearers and necromancers alike, but never had this problem until the Sept. patch. I noticed it one night while messing about, but thought maybe I was just having bad luck or it was the area, but lo and behold, it kept happening, even on newly started characters.

I’m so glad it’s not just me and my friend having awful luck on our ‘mancers, but I’m also sorry you’re going through the same thing. Hopefully Anet will look into this because it’s just sad, and in the meantime I really hope you manage to get some drops.

I think you’re going to see this on all cloth armor types because the economy would tank if bots were allowed to level a toon to 50ish at linen salvage levels and then park it for the sole purpose of opening chests farmed by other toons. The most common drop is usually the lowest value salvage in my experience as much as I hate to say it.

No, no, this is abnormally low. As in, I have not gotten a SINGLE cloth item whatsoever since the patch. But when I played a mesmer, I got cloth drops. Played an ele, I got cloth drops. My Necro? Now I’m only getting heavy armor. Useful drops should NOT be THIS ridiculously low to the point where I’m scrounging for gear. When I made a necro to play around with yesterday, she didn’t get ANY useful loot except for what was given as level up/story completion. It actually made a noticeable difference in efficiency.

Pre-patch, you got loot more often that would be useful at least momentarily. Now it’s just heavy armor and sometimes leather drops. As I mentioned, I saw more cloth drops on other classes than my necro who is getting absolutely nothing whatsoever.

I’m not asking for them to drop like mad or hand things to us, but since the patch changes, they were supposed to up the chance of useful loot dropping, and as I said before, it works for every single other class… just not on necromancers.

I’m going to bump this again, it’s still not resolved. I’m tired of my poor necro not getting any cloth loot, either for salvaging or for use. It seems now though, I’m getting 98% heavy armor.

Unfortunately doesn’t seem to help at all, even deleting the new files I had (I found a documents folder that wasn’t there before) I guess I’ll try leaving it “running” for a few hours and see if it decides to do anything.
Stupidest part is it worked earlier yesterday, but after the new patch hit was when I couldn’t open it. I guess I’ll try forcing it to work today and if not, I’ll send a ticket and hopefully find SOME sort of response.

Okay, now my launcher won’t come up. Which “My Documents” folder are you guys talking about and where is it located? Even unhiding the hidden files in my computer’s document folder shows absolutely nothing that has been touched since I got this computer.

Sorry if it’s a dumb/obvious question.

Edit: Well, from snooping around there should be a folder in my documents for the game, but there is absolutely nothing in there aside from a personal folder. So I guess that fix is out the window for me. Now I have to figure something else out.

Aw man, I was hoping it would work. Was worth a shot, I suppose. I really do hope you can get it working. God knows I know how you feel hassling with not just the game crashing randomly, but the launcher giving us all fits. XD

Well, I’m unsure if it will help, but try going into your Applications folder, right clicking the Guild Wars 2.app, and click “Show Package Contents”. Navigate to the MacOS folder, and start the only thing in there, titled “Cider”.

See if that opens it up for you. After it does, you can safely close Terminal and continue on. It worked for me when I had the issue, hopefully it will work for you guys.

Also, @Snuckerpooks next time that happens, try going into your activity monitor and quitting the “wineserver” and “Guild Wars 2” processes, if any. That can keep you from having to restart, because the game is still “running”. It likes to hang and keep a process open sometimes since the last patch.

Ah yes, exactly my point.
I wasn’t necessarily in need of the armor, (I mean, that’s what Karma and crafting are for) I just found it strange that a Necromancer was mostly getting leather armor, and I imagine it can be frustrating for a new player that may need the armor and I think it needed to be reported regardless or else it may continue on.

I also have this issue with the flamethrower kit. I can’t recall off hand if it was on the bomb/grenade kit as well.

I’ve got a level 30-ish Necromancer and since the update which was supposed to gear the loot drops to your profession, it felt like all I was getting were leather/medium armor drops from the area I was in. (Gendarran Fields)
Today, I started a random Necro and again, 99% of the armor drops I get are medium leather, and my friend, who also started a Necro with me has the same issue. (Sylvari starting area for both of us).
I’m almost level 10 and out of about 15 armor drops, all have been leather, no cloth. About the same for my friend except she got a single cloth glove drop.

I’ve not had this issue with the “wrong” armor dropping on any characters level 1 to 33 of other professions, so is our luck actually just absolutely terrible or are the Necros now seemingly rigged to receive mostly medium armor drops since the patch?

Problems (minor) with the mac launcher for me currently:

1. No autoplay, have to click login and then click play
2. Only 1 icon in dock, sometimes 3-4 windows in the mission control (where it shows all windows)

Apart from that its fine here.

Try the fix I found out that I detailed in this thread. It worked for the multiple icon/mission control/activity monitor thing.
Sometimes there’s an extra mostly inactive process in activity monitor after launching the game, but it can be quit safely without crashing the game. I think the launcher just hangs sometimes.

Resolved the tgUpdate/multiple process issue.

Hey all,

I had an idea last night that I attempted just now and it seemed to have completely fixed my issue with multiple processes/icons in the dock AND my tgUpdate problem, and I wanted to share it with you guys. Hopefully it will help those who are having the same problem I did. I submitted a ticket with my issues to ANet, but I simply received the same copy-paste replies I did previously.

Basically, download the new client .dmg from the site as you would if you were doing a fresh install. Before opening it, go to your Applications folder, rename your Guild Wars 2.app to something else. I simply used “GW2”. Now, run the .dmg for the installer, allowing it to install a new Guild Wars 2.app to your Applications folder.

Make sure the launcher will start up before you go any further. (It did not for me at this step) If it will not, I’ll explain how to get it to launch down below. Regardless, close it out. You may need to force quit it from your Activity Monitor as it may hang and refuse to close normally.

Now what I want you to do is go to your old one, right click and pick “Show Package Contents”. From there, you need to navigate to "Resources >Transgaming > C_Drive > GW2. Copy the “GW2.dat” from there.
Now, go to your new Guild Wars 2.app, navigate to the SAME folder and replace the “GW2.dat” with your copied one. This is all the data the game usually downloads and may take a bit to paste. (as it is a 20 something GB file you’re copying.)

Now, try starting the launcher. If it will not work, go back into your newer Guild Wars 2.app, navigate to the Mac_OS folder and click the only file in there titled “Cider”. Running it may end up opening the launcher for you, as that solved my issue.
It may also help if you delete the Application Support folder for the game in between there.

From there, I had no issue with the tgUpdate thing, nor the multiple windows and processes that appeared after updating the client.

I’m sure there’s probably an easier way to do this, like copying the files that the wrapper uses from a new “install” of the game, but I found this to be pretty easy and it worked. I hope it works for all of you, and if not, maybe it’ll help point you guys in the right direction. I’m not the most tech-savvy person, so I’m unsure if I’ll be able to help you any further if it did not.

Yep, I’ve got this issue on all my characters, regardless of their height. I came to this forum to see if it was a Mac-specific bug, but glad to know it isn’t!

Hope this fixes soon, this patch is a nightmare for both platforms it seems.

My friend who is running on Mountain Lion isn’t having the issue with any of it at all (no multiple instances, no tgUpdate stuff), but I guess as you said, no sense in worrying about it unless it breaks or crashes more than usual.

Weird, because it’s never happened before this update. And as I said, the tgUpdate thing was fixed until this patch. I’m not incredibly worried about it because as you said, I’m not getting crashes (that aren’t expected, large groups, talking to a store clerk..), but it just confused me a little, especially the launcher’s (at the moment, three) icons.

I guess I’ll just sit it out and hope that some of it may be addressed later, I just thought it was worth bringing up.

Basically what the title says. I managed to finally get the game downloaded (thanks to a friend), and with yesterday’s patch, I’ve found myself witnessing the “tgUpdate” issue once again (it was fixed with my reinstall of the game), and now when I open the launcher, I’m met with anywhere from three to four GW2 icons in my dock.
Once I launch the game, it closes them but appears with another so there are two “running”.

I’ve tried stopping the processes for the extras, closing the non-responding icons (also tried on the launcher), the game freezes and eventually both close.
Starting the game up again simply brings the “tgUpdate” window back, it failing to update and going to the launcher and basically going in a circle. At times it will get about half downloaded before the error cuts it off and sends me to the launcher.

I’ve tried deleting the Application Support folder for the game and dumping the .plist for the game, as per the usual Mac troubleshooting steps and to no avail.
At the moment, I’m trying the Terminal repair command but the launcher does not appear, yet it shows as active in my dock. Leaving it for an extended period of time (now around 10+ minutes), it does nothing nor comes up when I click the icon.

I’ve read another user is having this issue and has posted in a Black Lion thread about it, but I’ve not yet seen issues with the trading post, but probably due to not using it. I did notice when I opened it, yet another icon would appear in my dock, but it would close once I closed the TP.

Nothing has changed as far as updates on the computer between patches, and as I said, it was working perfectly fine previously.

I’ve left it on for anywhere from 30 mins to an hour and a half and sometimes it comes back up and kind of comes and goes, other times it just goes to the connection error(s): retrying thing and from there it simply seems to do nothing at all no matter how long it’s open.

I was afraid there wasn’t much that could be suggested, but I’d rather hear that than a technician simply ignoring what I’m saying and giving me copy-paste replies, so thanks a lot for that, truly. It looks like I’m just going to have to grin and bear it and trudge through this until I can simply get it downloaded. It’s been going since about noon, and only has 791 MB downloaded, so I suppose this is going to be a week-long hassle unless something on Anet’s end clears up.

Hello all,

I’ve recently bought the game (just yesterday) and I’m having some issues downloading it.
The launcher will start the game download (after much fussing with it seemingly not connecting at all and instead staying at a blank splash screen with an empty bar and a checkbox) and download steadily (my connection is slow) until it suddenly flatlines at 0.0 kb/s and will continue to stay that way for an indeterminate amount of time before either;

  1. Pick back up just to drop once more,
  2. It tells me there is a connection error and that it is retrying, just to not do anything at all no matter how long it sits.

My system specs are great for the game, I played it with minor issues during a free trial two years ago. I had to delete the old client/download because I could not download the fix for the tgUpdate issues, plus it was doing the same thing this new client is doing now. All folders and related plists to the game were deleted during this last attempt to get the game to download.

My specs are here:

  • Mid 2011 27-inch iMac
  • Processor: 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7
  • Memory: 16 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
  • Graphics: AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2048 MB
  • Software: OS X is 10.9.4 (Mavericks). I keep this and any drivers up to date all the time.

The only change between now and the previous time I played the game is that I have had my video card replaced (to the same card I had before) and have upgraded from Mountain Lion to Mavericks.

So far my attempts to fix this have included (all multiple times):

  • Deleting the Applications folder for Guild Wars 2.
  • Deleting the .plists associated with the game multiple times in the preferences folder.
  • Resetting my SMC and PRAM.
  • Rebooting multiple times.
  • Using the Terminal command to -repair the game (multiple times)
  • Redownloading the installer multiple times,
  • Forwarding port 6112 in my router, and reassuring that no ports or firewalls are blocking the connection.

I’m using AT&T’s internet service (Not UVerse), and I have had no other issues with downloading games (World of Warcraft, Steam games, Star Trek Online (which is also another Cider wrapped game)) with no issues other than my connection is slightly slow though I download and patch games quite often (and it isn’t bandiwidth issues or lack of room on my harddrive).
I had no issues other than the tgUpdate bug before when I downloaded the game previously.

I have submitted a ticket, but all I have received are copy-paste replies to it without the technician seeming to read that I have TRIED all of said “fixes” to no avail and it’s gotten me quite a bit distraught, leading me to come ask here.

Is this my end, or is it simply issues with Anet’s servers/client due to the amount of lag/connection drops I’ve read people having issues with? Am I going to have to constantly sit and restart the launcher over and over again, leaving my download to be even slower than it normally is because I cannot leave it on at night?

And if it is my end, could someone please give me some clues as to what I could start doing to fix this? (Aside from use a Windows computer, VMware or Bootcamp!)
