Just to update this – after the cold resistance buff wore off at reset, I was able to pvp with no issues whatsoever. So it definitely seems connected to that.

Same issue here, and everything else I am using/doing is the same as I did a few days ago in pvp with no issue. The only difference is the cold resistance buff from doing the story. And with no way to cancel the buff, that makes pvp impossible to do if you have done the story or used the elixir to go into that part of the zone for an entire day.

2 Chilled to the Bone is fricken awesome. Don’t change a thing, especially the animation. Talk about a feeling of explosive power!

I do have one suggestion for a change for Chilled to the Bone – PLEASE make it usable underwater! Necros have only had 1 usable elite skill that can be used underwater ever. There’s no reason this one can’t be. I’m hoping that underwater just hasn’t been addressed yet with the new specializations (although I did discover Reaper Shroud does work underwater, I haven’t tested out any other professions yet), and I know underwater combat is minor compared to many other things, but it would be nice for necros to have another option.

Maybe in the future we should not use locations that require special weapon skills.

I agree! I think the thread is great for sharing and re-discovering the beauty in the game, and the joy of finding a great spot doesn’t have to be lessened due to the frustration of getting there. Good views don’t have to be difficult to get to once they are found – the challenge lies in finding them and then matching the point of view to the previous poster.

At least let’s make the spots so that anyone can get to them without any special skills/leaps/tools.

Hmm – did the thread die out? That would be sad, cause this is a neat activity, and it’s given me a chance to re-explore some forgotten places and re-discover the beauty in the game.

I don’t think my location is too difficult to find. If I need to post a hint I will, but I have faith that someone can find it without help!

Character Creation Options You Want

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Tarral.5862

I was just wishing for more color options on certain things, whether at character creation, or by using kits. I like the variety in hair/eye colors (well, with makeover kits, anyway). But we really need more color options for:

- norn tattoos
- hair accessories
- charr horns (or at least the option to change the color of them at all!)

Honestly, it would be fantastic to add in a color wheel so players have the ability to choose any color for hair/eye/tattoos/accessories. But if that can’t be done, please at least give us more than what is there now!

you realize that that phantasms don’t necessarily weild the same weapon that summond them?
for example, staff’s phantasm actually weilds a scepter, and focus’ weilds axe… etc.

AND – Phantasmal defender wields a shield, regardless of what weapons the mesmer has. So in a way, mesmers always had access to a shield!

Zhaan Veran, sylvari mesmer, will be thrilled to answer your delightful inquires:

I have been told I smell similar to the air before a rainstorm, with a hint of lavender. Someone did once say to me that I smelled slightly of sulfur – I suspect this is most likely the residual smell of the phantasmal magic I use on a regular basis.

Peanut butter sounds delicious! Unfortunately I haven’t tried this human delicacy, but I would so love the opportunity to taste both the smooth and crunchy varieties. Do you have some I could try right now?

How kind of you to offer the money, but I would prefer to earn it myself while aiding others. If you insist I take it, please give it to me in small denominations, and I will spread it around some of those who are less experienced and traveled in Tyria, so they might find things a little easier as they start to make their way in this world.

Oo, now pizza is a treat that I HAVE tasted! It had mushrooms, basil and tomatoes, and I must say it was scrumptious! Since that is the only pizza I have had, I will have to say that those are my favorite pizza toppings – at least until I try some others!

Dogs are quite interesting creatures and bring such joy to others – I couldn’t pick a favorite breed. However, I will say that the face of the pug is so endearing, it could never fail to charm me.

Between mathematics and humanities, I would have to say I lean more towards the humanities, because I simply love interacting with and learning about people and cultures in Tyria. However, I question the word “humanities” – does that strictly mean “humans”? If so, whatever word would apply to all races in Tyria would be a better fit for me.

And it appears you managed to catch Liadynn Veran, my asuran necro, in a chatty mood, as she is willing (or rather deigns) to talk to you:

Nobody has ever told me I smell like anything. Probably dirt. Or omnomberries – don’t ask.
Crunchy. It makes me happy to imagine the crunchy bits are bones.
Money? If you are offering different denominations, you have more than you are offering. Give it all to me. Now. Unless you want to become my next minion. And they tend not too last long.
I don’t really care for pizza. Too soft.
I have no need for a dog. Unless I can turn it into a minion. Then any breed will do.
Humanities – that is the study of how to use humans as fodder, right?

Serenity Temple - missed opportunity

in Living World

Posted by: Tarral.5862

Tarral.5862

Mild spoilers ahead…

When searching for the missing pieces of the Ascalonian crown, I was really happy to see the search take me to Serenity Temple. I just knew we were going to have to complete the Mysterious Stones puzzle to the end to find the crown piece. I have always found this little tidbit in the game uniquely interesting, and I figured there would finally be a real reason for that puzzle to be there – it was set in place to guard the finding of the crown fragment!

But, no, it was not to be. Instead – just finish an event that pops up in the area anyway (or be lucky enough to show up with the event already completed) and look in the rubble…

In fact, all the crown fragments were designed this way: event (not a new one), rubble, fragment. It would have been so much more interesting (and realistic given what you were doing) to have a different challenge for each fragment. The puzzle at the Serenity Temple could have been one of those challenges.

First set is:
- Chest: Dry Bones
- Legs: Way of Koda (from HotW dungeon armor)
- Gloves: T2 Sylvari cultural
- Boots: T2 Sylvari cultural

Second set is:
- Chest: Inquest Vest (from CoE dungeon armor)
- Legs: Order of Whispers legs
- Gloves: Embroidered gloves
- Boots: Apprentice shoes

And a random fact: I have learned from swimming with the first set on that the sylvari glow shows up on the bottom each individual toe!

Tarral.5862

I’m usually really good at mixing and matching sets I like, but I’m having a hard time finding something I’m happy with for my female human warrior. She has dark skin and white hair, and I have found that golds/yellows look pretty good on her.

- I think of her as a “warrior princess” kind of girl.
- I hate heavy, clunky or spiky looking armor on her. (This is one of the things that is making this set hard for me, I think.)
- She has several of the Ebonhawke weapon skins, so working with these weapons would be nice, but isn’t required.
- I will not show a head (unless you come up with a good look to show off her Aviator sunglasses!)
- I have the Aetherblade Gemstore set, and would be willing to get one more set if the look was worth it.
- No T3 cultural or ascended items, please.

I have come up with a couple of sets that are only okay-ish, but since I don’t love them, I thought I’d see what you could come up with.

Thanks, and hope you have fun with it!

Feedback - Ambrite Weapons

in Living World

Tarral.5862

I don’t really like the “bug” aspect, though it makes sense for the zone and amber tie-in. And I can tolerate the rest, but please kill the one with a kittenroach in it with lots and lots of fire! /shudder

I would possibly have considered the ambrite weapon that has a butterfly encased in the amber, except for one major discrepancy. For some reason that escapes me, the butterfly weapon is not a weapon that mesmers can use – you know, the one class that is actually already associated with that particular insect…

Tarral.5862

I loved this whole story, and that line was the only thing that broke immersion for me. I wondered about it being Taimi that Rox was referring to, but the scene for a male character changes the line to “His hair…” so it is obviously meant to be directed at the player, not Taimi.

I don’t know about any of you, but I’ve often heard that term being used to describe someone who is on edge/scared…

I guess since Rox said it, this could be a charr phrase – but wouldn’t charr use “fur” instead?

Also, like someone above said, you could be dying to the cold. You don’t get a visible death animation, just ported back to the start.

Why can't we do events together?

Tarral.5862

Would be nice to at least play the bell choir together

Or be in the same jumping puzzle instance. By pure chance I was in with a guildmate the first night, and it made it more fun to jump together, laugh at each other’s misses, encourage each other past hard sections, cheer when one of us made it to the end…

And an easy solution to worrying about “stacking” a team of an activity like Snowball Mayhem – if players are partied together, they can be in the same game but might end up on different teams. So you are still able to play with friends, but you might actually be playing against them, too. Still more fun than just random strangers in the game.

I just really, really wish ArenaNet would let us do these types of things with our friends. I don’t have a lot of time to play, and when I do I want to play with my friends, but I also want to experience the holiday content, too. No good reason I can’t do both at the same time!

One small crafting suggestion

in Suggestions

Posted by: Tarral.5862

Tarral.5862

When looking at a crafting recipe, it would be nice if there was a way to double click on an item needed that would take you directly to the crafting pane for that item if you can craft it.

For example, if I need to make Deldrimor steel ingots, but realize I am low on Steel ingots, I should be able to double click on the Steel ingot item within the Deldrimor steel recipe and get taken directly to the recipe to make Steel ingots.

This would be even more useful in Cooking, with all the recipes that rely on other recipes, which might even rely on more recipes!

Queen Jennah's a mesmer?

in Queen's Jubilee

Tarral.5862

Doesn’t this at all strike you? A Queen who’s profession consists of the art of illusion? Maybe that’s why Thackeray is all over her xD

That is actually one theory about that relationship…

From the GW2wiki: “This was where Logan first met Queen Jennah and made a pledge to serve as her champion, being enthralled by her beauty. If ever Jennah was to find herself in danger, their magical bond would allow Jennah to call Logan to her aid.”

Seems a lot like she has some sort of magically influence (if not more) over him.

Evon/Kiel button icon over my shoulder

Tarral.5862

The Evon/Kiel icon that floats over my shoulder is quite annoying. While I get the whole “show your support” idea, I thought doing the activities and turning in tokens would account for showing my support. I don’t mind having the buff on me to complete achievements, but that little floating icon is like an ever-present angel (or devil) whispering in my ear.

Even worse is that there’s no way to turn it off for an hour after using the token. (If there is a way to turn off buffs, please tell me how!)

Mesmer in Dynamic Events

Tarral.5862

Your weapon choice can often make a big difference in this. If the DE involves a lot of mobs, you will want more aoe abilities, so use staff (or sword and pistol or focus if you feel comfortable in melee). You won’t do as much damage, but you will hit more mobs and give more support to any other players at the DE. It is also a good idea to swap targets often, to be sure you are hitting as many enemies as possible.

If there is one main boss, greatsword is probably your best option to deal damage, and remember you deal more damage farther away with GS.

Mesmers tend to feel weak in the leveling process until probably about level 30/40ish so if you are still little, stick with it and it will get better!

Welcome back to the game! From what I’ve experienced, there are plenty of friendly players (and if course some not-so-friendly ones, too.) You just have to find the right group for you, and the best way is to play, talk to others you encounter along the way, and stay friendly yourself! For example, our most recent addition to our little guild is someone we happened to pick up to run a dungeon, and he immediately got along all of us and has a similar play-style to us. But we never would have known this if he had stayed silent the whole time!

Color blind, need help with rox's quiver

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Tarral.5862

Tarral.5862

Are you looking for something that will match the color of the quiver like they are made of the same materials, or something that looks good with it and doesn’t clash?

It would also help to see your character, as a color that might look great on my blue sylvari could look horrid on you, and vice versa.

In general, if you sort your dyes by hue, I would suggest staying away from most of the yellows and oranges. Greys, browns, blues, purples and reds would work best imo, especially the darker ones.
