Female Light Armor Leggings -- All skirts?

Actually, this is a complaint my sister has. She absolutely hates having the huge bustle at the back when she wears anything resembling a skirt, but has a hell of a time finding any piece of armour for her mesmer which isn’t a skirt. When she used to wear town clothes, she liked the cut-off pants because it meant not wearing a skirt (though that’s now out of the equation, she refuses to use town clothes potions).

I think my biggest beef with the new system involving town clothes and costumes is that it took away choice, rather than giving choice. The armour system, I have almost no beef with. I like that it made it quick and easy for me to tailor the armour for my characters to suit my particular desires. Each now has a specific look I’m comfortable with. If I had one complaint on that, it would be that if you want to do multiple looks, it requires you to use a whole lot of transmutation charges, and that is annoying. (I still think ‘one charge unlocks one specific skin for the particular armour you’re wearing, so you can swap between those specific skins for free).

No, my beef is with town clothes and costumes. I don’t see why costumes had to be kept as something separate, and went from pieces you could customize, to a single lump which has to be dyed as a whole. That limited choices – why couldn’t they have been put into the armour section, and require no charges? Or why not have them have their own section, and require no charges, and be left customizable? They could have been done the exact same way as armour, and not require charges, and it would have been fine. Town clothing could have been part and parcel of that.

Seriously. One panel for town clothes and costumes. If you go into the panel, you see slots for every armour space., with a little [ ] by the piece, so you can add or remove it (like helmet, gloves, and shoulders currently are in armour). Each would have the dye allowance, just like armour. None would require charges, so you could swap between them as you see fit. The idea is to provide players with more options, and the ability to customize more, rather than less.

In fact, I’m pretty sure players would be overjoyed if this was how it was implemented, since then they could combine costume pieces with their armour. It would provide players with even more means to tailor what they’ve got, allowing them to mix and match armour, clothing, and costumes for aesthetic reasons.

The current system surprised me, because it actually detracted from the game, rather than adding to it. As I said – the armour system is sublime (though not perfect), the clothing and costume system is… unfortunately… not.

Personally, I would prefer if there was a panel for town clothes / costumes, which is kept separate from armour. Then, you could mix and match costume and town clothes, and dye the individual sections. If it also remembered the colours you put into these things, it would be nice too.

I had noticed that if you select a costume and dye it, move to another costume, then go back to the first one, it forgets the dye. That… is really frustrating, actually.

Added to my list of disappointments: the costumes are now fixed and ‘one set’, and cannot be died piece by piece. Instead, the entire costume has four dye slots, which change the look from head to toe. :\ It does make dying relatively quick, but I’m not sure I’d consider that an improvement.

Don’t get me wrong – I’m happy with the other changes made – my characters look pretty awesome now, since I’ve been able to tweak their armour using all the skins I’ve unlocked and the dyes. It’s costumes and town clothing which is disappointing.

Honestly, I would rather not ask for a refund. While it may be in my best interests to ask for gem refunds concerning town clothing, I would really rather see town clothes get their own panel, and otherwise act like armour skins – just without the transmutation cost. I think that would clean everything up, and perhaps make a lot of people happier. (Beyond that, I’m actually reasonably happy with the changes)

Not happy about getting shafted on at least 100 gold on dyes, i have dropped real dollars on gems and yesterday i get 271 unidentified dyes that sell for 22 silver ATM REALLY? Time to reevaluate why i play this game. Murphy s law applies here if its not broke don’t fix it Peace Out!

22 silver a dye’s not too bad, actually. That’s more than the average cost per dye.

My thoughts on the matter were posted here

tl;dr: I really think that a panel should be made for towns clothes, so people can mix, match, and dye. I also think that a given piece of armour should only charge a transmutation charge once per skin applied to it, so people can go back and forth between skins they’ve chosen and paid for (on that armour piece) without being charged multiple times for the same skins. If they select a different piece of armour, or get a new piece, then they have to pay for the selected skins they want for it.

Basically, allow players a greater degree of customization without having to pay gobs of transmutation charges for the same suit of armour.

So, my sister and I have taken a look at what has been done with the update. We’ve discussed this at length, and have some thoughts, and suggestions. ArenaNet’s done a lot of good things with this update, so I felt it was best not to be upset. But, anyway, here’s our thoughts.

The outfit dyes? Not a good idea. My sister had a civilian outfit she wore more times than not when she was running around in a non-combat area. (Glasses + Blossom Top + Khaki Pants + Riding Boots + Witch Gloves). These were all dyed to her specifications. Me, I went for dress pants, a purchased shirt, and kept things simple, but dyed them. Neither of these outfits are possible now in this update. Honestly, this is pretty upsetting.

With the layout currently for weapon and armour skins, I don’t see why civilian clothing can’t be used the same way. Have a civilian wardrobe tab, and let the players put things into these tabs (as owned skins), which they can then select to wear on the character. It would free up inventory space (which these potions do not), and would allow players to mix and match the different parts of a costume, then dye them to their heart’s content.

The current update has freed up a lot of inventory and bank space (no more needing to store three different suits of armour just for the skins) – I think doing something similar specifically for ‘civilian wardrobe’ wouldn’t hurt at all.

As an aside – the one thing that’s perhaps a bit upsetting about the armour skins is if you want to make more than one ‘outfit’ for different occasions. Spending 6 transmutation charges just to look a little different is… let’s say “annoying”. I think it might be… kinder… to say if you’ve spent a transmutation on a skin for your current armour, you don’t need to spend again to return to that skin.

So, for example, if I have a Winged chest piece, and I spend a transmutation stone to access light zodiac. for the chest piece, I can swap between winged and zodiac for that piece of armour without spending a transmutation charge. If I get an armour upgrade (or just a different piece of armour), I’d have to spend the transmutation charges to access winged and zodiac for that specific piece – but to revert to the base skin that particular piece had would be free, and once I’ve paid, I could use those three skins without using charges again.

It would allow people to have the skins available, but be allowed to switch through different looks for special occasions without blowing through a bunch of charges.

Anyway – thank you for your hard work. I hope these suggestions might help in the future.

Personally? I wish they dropped more often. I do buy them from time to time – usually in large sets, then go to town on the stack of BL chests our guild has. I’ve gotten rare minis, dyes, and scraps galore, so I don’t mind too much. I figure, if someone doesn’t like it, they won’t buy it. Nobody’s holding a shotgun to their head and forcing them to buy, and it isn’t like anything in the chests are a game changer.

shrugs I guess I’m just an optimist. The new dye system? I want. The new skin system? I want – and never expected. The open traits? I’m cool with this. I’m not looking at it from ‘how long did I have to wait?’, or ’they’re dumbing it down’ or anything like that.

What I paid for was GW2 out of the box. Anything they add to it afterwards, I see as a bonus. I’ve played the hell out of GW2 – I got my money’s worth. Anything they put into the store that I’m interested in? I’ll purchase. I consider the money I put in as adding to my game, or as a ‘thank you’ for any additional content they put in.

I purchased GW2 because of what I saw on the beta. Anything beyond that is icing. The game in beta was enough to warrant my purchase, and I don’t feel like they’re obligated to give me anything else – but I’m grateful they do.

Actually, I didn’t mind being second to Traherne in GW2. It made sense from a logistics perspective. He’s busy handling all the logistics and planning and all the overhead involved with running an organization. You’re sent on the active missions and have time to fight the good fight. Does he take some of the glory? Sure. But then, he should, as well. You’re given glory as well, since you were a big part of the battles involved, and credit was given where it was due every step of the way.

Seriously, in any organization which has a command structure, it’s always better to be the second in command, rather than the first. You’re given much more leeway, and it makes sense the way they played it out.

And on top of that, why shouldn’t NPCs get a story arc as part of the bargain? That usually makes said NPCs more interesting. They have lives outside of that of the main character.

Personal Stories - 2014 (Begins?)

Actually, the way I want to see it is this:
1) Personal Story Arc
2) Living Story moves the timeline forward.
3) Personal Story Arc 2 (based on initial choices which haven’t been used, and choices that have been made from PSA1)
4) Living Story 2, moving the timeline forward again.
5) PSA 3, based on choices which haven’t been used yet from PSA 1 and 2.

Now, admittedly, there’s a limit. You can’t keep making more and more branches, you’ll need to bottleneck some things, but that’s fine. Basically, for human (as example), the god who blessed your birth plays a role at some point. If you’re Order of Whispers, you may have to deal with Cadaceus at some point. Perhaps if you had to fight the White Mantle, you get another encounter with them down the line.

I’d really like to see that – your personal stories expanded on at least a little, and the timeline moved forward for the entire MMO as well. The only problem I see with that, though, is if the timeline goes too far forward, then new players coming in to do the PSA1 may find their information… a little dated.

I want open-world to be end game content: challenging fights that require skill (not number stats), events that require group/guild coordination, different events depending on time of day, automatic grouping and un-grouping with people doing events with you (so you can see health and status effects), etc.

I think you nailed the ‘you can’t please everyone’ point. I don’t mind the odd ‘group event’, but overall, I want a game that a casual player can get through by himself. I don’t want to have to team up with a bunch of people to get through the game. I want to be able to explore the region, enjoy it, and not have to worry about being slaughtered because I’m not a ‘serious’ player. I’ve not beat The Sunless since he got amped. I’ve ignored the giant doom plants. The amount of effort needed to beat those makes them uninteresting. I like the Shadow Behemoth. I like the Shatterer. Jormag’s champion is borderline for me – it is almost too much work for what I get, but I’ll do it from time to time, but my interest in it is minimal. The Shatterer, I’m willing to jump to when I hear it’s up (though I kind of wish he were a bit more mobile … like he’d turn one way or the other to face the clustered groups).

Day/Night based events? That, I like. (The White Woman in Queensdale is a good example). But no, I’d really rather not be forced into groups to get through the game. I don’t mind the odd, incidental get together, but I’m not interested in mandatory get togethers.

Unmitigated Praise for ANet

Tashiro Kurosawa.7481

So far, I’m enjoying the posts about the upcoming patches and release in April. I just wanted to take the time to say thank you to ArenaNet for their hard work, and point out what I’m thankful for.

1) Thanks for keeping Guild Wars 1 going. I don’t log in too often, but I’m glad it is there, so I can take the time once in a while to log in and walk around. You didn’t have to keep it going, but you did, and for that, thank you.

2) Thank you for the Living Story. It was a grand experiment, and while it was not perfect, I enjoyed a lot of it, and I’m looking forward to seeing what you have planned in the future. I know some people are asking for an expansion, I’m one of them as well, but the Living Story was a nice switch and added something to the game which I was able to get involved with.

2a) Thank you, by the way, for adding accomplishments for the Living Story to our Dailies. At the beginning of the Living Stories, it felt too much like trying to get the meta achievement was a bit of a slog, but by adding them to Dailies, and adding them in such a way that anyone could accomplish them, I felt like I was accomplishing things, and got to be a part of the Living Story. Much appreciated.

2b) As an aside, thank you for making Dailies be ‘choose your own adventure’. I originally ignored Dailies because it required things I had no interest in. When you opened it up for people to choose what Dailies to do, I had much more fun, and have taken the time (sometimes) to do 6-7 Dailies instead of the required 5. Good job there.

3) Thank you for looking ahead. I’m quite happy about the dyes being account-wide rather than character specific. This is something I’d hoped you would do for quite some time, and finally getting the chance to see this makes me smile. I’ve been trying to get every colour onto my character, and this will make my job much easier. For my family members who also play, this is going to be a tremendous boon.

4) Thank you for making armour and weapon skins account wide. I had not even thought of this as a possibility, but that is something I’m really looking forward to. It is going to be nice to try out new combinations and seeing what they look like without having to scroll through the Black Lion Store, and having the chance to see how my character will look in a variety of outfits is nice.

4a) Thank you for making outfits a part of armour. Some costumes are quite fun to wear, and being able to run around in PvE in these outfits is going to be a blast. This was unexpected, but quite welcomed.

5) Thank you for unlocking traits. I’ve not bothered to look at different builds simply because I didn’t want to pay to get my traits unlocked. If I changed the equipment I used for the character, I just accepted that my traits would not necessarily ‘match’ the type of build I’d be using. This will give me the opportunity to try out new designs, and see what best suits the style of play I’m currently going for. Much appreciated!

6) Unbinding gear. I hadn’t expected to see high-end equipment become account bound, but I’m quite happy that this will be a thing. Admittedly, I don’t have a lot of ascended equipment, but those I do have, it will be nice to see them be able to be passed around, even if it has been used.

7) Thank you for adding the ability to see when guild members have last logged in. This is something I’ve wanted for quite some time. I can finally see which guild members to remove.

Overall – you guys have been awesome. I’m looking forward to seeing what you have in store for us in the future.

You still need to run over and get your armour repaired. Just won’t cost anything. As for Waypoints? I don’t mind the cost. A silver here, a silver there, that’s fine. I feel there’s perhaps too many waypoints – I’d rather they were inside towns or cities, and not scattered across the countryside.

Really, I don’t see the cost to use waypoints as a serious issue – and if you know how to ‘shortcut’ waypoints, the costs are even less if a problem. Waypoint to the front of your closest city (cheap) – walk in, waypoint to the asura gates (free), gate to the area closest to your allies (free), waypoint to the edge of that city (free), walk out, then waypoint to your friends (cheap). That will usually reduce the cost of using the waypoints by roughly half.

Personally, everything they’ve mentioned, I like.
1) Consolidated dyes? Yes, please. Account wide? Nice.
2) Consolidated skins? Unexpected, but I like it. Account wide? Awesome.
3) Removing armour repair costs? Sure, I like that.
4) Unlocking traits so you can modify your build anywhere? Perfect.

All of this is stuff I’m liking. Hell, friends who prefer WoW and TOR have said that the new things being added to GW2 is fairly bold – the other MMOs aren’t even touching the idea of ‘shared skins’ and ‘shared dyes’. Sure, this isn’t going to benefit EVERYONE, but it doesn’t have to, either. Overall, I’m finding this patch to be quite pleasant.

When I saw Taimi originally, I thought ‘cute’. When I saw her at the Edge of the Mists and heard about her condition, I was blown away – and very impressed. I was amazed and pleased that ArenaNet had made Taimi, and she’s now one of my favourite characters in the new ‘signature group’.

I have a condition as well, and I often see it shown in TV shows and movies in a way that is highly insulting and demeaning – played for laughs or treated as a gimmick. I doubt I’ll ever see it in GW2 (or, perhaps, I am a bit scared if it does show up), but that they introduced Taimi in such a … perfect… fashion… says a lot about ArenaNet.

Flamekissed Armor Not in Gemstore

Posted by: Tashiro Kurosawa.7481

Tashiro Kurosawa.7481

I don’t see any cultural armour as protected indefinitely – if the armour suits some plan that they have, sure, why not? It costs 600-800 gems to get, or it costs 100 gold. If ArenaNet wants to use some armour for a new skin, I think they’re fully within their rights to do it, and if I don’t like the reskin, I simply won’t buy it. For example, the medium armour? Not the right style for my character, so I won’t buy it – I haven’t purchased any of the armours in the gem store for my character. (Though I think my sister purchased two for her warrior, and two for her mesmer… she’s like that). It’s only a ‘quick cash grab’ if someone actually buys it – and if they buy it, hey – that’s their decision. Their money.

As for entitlement – yes, I think I used it correctly. Or, to put it a different way – ArenaNet has the right to make whatever decisions they make. We, as players, do NOT have the right to dictate what they can and cannot do with their game. If we don’t like it, we have two choices: 1) Don’t give them money for the choices they’ve made, or 2) Don’t play. Is a suit of clothing worth not playing? I don’t think so. Is it worth not giving them money for it? Certainly. It doesn’t ‘break’ the game in any way, shape, or form. That ArenaNet actually took it out of the store to change speaks volumes about them as a company (in a positive way), but that they felt that had to, in my mind, speaks volumes about certain people who are playing the game (in a negative way).

If I had to complain, it would be that pretty much every outfit and every armour to come out of the gem store is humanocentric. I can think of, specifically, one armour that isn’t – it’s norn. I’d love to see sylvari, or asuran, or charr, but it really hasn’t happened yet. However, I also don’t see it as my place to complain profusely to ArenaNet about it, or get angry about it. I figure, they’ll do it when they’ll do it, and I’m willing to wait. This flame set isn’t my thing, and I’m more than willing to just let it go by, and wait for a new set.

I really don’t see the cultural armour as a ‘protected’ class. They may even phase them out some time, and replace them with new ones, who knows? I just really think that the outrage over this was completely unnecessary.

Personally, I didn’t mind the flamekissed skin. My sister is actually really disappointed that it got taken out, she was planning on getting it at the end of the week. :\ Sure, so what if it was a reskinned and updated cultural armour? Nobody was twisting any arms to force people to buy it – if you liked it, you could get it. If you didn’t? Don’t buy it.

Seriously, I think some people have an overdeveloped sense of entitlement. The light (and the heavy, actually) were visually stunning, I really liked them. I wasn’t going to get them, since they didn’t suit my ‘theme’, but my sister was all over the light armour, and looking forward to picking it up as somewhat of a Christmas gift for herself. Ah well.

Collaborative Development Topic- Living World

in CDI

Posted by: Tashiro Kurosawa.7481

Tashiro Kurosawa.7481

I like the concept behind the living story, and I like the plot you have so far with the living story, but it doesn’t really seem compatible with casual play. I wound up missing the last bit with Scarlet because the dungeon was geared to a 5-man group, and it was a pain in the rump just trying to get a group together.

I really think that the dungeons and private instances for living stories should be akin to personal stories. If you’re alone, you can take it on, and it might be a little difficult, and if you’re with a group, it will be scaled up to handle the group. This way, someone who doesn’t have access to a group can still solo it, but someone who wants to experience it with friends can.

The other thing is, while some of the personal story dungeons have been interesting, some of them have been frustratingly hard too. It’s a little discouraging when to see the end of a living story arc you need to get your hands on some really skilled players, or that there’s a ‘trick’ to getting it done. (Case in point, the entire mine / bomb thing from Southsun Cove, the Asura Aetherpirate lair with the rotating lasers around a central column). Don’t get me wrong – they’re interesting concepts, but for the more casual player these are lessons in frustration, and means missed opportunities to take part in the living story.

I just feel that the living story should be inclusive, not exclusive. For some of the more nifty prizes for taking part, I can accept ‘go out and take part’ as being a prerequisite, but having there be a skill based barrier to being involved, I think, is a bit much. The previous dungeon with Scarlet (involved with the Queen’s celebration), I think was almost perfect – it allowed you to get involved, and while the final fight with Scarlet was a bit difficult for some players, it wasn’t really a barrier to getting to see the end of that arc.

Thank you for your time.

The Top 10 Things GW2 Needs to Improve.

in Suggestions

Posted by: Tashiro Kurosawa.7481

Tashiro Kurosawa.7481

8) Magic Find: I personally have no problem with people using magic find boosts in their build. There’s no perfect ‘right way’ to create your build, and the person who uses MF is making a conscious decision to limit themselves while playing. I’m perfectly fine with this – I have no right to dictate to someone else how to build or run their character, and if they want to dip some of their benefits to increase the chance of getting rarer drops, that’s their perogative.

7) Personal Story: I would like to see the personal story expanded on / continued. It would be great to see all the choices I made through the personal story and at character creation brought into play, and I’m optimistic that ArenaNet will add more over time. I’d love to have the option of joining the Seraphs or the Shining Blade with my character, or find out what happens from saying I was blessed by Dwayna.

Other: Grinding
My sister recently found out she’d have to do a dungeon at least 25 times to get an outfit she’s after. She’s only interested in the story mode of dungeons, as part of her personal story, she’s got no interest in grinding through it in exploration mode. Origianlly, we were under the impression you got one piece of armour each time you went through. Six times to get a set? Certainly, that takes a bit of work, and a bit of time, but that’s not too bad. But tipping over the 20 mark? That’s a bit… extreme. I think it would be nice if you were able to get top level things from exploring the game and seeing what the world has to offer – not grinding something repetitively and fixating on one specific aspect of the game. “Do this jumping puzzle 20 times, and you’ll get something good” would be a pain in the rump. Doing a 30-40 minute dungeon 25 times (or more if you’re unlucky) is horrific. I’ll admit, the fractals look cool, having only tried them out recently, but finding out that I actually have to grind fractals to get certain things? Seriously?

Other: Mounts
I really have trouble with the idea of mounts. Okay, admittedly it might be interesting to have something to race across the landscape with, but the thing that comes to mind quickly is that the amount of effort that would have to go into these would not be worth it – either from a design standpoint or from a game standpoint. First – there’s coming up with race-dependant mounts: What do the charr get? What do the sylvari get? What do the asura get? And norn? Second, animating these things, and then making them practical. Sure, you could use one to get from Point A to Point B, but is that seriously all you want from a mount? If a charr gets a combat bike, you know it would be designed with offence in mind. Having a human on horseback to travel might be interesting, but then I’d want to see mounted combat. What does it provide you when you’re attacking centaurs, and what about mounted weaponry? (Lance / spears come to mind, horse bows, guns…)

Next of course, what does it take to get one? If you say ‘grinding’, then forget about it. Honestly, anything a dedicated player has, a casual player should be able to get too. The only difference is that a dedicated player should have more of it. If someone hates jumping puzzles, they shouldn’t have to hit every single jumping puzzle multiple times to get a piece of candy (thankfully, there’s no need to do jumping puzzles until you’re blue in the face). Nobody should be forced to do dungeon crawls a score of times or more to get armour. Six times for a full set made sense, way back when they were talking about the game originally. That’s enough that people who hate dungeons could grit their teeth and slog through it to get the armour. Fractals are interesting, but I don’t see myself wanting to do the same fractals 6, 12, 18, 24 times to get ‘stuff’. That’s a huge investment in time I don’t have.

Other: Evil
Guess what? In Guild Wars 2 you’re playing a big kitten hero. You knew this when you signed up for the game. If you don’t want to play the big kitten hero, I’m certain there’s other games where you can be morally compromised. That’s like joining a D&D game, knowing the GM said ‘no evil alignments’, then getting ticked when he says no to your evil character. If you knew this going in, why are you complaining about it now that the campaign / story’s enforcing it? I get it, some people get their rocks off being the bad guys, but not everything has to allow you that option.

I’m almost done the current personal story for human, but there’s one thing I sort of regret. At no point was I able to choose sides between the three orders of humanity – the Seraphs, the Shining Blade, and the Ministry Guard. It would be really awesome to at some point say ’I’m a member of the Shining Blade’, for example. The other bit of personal story I’d like to see involves the six gods. You select a god for your character, but I’ve not seen anything really related to that decision. A personal story involving your choice of gods, and how that god interacts with you.

I’m certain there’s other races which also have such unfinished business – the different times of day for the sylvari don’t seem to differentiate much in your personal story that I’ve seen – I’ve just reached the point where I need to start doing missions for the different orders, and I seem to have completely slipped past that part. I’m sure the norn, asura, and charr have much the same thing.

Will we be seeing a deeper personal story crop up in the future?

Bunny Ears FTW! .... but not transmutable :(

That would be kind of adorable, actually.

Been enjoying GW2 immensely, but have a few suggestions specifically for the game.

Transmutation Stones
It would be nice if transmutation stones worked on more than weapons and armour. Accessories and Bags would be a nice addition. For example, if I pick up Mona’s Ring during a dynamic event, it would be nice if I could use a transmutation stone to be able to convert a level 80 ring to look like her ring. It is already character-locked, so there wouldn’t be any harm in doing this.

Bags are another example. I have a Trick or Treat bag, 10 slots. I would like to be able to upgrade it to a 15 or 20 slot bag. If such bags could work with transmutation stones, it would be appreciated.

Unbreakable Carol Bell
Thanks for this! My sister loves using it, though the ‘lag’ in ringing notes is a bit bothersome. That’s not the suggestion though – she’s noticed that if she pauses for very long, she tries to ‘sheath’ the bell, which pulls her out of her town clothes and puts her back into her armour and weapons. The suggestion is to let a person ‘sheath’ the carol bell, so they can remain in town clothes.

Weapons Dye
I know this has probably been mentioned a lot – but please allow weapons and shields to by dyed as well?

Thank you for your time!

I’m guild leader for the Scions of Arion (ARIN). It seems that our guild can not gain access to the guild vault, guild weapons, or guild armour inside Divinity’s Reach, but we are capable of getting access in other locations. Just a weird little bug I thought I’d share.
