Dragonhunter Feedback

The Dyemaster.3089

I’m mostly a pve player, and my initial impression is that I like dragonhunter. The bow provides a nice change from guardian’s previous weapons, which frankly I was not good at. The traits seem to provide a decent alternative to what currently exists as well. Took it to Southsun and was able to solo veterans pretty easily. Even took down a champ with one other person. Never could have on my GS guardian.

Overall, I think it did a good job of creating a “keep your distance” style of play against tough enemies. Back away while setting traps, crippling, immobilizing, etc. I’ll have to try it in other areas, but so far it seems pretty balanced.

Chronomancer Feedback Thread

Chronomancer seems like 3 different playstyles trying to crowd one another out. The trait line has the shatter stuff, which is stupidly good and allows spamming. The weapon has blocking and position based mechanics which mean lots of movement and keeping track of the flow of the battle. The wells are slower and require planning and combo mechanics, and are more of an aoe/support style.

And all that’s fine. Multiple playstyles are good.

What bothers me is the trait line. The trait line is REQUIRED, and I don’t feel that it supports the other two playstyles enough.

The movement speed helps with the shield playstyle a bit. The trait that adds condition removal to the END of wells is underwhelming. The shattering mechanics blow them out of the water, and if you want to use the wells you’re stuck with a trait line that doesn’t adequately support your playstyle.

This is only my opinion based on initial gameplay, and I could be wrong. But if I’m using wells to set up aoe and combos or darting around using my weapon skills, I’m probably going to keep my phantasms around instead of shattering them. And there isn’t much trait support for that.

Unique Weapon Suggestion

Well, never mind then. Just thought it would be a way to make weapon drops a bit more interesting and build off of the trait unlocking system they implemented recently.

Unique Weapon Suggestion

Can’t find a place for suggestions, so I’ll post it here.

Just to add a bit more excitement to drops beyond skins, I think it would be interesting if there were weapons with unique effects in addition to their stats. The way I would propose that they work is that the effect would only be applicable in PvE and that the ability must be unlocked by using the weapon to accomplish some goal.

For instance, a weapon that has a 10% inherent bonus against dredge, but to unlock it the player must use the weapon to kill 100 dredge. This would make it so that the player can’t unlock the ability before selling it on the TP. It might also increase traffic in specific areas, if they have to complete a dungeon with the weapon to unlock the ability or something similar.

Just a thought.

Staff in PvE?

If you’re worried about being branded a noob, then yeah, there aren’t any builds that I know of. The thing is, I’m a pure staff in pve player. I do it because it fits my playstyle and I have fun with it, and screw what anyone else thinks. I currently run a 4/0/6/0/4 build that uses dire stats and runes of the undead, so I add about 17% of my toughness as condition damage and confusion-shatter often. The build has insane survivability and I can reliably distract dungeon bosses while my teammates rez. So while my dps is low, I still serve a useful purpose as long as they aren’t trying to speed run.

In my experience, GW2 is a lot about playstyle. When I tried using GS or Sw/F or any of the other weapon sets, I did worse. So this is what I go with.

Yeah, I dc to the character select screen and then can immediately reload a character and play. The time frame is between around 15 seconds and up to spans of 20 minutes. Only happened to me recently. About the time of the last patch.

Good point. I don’t swap very often, so I hadn’t thought of that.

1. Mainly because I like PvE only skills. They let the developers do fun things that wouldn’t work in PvP.

2. The account-wide tracking is an issue I had considered. Personally, I’d like some achievements to track based on character rather than account. Like what they did with map completion. Kind of incorporated into the suggestion, I just didn’t articulate it well. They could alternatively be unlocked account wide, limited by the profession’s weapon set. I’d be happy either way.

3. As for the nature of playstyles, it’s true that making the skills profession specific would add more depth and flavor, but it would be possible to have generally useful skills. Tying them to weapons already limits the professions, and the developers have already done cross-profession skills in the form of racial skills. So it could be done either way.

Just an idea I had. For each of the weapon master achievements, create a PvE only utility skill. When a character reaches the max rank in that achievement, they unlock that weapon specific utility skill on that character. So a staff user who gets 5000 kills with a staff gets a PvE only utility skill that only works when you have a staff equipped.

I just feel that this would be a neat way to reward people beyond achievement points. It would both reward those who prefer a specific weapon and provide incentive to use other weapon sets to collect all the skills. The idea of achievements unlocking PvE only skills is something I could really get behind, since it provides an additional level of character customization.

Rainbow Jellyfish

That was one of the main disappointments (if not THE main disappointment) I had when GW2 was released. Even before the game was out, I was planning on using a ranger with a rainbow jelly as my main. Then the game released, and it was a normal jellyfish. I was so sad…
