right around that date the OP posted i started getting really poor match ups as well as really long que times. i think the match making system will start to pull players from well below your rank or even tier if there is no one to play with. might be a cause of some frustration as one terrible player from gold will pretty much cause a loss in mid plat every time.

I’d +1 to kill the bunker at home, and let the two tryhard go 4v3 mid.

Just get used to getting yelled at on thief….even if you make the right choice…. people will still yell at you. You will get yelled at by people who know what they are doing, you will get yelled at by people who think they know what they are doing and you will get yelled at by people who have no idea what they are doing.

lol yeah your right about that for sure. my main problem with this is the point was ours. so i feel like one of ours should have just left the tanky-er one of our team to stay and defend the point then head to mid to create a 4v3 in our favor. so heading to a point that was ours to be a +2 with the goal of killing an incredibly tanky ranger just didnt make sense to me. i can see now though what my real problem is, ive been rotating based on the optimal team rotations rather than taking my teams bad decisions into account and playing around them. thanks for the comments guys.

i agree with the above 3 comments. lower tier enemys provide lower tier rewards. its a long climb out of gold. good luck.

Elite Specs Required for Weapon Usage?

To me, that essentially negates the meaning of having to make a choice between core and elite specs.

honestly i dont believe there is a choice, its either take the elite or your not competitive. i think its a cool idea the OP has, and the game needs some more diversity of builds. elite specs are trying to solve this problem. but the core traitlines suffer for it. Anet’s attempts at solving this issue have not produced the desired end result thus far. Elite specs are still better than playing a core profession at the limit. if you need proof just look at the top tier players in the game across all regions. not one of them plays a core build during competitions.

so i played a match that i just didnt quite know where to rotate and was hoping people could help me out with some advice. i play s/d thief with alot of boon rip and unblockables in mid plat. Heres my situation:

i have two of my team mates at home trying to kill a bunker ranger thats on our point,

i have two of my team mates outnumbered by 3 of the enemy at mid in a slowly losing fight

and i have a counter build/class at far which is a possible win as i beat them early in a 1v1 but would take quite a while meaning id get +1’d by the people rotating out of mid after they won the fight.

i choose to team fight mid, and got called out for my teamfighting being the reason we lost. i only died once this match and got top offense only. what would you do as a thief and why?

Tickery’s dominance isn’t because of the 3 initiative. If trickery only had the 3 initative trait it would never be taken.

Tickery is always taken because of how good Slight of Hand, Thrill of the Crime, and Bountiful theft are, on top of having Preparedness.

Tickery’s major and minor traits are better than every other core thief traitlines put together.

I wasnt really speaking to the traits. i think you have a point that the major and minor traits are great, and thats why most people take that line. but in my case i think one of the reasons i dont try a different line like crit strikes is because i lose the initiative. i honeslty think that people would at least give chance to other lines if you didnt lose a huge portion of your ability to use any weapon skill. but all that aside i my main complaint is that trickery is so must have for ANY reason whether thats the major/minor traits, the extra initiative, or the reduction in steal time. it really doesnt matter what the reason is. the point is you MUST have it to have a competitive build. id really like to see some things made baseline and have trickery focus on “tricks” and synergizing with the utility skills etc. im not trying to suggest a fix really just trying to point out what i think is a problem.

they seriously have a point about thief’s trickery line and the requirement for the initiative. its gotten to the point where if your not running dare devil, deadly arts, and trickery your not competitive whether your building for condi OR damage. im sure there are these same issues with other classes.

please fix the match making to not put two (or more!) thieves together. getting into an argument about switching to another class every other match just makes the game less enjoyable to play. id rather wait in a longer que than have to deal with people telling me or another to switch because two thieves are not a viable comp.

You finally made it possible to play other areas of the game while in que, so we can manage a longer que time by doing something else. please use this newly added feature to improve pvp matchmaking for everyone. yes i realize thieves like me will have a longer wait, but 80% of players will appreciate not having 2+ thieves on the team. Its a win for the majority, and i believe it will improve the pvp experience.

Just wanted to say thank you and good job for finally combining servers together to get the population up on wvw maps. been a long time since ive seen a que for every map. Not that im fond of que’s but the new desert BL really shines when there’s ACTUALLY PEOPLE TO PLAY WITH/AGAINST…… good job guys…nice to see something happening with wvw that makes sense. nice edit’s to the layout too. its not a bad map, just a bit too big and glider friendly to have low pop’s and no gliders^^

overall im happy to see some effort put in to my favorite game mode. Thank you.

whats expected of thief

just looking to find out what the community expects from a thief in pvp, regardless of build or map.

some basic stuff like how many kills, on average, a good thief should get per match, average points accrued etc.

from what ive seen its all situational for what makes a good thief good…but what i want to know is what people expect to see as far as numbers.

Well in honest you havent really lost anything with the changes to SA as youve gained the option for minors of a third line. I find trickery is now the must have and more than makes up for the lack of might. Strength runes dont work anymore but thats about the only downfall. Runni g suppliments like mango pies in wvw and shadow protector should help with the sustain thats lost from vhoosing blind on stealth.

Wasnt this disscusion about / d? Please take that p/d argument somewhere else. Im tired of hearing people complain about it. I play D/D, and there is no problem with the way the traits are in my opinion. If you want sustain as a thief D/D is not the weapon set you want. D/D is for damage burst and team kill assist. Youl find yourself more effective if you just spec for max damage, forget the healing in stealth and actually learn to play well. A good thief gets in does damage then gets out.
Oh and btw the “saint” traits arnt a gimmick. Its what makes a thief useful to his team. Its not just about damage. A good thief can pick his team mates up everytime. If your not getting your teamates off the ground your not doing a good job.
