Some Questions Regarding Certain Features

• /lfg:
When using this command today, I was trying to figure out what exactly it was doing. I understand it toggles my status on/off, but does that command put me into the LFG tool or does it show an icon on the friend’s list/in a whisper, that I’m looking for a group?

• [x] Looking For Group (in the chat settings):
When this is checked, does a chat room enable like “Say” or “Map?” If it does enable a chat, there’s no command to talk in it. That said, does it list what groups are looking for?

• Icon above a player’s head:
I’ve noticed different colored (blue or purple) icons above some players heads. Is this a certain buff or…? The shape is usually square/triangle. It doesn’t happen often, either. I’ll see them mostly standing around in Dwayna High Road, with the icon above their head.

Thank you to whomever might answer the above. I don’t play often, so I’m still trying to learn and mess around with the specifics.

Changing Builds in SPvP

Hi, I haven’t played in many months (about six). Quick question, however, regarding a change I couldn’t find. Are we not allowed to change builds in SPvP anymore? You were able to click a drop down menu right where the points are. I’m mostly speaking in terms of Custom/Practice Arena, too.

Another question, while on topic about SPvP. When I exit a match, it takes me to the practice area in the Mists. Has anyone said its a bug or will they revert it, so if we do exit a match, we are sent back to our location and not the Mists?

Thanks for answering these if you do. (:

Why does people say mesmer is bad class?

in Mesmer

Tilah.3041

I play WvW mostly.

I sometimes see people are saying mesmers are the wrost class to play and most trash class. But from what i experienced condi scepter/torch staff PU mesmers are extremely powerful and hard to kill and most of people just dont care about or run from them if u see them in wvw. only weakness is that u wont kill anyone if others decide not to fight or care about u. I know mesmers lack of mobility and prob others but i think PU condi is really strong. what are ur thoughts?

Why bring a Mesmer when I can bring a better profession? That’s the mentality amongst many players nowadays. Mesmer can be considered the worse class in specific departments, but we still have a lot to offer through our utilities. Damage will very on the type of build you’re running.

The reason PU Condi is strong, because you’re able to survive quite well and still putout decent damage through conditions. Damage can be lackluster in group play, or against condition removal builds. It depends on the entire situation, especially with what it can and cannot offer.

Players don’t want to waste their time, since PU wins a majority of fights (1v1, 2v1). I think players want a Mesmer to be squishy, so they feel like they have an advantage. Another reason is mostly skill amongst many builds. You’ll hear many saying, “PU doesn’t take skill.”

PU trait upsets people, when really they need to look at the entire build. They also need to look at our survival within the build and outside the build. To me, PU is a strong build, but there’s better builds from other professions out there. PU may seem easy to play, but there’s other builds that are better, yet easy to manage.

Imho, this build is to cheesy. Its to easy to win with it.

On the contrary this is an incredibly high skillcap build, knowing when to use your downed split, summoning iRogue, stacking confusion with downed ‘1’. While it is undeniably a strong build you can always improve with it.

Meh…Dunno… Most of the time u just lie there downed and enemys melt on your retaliation. Imagine this build in www. U can use downed food there. +100% hp and 20% dmg on top of it. Thats just to op. Mesmer can solo zergs with it.

Isn’t that what everyone is trying to do with their profession?

Tilah.3041

Everyone runs PU because they can’t play mesmer without using a build that carries them.

It seems you’re more frustrated with the actual concept, annoyed with that specific trait or sick of having to deal with stealth in general. Does your opinion apply to other professions? If you come across a build you’re having a hard time with, does that mean the build is carrying that player? Is someone suppose to play a squashy build, so you feel like you have the upper hand? Interesting cognition process you have.

I’m sorry, I meant it’s because “PU is what’s viable and because it’s the only way a mesmer can roam effectively”.

You should pay more attention to the Mesmer forums, and why there’s so much frustration from those players, especially the concerns with bugs and being ignored. I’m sure other profession forums are the same way, depending on what the situation might be.

Tilah Nailed it, you should be supporting you fellow mesmers especially with all of the recent nerfs. Why do you think it’s called World versus World? Nobody likes loosing and believe me all the other players no matter what class will be looking for any edge they can get to win. To bash a trait that gives a light armor class more sustain / survivability in a world filled with Bust and Condition builds is silly. I don’t know about you, but I want my fellow Mesmers to succeed by ANY means necessary regardless of what build or traits they use.

That’s what I was trying to point out. Everyone, whatever they’re playing, will look for an advantage to win. It’s the whole point of having a great build. I’m sure Osicat would agree.

There are many issues with our profession. I’m sure the developers see it too, at least I hope so. One of the biggest problems that I see at hand is succeeding in a group, even if we have utility, we still lack specific structures other professions bring and that’s something we need desperately.

Like many, I’ve put my heart and time into playing the profession. I enjoy testing and playing with the different builds people have created, as well as some of my own. I haven’t put this much time into any other profession, because I can’t. I have fun playing the Mesmer, whether it’s neglected or not.

I’m surviving, but there’s no reason for me to give up, if I’ve come this far with it.

Tilah.3041

Hello kind community,

Today we will talk about s/d thief, the most op and skill less build in this game.
Perma dodge, 8k insta bursts (with air/fire procs) and barely anything that can kill it in a teamfight.
Is this balanced? No it’s not, thief is supposed to be a class with the highest mobility/single target dmg in the game but with low survivability except for stealth, right now it is the class with the highest single target dmg, the highest moblity BUT a very high survivability that is gamebreaking.
Dear anet, I ask you to nerf s/d thief survivability or thief survivability in general. How about rebalance the 2nd minor trait in acrobatics, maybe give it a 5 second cooldown? Maybe nerf initiative, everyone knows initiative is insanely broken since the increase and you now almost always have the initiative that you need. Maybe nerf trickery a bit? It’s not normal that every build requires this trait line, but how will this affect other builds? I don’t want thief to become unviable nor certain builds to get unplayable but s/d thief is atm by far the strongest build in the game and it needs a nerf.

Also I don’t enjoy getting destroyed by them as a mesmer.

- Misha and Shad.

When I first started playing, I had the same reaction. I thought they were overpowered and that it took no skill to play one. With playing more and more games, going up against a handful of different thieves, I’ve come to enjoy dueling with them. I don’t play one at all, but they’ve fragile. It does take some skill to play them, at least from what I see. Timing is everything, too. I have a lot of respect for those who play the Thief class.

There’s a lot I could state about what needs to be adjusted, but it’s been stated many times, by many people, over and over again. The individuals who put their blood, sweat, and tears into this class, know what’s going on. The approach they’ve made can’t be made any clearer, so I only hope the developers soon realize. However, I wont give up on the class. I enjoy it.

How is the PvP Now?

in PvP

Posted by: Tilah.3041

Tilah.3041

I have been DYING for a good PvP game. WoW and League are boring now. I am done with MOAs. Hated Blacklight Retribution, got bored of TF2, Aion wasn’t my thing etc.

I bought this game a long time ago but never even got to the twenties because the atmospere and music seemed somewhat boring and generic to me. The fact that you can use the bread and butter of your abilities before even level 10 makes the game intensely boring for me as well. I want to try this game out again and I think I can bear the boring leveling if the PvP is good. I just want to kill some dudes in a balanced, fun, strategic game.

I don’t mind if gear dictates the winner, as long as the grind isn’t HORRIBLY long and boring. With that said, is this game’s PvP for me and is it worth it?

Is it worth leveling through this game, trying to enjoy it as much as possible for the PvP?

Does this game’s PvP provide fun, balanced, at least somewhat strategic gameplay where it is not about who can spam buttons the best, but who knows how to put them together depending on the situation? Does this game have such depth?

I am absolutely dying for a PvP game and I heard how amazing Guild Wars was, although sadly I never had the chance to play it.

One of the best features of Structured PvP is being able to obtain Tome of Knowledge. It allows you to gain a level, and you can strictly use this method to bypass questing if you only PvP. They’re rewards from the Structured PvP Reward Tracks, which I think you get eight per track. Of course it’s slower compared to questing, but if you’re only wanting to PvP, you can stockpile the tomes. Keep in mind, PvP will scale you up to 80 in WvW and SPvP.

More on the Reward Tracks, you’re able to obtain gear (around your current level), work toward level 80 weapons and armor from a Dungeon Track, and many other items, like crafting materials and Transmutation charges. Also with the Rank system, each rank will give some cool stuff as well. Mostly Karma, Luck, etc. It’s a lot better than how it was before April. A lot less RNG compared to the old PvP Crafting system, but you’re limited by what you’re rewarded and so you’ll have to get a skins from PvE content, if PvP can’t supply it.

The game isn’t about spamming buttons, but more along the lines of how to Control/Damage/Support yourself and/or fellow players. It’s a lot to take in upfront, but I’m sure you’ll catch on. If I had to compare it to WoW’s PvP, GW2 has a quicker pace. It’s some of the best PvP I’ve encountered. The game feels better than it did before the April’s major patch, at least to me it does.

All-in-all, you’ll fall and you’ll succeed, you’ll fall some more and you’ll conquer. It’s easy to perish within a number of seconds, especially against heavy condition or crowd control builds. SPvP only requires skill (sorta), since the only thing between you and your enemy is your or his/her’s build and intelligence. Some builds are over-the-top and easy to engage in, too. Build your character how you want, or find something that’s already built. The build system is great also, once you get use to it.

I know I’m going to get trash talked by other Mesmer players but… Osicat, can you please stop promoting PU builds or similar like these? Where perma protection, near perma regen, heavy stealth, AI (and other stuff I wont even mention, you know you class already) just outclass everything you encounter? Making these junk builds popular is definetly not good for the game as a whole.

Flame away fellas.

Osi isn’t a scrub. He plays to win, as many of us do. This means he uses the best builds he can make, with no regard to what scrubs think is ‘fair’.

I agree with Pyro. Players seek to play the best build, while also taking a risk at times on builds that are under par and still dominate their enemy with them, because they play to win. Why would you not want to get the most out of your character? It’s not an unfair advantage, when everyone is doing it with their class.

I’d still love to hear if someone tested this in spvp and got good results?

I’ve been dabbling with it. It depends on who you’re going up against, and what’s happening during the entire situation. I’ve taken two players down at the same time, while other times are one vs one or group play. The health of players slowly decay at first, then a few seconds later collapse like nothing happened. The build itself is quite strong if played correctly.

Can't Decide On My Profession

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Tilah.3041

Tilah.3041

After reading, watching, and trying out the different professions, I can’t decide on which to consider my main character. What’s really holding me back from grasping a choice, is the role I’ve played in other MMORPGs (ex. EQ, WoW, Rift). I’ve always had a healer as my main priority, and never really changed from that. It’s what I enjoy doing most, even though I understand GW2 doesn’t have that trinity. With that said, hopefully someone can help shed some light.

[Warrior and Thief] – I find them to be boring, yet designed real well. I was never one who liked physical melee dps, since I like flashy stuff.

[Ranger and Necromancer] – I’m not one who enjoys pet management, and the Necromancer doesn’t fit my style.

[Elementalist] – Controlling each elemental is neat, though I don’t care for stance dancing.

[Engineer] – With all it’s gadgets, scares me. It seems daunting I mean, with everything that’s apart of their toolkit.

[Guardian] – It’s a neat profession and at least has some spark apart of their spells, but I’m not sure if I want to create one right now (or make one my main character).

[Mesmer] – I’ve been playing around with this profession the most. I do enjoy it, but it seems it will take awhile before I grasp the concept. It is quite confusing to pickup on.

[Your preferred playstyle and fighting personality.]
- Support mostly, defensive otherwise.

[Do you like to be in the enemy’s face, beating them down with pure power?]
- I never liked being in melee range.

[Or do you prefer cunning and trickery, leaving your opponents on edge and unsure of how to act?]
- Cunning and trickery.

[Do you like physical prowess or magical finesse?]
- Magical Finesse

[Flash or subtlety?]
- Flash

[Agility or resilience?]
- Resilience

[Your gaming experience or comfort level. Are you a beginner to gaming or a veteran?]
- Veteran (ten years).

[How comfortable would you be with varying levels of difficulty?]
- I’m fine with any level of difficulty. I need to give it time.

[What are you looking for in a class? High damage, strong group support, head-spinning speed? What is most important to you?]
- Strong group support.

[What content are you planning to do? PvE or PvP?]
- I’m planning to do both, but mostly PvE when I feel like leveling to 80. For PvP, it’s casual gameplay.

[What roles do you like to take in them? Are you a roamer in PvP or a group fighter?]
- I like group fighting the most.

Glory/sPvP Gear Question

in PvP

Posted by: Tilah.3041

Tilah.3041

I know that the Glory currency was removed and that changes are coming on April 15. The gear that you can craft right now, will these pieces still be obtainable from PvP or those who only PvP will have to PvE to get those gear sets/pieces? It doesn’t matter to me however, since I enjoy both PvP and PvE. I’m only curious to see what will happen. I do like the system that they have now, especially if you only PvP and don’t want to PvE to obtain sets or specific gear pieces.

Couple questions about PvE & PvP?

Tilah.3041

I started playing GW2 once again, and when I did play the game (year ago), I was really lost. However, with the last week and half, the game has been my main focus. I’ve learned a lot, but still soaking the knowledge up and having fun as well. With that said, I have a couple questions regarding specific topics and only want clarification.

1. From reading forum posts, Glory has been removed and there will be a new mechanic in place?

2. Mystic Forge within the Mists: the higher your rank, the better quality of gear unlocks? What I mean is visual looks of gear start to look cooler, since everyone is on the same page.

3. That said, there’s a lot of neat stuff I’ve seen on people. None of that gear is transmuted PvE gear, and none of that gear is carried over?

4. I know you can be any level to enter the Mist, but are there restrictions? Do you have to be level 80 outside PvP to have something unlocked? Or are all the gear you get from Glory vendors available to anyone?

5. I would like to level my character to 80, of course enjoying every step of the way. There no reason to rush 80, since there really isn’t an end-game?

Forgive me for being new (started today). I’m trying to take notes and look over things upfront, rather than the last minute. Like most mmorpgs, there’s a player group cap for whatever you’re running. I know that the dungeons work a lot differently here, but are there caps or can someone solo these without one or two friends?

Does it matter which World I choose?

in Players Helping Players

Tilah.3041

As the topic title states, “Does it matter which World I choose?”

I started playing today and I’m getting use to things upfront, rather than the last minute. One of my biggest concerns is what server to go with and how it impacts a starter character (or secondary character).

To clear some things up, it looks like we get five character slots — not per server, but overall and we can purchase an additional one (+?). With that being said, does it matter which World we decide to choose? For example, If we choose one, will all five characters fall on that specific server or can we have one on a different realm?

If that isn’t the case and we are limited to five character slots, if we choose a World from the listing, do we start in that specific zone or do each race gets there own starter zone, being the same each time like most mmorpgs would have it? With that being said, we can World transfer every seven days or do you have to pay at some point (not that it matters)?

Hopefully someone is kind enough to answer these questions. Thank you.

Aren’t most zones phased? Not sure if that has anything to do with it. The servers seem full to me, judging by the status on the World listing. I saw plenty of people, not much, questing in a starting zone. The game is widespread or people are active all over. However, I’m not sure how that all comes together.
