To be honest, the only DE members I really care about are Caithe and Eir, even if Caithe extends her mentorship to Trahearne at some point in your personal story if you play as a sylvari. That she didn’t explain anything hurt a little but I can understand where she’s coming from. (I must be … the only player who doesn’t care about Rytlock at all. I’m lukewarm about Zojja and I’m completely indifferent about Logan.)
I think Trahearne didn’t deserve the end he got in HoT. It doesn’t make sense to me either. You’d think that since the sword is a part of the Pale Tree that was actually able to cleanse all of Orr (!!!!!! can’t stress this enough) it would also be able to cleanse him – BUT NOT BY KILLING HIM!
Anyway, I hope Anet never gives the opportunity to transform the sword into a greatsword.

But since the topic is about Canach:
I was constantly scared when Canach wandered off alone that he would give in and turn on his allies. But he’s still around. He’s the cactus husbando. I’m glad nothing bad happens to him. Even if you take him along into the final battle, he still stands strong in the end, and that’s great.

Speculation on my part. But I think Zaitain’s “weakness” was Mordremoth’s power. Zaitan was death and so could be cleansed with life. But in the end, that power couldn’t be used to free Trehearne. But doesn’t make me any happier that he is dead. But I think this was Anet’s way to end the Pact and move the story forward with the three Orders being separate again.

Going back to Canach, I was scared too when he was running off. But I am glad they didn’t turn him. After everything the poor salad has gone through since The Lost Shores (way back in 2012), he deserves a chance to have some fun and go on a grand adventure with the PC!

They kill Trahearne…? kitten you Arena.net! kitten you fanbase who got kitten that their commanding officer gets the glory in a made up story!

Yes, unfortunately. T.T But to be fair to Anet. I think killing Trahearne is more about destroying the Pact. So this powerful organisation isn’t around for future dragons then to give the Trahearne haters satisfaction. I am still annoyed. I mean, they could have made it that Trahearne survived but is too weak to do anything and must retire to the Grove. But death is more dramatic I guess. I hope Trahearne gets a statue in the Grove and maybe a plaque at each of the orders!

I am a head start vet so maybe that’s why I feel very attached to Canach. I remember when he first entered the franchise and was as bugged as he is in the final mission now! (Note: I believe he’s been fixed, but I haven’t tried the mission since the latest patch so can’t be certain). But I like him and feel that he’s one of the best written male character the franchise has to offer.

I think one of the strengths and weaknesses of Guild Wars 2’s character development is that the characters are developed over time, and so many people might not get how rich Canach’s history is. But since I have been here from the start, I appreciate him. So I thought I would list all the things I like about him,

1. His voice
2. His sense of humour, even if it is a bit cruel
3. The fact that he was still willing to work with Asura and the Consortium despite what they did to him after he had newly awakened.
4. All the reasons he had to join the Nightmare Court or become a Soundless but choose not to and remained linked to the Pale Tree.
5. His struggles as a second born are very relatable. As is his jealousy of Trehearne – the perfect first born and clearly the Pale Tree’s favourite.
6. His willingness to learn from his mistake. Even when his mistakes were good intentions gone bad.
7. He’s not Caithe! I am sorry I don’t like Caithe T.T Why couldn’t she die instead of Trehearne! >.<

I liked having him around. So thanks, Anet!

I didn’t play much Dragonhunter during the beta. I tried to play a bit but couldn’t take the class. But as soon as HoT launched, I borrowed my Ranger’s ascended Longbow and hit the jungle. I found the Hero Point cap helped. I had all the core Tyria Hero Points so was able to be an adept Dragonhunter, but I couldn’t go traps as I didn’t have enough unlocked.

So I was greatsword/longbow + shouts for a long time. It got me used to the longbow, and now I am greatsword/longbow + traps. I find the traps work better with a greatsword and then when I can’t tanks anymore, use wings of resolve to escape to range and switch to the bow.

I am enjoying the Dragonhunter gameplay but I haven’t been game enough to try it in PvP and WvW yet. However, I can see why some people are Q.Qing. But let’s face facts here, Dragonhunter is probably one of the easiest elite specs to master. It augments our normal gameplay more then it changes it. When the others have mastered their elite spec, they will stop Q.Qing. I am going to hope Anet knows this and doesn’t do any pre-mature nerfs.

Eir [SPOILER]

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Tinni.4351

Tinni.4351

Death is common.

Which is why you can revive dead people with sensual massage?

This was a blatant red shirting and fridging of Eir. Nothing more.

She died only because it was a plot device to establish that things are “super cereal!” and to push Brahm to action and shift classes just as Marjory’s sister’s death did for her.

They couldn’t even give her a heroic death. She dies giving up after being a colossal chump and getting betrayed by a murderous lunatic. The second Faolin tripped I could see what was about to happen from a mile away because “The Gullible Good Guy” is a mainstay of weak writing.

They could have easily had her go into bear mode and do a “I’ll hold it off so you can escape!” death and it would have felt like she at least died for something rather than nothing.

They can’t even be bothered to keep the somber tone of what just happened. You walk into Auric Basin and everyone’s instantly forgotten that a friend just got gutted like a trout in front of them and that another’s wracked with grief.

To be fair, the only person in Auric Basin with a personal attachment to Eir was Tribune Brimstone and Rytlock being a Charr probably processes grief differently to others. Everybody else would be more worried about Braham but since he had Rox with him, they would just get on with the task at hand.

I thought it was realistic because who has the time to mourn when your other friends are being taken right to the dragon and Caithe was still holding the egg! Plus the death did make the final story mission that much more interesting so I liked how it all built up.

As for how Eir died, it was in keeping with her character because in the story she was always trying to save people. Even people who doomed themselves with their own foolishness. It was also a good way to remind people that while Nightmare court aren’t auto-Mordi allies, they aren’t your friends either. They want freedom yes but so does Canach. But Canach is still willing to fight for others and live by some of the Pale Tree’s ideals. The Nightmare courtiers are all in it for themselves. But that’s another topic.

I think they should add the “mysterious key bag” to the rewards. Better yet, add three key bags to the final reward for successfully completing the event map. That way, people don’t have to use the blooms to buy the key back and they have a RNG roll on the tri-colour key chest in Lion’s Arch!

Stealth gliding. I think it’s level 4 or 5? You attain that and you’ll have your transparency.

Suggestion - Transparent Glider Skin

Tinni.4351

I was watching Woodenpotatos latest video when I noticed a segment where he was gliding while wearing the white wings. Now there has already been calls to make the White and Black wings double as glider skins but while watching Woodenpotatos, you’ll notice at some point due to the angle you can’t see the glider – just the wings, I realized that all you need is a transparent glider skin.

I don’t care if it is a gem store skin but with a transparent glider skin we suddenly can present and we are being propelled by : the white and black feathered wings, the jet pack, the holographic wings, the shattered holographic wings, sunless wings and even the spinal blades!

According to data mining, we are also set to get butterfly wings and dragonfly wings. So I think it only makes sense to have a transparent glider skin that allows us to pretend we are gliding using our backpacks! Anyway, it’s just an idea but I hope its one that Anet will implement!

Hey there, two bow skins, as I still hesitate on the style of armor I’ll use as my guardian’s ascended stuff.

One: soldier version, with the Ebonguard’s bow, (ascalonians ftw)

Two: Tribal version with the centaur’s bow. (might as well take centaur’s weapons, since they survived maguuma)

That’s a fantastic look and the bow really goes with it!

Are Dungeons Dying in NA?

Tinni.4351

Well this is my story. My last goal before HoT drops was to finish the Ambrite Weapons collection. I did that and after that, I didn’t have any more goals. Seeing that I needed ascended accessories and I was a good chunk of the way to being 100% on the Caudecus Manor collection, I decided to finish the collection.

Now I completed the Caudecus Manor PvP reward track twice but I wanted to also supplement my PvP with actual dungeon running. I hadn’t pugged dungeons in a long time but started to pug CM with my thief and what I can say is this, it is not fun. I mean, I am only there for token and I have done CM properly many times. But it is not fun! Exploits, stacking, laziness – I don’t mean skipping using SR, hey I bring a thief to CM, I know what she’s going to be used for. But stuff like blowing up the Asura tech during path 1. It’s okay when you have someone on the team who can solo it but even when we don’t have anyone, the reluctance to actually do the content as a team is something too high.

No one wants to play in dungeon. Which is fine if the pug does work as a well oiled machine and we are in and out of the dungeon. That way the short time you spent in the dungeon is reward enough for just going along with everything. But most of the time, it doesn’t go smoothly. Then the teams reluctant to actually be there just annoying. Indeed, I think that if all you can do is look at the gold at the end, you are better off at Silverwastes.

I mean, its not that I don’t get it. I get it! I am only here to make my token count up to 660 and then I am done! I’ll get my accessory and move on to the next dungeon, which I will most certainly complete using PvP reward track, supplemented with guild dungeon runs. But me never setting foot inside CM, at least with pugs, doesn’t change the fact that dungeons are not fun.

Stacking is not fun. Exploiting isn’t fun. Even if you in it for the tokens, it should be mildly challenging and fun. But nope! So you know, I must rather get my tokens, weapons and armour through PvP. Something that I actually enjoy and do find challenging. So yes. Dungeons might well be dying. They certainly are dying for me!

Which bow (skin) will you use?

Tinni.4351

My Guardian has a crystalline theme to her weapons.

There are quite a few choices that fit that motif, but I think I’ve settled on Odanta (the Ambrite longbow) and the Daydreamer Longbow for the time being. I may add the Warden Longbow or the Zenith Longbow at some point as well, once I hit the point that I want to expand to 3 skins instead of just 2 for my Guard.

Already have the Daydreamer skin bought and sitting in my Guard’s inventory. Still need a lucky Fossil drop to get the Ambrite one, and have had pretty bad luck with those lately it seems. Gone through around 100 keys without one.

I recently completed the full Ambrite collection, mostly through PvP which guarantees a fossil, and so definitely know the appeal of the Ambrite longbow. The daydreamers is also very nice. I have been considering picking one up but I need a few items to sell first. T.T

Thanks everybody for replying. Please keep your selections coming. ^.^

I have an icebrood-corrupted Guard going dragonhunter (Coldsnap is amazing) who will be using Wintersbite. Hail Jormag and what a fun elite for that.

I have a Chaos Longbow for my white outfit Guardian, and an Azureflame for the traditional Guardian blue-flame look.

Very good selection! All far more suited to guardian then the other two longbow classes.

I used Ley Line Longbow during the BWE event. Made me feel like I killed one of those Mordrem Archers and took their wep to kill them. Plus, blue stuff make me happy :P

That’s a very good skin. If my characters weren’t dress very dainty and elegant, I would totally go for Ley Line weapons. As it is, the heavy stone look just doesn’t work.

That’s a very windy choice! I like it!

Apologies if there is already a topic similar to this but I was wondering that longbow you guys plan on using with your dragonhunter come HoT?

For myself, I set out wanting to use the Dragon’s Jade Hornbow Skin . That’s what I used on my beta dragonhunter but I have since decided to keep the skin on my ranger.

I had a BL weapon claim ticket lying around and so got Dwayna’s Longbow skin as a potential but I am not sold on it.

I also bought the Crimson Lion Longbow skin as a potential. I think I am one of the few players who actually likes that skin set.

If money was no object, I think I might have considered Wings of Dwayna . Alternatively, if I ever get the drop, I would love to have the Fractal Longbow . So what about you guys? Which bow do you want your Dragonhunter to weild?

Reroll to Revenant

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Tinni.4351

Tinni.4351

I have been trying to play a revenant. Last beta, I took my Rev into fractal but that was before Shiro. This beta I have been trying to do HoT areas with Shiro + Mallax, duel wielding sword and sword + axe. Later I switched to Shiro + Stonehammer, so duel wielding sword plus hammer.

For what its worth, these were all ascended weapons because I had raided my characters and put a selection of ascended weapons in my bank just before the beta start. So that they were copied when my bank was. I also gave my Rev ascended rings and amulets since I had a bunch lying around in my bank.

Anyway, I like the concept behind the revenant but I strongly feel that I personally probably would benefit from the levelling journey with him. This is something that is easy to forget when rolling a new class. Just being dropped at 80 isn’t the ideal situation. Sure, I can pull a build off metabuild and just blindly follow it. But I wouldn’t really understand the Rev if that’s all I did. This would prove problematic in the long run and potentially detrimental to my enjoyment of the class. That’s not to say that I am going to go all the way from 1-80 in the slow build. But I might use tomes in batches or as I feel ready.

I guess what I am saying is that while there are plenty of ways for players to skip the 1-80 journey or start of in the mist with the revenant already at 80 and get a back story, like the death knight, for long term enjoyment and understanding of the class – some “traditional” leveling might be beneficial. At least, that’s what I think!

So weapon swap..

in Revenant

Posted by: Tinni.4351

Tinni.4351

I feel it might be too overwhelming because weapon swapping and legend swapping means that neither of our skill bars are “set”. This can prove a cognitive challenge because even with engineers and elementalists, the utility bar is always fixed. You know you’ll always get X when you press 0. But with revenant you have the additional cognative load of remembering which legend you have selected.

So you have 1-5 changing and 6-0 also changing. So I think weapons swap will be taken away before final release.

Did you just say it might be too hard? My goodness. You know, I was a bit upset too like OP when they added weapon swap to Revenant but after a few minutes of thinking about it, I realized it makes complete sense. There is indeed a cognitive challenge of changing weapons and legends but that is where the reward of playing that class will come from. Knowing what to do when you switch to a different weapon with the currently equipped legend and knowing when to switch to your other legend. If anything, adding weapon swap will increase the skill gap required to play this class and hopefully add enough complexity to make it rewarding to be good at it.

I guess it depends on what you want out of a class. I mean, there are still elementalists who cannot do the “attunement dance”. Meaning that some struggle even with open world PvE. Supposedly HoT is going to have actual hard PvE content. This might well mean that the population of dedicated revenants would be quite small due to how challenging the class is. I am not saying this is a bad thing but if the new class is underplayed, it could mean bad things in terms of support going forward.

Alternatively, we can have players thinking the class wasn’t good because they can’t play it properly – an actual thing that plagued Elementalist at launch. We are going to get a surge of new players come HoT, I am just not sure how accessible revenant will be to the average players. Again, this doesn’t have to be a bad thing and I am all for revenant being the new hard mode class. But just saying that both bars swapping might be a bit much for some players.

Sorry, but I really cannot see any cognitive challenge here.
I think you’re underestimating the capability of human brains.

Human brain is a wonderful thing but there is a reason why a lot of MMO players gravitate towards “easy classes”. Maybe in current PvE both sides of your skill bar changing might not be a bad thing but I can already see revenant being a class reserved for expert players in PvP and even WvW. Indeed, if HoT PvE content really is challenging, I can see people continuing the whole “no revenant” thing not because the class is bad but because it is played by so many people who just can’t harness its full potential.

The lack of energy on Elementalist means they can spam 30 skills in a row (including 2 conjured weapons and not counting healing/utility), without pausing, and once the rotation is over they can start again with all cooldowns recharged.

Revanant is still WAY inferior to this, both in terms of skill number, but also because energy prevents from spamming.
After a 10 weaponskill rotation you probably need to swap legend.
After an upkeep skill is used you also need to swap legend, or you can’t use weaponskills.
Revenant will be good at bursting, like thief (similar mechanic), but won’t have a lot of sustained damage.

That’s the problem though. If HoT is going to have actual hard PvE content, you should no longer be able to just spam skills. Indeed, I think it’s going to be more weapon + legend, i.e. hammer in Jarl stand, sword + Shiro stand. Not just spam of all skills. This is basically my issue. If we assume that spamming skills will no longer work in HoT, player Revenant properly might just be too much for a lot of people. Don’t get me wrong. I don’t mind but I worry about the effect it might have no revenant support going forward if the dedicated revenant player base is too small.

Unpopular opinion but I think weapon swap was a bad idea and will encourage players NOT to swam legendary stances. Just because we are used to swapping our weapons but not our utilities. Except for warrior and Mesmer, I have all other classes and plan to role a revenant in HoT. So I jumped at the chance to try the class out today. I joined a level 9 fractal PuG with another revenant and… I think we had an ele and couple of guardians. What I found was the Ventari was totally useless! PvE at the moment just doesn’t do enough damage to justify that amount of healing.

Of course, I already knew that on account of having guardian and ele, none of whom need to be heal-support unless I am in groups that don’t stack or hide in corners in dungeons and fractals. So yeah, here’s hoping HoT PvE content is really, really, really punishing to justify needing Ventari legend!

Tome Change ideas

in Guardian

Posted by: Tinni.4351

Tinni.4351

I am pro removal of tomes but that’s because I hardly ever use them! Most of the time I just have Renewed Focus which is a Meditation and so works when I have an all meditation build! But even when I have shouts, consecration or just a mix of utilities, I can’t really think of a better Guardian elite then Renewed Focus. Indeed the alternate elite I usually use in PvE is hounds of Balthazaar.

No guardian will ever run full signet, unless they are just messing around in PvE but people do run full shout builds! So replacing tomes with a shout elite to go with shout builds and a signet to go with a build with a few signets makes a whole lot of sense! But again, I am someone who doesn’t use tomes. I am sure tomes have their fans but in my opinion, I think its high time they were replaced with something with more synergy with the rest of our utilities.

While Norns are just human enough to be able to look good in most armour, their big frames does distort a lot of armour. I myself had huge, huge, huge issues dressing my one and only Norn. It’s been awhile but my thief has been remarkably steady with her look. But she has changed a bit from last time I posted here. She has a new haircut and a new head gear that makes her look more like an assassin then she ever has! Not sure if you can tell but her armour has the new Shadow Purple dye.

Backpack skin is something I change around fairly frequently with her but she looks the best with the Wind Catcher!

So its been a while since I posted a picture of my guardian. She hasn’t changed much. I just replaced her shoulders and gloves with carapace pieces and she has ear muffs for a head piece. I don’t know if its a good thing or a bad thing that my Guardians look is so set.

It’s been a while since I posted pictures of my characters. Most of them have changed looks. Here is my ele now! I think in terms of looks, my ele is definitely the prettiest!

I also got a new computer since the last time I posted a screenshot of her so there is the improved graphics as well. ^.^

My ranger’s look has been pretty much the same for a while . But since the wardrobe changes went in, I have been trying to mix her look-up a bit. So I got her the Tier 2 sylavari cultural armour and I had the toxic shoulders from before but I didn’t like it.

My latest experiment (second picture) is a mix of toxic shoulders, Orrian chest pieces with aether pants (not that you can see) and viper boots and gloves.

I have never been very good at dressing my necro. This is what she looked like until the wardrobe changes when in.

Since the patch I tried to get her to be more necro and looked into the norn cultural armour and the horn from Halloween. But all I managed to do is get myself the title of “hussy tusker” from my guild (Tuskforce) sigh My guild is full of jerks!

As per my previous post, I was wearing all magitech up until last night. But then I decided, what a waste given the new wardrobe system! So now my thief has a custom look that’s a mix of viper and magitech!

I used to be your standard glowing guardian of light and beauty. But all the fighting with scarlet has turned me into a demon knight from hell! The grind to the legendary didn’t help matters either!

I can’t remember if I ever showed off my ele before but she has changed a bit in recent days so here is my elemental angel! I switch between having her in purple to match her hair flowers and celestial white for extra angelic-ness.

Her armour is pretty standard dungeon fair with a few exceptions.

Boots, shoulder – CoF
top and shirt – HoTW
Gloves – Molten gauntlets
Head – stone eye
Back – shattered wings

I posted in this thread a long time ago since I have had my engineer from launch. She has undergone many changes since but the wardrobe as really allowed me to customise her like never before and I also got her one of the new premium hair cuts.

This is what she looks like now! She cost me quite a bit of money since when I went to made the blades for her, I realised she was dynamic and those are the most expensive cores! sigh But at least she looks nice!

Her armour for those interested,

Head – Gas Mask
Shoulders – Aetherblade Medium
Coat – Magitech
Gloves – Aetherblade Medium
Pants and boots – also Aetherblade but she’s so tiny that the pants and boots hardly matter!

Node In Home Instance Question

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

No idea, but if you make friends with someone who has them in his/her home instance, you can mine them too.

I know, I have a guildie with all the nodes and so I do ninja stuff from his home instance. But I just think that another chance at some point would be good not only for myself but other people, especially new players. Just a thought.

Node In Home Instance Question

Due to a number of factors, I didn’t end-up getting the watchworks node or the candycorn node for my home instance. But I do have the Quartz node and the place of power. I was just wondering if Anet plans to bring back the ability to get the nodes in a future Living story or some one off quest in the future.

I imagine that new players who weren’t around for the living story update would also be interested in getting these permanent upgrades to their home instances.

Good stats for Necros

in Necromancer

Posted by: Tinni.4351

Tinni.4351

Thanks for the replies so far folks. This is all really interesting and useful as I haven’t played my necromancer at all in months. I don’t really want to go “pure” damage with my necromancer with beserker and assassins as my engineer, thief, ranger and my ele are all pure damage. So it would be nice to have something a little different. So maybe I will look into the more condition heavy things like dire, rabid and rampages.

Good stats for Necros

in Necromancer

Tinni.4351

I realise asking “what are good stats to have for necros” is a bit like asking “how long is a piece of string” but the problem is that my necromancer doesn’t have any particular use. I have a guardian, ranger, thief, engineer and elementalist and so I am pretty covered when it comes to dungeons, fractals, open world PvE, WvW etc, etc. But I do want to take her out for a spin from time to time.

She’s level 80 and currently has PVT armour from HOTW. I choose PVT because she was dying a lot when I was taking her through her personal story, doing story mode dungeons and I did make her earn her own dungeon tokens for her armour. So PVT made sense as it allowed me to survive. But I have been thinking of replace it but not sure with what stats.

She’s running a 20/30/10/0/10 build with sceptre + off-hand dagger for a bleed build. I equip a staff for a well + mark thing in dungeons and for WvW zergs to go with the sceptre + off-hand dagger. I don’t have a axe, focus or a second dagger for d/d. All her weapons have the berserker stats.

Her trinkets are… a bit of a mess and really why I need to know what stats would be good for her. She’s my only character who doesn’t have an ascended necklace. I have 5 laurels away from being able to get her one. But I am not sure what to get her. She does have ascended rings but I can replace them easily. But I can’t easily replace an ascended necklace if I make a wrong choice. But I honestly don’t know what stats to get her. So any help would be much appreciated.

The Krait Obelisk provides one and only one skill point per character. Subsequently, the Obelisk can be used to charge Crystals, only.

Ah okay. So it was just me getting confused. Thanks for the explanation.
