So.....gold caps.

For some reason, it’s not liking my attempt at multi-quotes so I’ll just simplify.

— “I seem to recall a dev saying it would only effect a small portion of players…..”
This I understand entirely. Still a really poorly designed system though.

— “Could be they could tweak or make the system better by using a linked method. I.E if you have been friends with said person for x time or in a guild with them for x time the amount you can send between each group increases. I don’t think that’s too unreasonable a request.”

Looking back, I missed this part and we both have similar thoughts.
And the people complaining could still easily fall under the small amount of people who would be affected.

— “Or they’re gold buyers trying to pass off what they’re doing as not against the rules (not saying that’s the case here) and they’ve been wrongly caught in the net.”

I think it’d be pretty obvious if someone was moving huge amounts of gold to someone they’ve never talked to or anything before compared to a few friends exchanging things. Also I have a screenshot of the sad situation if you want (though my storage is kind of messy so no judging please).

The insane thing is that it would only stop the stupidest of gold sellers.

All you’d need to do is get buyers to list a lowly traded item for a ridiculous amount.

Bam, gold transferred. 15% cost. No cap. Or better yet, just list 1000 items at 0.001% of the intended transfer amount. Even harder to notice.

The sad thing is I’ve actually seen this myself lol. Was some piece of trash armor for like 2700 gold or some nonsense.

Honestly, I think it could just come down to a matter of verifying if the person is on the list of authorizing networks and then filtering the percentage of capping based on time or some other big factor between the trader/tradee. As an example, having a 600g limit instead of a 500g for friends you’ve had for 6 months vs a cap of 100g with someone you’ve just recently met. I know there’s any amount of metrics they have to keep track of such things.

Then again, there’s gold sellers doing the examples mentioned above so it’s kind of irrelevant.

In a nutshell, I have 3 friends who donated differing levels of gold to help me with buying the Hunter. Now I’m stuck with 800g split between my mail and my storage guild because I thought depositing it would help with the cap (dumb I know). Given that stuff from storage guilds isn’t even reimbursed or anything, why does this have to be an entire week (/frustration).

As it stands, I now have to wait a week and a half to get any of my storage guild’s gold (I’m the only one that uses it :/) and clear my mail.

Sigh.

P.S. – All 3 of these friends have also been in the same guilds as me for a year so it’s not like I’m getting gold from a suspicious source or something. That seems like it should be part of a filter or something to determine how much you can receive -_-..

Problem is that the entire game isn’t designed for singleplayer instanced maps.

Something that could be interesting would be letting Chaos Armor let you apply confusion on hit or something along those lines. Maybe just make Confusion one of the default staff auto possibilities (lowering vulnerability duration and adding a 1.5s confusion duration or something would be neat)? Maybe making the 2nd chain in scepter add confusion to make it an actual threatening ranged main-hand?

Food for thought.

P.S. – Make iDuelist a 50% finisher so I can actually chain it with ethereal fields for decent confusion consistency <3

I was just trying to think of something that didn’t need to be made from scratch or intertwine a bunch of parts here and there. Is there an API IRC or other form of communication? I’ve probably just missed it somewhere but it would be awesome to have that available.

ID is immutable, Name is not. There are situations where an account’s name will change, though they are rare.

Characters do not have an immutable identifier that we can expose

Would their profession fall under immutable (assuming it’s accessible)? If that could work, maybe doing something with the character’s creation date could mix with that to make some form of ID.

Something to keep in mind is that iWarden only reflects while the whirl is going. It used to do it regardless but that’s the case now. If you want to use it to actively reflect, keep that in mind.

Staff, Scepter/Focus/Torch - Cele Trinkets?

Does Shatter or Phantasms really have that different styles that I’d not be able to just have one set of armour? I mainly just want to know what stats for my gear using those weapons would be best. Even a list of possible options.

Yes they are that different. There’s literally no way that you can use 1 set of stats for everything on a Mesmer. It just doesn’t work (I’ve tried pretty much every viable combination for both power and condi on both shatter/phantasm setups and it still holds true).

Your weapons are more condition oriented but can also work with power in the right circumstances. Staff has very low power scaling (unless you’re pumping illusions out 24/7 or don’t shatter your Warlock) but lots of condition application as well as boons (from Chaos Storm). It’s not suited to really any dungeon encounter though.

Scepter/focus don’t have a lot of synergy with staff (IMO). You don’t really have any way to keep people in your AOEs (irrelevant in open world pve) so that would be a big issue by itself. Torch is mainly a defensive offhand but doesn’t really provide any utility other than the stealth (and relatively low illusion summon cooldown from Mage).

If you’re going to do a power-oriented setup, you need to have more “active” (sword mainhand, pistol offhand, greatsword as main examples) weapon combinations. Condition builds are usually fine with more “passive” (staff, scepter) ones.

Power: Berserker/Assassin gear | Condition: Most commonly Rabid/Dire
Mesmer doesn’t cover enough things for Celestial to be effective.

Role: I can probably fill into every role so I’ll just describe what I can and see where that puts me. I thoroughly enjoy Mesmer and theorycrafting builds while also knowing there’s still a lot more for me to learn/work on. I enjoy teaching people parts of the game (or anything really) that I’m knowledgeable in and I would consider myself to be at least an intermediate Mesmer player.

Can’t play during early afternoons on tues/thurs due to school stuff but other than that I’m pretty solid.

I’m 100% sure. I keep my alternate set of armor in a specific bag with nothing else in them. There’s a 90% empty bag above that one and the one before that. Hope that gives an idea of why I’m so confused.

I just filed a support ticket about this but as the title says, one of my armor pieces isn’t in the very specific place I kept it in my inventory anymore. I’ve never had this problem before and can only think of the patch somehow doing something to make it vanish (I was doing just fine the past couple days and then out of the blue, poof). Sounds silly I know but it is what it is.

I’ve also been curious about how skills/traits are stored. I played around with them in memory a bit but didn’t get to experiment across multiple professions. I think this would help with what the OP was suggesting, but I’m not sure how viable it’d be.

This started recently for me as well. It doesn’t start until around 9:45-10:30PM CST. Did a tracert and everything is fine until 64.25.32.82 (playing on 64.25.38.247 right now while it’s happening) at which point every request times out.

Edit: Just guested to Blackgate (64.25.33.73) and it drops requests at the same IP. However, the lag issues much more minimal for the time being…RIP Crystal Desert

I don’t agree with GW2 problem is with the teaching but rather the game mechanics are not intuitive. If you have never play GW2 before how would you know about combo field? People do not know what is a combo field. People do not know how each skill interact with a combo field. It is like hidden secret room you would never find it unless you accidentally stumble on it or look up a guide.

If you actually take a moment to read what your skills do (which most people should be doing…), some of them mention combo fields. People who don’t care aren’t going to think beyond the numbers they see at the top of the box but those who are actually curious about the game can probably put 2&2 together.
There are two halves of a combo field. Both are clearly labeled on the skills that utilize the field. The only unclear thing about them are what effects they cause. Those are stated in big white text whenever they do interact. Doesn’t really seem that complicated to me.

You are wrong. Most people know how to dodge, many people can’t dodge properly to avoid damage.

Think about that for a moment. Then read it again and think over it again.

It require knowledge of monster attack pattern, observation and quick reflexes. Invincibility frames is a crutch in action rpg. It allow people to perform risky moves with no damage or penalty.

Most monsters are pretty telegraphed as far as when they’re going to attack or what kind of attack they’re going to use (AC spider queen rears back before she shoots poison aoe + immobilize ticks as an example). I’m not saying people should know immediately how to deal with a situation their first time, but everything aside from some of the dungeons and wurm/teq are pretty straightforward in that regard.

GW2 focus on Invincibility frames as its form of defense is also its bane. Any slow reaction or lag and you will take the blow to your face.

Not getting killed in melee if you don’t have the ability to soak the damage isn’t really a problem with dodging/not dodging. That’s a pretty big part of any mmo/rpg. If you’re squishy and can’t avoid the damage, don’t stand where you’re going to get downed/killed instantly. Common sense I’d hope.

I agree with a lot of what’s been said throughout the entire thread and don’t really feel it necessary to repeat them (you can figure out the trend of the thread after a page and a half if you actually read everything).

My opinion is that people should have both a required intro to as well as a side area (like in HotM) where it’s similar/identical to how it was in GW1. NPCs lined up in a row that had conditions on them/applied conditions to you if you stepped in their circle. Make people go through it to some extent/reward them for doing so. Flash something across their screen that tells them to hover their mouse over skills to learn what they do. So on and so on.
