Six Easy Steps to Fix Elementalist

So what caused the BWE3 changes? Were Eles that mighty? That seems odd to see as an issue, considering out of my 4 professions played, the Ele dies more often. Clearly the changes were too draconian if they were needed.

I love my ele, and am still low-level enough that I’m unable to see these issues. But Munchkin/OP —- awesome posts. I really think you and others have some great ideas and would definitely like seeing the class have more power to bring it in line with the competition.

Why should warriors do so much more damage at little risk? Seems really backward, they should be the ones with long fights, not the glass not-cannons eles are.

Please, ArenaNet, consider some positive changes for eles, and don’t make sPvP the focus of balance, those folks will never be pleased and you’ll burn cash to just get more complaints.

Elementalist for PvE?

Well, if you like running, than Elementalist is a good fit. If you like having to think on your feet and can build good instincts and have very good button awareness, it’s a good class for you.

Try it, if you don’t like it by the time you’ve finished your first zone, no big loss.

Elementalists have a few strategies they can employ. Kiting’s one of the big ones. Your defense as an Elementalist is movement.

I personally love the class, if you’ve played thief here, then you have a good feel for some of the kinds of movement you have to do for non-kiting fights.

But as others say, you’re super squishy… so it’s up to you. I love the class.

Why is animation of Asura Thief different from other races' thieves?

I can answer the two toes things, it turns out that the covered toe is the one that’s super sensitive. Underground the Asura use that toe to read what’s going on in the environment.

Above ground the information they get is all kinds of wrong, so, as a thief, covering that toe protects them more than exposing and getting their read wrong on what’s occurring nearby.

Or it could be a stylistic choice.

Mounts [Merged]

I like mounts, but not too wild of them. What I’d like to see is mounts that are essentially another weapon set, or that shift your weapons performance while mounted. That would be cool.

Narai, just a personal recommendation, but add some other keys to the F1 – F4 calls in you control set up… I’m using Shift+1 – Shift+4 and actually finding it much easier to play with those instead.

Event Participation Problems In Large Groups

I really like that, zerospin.

So many times I’ve done(admittedly low level) events where I get gold easily if I DPS, but if I heal / res – I drop to bronze or occasionally silver.

Are there any "rare" dynamic events?

Being an altaholic, I’ve been hanging around the same areas for weeks, and truthfully, I think there are some rare dynamic events. There was one I’d never seen until this morning, in spite of literally spending a few days worth of time in that very area.

Others seem to be as soon as possible.

Missing hair accessory?

I don’t think it’s a hair accessory that’s missing. What you’re seeing is some kind of artifact from the design.

For the darker hair colors, you don’t see the artifact at all. For lighter hair colors it looks really odd (and I don’t use that hair style for them, though it would be a cute style without the oddity).

There was another post involving the mouse around here. I think it said something about turning ‘mouse trails’ or something like that off. Maybe that’s the issue?

I agree with Rolo, build your own, if you can. You can create a rig that does everything you want for fractions of the price pre-builts would cost. It’s worth the research time.

I’m seeing some of that at times, but only in some of the busier areas. Are you seeing it all the time?

From Bill Freist’s post-

Alternatively, you can download and install the latest AMD Catalystâ„¢ Application Profiles to fix this issue.
The latest Application Profiles can always be found here .
After installing these profiles, you must restart your computer for them to take effect.

Again, this was in the AMD/ATI crash post. source

Tonight I saw that the AMD/ATI Crash sticky had been updated. I tried the solution, which was to get a CAP profile update. Either that fixed the problem or an update in todays code did. No crash in almost 5 hours of playing.

Thank you, ArenaNet! I’m finally getting to enjoy the game fully!

Again, it’s not nVidia only. Running dual crossfire 6870s and still having these same problems.

Just want to remind folks that it’s not only nVidia users getting this problem. In fact, the only report I’m not seeing is of XP users getting this crash… anyone seeing them commenting(or are they all gone?)

bwillb – I have no idea, I think someone had posted early on that they’d seen a loss in frames as well as the crash, and those with the FPS problem jumped in to chime they’ve had that to. I’m sure it happened organically, annoying as it may be.

But it would be nice to hear if there’s been any progress, we’re at, what, 2 full weeks of data being handed in on the problem?

Game crashes TOOO OFTEN.

Arghore, good suggestions, generally. But this is an issue that a large number of gamers are reporting. Basically, we can play, depending on the machine for a range of minutes(for me, it’s about 40ish, some have it in about 15, others less).

When the crash occurs, most often it’s a black screen lock-up, with no cursor, but sound will loop or continue normally. Sometimes the game might come back, most often not. It’s happening to Vista/7s Intels and AMDs, ATI/nVidias, and 32/64bits, so basically a wide range of machines.

There’s an 11 page listing here in the forums on it, though it got conflated with FPS issues.

Still crashing here as well.

With some further testing, I can prevent crashing by using only 2 of my seven cores. But the games performance takes a massive hit. The game is playable then, but performance wise, it just dies, cuts down to about 20 fps. But I can play with no problems.

During this weekend, I tried one theory, which was to port like crazy. When I did that (switching between DR and the starting zone), no crash.

Also, if I’d “take breaks” or switch characters, no crash. The more time I’m spending ‘with’ this problem, the more I’m convinced it’s acting like a memory leak.

Are we having XP users encountering this crash problem? I’m seeing tons of Vista/7 64bit/32bit and Nvidia/ATI identifications with the issue.

A couple people have seemed to resolve the problem by setting in an XP SP3 compatibility mode(I’m trying that next).

I’m wondering, too, how all these low FPS posts are in this thread about crashing. I don’t want to minimize the FPS issues folks are having, but I don’t want our crashing issues to be ignored.

Not on the gaming rig right now, but I too am having these problems.

I’m running Win7 64(hp), off an i7 960, 12GB 2000mhz DDR3, dual 6870s. Since getting the game last week, I ‘tend’ to have crashes like those described by others where the screen goes black after about an hour, with the audio still playing(mostly music and environmental. A couple of times the games recovered on it’s own(usually will crash again in about 10-15 minutes) or a few times a crash to desktop(reloading the game results in a crash within a few minutes too).

I don’t get the crash at any specific times or events(not from zoning). My longest non-crash play cycle was for 4+ hours when I was having my main jumping back and forth to and from Divinity’s Reach, I would guess maybe no more than about 30 minutes in or out of the city at a time.

A few of the crashes, just before they’d happen I’d get a feeling like it was about to happen, so I think something is happening to the gameplay that’s leaving that impression, but I haven’t yet put a finger on it.

I’m really hoping this becomes a top priority because the game is insanely good aside from the crashing.
