diablo 3 killed wow

Well, for me at least, Diablo 3 killed Blizzards reputation,

Jay Wilsons “kitten that loser” comment in response to an interview with one of Diablo’s founding fathers was an eye opener, lol

Blizzard just seem to be in self destruct mode at the moment, which is good, it’s good for gaming as a whole, it means more players will start playing other games, which means income and support for some of the smaller companys.

I took a break from GW2 to play Torchlight 2,

I’m gonna take a wild guess and say that quite a large number of people took a break from GW2 to play MoP and Borderlands 2,

Does that mean GW2 is dead ?, lol No.

SWTOR on release was full to the brim with WoW players all taking a break from epic fail Cata,

Diablo 3 on release was full to the brim with WoW players all taking a break from epic fail Cata,

GW2 on release was full to the brim with WoW players all taking a break from epic fail Cata,

Errrrrrrrr,……….MoP just released,

Did you all not notice ??, lolz

Quite a large number of people have just gone running back to Blizzard to give them another chance, to try out MoP, have some fun, lvl to 90, play with Pandas, Poke some Pets, you get the drift,

Will they come back ??, who knows, who cares, Blizzard are past masters at suckering gamers into a cash cow.

To those that say – “what the hell, your insane, your mixing genres, what lives in MMO, stays in MMO”

Nonsense, sorry, but you are living in the past, you are a dinosaur if you think like that, a relic of the past, MMO’s went mainstream, did you not notice ??, lolz, that’s why they are all a bunch of dumbed down nonsense now.

People/Gamers (lol), flit around all over the place now, one day they are playing an MMO, next day an ARPG, one day a singleplayer, next day a multiplayer, FPS, yeah gonna shoot some kitten, lol, you get the drift.

I am playing an MMO, therefore I can only play MMO’s ???, lol, yeah lol

People/Gamers (lol) are mixing genres, it’s a brave new world, lol

People/Gamers (lol) are playing whatever the hell they like, and good for them, thats exactly how it should be.

People/Gamers (lol) are flitting around all over the place, as new games are released, player numbers in existing games will yo yo up and down, even those numb nuts at Blizzard have worked that out.

You either build your business model around that, or you drift into epic fail.

Can I put this more simply ??,

Err yes, stop being so childish, just play whatever game you like, have fun, and stop worrying about what other people are playing.

Is GW2 dead ??

Oh God, do I really have to call you childish again.

Tsaritsin whats this leveling curve you speak of the game rushes you to 80. The higher level you get the faster leveling gets you can go 1 to 80 in a long weekend. (4 days)

The lvling curve is the ‘boredom factor’ which will always kick in when you engage in repetition, which has a bad and nasty habit of slowing down your lvling at higher lvls, regardless of the rate at which you are gaining xp.

Yep, you can lvl fast in GW2, you can lvl fast in pritty much any MMO, if you sit in front of your PC for a very long time and just ignore the ‘Pain Barrier’ imposed by boredom.

But that is not indicative of the average player, lets not forget that GW2 has been out for what, about a month now, and there are still large numbers of players who not even 80 on 1 char, they are taking their time, enjoying the game.

If at any point the game dev’s sat down and said – “ok, you can lvl fast in this game, you can lvl from 1-80 in only a few days, therefore we do not need to maintain the reward and unlock structure through the whole process”, they would be badly wrong.

For me lvling my first char to 80, it was huge fun from 1-40/50ish, and went very fast, but by about lvl 65 I was bored to death of doing Hearts and DE’s over and over again, my lvling slowed down as I started doing other things to combat boredom, and in the end I hit WvWvW, and did 67-80 mostly in that.

Now, don’t get me wrong, the Hearts and DE’s are a bazillion times better than the questing in other such MMO’s (WoW for instance), Anet have done a fantastic job of making questing/xp gain more fun, alot more fun.

But repetition will always bring boredom, sooner or later, and that is why you need unlocks spaced through the lvling process, it adds fun, it helps you overlook any boredom that might be creeping in.

Feeling all alone on your map ?

Event just started right under your nose, and your feeling kinda scared ?

Link the nearest Waypoint in Map Chat (needs to be Map Chat for obvious reasons)

Then just announce the Event in the Map Chat, and Bingo, people will turn up, your empty map will suddenly be not so empty.

This will not always work, but can bring results, I think GW2 is suffering from ‘Shyness’, alot of people seem reluctant to talk and err ‘interact’, lolz

So, just give them an easy way to get to you, link the Waypoint, then they can just see where you are, and port on over.

But having said that, World of Wasted Time just got even more ‘wasteful’ with the release of MoP, so people are gonna be checking that out, give it a few weeks and when they are all bored of Pandas and Pet Poking, the numbers will probs go back up again.

Yeah it’s fixable, just needs the Devs to go back and look at the lvling process with a critical eye.

You gotta keep giving players reward, to keep the excitement factor going through the lvling curve, keep players ‘wanting’ to hit the next lvl, or the next lvl bracket, instead of players just feeling like it’s a drag through the lvls to the cap.

I think this is more important now than at any other time in MMO’s, as quite a few players seem to be growing tired of the whole lvling aspect of MMO’s, more and more players asking for an ’instant lvl cap button, kinda “let me have max lvl and just get on with it”, and I kinda agree sometimes.

The old reason given for the whole lvling process always used to be – it gives players time to learn and understand the class and the mechanics of the game, ie it’s a learning process, not a lvling process,

But with more and more games getting dumbed down, with less and less skills, less complication, less mechanics, I’m not sure it’s valid anymore.

One things for sure, if you build a good story, and you build that story around the lvling process then you got a good thing going, you got a base to build on, but you still gotta give players that “when I hit next lvl I get this new cool thing” factor.

The simple answer to your question OP is – Yes

I think Anet messed up a little bit, they hand out far to many of the ‘goodies’ early on in the Game, ie early in the lvling curve.

This is understandable, Anet want to create a good feeling at the start, get players having fun, get players ‘hooked’, but it leaves the middle ground a little sparse.

I think they should of just spaced things out a little better, save some unlocks for latter in the curve, keeping that ‘reward/unlock’ hit that is quite a big feature for keeping player interest during the lvling curve.

How about giving every class/proff a class specific weapon, have it unlock at lvl 75 ?, gives you 5 lvls to play around with it before you hit 80.

The elite skill is handed out far too early imo, maybe unlock at 50, 60 ?, then just space out unlocks better.

The issue of armor looking ‘bad’ through the whole lvling curve is also another problem, armor should get better (in looks) as you move up the lvling curve, as you progress, it’s part of the reward structure, and again, keeps people playing, keeps people having fun.

The best stuff should always be saved for max lvl, no doubt about that, there has to be a reward for max lvl, but you can still have progression in gear through the curve, and it’s one of the best things for keeping people interested,

People love nice looking armor, and they love ‘building’ chars, they love that sense of creation, taking a lvl 1 whatever, and building it into something, for many people, though by no means all, it’s one of the main reasons they play MMO’s

GW2 kinda gets it all messed up a bit, it needs better spacing, and some better armor skins, all stuff that can be fixed, IF they wanted/want to.

So, yeah, Anet you need to save some ‘goodies’ for the 40-60 zone, and think of some reward or unlock for the 70-80 zone,

I think a weapon unlock that is class specific is my best idea for 70-80,

Ranger gets Crossbow at 75,
Warrior gets Greataxe at 75
Necro gets a ‘kitten’ minion at 75
Guardian gets a Scepter that works at 75, lol

You get the drift,

My girlfriend bought MOP the other day. I am amazed by the fact that the MOP zones are more beautiful than Gw2 over all. It’s hard to believe that Blizzard is able to do the great job they did with such an old game engine. And in case you Gw2 fanboys didn’t know…Gw2 artwork is just as out dated as Wows, hence the reason why Gw2 uses Direct X9….

You know what’s hard to believe ?

The fact that you can’t correlate these two – “WoW’s old game engine” and “GW2 using DX9”, lol

In relation to MMO’s needing to be able to run on a wide range of hardware to be successful.

In other words, there is no point in making an MMO, if huge numbers of people can’t play it due to the req system specs, lol

The Holy Trinity Is not needed

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Tsaritsin.5364

Tsaritsin.5364

I kinda get the feeling that the Trinity system was removed simply to create a ‘gimmick’

A gimmick that can then be used as a sales feature, something to try and make the game stand out, the new ‘thing’, don’t we all just love the ‘new’ thing in games, lol

The truth is, the Trinity system worked, and it worked very well, it allowed game Devs to set up boss encounters and dungeons in such a way that everything is in effect balanced on a knife edge, at any moment the encounter can go either way, and things can change very fast.

And that is where the fun comes in, it gives players a sense of responsability, a sense of purpose, an objective, and a job to do within the game, leading to a job well done when the boss drops or the dungeon is cleared, and then everyone is rewarded with loot, happy faces all round.

But there is always two sides to every coin, and sometimes the job would not be well done, for many many reasons, far to many to list, sometimes that boss just wouldn’t drop, or that dungeon couldn’t be cleared, and failure would rear its ugly head,

And here is the problem, the plain truth is, in MMO’s some people can handle failure, and some can not.

Resulting in something ugly that I think we have all seen in our MMO lives, the Ragers, the Ranters, those low life scum who think they have a right to abuse others in an online game,

We have all seen it, that guy who thinks he has a right to rage at the Healer or the Tank, or even the Dps for that matter, that guy who thinks he has a right to throw verbal abuse because ‘failure’ reared its ugly head.

That’s not a failure of the Trinity system, that’s a failure of the community.

Ahh, but we never had enough Healers, or Tanks you say, we wasted so much time (lol, the concept of wasted time in an MMO) looking for a Tank or a Healer, no one wants to play Tank or Healer,

lol, yeah guess what, that’s because YOU keep shouting at them when it all goes wrong, like a bunch of pathetikittentle spoilt children, so they go log there alt instead, and who can blame them.

Ahh, but Dps is more fun than Tanking or Healing, you say, thats why no one wants to play Tank or Healer,

lol, guess what, thats not a failure of the Trinity system either, that’s a failure of the Game Devs (though they sure as hell aint ever gonna admit it), that’s a failure of the Game Devs to make Tanking and Healing as mush fun to play as it is to play Dps.

The Trinity didn’t fail, the community failed.

You treated your Tanks and your Healers like dirt,

So your Tanks and Healers said ‘kitten’ that, why should I bother.

And yeah, why should they bother, when all you do is rage and rant at them.

So the Trinity gets removed, blamed for a crime it didn’t even commit, lolz, and it’s replaced with Zerg dps mentality,

Pew pew pew pew pew, ooh im dead, run back in,
Pew pew pew pew pew, ooh im dead run back in,

I always hear Warriors say they wish they had gone guardian....

in Guardian

Posted by: Tsaritsin.5364

Tsaritsin.5364

Yes, I wish I had just rolled the ‘generic’ Warrior class from the start, but I didn’t, I rolled a Guardian, I tend to view this as my mistake, not Anet’s mistake.

Though I do tend to feel that the Guardian class/proff (lol), is a little ‘kittened’, I’m just waiting for Anet to release a kitten mask in the cash shop, and then I shall buy one for my lvl 80 Guardian.

Currently lvling a Warr (lvl 38) and a Ranger (lvl 35), and yeah my Warr is a little boring sometimes, but can do anything that my Guardian can do, except that he can do it better, and switch to a viable ranged weapon when needed.

Notice the mention of the word ‘viable’ in relation to ranged weapons, dare I mention Scepter, kitten I just have), Scepter, really ??, Anet really ??, it turns the whole Guardian class into a joke,

Why ?, because the whole game is a dps Zerg fest, and for that you must have a viable ranged dps option, and the Guardian has none, don’t mention scepter, please lol.

Ahh, but he has Support, and Dmg Mitigation skills you say, and yes he does, but as the game is set up at the moment, they are not even needed, everything is a dps zerg, every object in the game is simply overcome with dps,

And if you Die, it dosn’t matter, you simply run back in (in the case of dungeons), in WvWvW if you die, then the whole zerg is dieing, you got hit by a bigger zerg (lol) and no amount of ‘support’ is gonna change that.

So Guardian has no role, no purpose, no reason to even be there, just wasted space, wearing a kitten mask, because Anet got scared.

Warrior is boring yes, but they pump out massive dps, they have a high health pool, and a VIABLE ranged weapon option,

And to be frank, thats all this game wants, or needs.

Thieves are a bad design.

Get over it; once a class like this makes it through development, it rarely gets addressed. Usually one or more of the developers favor it, and they’ll always veto whatever proposed nerfs are brought up.

Years of World of Roguecraft should be indicative enough. Your best bet is just to roll one, and enjoy it for as long as that hollow playstyle entertains you.

Why should I support and pay the wages of a Dev team that didn’t listen to the Beta testers, and then released a Game that is riddled with problems ?

I know no good can possibly come from this, but every time I drop by the forums I can’t help but notice how disrespectful and defensive this community has become. Anyone that has anything critical to say is given the old Thousand Hand Slap by the game’s fans.

In MMOs with subs I chalk it up to people wanting on whatever level to defend the money they spend every month on the game. But here it is as bad as I have ever seen and the game has no sub..so I am at a lost.

Why all the hostility?

lol, you think this is bad ?

You should of seen the Diablo forums just after release, or the SWTOR forums for that matter.

This forum is quite civilised tbh, and I hope it stays that way.

ps, I would much rather have a forum like this, than a forum like the Blizzard forums that are simply – “Rate the Transmog above you” and “Blizzard we love you, we want to have your children”, and then everything negative is simply deleted.

Why I stopped playing Guild Wars 2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Tsaritsin.5364

Tsaritsin.5364

As far as WoW clones go, it’s a pretty good one and feels like an update to WoW but free to play. It even has largely the same races.

Still, the incredible lack of thought that went into the skill system (from the inability to pick and choose skills to the lack of an auto attack on things like the bomb kit and environmental weapons) is discouraging me.

I think it’s a ‘sign of the times’,

Just look at the way WoW is going backwards instead of forwards, just check out the new ‘dumbed’ down talent system in the latest WoW patch, it’s horrific, or at least it is for anyone who played Vanilla and TBC.

Hardwired chars, with very little choice, just so the Devs can balance the game better lol, and sold to the customer base on the grounds of ‘improvement’ lolz.

In terms of a questing experience then I find GW2 a million times better than WoW, in terms of ‘endgame’ then GW2 is sadly lacking, but that can change over time, and WoW wins endgame easy.

In terms of ‘Char Building’, both games are sadly lacking, and it’s a sign of the times, Dev’s seem to think that people don’t want ‘complicated’, so everything gets dumbed down, with very little real choice.

But having said that, it’s better than WoW, at least we have Traits, allowing the player to tweak things a little.

Tsaritsin.5364

Not Addictive ?

Hmmm, dunno, right now I have a love/hate relationship with GW2 tbh, but I keep comming back, so not sure.

It’s not addictive in terms of char progression thats for sure, the game as it is set up at the moment gives you far to many goodies early on, instead of having an even spread.

The game allows you to unlock all your weapon sets and skills way to early imo, when it really should save some of the good stuff for the very end of the lvling curve.

I think if Anet put some sparkle into the later part of the game then they will have a fairly addictive game.

But having said that, I think the glory days of ‘addictive’ MMO’s are over tbh, I think the gaming community as a whole has grown tired and bored of MMO’s

People are starting to understand that all it can ever be, and all it ever will be, is a Grind, an endless Grind,

Orr is horrid.

I’m the kinda player that likes to explore when I get bored of killing stuff, and visa versa, and in most of the zones you can do this pritty much ok.

In most zones when your bored of constant killing, you can pritty much start avoiding combat and go explore stuff instead, but not always, sometimes you have to clear a few mobs, or clear out a cave, but you get my drift,

In Orr, lol no chance, you can’t move five yards without tagging a bunch of angry undead, which is ok if your in the mood for a killing spree, but if your not in the mood it just gets very very tiresome, very quickly.

I dropped my lvl 80 because of Orr, and started lvling alts instead.

The place kinda reminds me of Eastern Plaguelands from Vanilla WoW (not EPL as it is now) back the 60 days, constantly tagging mobs and forced into combat, in a boring horrid looking zone,

If you wanna give ‘feedback’ then just do it,

Who cares if a bunch of Anet fanboys jump in your thread and highjack/derail it ?, honestly, who cares, it’s your opinion, your entitled to your opinion, and they are entitled to theirs as well.

Just say what you think,

1-80 first time round it’s a fantastic game, after that it’s boring as hell.

It reminds me of SWTOR, you know that single player story game that pretended to be an MMO, but was infact just another instalment of Knights of the Old Republic dressed up as an MMO, ie a few MMO bits bolted on, (badly bolted on).

Yep, to me GW2 feels exactly the same, 1-80 it tells a nice story, and there is a ton of other people around, but there is no real reason for them to even be there tbh.

After that, its just a silly grind fest, all MMO’s are just a silly grind fest, so no shocker there really, only to be expected.

What is shocking on the other hand is just how buggy and badly put together the Game is -

Useless Skills and Traits
Vague Skill and Trait descriptions
Awkward and Clunky Combat
Bugged Events and Skill Point Quests
Eratic Camera
Boring and Ugly Armor

And last but not least, a complete ‘Zerg’ mentality brought on by the removal of the Trinity system, a trinity system that in itself was not a bad thing, it just failed because Game Devs ‘failed’ to make Tanking and Healing ‘FUN’, lol

Oooh ZERG, that reminds me, WvWvW, the one thing that I thought would be GW2’s best feature turned out to be nothing more than a Zerg fest,

There is no strategy, no tactics, no nothing, there is not even any PvP lol, it’s just endless Zerging, big groups running around, smashing gates and then killing a mini boss, lol

There you go, thats my feedback, fire away fanboys, and just see if I care.

I’m in WvW with my Guardian, I spot 3 players chasing down a Warr, he’s running like a good un, I decide to join in the chase, a bad move, lol

He stops and turns, beats the living hell out of some poor little Asura, so I jump in with my Greatsword, and he 2 shots me, lol

Do I hit the forums and call nerf for Warrs ??, hell no.

If you can’t beat them, join them, I am now lvling a Warr, lol

Warriors are fine, huge fun, leave them alone.

Is GW2 farm fest?

Armor sets at 80 are either -

1. a huge amount of Karma
2. a huge amount of Gold
3. a huge amount of Tokens

Games not a Grind fest ??

I loled

ALL mmo’s are a grind fest, they have to be a grind fest, if a dev team from any games company ever tells you that their game is not a grind fest, they are telling pork pies, full stop.

Guardians, leveling

I found my Guardian was huge fun to lvl from 1-30, then it slowed down a bit, was still fun, just not as much fun from 30-60, all this lvling was done with a Greatsword, you gotta “spin to win”,

60+ got very tedious tbh, and in the end at about lvl 67/68 I hit WvW instead, I did 68-80 in WvW and had quite alot of fun tbh.

I am gonna stick my neck out and say that Guardians start out being a huge amount of fun, but then as you lvl and get higher and higher the fun factor seems to drift away, they don’t seem to scale well in my opinion.

Why is Warriors HP > Guardian HP

My lvl 80 Guard wearing some fairly nice gear and her health boosted with trait points walks into WvW with 18-19k health,

My nice new little lvl 10 baby Warr with no trait points and starter armor walked into WvW rocking 27.5k health,

I loled,

I don’t even bother playing my Guardian anymore, it’s boring in the extreme, and it’s obvious that Anet simply want us to be nothing more than a “buff-bot” and a resser of downed players,

And if thats the case, then removing the trinity was pointless, also in the extreme, you might as well simply go back to having healers.

I think the Game is fantastic, I think the Game World is fantastic, but with regards to stats, skills and traits the whole game is a complete mess, and nothing is more of a mess than – Guardian.

Melee, working as intended, but not working IMO.

Melee atm in WvW is a complete joke tbh,

And the biggest joke of all is Guardian, because we don’t have a good ranged weapon, lol

Re-rolling from a lvl80 Guardian to a Warr at the mo, so at least then I can use a Gun or a Bow.

The delay in enemy rendering is becoming a deal breaker

Agree,

WvWvW is ruled by invisible zergs at the mo, and its game breaking tbh.

I would rather have smaller maps and fewer players than this nonsense with invisible zergs that just suddenly appear from nowhere.

Can we have some better looking Hammers as well

Big bad mean looking Hammers, my Guard is Asura and most of the Hammers I have seen/found so far look very err….small, even on my little Asura.

Greatswords look,…….Great,

Hammers look,……..average at best.

No "real" ranged weapon for Guardians

What seems odd to me is that the staff feels like it should be the long range weapon, and the Scepter should be the mid range weapon, it feels the wrong way round to me.

And yeah agree about the orbs, they are slow, I have been using Greatsword and Scepter/Shield for a while in WvWvW and I kinda like the Scepter, but the auto orb attack needs some work.
