Thank you for the information – stuff like this goes a long way with forum goers at least. (not being sarcastic)

Question though, and hopefully you might be able to answer this: Why does the removal of the glory etc… and the implementation of the new pvp rewards have to be separate? Is this a technical difficulty? Merely one of convenience? A question that cannot be answered due to revealing too much? I am curious why there is a gap?

Also – will ranks be adjusted to a flat increment? Because, otherwise, as mentioned previously, it seems that the higher you are ranked, the more time consuming it will be to attain a reward – so higher ranked players are awarded for the their time less than lower ranked players. Unusual system to say the least, especially given that the pve-side of things (achievement points, basic leveling) all is far more forgiving and even (no drastic curves like in other mmos).

I’d love to answer that first question but I’d rather leave it up to either John C or Colin if they wish to dare:P

As for the second! Can’t say too much about this, sorry ;( but remember this patch is just rewards phase 2 and the final phase is just around the corner! (It’s not too long after this patch) Disregard any rumors about the feature build being months away. We’ve worked so kitten this build, we are here struggling to be patient just as you all are :/

Loot table for rank up reward boxes:

  • Small reward boxes will contain random crafting materials and stardard loot
  • Medium reward boxes will contain 1 scroll of knowledge(skill point) and rewards similar to the small chest but in the next tier loot table above it.
  • Large reward boxes will contain a tome of knowledge(1 PvE level/skillpoint), 5 champion bags, and 5 scrolls of knowledge (5 skillpoints) each. Tier 5 crafting mats included.

These rewards are just a stepping stone for what is to come in the feature build. Try not to overanalyze these current rewards and sit tight. Unfortunately we cannot grant retroactive rewards with this type of change but just wait to see how we deal with this come the feature build! I can’t say anything further regarding that because it’s just way too big of a spoiler, but information is coming soon.

Can the skill points at least be retroactive please? My lvl 2 pvp characters will need them for the unlocks. Or am I to assume skill points will be retroactive come the feature build rewards?

Edit: I guess a lot could change where skill points may not even be the currency for pvp unlocks. I dunno, I just hope unlocks are much better than the 300,000 glory and 40 gold that was needed for the 8 healing skill unlocks. I read it will be just enough to “get your feet wet” so time will tell.

As much as I’d love to see eles being given love <3~ Can this please not just be a trading warriors for eles situation. If we keep going in a round about flavor of the yearly quarter style then there is no real progress, just the status quo with a new face.

It’s not really going to be like that. Everythings getting new crazy stuff, I am just personally overly hyped about the Ele changes. Honestly I see every class being in a pretty good spot. It’s hard to tell what is going to come out of the build. Hence why we’ve kept the balance changes to a minimum amount.

There’s no real difference if you just wait. Just be aware you won’t be able to earn more glory if you are short on anything.

I suggest to open all your chests, don’t just leave them unopened as they will be deleted.

Deleted on the March 18th patch or in the feature patch after?

Feature build is when that stuff will happen. This patch is primarily just to stop allowing glory to be earned… along with the other vital implementations/changes we are making to how rewards are earned and which rewards those will be.

Okay, new question!

Will large reward boxes still offer crafting materials? If not, it seems like some players would prefer the medium over the large, depending on their preferences.

EDIT: Wait, I believe champion’s bags already have high level crafting materials in, right? If so, a different question: will players be able to get lower tier materials at higher ranks?

Tier 5 crafting mats are included in champion bags. Additionally ascended dust tier 5 is included. That being said, no, lower tier materials won’t be granted in large chests… But…sit tight for the feature build if you are worried regarding that.

Here’s a bit more information to clear the air on this stuff coming in for this next patch:

What will be in the rank chests?
We are exchanging out the old rank up reward chests with three new rewards chests based on the level you are.

Here are the thresholds:

  • Ranks 1-9: Players will earn 1 Small Reward Box each time they level in this tier
  • Ranks 10-29: Players will earn 1 Medium Reward Box each time they level in this tier
  • Ranks 30-80: Players will earn 1 Large Reward Box each time they level up in this tier

Loot table for rank up reward boxes:

  • Small reward boxes will contain random crafting materials and stardard loot
  • Medium reward boxes will contain 1 scroll of knowledge(skill point) and rewards similar to the small chest but in the next tier loot table above it.
  • Large reward boxes will contain a tome of knowledge(1 PvE level/skillpoint), 5 champion bags, and 5 scrolls of knowledge (5 skillpoints) each. Tier 5 crafting mats included.

What are these guild tabards?
Sorry for the confusion but these are just the same items that were on the rank vendors. Tabards, banners, back pieces, regardless the name, they are NOT capes. The “back banners” will still be there until the feature build but the reason we put them on the glory vendor was because we planned to previously remove the rank vendors entirely for this build, meaning they would no longer be available. Having these vendors should give you all some more time to get anything you don’t have yet and help with inventory management. Both the rank vendors and glory vendor will be removed upon the feature build so make sure you do this. I suggest to open all your chests, don’t just leave them unopened as they will be deleted. Either way, don’t be too alarmed because tons of new rewards are coming. Even PvP specific ones!

What about salvage kits?
The salvage kits on the glory vendor have been changed to cost a small amount of copper instead of being sold for 100 glory. The salvage kits on the rank vendors will remain 100 glory until the vendors are removed themselves.

Hope that clears some questions up!

What is the feature build “logged”?

It means it will be fixed in the next release the skills and balance is directed to ship, barring any issues that prop up and push it back.

Added #28:
28. Illusion of Life. Separate thread.
Those affected by Illusion of Life will instantly become downed after killing something, instead of staying alive. Only applies to PvE.

There was some confusion regarding the malicious sorcery + Illusionist’s celerity. I made a mistake. To clear things up, using combinations such as Wardens Feedback and Illusionist’s celerity shouldn’t double reduce phantasm skill cooldowns. I thought that was regarding that issue but I see it was for a mainhand trait.

Tyler, doubling up on cooldown traits has been a feature since the beginning of the game.

Respectfully, I believe you’re badly mistaken.

I could be getting confused. This release has my brain on overload. I would think all the tooltips can’t comprehend double cooldown reduction in that case. So that being said, the stated cooldowns might all be incorrect in those circumstances but the recharges will still function at their correct values.

Hey guys, just wanted to pop in here and state that come the release of the feature build players will no longer be able to carry the orb while in a transform. For those unfamiliar with what a transform is in PvP, it is a skill that changes your skill bar. I.E Rampage, Elixir U, Tornado, etc. We’ve also trimmed off some hard edges on the map to make travel more smooth and functional.

Thanks and I hope this makes the map more enjoyable for those whom have issues with it.

I actually play all 8 classes, I’ve helped start multiple metas!

I play terror necro, most every ele spec, d/p s/p and s/d thief mainly. But I tinker around with every class like I said.

Seeing as you play “All” classes in SPVP…what do you run on your Ranger?

Well, I used to play a lot of traps and beastmaster back in the day, but then randomly one day I started using Spirits to counter-pick old meta back point play. My first rendition of it was 0 10 30 30 0 rabid before showing it to Vyndetta. He optimized it into 10 0 30 30 0 with carrion and put it in a team fight role.

Either way I play these:
Traps: 0 30 30 10 0 or 0 30 30 5 5
Beastmaster: 10 0 30 0 30/0 10 30 0 30/0 0 30 10 30
Spirits: 0 10 30 30 0/10 0 30 30 0/0 0 30 30 10

Let’s reserve judgement for the patch. It’s good to start thinking about what sigils you might run now but it’s not going to really get ya any advantage over anyone this early when a lot of things are still missing. Most sigils have received balance changes. Duration sigils, on-crit sigils, and on swap sigils have even seen a few changes. But wait until you see the runes along with our other content coming in. There’s now a lot of options that look really good so like I said, it’s hard to foresee; and even if I foresee a meta (which I have my speculations), I personally can’t really do anything about it other than give my honest feedback to the team and communicate it back to you. I just make sure the stuff coming in isn’t broken bug wise and pester these guys with my delusional GW2 balance ideas, none of them which ever make it in(except these ele changes) :/ Also, Roy’s engi shames my warrior internally, so maybe blame me not being good enough:(

Firstly, just want to point out that back in the ele meta Lys was a dominant force, and as one of the few players to stay ele through all their balancing hurdles there’s no doubt he will be dominant again when ele is brought back up to par.

Secondly….

Not sad no. It feels a lot better; more fluid, more natural, no hidden rules. We will just have to pay a close attention to what happens and make any adjustments where necessary. It was an essential step towards a better future experience for players.

What kind of ratio between offence/defence is there with this double swap meta, relative to how it was? Am I going to be doing 3.8k hydro+geomancy weapon swaps on a guard or2.4-3k (I forget) on warrior? How are condi builds affected and are their condi application skills as important now?

Hydro and Geo don’t scale with power anymore. Their flat damage values are very low now.

Most sigils will still have their same internal cooldown(all on swaps will). So technically it’s not double efficiency for warriors however, it depends how you look at it I suppose.

Rangers have some cool things coming too! Much needed power ranger lub! It’ll be all positive reactions right?!!

Hopefully this is enough to hold you over for now. I won’t be here for much longer but I know you guys deserve more communication regarding this patch so I’m doing what I can where I can. Pay attention to the forums in the near future as well as Ready Up episodes to find out as much as you can. Submit those user clips! Lets see your skills.

By technically I mean that we are giving some nice changes to ele but there is so much going into that patch that trying to gauge the meta or what will be strong/too stronk/weak/too weak is just not possible right now.

I’ll say that internally staff Ele has turned out to be strong, scary strong against condi meta. The glass cannon specs seem to be unchanged but the tankier dps specs have seen substantial improvements. Enough? Arguable. At least ele will now bring the cleanse support it has needed. Will the Signet of Resto change be enough to make it super strong? Arguable, but it’s definitely a viable option now. Do you want to lose the cleanse from ether renewal? Probably not.. but dagger specs see a nice sustain boost from using RS. Additionally, our changes has brought a new role to ele and it’s one hell of a role! I’m sure plenty of people will have tons of fun messing around with what they can do on ele now.

Regardless, it’s just really hard to say where ele will stand on the tier chart in PvP with double on swap sigils coming in alone. This might over scale certain specs into godliness while bringing other classes up to par at the same time. We will have to see the implications of what a bunch of stacked up hydromancy, energy, battle, and geomancy sigils do to the tides of battles. Every single class has such drastic improvements to sustain through this that it makes glass cannon specs stand up stronger against foes, at the same time it allows full tank builds to bring out more damage while supporting their group. There is a lot more might flying around. With warrior 5 second weapon swaps, they can utilize 4 different on swap sigils as compared to what most classes can do with 2.

It’s just difficult to gauge at this point with so much happening. I really wish we could speak about what else is changing, but hopefully time flies quickly and we can deliver the news asap. Ele will however, be in a better place than it was I assure you.

I’ve played against Grouch on a decap engi in team Q. I assume that decap engis are perfectly valid in Anet’s eyes.

Hey guys,

Just wanted to pop in here and mention that one of the ways for us to access a build’s strength is to get in and play it ourselves. Grouch playing decap doesn’t correlate with the balance team thinking this build is in a good place in sPvP. You’d be surprised how some of us feel about it in reality.

I thought you guys should know I’m writing an e-mail to the team as we speak about its prevalence and perception in the game. You guys have done a great job messaging out against the build, it’s gotten our attention. No promises on things changing about this build in the near future but you might see some things get better/worse with the secret changes coming in for the feature build that will potentially address this.

Thanks again for all the discussion on various topics. It may seem as if we don’t read these forums anymore but in reality we have a very loaded patch we’ve been slaving on for the past few months.

Nothing is honestly off the table but surely the clock is ticking for this build. Would be super useful feedback if you guys continue to go into depth on your thoughts (when you post) of why these things would be bad for Structured PvP. This way we could forward your feedback into our concerns/feedback list for them.

Assuming all combos and gear were brought over what would be your list of “yes’s” and “no’s”

Keep in mind clean and healthy discussion is encouraged and that all rune sets have undergone slight number tweaks along with most sigils.

We don’t have currently have plans for creating “new” stats combos but moreso are considering what and what not to “bring over”.

I think they are talking about stacking intensity boons and not duration boons. I’ll agree that we don’t really message out how duration stacking works.

Funniest thing I’ve ever heard in PvP?

Hard to say. Map chat in Anvil Rock’s Heart of the Mists at launch was like the wild west. I’m sure we could fill a few pages of quotes.

Recently I was in a TSS solo arena match and before the match started there was this warrior communicating with the team.. but in his own secret language known only to himself. From this we knew he was confident in his own abilities. Anyways once the match started he successfully captured home point and held it until the 8:30 mark. He valiantly defended the point as our team lost Tranquility. At this point in time he stated in team chat, “NME GOT OP BUFF”. After successfully communicating this to our team and before recapping the node he just lost from the buff, he immediately jetted for the ice cave. He was friendly enough at this point to also communicate to us that he would now defend the ice cave area as if he thought the buff would be respawning shortly. He had banners popped and he was now roaming the ice cave. Despite our desperate attempts from our team to get him out of the ice cave, we were unsuccessful. As the game ended he left us with “where buff?”

His noteworthy accomplishments and communication were remembered from that day. The experience was logged and recommendations on improving the learning experience for that map was forwarded along

Ahh! For some reason I confused Sigil of Renewal with Restoration. Yeah any sigil with an internal cooldown is shared across all sigils. This means those two sigils in combination will have drastically inconsistent results if function at all.

Ele: Cleansing Fire Trait DOES NOT WORK!

The way this trait functions is that once your character acquires three unique conditions you will proc a version of cleansing fire, removing three conditions. The animation that plays plays yellow streaks that circle down your character from top to bottom while casting the aoe fire proc. There was an internal bug where this trait was functioning oddly when the trait comes off cooldown if you have conditions presently on you. What it should do in this instant is look for the next three applied unique conditions and proc once you’ve acquired them. Please let us know if this is not what you are seeing and provide as accurate as a description as possible. This saves us a lot of time!

This is a global issue happening to all classes. We are investigating this issue and will get a fix in ASAP.

Reports indicate this can happen after leap skills, picking up bundles, or teleporting. If any more reproducible steps come in please add it to this thread and I’ll add it to my report.
