Ecchishin – Shirayuki Aline (Norn Ranger)
(edited by Ushiromiya Xyrius.1470)
i am currently lv 80 and used to have a hard time with this job, however, that was solely because i kept on complaining about how squishy this job is, how long the CD is, how useless confusion is for pve, and so on
however, this job is strong in illusions (especially phantasms), so that is where we have to exploit and improve, rather than criticizing the other aspects. CDs are not so much disturbing me. With Condition Damage trait filled to 30, Mind Wrack only has the CD of 10s. While it is on CD, you can use Distortion or produce illusions to distract the enemies (the 2nd Precision Major Trait, the Deceptive Evasion, gives you an illusion when you dodge, which is very helpful).
you can even guard TWICE! with Scepter at the Main Hand (#2) and Sword at the Off Hand (#4). Not only blocks, it damages hard.
no job is perfect. rather than complaining about the weak sides (it NEVER ends), try exploiting the strong sides and see if it fits you…

i go for toughness rather than vitality,
rather than having a huge pool of life but squishy, i’d better have a small pool but persistent
oh, okay
thank you very much!!
I’m not sure of where to post this into, but please let me ask,
I am about to transmute items with these transmutation stones but I dont have very many of them so I need to be sure what to do,
say that I have a ’Jormag’s Breath’ and an Exotic ’Berserker’s Pearl Sabre’ lv 80
I can use the Fine Transmutation Stone to transmute them with no chance of failure, right?
In which position should I put the Jormag’s Breath so that after transmutation, the item name will still be Jormag’s Breath but with the status of the Berserker’s Pearl Sabre?
Thank you very very much for the answers!
and
Merry Christmas!
:D
I don’t know if any of them at ANet read this, but I will still post this anyway (hopefully they read this and hear what us players say and at least think about it)
throw in some very-hard-to-beat bosses in field maps (could be EDragons, or anything else ANet has in mind, not just the ones that will die eventually after being beaten up and down by hundreds of zergs)
they should possess numerous patterns of attacks and skills
and they should drop a special token (to be exchanged to a special accessory that has one special slot, that was unable to be filled by accessories found from monster drops, crafted, or bought from shops)
aaanndd finally, please make Legendary and some of the mats needed to craft it “Account Bound”……
and the way to obtain them should not be from ‘monster drops’….try some other thing, like accomplishing a hellish quest or kill invaders in wvwvw
after all, Legendary is for everyone…
honestly, i was quite bored (not to say sick) about these “super-strong-and-evil-and-invincible” monsters (and dragons and other humanoids) that stay back and let their minions do the work for them, while they are waiting to be reborn or re-awakened…
They sounded LESS scary and terrifying!! Imagine someone who orders everyone around while they do nothing….
that doesn’t seem ‘powerful’ to me, i think ‘pitiable’ maybe more suitable here
if these EDs do the work by themselves, I believe we can feel that their threat is truly threatening
:D
GW2 is not a ‘not grinding’ MMO
it is more like ’don’t-have-to-grind-but-you-sometimes-have-to’ MMO
:D
entering dungeons daily is a form of grinding, no matter what they say. No RPG game is ‘not grinding’…
what matters here is how we decide to grind, the lenient way, or the hard way
yes, that’s true. So that we can wield a Legendary with pride, different from those who obtain it through shortcuts
And all we need is to “Account bound” those legendaries and some of the req’d mats (not all of them). So we can still buy some and do the hard work to obtain the rest.
and I personally think that the current system of Legendary is meant for people with high resource (either money, or goldsellers). Mere perseverance and skills are far from enough to obtain one of those Legendaries
Shed away humanity?? Noooo way. An RPG game is not really fun without a human race in it, I think.
Probably this is crazy, but why don’t they make Risens or Ghosts? Sounds evil and weird, I know, but probably this is fun and fresh….
:D
@RJ Zephyroth.6473 yes, sword is so nice but getting into melee range and attacking while the enemies are running around is quite hard. Right now I’m also trying my best to play 1H Sword.
I love i-Warden, it flurries awesomely. The bad thing is, it can’t move.
well, thank you for your suggestion
and you’re right…it has been a dilemma for me (and it still is), because staff gives off many conditions but mind wrack mains on power rather than condition damage
okay then, i guess the best way is to try it out
:D
Having said that, I’ll share something my instructors at RL military service in pilot’s training told us:
The joy of flight is loving every time you do the pre flight checks, starting the engine, saluting the technical personnel, taxing and taking off. It’s not just about getting to the range to release your bombs.
If you don’t like the process of take off, then you lost the joy of flight, and if you lost that, a pilot is not the job for you.Taking it to this game, and especially since there is no tank-healer-dps trinity, if people don’t like starting the fight and finding out what group they’re in, and what they can contribute, but instead want the quick in-fight-collect loot-go out then maybe they shouldn’t do the content.
I find it nice that in this game people usually are willing to help and have the patience to explain and help, and I enjoy that when I have more experience.
hey, I really like this comment. Thumbs up for your instructor there. We all should learn from him (or her )
@Orpheus.7284 well, you get it right there. Some people are just too “efficient” to enjoy the game or in this case, a dungeon.
I personally like exploring the maps rather than grinding in same events over and over again and zerging at the Straits, but so very few people share the same joy.
The environment and ambience, the challenge in completing the vistas and skill points, and the variousness of the events, they are all FUN. Fun is what we are looking for, right???
Let me know if you or others are moving to the Sea of Sorrows Server, I’d be more than happy to accompany you travelling around

fyi, (probably others will find this useful) I changed my key config.
To turn the character around, I use Q and E instead of A and D. I am accustomed to W-A-S-D movement type, so I am awkward at moving with Q-W-E-S
Basically, keyboard turn is the action of your character turning around and forcing the camera to follow your character
and
the mouse turn is to rotate the camera while the character stands still in their current position. They have different uses.
You can prove it in mining or chopping down a tree or reviving someone. If you use keyboard turn, the action will stop because the character turns around. In the other hand, if you use mouse, the action will still carried on while you look at the situation around you
simply said, the keyboard turn is slower but, when you press W, the camera will not rotate back (any action is canceled)
the mouse turn is faster but when you press W, the camera will rotate back to the direction your character is currently facing (any action is still carried on)
try, and you will understand
hope that helps

oh, of course they do not differ between classes, sorry for the choice of words. Just want to make things clear
:D
anyway, tyvm guys
@Kelthien.8593 here’s what I mean
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fgAQNAW7MGRQ9Q7yOsjkiWD2KpA3uQA
maybe its a little too PvE minded and I don’t really name the build, I just love mind wrack and I like using the weapon set
how’s that?
@RJ Zephyroth.6473 scepter is not that bad in PvE, although the enemies still know where the real Mesmer is, Scepter’s speed of reproducing clone is unmatched by other weapons. 3 attacks give birth to one condition bomb. Quite convenient, I think
(edited by Ushiromiya Xyrius.1470)
I’m looking for these weapons (of Exotic rarity) for my lvl 80 human Mesmer:
Scepter
Pistol
1H Sword
Staff
do you guys have any suggestions or urls i can click to check out or preview the appearances of Exotic weapons of that class?
I’d really appreciate it
:D
8/10 for “Talbot” and the original idea of the werewolf-form of your own char
I named my Mesmer Xyr Cherubina, my Ranger Shirayuki Aline
I have always used “Cherubi” as my nickname in games (not Cherubi as a pokemon, but from Cherubim -if you haven’t heard of it, try google, it works well) thus I tried my best to convert it to be a female name (because human females are awesome… -if you know what i mean-)
and for Shirayuki Aline, I love the whiteness of snow, meaning Shirayuki in Japanese. Aline? 50% randomness and 50% because it sounds like Arin in Pangya (an online golf game)
there, critics and suggestions, please? tyvm
:D

hey, this is awesome!!
i love writing and reading and games. But I never expect all them to be mixed into one. very cool!!
haven’t read your novel though, just reading the title of this topic tickles me to express my surprise and excitement.
i love the weapon sets, but i have a question about the traits
so, what do you guys think if I give extra 10 points to Domination and 5 points to Illusions, and take away the 20 points of Chaos, and change the skills to Mental Torment and Rending Shatter?? (a little bit too PVE-ish build, but what do you think, anyway?)
btw, what is the main benefit of using a greatsword?? along with sword, it does not create many illusions. i think staff and scepter+something is the best for mesmer
