Actually, I just noticed that the very first page of the forums ( https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum ) has a little column on the right hand side, cleverly disguised by the word “announcements”. In this column is an intricately ciphered code that may have shed light on the situation even sooner had we decrypted it’s arcane meaning at the start.

(I didn’t see it till now myself)

According to the 9th or 10th reply in that post, there was an in game message that said the servers will be going down for maintenance.

Movement locked in Lunatic Inquisition

Tonight, while playing Lunatic Inquisition, I’ve experienced a bug where I get hit as a villager and my ability to move completely shuts down. It’s not a ghost ability, it’s a straight up bug, because I can still use attacks but I just can’t move. The best example I could give would be a game where I got hit as I used hide in shadows. The ghosts were new, so they ran right past me. Afterwards I stood stuck for at least a solid 30 seconds before another ghost came along and killed me. I had time to for hide in shadows cool down while I was standing there.

Edit: It’s when I get hit with the ghost scream.

Strange low hum in Gendarran.

So I was running around Gendarran Fields a few months ago (completely forgot about it till now) when I noticed a low humming noise, sort of like what you hear in Asuran labs, emanating west of Applenook (It’s too far away to be the Aetherblade JP). It’s coming from a low plateau west and slightly north of the words Cornucopia Fields, and it helps if you turn down the music but leave other sounds high. While looking around the area, I also found a strange door in the basement under one of the nearby houses. There’s also a whispers agent nearby (around the north end of the plateau), though dialogue with her is just a warning about the local pirates.

Is there something hidden there that I just haven’t found, or is it probably something that hasn’t been put into play yet?

Edit/derp: Just found Frozz, the Asura hiding in plain sight whose working on an agricultural golem in his lab… er barn. Mystery probably solved. >.>

Why use precision/conditions/crit damage...

It just means they are no longer universally the most desirable stats in EVERY SINGLE SITUATION and that it’s time to start utilizing new builds and equipment, which is probably what A-net is hoping for. Crits are still the way to go for dungeon running and fighting champions. Heaven forbid we should be forced to mix things up every now and then.

So no… we can’t just sit there on auto-attack, critting away a world boss for phreephatlootslol, which is pretty much what a lot of people have come to expect, running around in champ trains waiting for world bosses to spawn so they can be taken down in less than 5 minutes for loot that far outweighs the effort that went into getting it.

We never should have been able to in the first place.

So I tried the Nvidia fix posted by the devs, and afterwards my screen actually went into power saving mode (the music played in the background though). After rebooting (manually), I’m back at square one.

Incase it matters, I’ll give a better description. A black screen with a flickering blue bar at the top. When it’s doing this it constantly blocks any attempts to alt+tab it away and constantly pops to the forefront so that I can’t close it with task manager. Occasionally the flickering will stop so that the screen just goes plain black and, if I’m quick, I can pull up task manager before that little blue epileptic bar starts going all bat kitten again, and close it down.

I’ve also notice that whenever I actually get task manager to close the gw2 client/black screen, I am unable to restart my computer via start menu. I get an error “boink” sound and wind up have to shut down manually. Also, it seems to cause League of Legends to go on the fritz (could not connect to direct 3d or some such). Neither of those issues occurs until I’ve tried to play GW2.

(edit #2: Almost forgot. If I try to use the client after closing it with task manager, it just locks up and stays at the “Downloading 0%” part of startup.)

On the same boat. Screen just seems to go black and twiddle it’s thumbs. When it first started happening, at least the music would cue, with no visual. Now it doesn’t even do that.

Faolain (spoilers)

However, you highlighted something very pertinent. The Nightmare Court still see the dragons as a threat and want to destroy them.

My point still stands that Anet wouldn’t want to associate the Nightmare Court with a dragon because it would undermine everything they’re supposed to stand for.

That being said I suppose it is actually viable that Faolain could be some sort of minion, but I think that would still exist independent of the rest of the Nightmare Court. You pointed out that she’s a mesmer so yes, perhaps the Nightmare Court are like puppets on her strings? But even then that might be a bit of a stretch.

There is a meta event in Caledon Forest ‘The Battle for Wychmire Swamp’ which hints at a darker force at work, something outside of the Nightmare Court (which is also hinted at with Zone Green at the Infinity Reactor Coil which people now theorize is pointing to the 6th Elder Dragon with plant based powers).

I did point out that they view the dragons as a threat, but then who says the dragons see each other as anything else? I kind of doubt that the dragons intend to share the world with each other any more than they intend to share it with anyone else.

Recruiting dupes to throw at your enemies is classic villain 101.

For lack of a better comparison, I’m going to point to the second Avatar series (The Last Air-bender one, not the blue alien one).

The main character is Avatar Korra, the Avatar who follows Aang. The main antagonist is the leader of a cult of ordinary people who despise bending and benders, and who has a mysterious power that allows him to remove a bender’s abilities permanently. However, it turns out that his ability is actually an extremely refined form of blood bending, and that he is in fact a water/blood bender. He is, in essence, everything that his followers abhor.
This sort of plot twist is not particularly new, nor is it considered a poor storyline tactic. It’s just a case of the man behind the man turning out to be everything the man in front hates.

Again, it could be a dragon or it could be something else. The man behind the man is a fairly common trope and often acts as a sort of lubricant in the sorting algorithm of evil. Having it turn out to be what the man hates isn’t unheard of by any stretch of the imagination.

As for undermining what they stand for, the Nightmare Court aren’t supposed to stand for something one would really want to keep on a pedestal. Terrorism in the name of racial/ideological purity never really is, let alone becoming a horror for any reason. At best it’s a tragedy.

These aren’t misunderstood anti-heroes. They’re villains with a seductively skewed viewpoint. And villains, by nature, are usually (though not always) designed to be undermined, whether by heroes or themselves.

The nightmare court seeks to engulf the world in nightmare, but they themselves aren’t immune to it. They subject themselves and each other to it by nature. And if you think about it, what could be a greater nightmare than discovering everything you stand for and believe in is a lie, and that all your neatly crafted justifications for the things you’ve done were built on the very thing you thought you were fighting?

However, all of my suppositions are just that and A-net will do what they will do regardless. More than anything, I just like airing out my thoughts and love playing the devil’s advocate.

True, but not necessarily the end of the matter.

Caithe mentions that Faolain and herself encountered a “darkness” which she shunned and Faolain embraced. She doesn’t mention whether this was before or after the founding of the Nightmare Court.

Cadeyrn, the founder of the Nightmare Court, is depicted as having formed it in a fit of jealousy, which is to say that his motives for doing so probably aren’t purely for philosophical or altruistic (if that’s the right word) reasons. It occured in a moment where he would be easy to manipulate.

Ironic that Caithe would trigger it the way she did… or did she?

Isn’t Faolain a mesmer? Slight of hand, manipulation and illusion are her stock and trade. What is a figurehead if not another distracting image to be discarded when inconvenient? And as “Caithe” said, Cadeyrn is just another Sylvari.

The philosophy may be built on the idea of shunning outside influences, but who can be certain that a seed wasn’t planted from an outside hand all the same?

Why betray one when you can betray many through the one? Or better still, convince them to betray themselves?

What is one more lie?

What is one more secret?

It may or may not be a dragon, but who knows what really lurks in dream and nightmare?

“…we gather in nightmare. We look to the darkest part of our spirits. The covetous hand, the lying heart, the knife that betrays a friend: we call upon these, and we see their power. For what are we, in the end, if not creatures of power? It will take strength to defeat the dragons, and strength does not come by turning away any weapon, no matter how vicious or how cruel. We will use them all.” Cadeyrn lounged on his throne with a careless, prideful slouch. A crown of golden vine glittered on his forehead as courtiers bowed and whispered before him, hanging on Cadeyrn’s every word, their eyes as lightless as the space between the stars.

“We, the sylvari, are the future. It is our time. We must leave behind the fears of awakening. Let go the stone that weighs us down. We were born to be more than this. We were born with a darkness in our Dream and in our heart that we could embrace…if only the Mother were not so afraid of the night. It is time to show her that her children are more than even she has dreamed we could be.

“If the sylvari are to survive, we must learn from the poison thorn and the stinging nettle, the vine that crushes the very sapling which holds it to the light. We will raise the nightmare. We will see Tyria remade in our image.
“We will grow until nightmare swallows the world."

(snip)

Well said.

I have feedback on my bar and if we’re in a melee fight that isn’t worth swapping things around (champion icebrood in CoE), I’ll throw down feedback bubble just to create the combo field and watch as the smart melee start popping chaos shields and rangers pelt the enemy with confusion.

Nobody here has mentioned Illusion of Life, which is great for fights like Subject Alpha, where the carpet of doom means that reviving is suicide, and it gives the party member a chance to either kill an add and rally or just get the hell out of range to be revived safely.

Staff and trident basic attacks, as well as mirrorblade add random boons/might when they bounce to party members.

As for portal only being useful in the swamp fractal, that was just laughable.

Like you said there are lots of annoying instance hazards that a nimble mesmer can just make go away with portal, not to mention boss fights that require levers pulled/lazers fired/crystals used to power fans that can require fewer people on button push duty due to portal/blink which results in more dps from extra people focusing on the boss.

I experienced this issue during the Halloween event, while doing the Clock tower. I haven’t had it since then, but yea, at the time I was getting it for far too little written on my part (maybe like 3 sentences in 1 minute).
