sorry, but no. you can’t get the torch by playing the content normally. only once you start repeating stuff can you get enough baubles.

So you are telling me that I did it wrong? Because no, I never grinded once.

I played world 1-3, bought the wallet. I then played world 1 trib mode and got enough for the torch.

Huzzah, no grinding, no repeating any content at all.

Stop whining.

I never had to grind once for the torch or any of the items in SAB, I got them by, shock and horror, playing the content.

It is your choice to grind to get them, you do not need to grind the one zone over and over. That is purely your choice. Playing world 1-2-3 nets you enough to get the wallet by the time you get to zone 3.

Playing any trib mode nets you enough to pretty much get the torch outright. Let alone playing them all.

From my experience world one tribulation takes me roughly an hour all up to do all three. This is with still making silly mistakes. Your first time will take an hour per zone however.

For world 2, zone one takes about 30min, world 2 and 3 take about an hour each. Once again, they took almost double the first time I did it.

Prepare to be committed to spending a few days the first time round across them all, then being able to do them in all in a 4 hour period after your first time.

You can get 7 baubles from world 1, which should take you no more then thirty minutes.

On top of the 3 continue coins this equates to 38 coins, which is 190 lives for 30min effort. This can be done every day. There is no reason for lives to be a complaint, or seen as a grind.

At worst in trib mode you’ll spend 50 lives per zone on a bad run.

That kind of stuff was not mandatory in older games. If I needed an item to progress, I had to go get it. That usually meant running a dungeon or completing puzzles or what-not. I didn’t have to go grind out money over and over.

Want to run a dungeon to get the wallet/torch? Do Trib mode 1-1 and 1-2, each rewards roughly 300 baubles. Huzzah. Thats a hard dungeon and it gets you it instantly.

That or you can farm secrets for it, your choice. It takes an entire run of World 1 normal (~25min) to get 250 baubles ordinarily.

I feel this topic is needed, not just for the players but for the devs to show their work was appreciated.

Far too often we only talk and post about the negative things. More often then not, this is the minority too. Those pleased with a product never feel the need to comment on it.

So I just wanted to thank the devs for an amazing experience, both in tribulation and out of it.

World 1 Trib I now run daily, taking ninety minutes of my time to do all three. I feel it was excellently crafted, where even though spikes may seem cheap, they had telling patterns from level to level.

World 2-1 is a nice smooth level, no real issues, I do wish it was a bit harder on both trib and normal however.

2-2 reminds me far too much of my days in Dark Souls, having to sit back and look before I charged in or else I would get punished for my own recklessness. Really well done.

2-3 was an amazing platforming experience, both in normal and in tribulation where we had to use those clouds to our advantage. The way you force a player to learn to jump on the cloud in a safe environment before having to do it again in dangerous environments is what game design is truly about.

All in all a well done job developers, you deserve more praise.

Hrm, I do miss the rapids..

I did however like the change to the water fall cross. It was much harder before and almost frustratingly so. The log pattern does change and to get across the whole thing flawlessly and with out hitting a fish was almost some what luck based. When I completed on tribulation it took me quite a few tries having to jump all the way back up each time. I found myself standing at the top watching for the perfect log set up. Must have been up there just standing and watching for about 20 minutes total, lol.

I agree with you wholeheartedly that 2-1 feels like a cakewalk now compared to what it once was, but I thought I should highlight this.

There does indeed appear to be a perfect log setup, but it runs every 2min, I learnt this last night on trib mode, so its not overly terrible. That was a nice change however, it made it easier for those on normal, but kept it difficult for us on trib. The other changes simply made trib just as easy since 2-1 trib is 80% normal mode.

World 2, Zone 3...that's it.

I so hope that Anet never listens to anything you have to say. 2-3 was perhaps the most enjoyable zone pre-nerfs, I had a blast. The boss was simple and easy to telegraph, the charge portion was a bit annoying, but you have to just be very careful with your dodges.

The fact you struggled on infantile tells me you really do need to re-evaluate what you are doing. I don’t want developers catering to babies anymore, they’ve ruined enough genre’s because of this.

Don't bring World 2 Zone 2 back.

Please no, 2-2 is fine.

I’m horribly saddened after what people like you did to 2-1. I beat it prior to the changes on normal, I did tribulation mode after the changes and it was easier. It was forgiving at any missed jump or mistake.

Don’t complain and whine about 2-2 when you simply need to be better.

Just letting you know that I think a wonderful job was done. I honestly think a part of the issue is that the majority of players here are a part of the casualised crowd. Because game design has been reduced to little effort for a quick reward many players have forgotten how difficult games can be.

I’m in love with what you have done and it really does remind me of an old nineties platformer. I honestly think anyone here who picked up an old Castlevania would be kittening to high heaven as well. Yet they are some of the best platformers out.

Secondly, I thoroughly enjoyed the gauntlet. It was enjoyable, it was tough, it was unique fights. Even with new mechanics it was easy to figure out what you needed to do.

At worst you would fail a fight 1-2 times if you didn’t understand immediately, such as my case with the fire rings killing you if you stepped outside them. None of the fights make you question what am I doing or how can I possibly beat this.

BS.

Are you calling my enjoyment bullkitten? Are you calling the fake I died twice on the fire rings bullkitten? The fact I died once on chomper? I guess its the fact I had a mostly easy time up until the final boss?

Each fight started with me reading what the champion said in its name, now even if you’re a slow reader, that takes 2s.

From there I immediately watched the surrounding and their animation, dodged whenever they telegraphed something, since I was unsure what would instantly down me, or just do a tiny bit of damage.

Go into any fight and play smart and careful and you will come out on top.

I got it using a greatsword on a ranger, don’t ask me how that even works. I was farming Subject 7 and with a massive cleave weapon, somehow got it.

I would assume as a mesmer using greatsword and kiting around the edges would work well.

I’m a Settlers BM Ranger, I have done the entire gauntlet without having to change or retrait except for the final boss. If anything, a BM condition ranger has the easiest time ever.

Easiest time ever — when a substantial portion of the class designed DPS (the pet) is missing for most of the fight? Surely you are joking/trolling.

95% of my deaths in the Gauntlet have come from the timer. I rarely die inside the dome, but with my pet MIA, I simply cannot dish out the required DPS in the short time allotted. I use GS/LB, which are not great weapons for condition damage, esp. now that GS2 is vuln rather than bleed and LB3 is stealth. But switching up traits, gear ($$$), and weapons means that I have to completely relearn how to play — just to advance in the gauntlet.

I consider this very unreasonable.

You are a bad ranger, nothing more said. By no means am I a good ranger, nor do I claim it, I merely know how to play my class.

The pet never died in any of the fights bar for the final boss. No fight ever took me more then 60s with conditions, unless a mechanic made me do otherwise.

Since I normally main in Settlers, I even retraited for my berserker gear and did every boss again with sword/horn and greatsword. And guess what, you can kill almost any champion in under 15s. My surprise was beating subject 7 in that time and getting the achievement while also having 5 gambits.

All this has told me is any ranger in any gear setup is just a bad player. If you are complaining as a ranger, you are the reason rangers get a bad name.

Ranger is the worst of the classes to cope with Liadri. Get her to the final phase and sustaining only your damage on her because your pet is dead from the beginning is just such shoddy display of game design.

If you’re not going to get all classes to work properly, don’t bother adding classes you don’t plan to fix. Outside spvp ranger is just one ball of frustration. The pet is instantly dead in wvw. It is instantly dead in dungeons. It is instantly dead in gauntlets. It’s instantly dead in DE’s with aoe happy bosses.

I’m sorry but you are giving rangers a bad name, my bed doesn’t die in WvW, it doesn’t die in dungeons or even fractals.

Collect the meat, it gives you an insane damage buff. All you need is three stacks, and then drop the dog.

If you’re having trouble beating the dog to the meat, chuck on your classes respective CC and slows.

The fact people are saying they need berserker gear or equivalent is odd to me.

I did everything as a BM Ranger in Settlers/Apoth bar the final boss, for her I had to switch it up to a shortbow and the equivalent traits to make that better.

The only thing that gave me trouble was the asuran pyro, because I didn’t realise I had to stay in the ring. The fact my pet blows up mines made deadeye with 5 gambits even easier as well.

Rangers probably have all of this the easiest. Rampage as One for Tornadoes, Wolves and A/D slows for Chomper, pets blowing up everything for Deadeye.

Xsorus, i have a question. if you were running something similar but with melee weapons. and you ran a geo sigil on the primary wep for each set, then ran the bleed on crit sigils. The with traits you ran the marksman @ 50% sharpening stone trait along with the skirmish % to bleed on crit.

Would all that stack? because depending on the build that could be a constant 25 bleeds all the time.

I’m actually tinkering with a build similar to that right now, still tanky settlers gear and apoth ascendeds, but a 20/10/25/15/0 build which boasts 1200 power/precision and 1350 condition before corruption stacks or tuning crystal (roughly 1700 with those added in).

I’ve only really lost 400 in healing (still at 900) and the BM traits but its looking promising with some more tweaks.

Crippling Talon range is bugged, with off hand training it states it is 1200 range.

However, upon testing, it is not even 850 range. I am tempted to say its 800 range, and this is a huge deal in WvW and PvP when a long range cripple does not work.

Ranger - Crippling Talon Range bugged

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Vermillion.1429

After testing I have noticed Crippling Talon’s Range is bugged. With Off-Hand Training it is meant to be 1200 Range, yet it misses targets that the torch (also 1200 range with off-hand training) can easily hit.

Even more shocking is targets that my main-hand axe (900 range) can hit, Crippling Talon with its 1200 range says is out of range. This can only mean Crippling Talon has a range of 850 or slightly less, even with off-hand training.

This is both PvE and WvW related and is a huge issue in WvW when what should be a reliable slow is missing targets that are 900-1200 range away.

Loved the video, if only for the monarch’s leap trick you did in one of them. Spent the past 10min practicing that smoothly.

I can tell he at least has 10 points into Marksminship for Keen Edge, and probably only 10 points. I assume its Settlers/Apothecary with Dwayna Runes given the Regen from Heal.

My guess is 10/0/30/10/20, greed makes me want at least 25in BM for the power bonus; which is utterly pointless in reality.

If you’re on your game, you can generally take on 1v3. I’ve taken to eating up other zerker rangers quite happily while roaming, nothing explodes faster.

Fixing the Ranger and other issues

in Ranger

Posted by: Vermillion.1429

Vermillion.1429

As I’ve been reading over this forum as well as playing in game and talking with others, and forming my own opinions along the way I’ve come across a few interesting ways to change and diversify the ranger.

The ranger currently lacks any focus. We can DPS, but not as good as other classes. We can support but not as good as other classes (though this is improving slightly in the coming patch). We can condition damage, which is currently our only strength but on the whole, condition is vastly ignored at current in favor of berzerker status.

In line with these points, there are a few changes that can be made.

Firstly, changing PvE content as a whole. Bosses at current have high HP pools and not much toughness. If the HP pools were lowered and toughness raised so the EHP was the same, Condition builds on the whole will get more focus and it will loosen the grip Berzerkers have on this game.

I would highly hope Anet disapproves that 70% of their players are full berzerker gear and pigeonholed completely.

Secondly, if Rangers are to be more support based, which seems to be the current trend, spirits need a complete reworking. At current they are a neat idea, but useful in very few circumstances. They are far to brittle and die to many things, especially any AoE in dungeons.

Through Traits, or innately from the get go spirits will need some or all of these changes:

1. AoE immunity.
2. The buff procs on both on hit, and on attack.
3. If two is used, on hit stays the same, but on attack changes to might/cripple/freeze, and so on. Based on the spirit and its element.

This would greatly improve the support options of the ranger.

Thirdly, if DPS is to be our pigeonhole and we are to be stuck with the pet taking 30-40% of our damage make it so that through trait or innately, all boons are shared equally between pet and player. I cannot count the times I’ve given my pet over 25 stacks of might while I’m sitting here feeling like I have a pea-shooter. Almost all ranger skills favor in buffing the pet and ignoring ourselves.

If sharing all boons is considered too strong, then the trait can include sharing all conditions as well.

These are just my thoughts, but I feel they would make nice steps in diversifying the ranger, making them more viable and as a whole stopping the berzerker mindset from ruining all of the PvE content.
