Sieran was SUPER annoying. While her sacrifice was noble and all, she was extremely scatterbrained and (frankly) stupid. She seemed to go from completely naive to completely selfless in about 15 minutes which was quite jarring. Her death didn’t affect me at all. I’ve only got one char, it’ll be interesting for my next one to see if one of the others is a better more rounded character I’ll actually care about.
That, sir, is one fine lookin’ Top Hat
I’m still pretty noobish (been playing about 2 months or so) and am still confused by ALL the different currencies.
I’m still completely confused by the “rules” (and I use that term VERY loosely) about what you can sell, and what you can salvage, and what you can’t.
I think you can sell anything that isn’t Account Bound, right?
You can Deposit crafting materials. Except Foxfire Clusters, which are crafting materials, but don’t have a place to go.
You can salvage nearly everything, except the things you can’t. Sometimes I can’t salvage stuff which is Soulbound. Sometimes I can.
I still get really disappointed when I get a better piece of armour and find that I can’t sell or salvage my old gear (usually in an attempt to get my Rune back), and I have to just destroy it because that character will never use it again and I can’t do anything else with it…
Basically, it’s the exceptions that confuse me :P
…. I had edited my post to reflect Memphis saying Waypointing within a map resets it, but now they have edited their post to remove that, so I’m back to being confused again.
- I didn’t swap weapons (except see below) – I use double pistol exclusively (the rune is only on one of the pistols)
- I didn’t change maps
- I didn’t use a kit (although rhapsody says that doesn’t reset it anway)
- I didn’t get downed
I may have gone into water (I don’t remember) which will swap weapons and therefore cancel it out.
However, I definitely remember it running out while I was firmly running around on land, not going into water.
Ah… maybe I dove into water… maybe. I did not get downed at any point (as I said in the original post). I didn’t switch weapons or use kits either. Will investigate further.
Edit: Ah waypointing – that’s entirely possible. Thanks!
Hi Folks,
I picked up a Major Sigil of Corruption yesterday for my Condition Damage Engineer. The Sigil says:
Gain a charge of +7 condition damage each time you kill a foe, five if you kill an enemy player. (Max 25 stacks; ends on down.)
What – exactly – does “ends on down” actually mean? I was assuming it meant when you are knocked down, or reduced to 0 hit points, or defeated, but the charges seem to run out at more or less random times. Sometimes they’ll last 10 minutes or so, sometimes much less.
They seem to always reset when you change maps (fair enough) but they were resetting on me during maps as well, without me being knocked down/taken out.
I thought maybe “down” was short for “downtime” i.e. not in combat (weapons away and running) but it hangs around then, so that’s not it.
Help?
Cheers

So I don’t know how many people this applies to, but thought it might be interesting…. Yesterday the four PvE dailies were: Maguuma Miner, (some area) Events, and two different Fractal things. I got the first two no problems, tried diving into a Level 1 Fractal by myself and got SMASHED consistently.
So I tried PvP. Surprisingly, it wasn’t as bad as I feared it would be. There were two PvP dailies I thought I could maybe get: Capture a point (figured this would be easy) and kill three players (to be honest, I thought getting this one, since I’d never played PvP before was going to be a hard ask).
So I jumped into the PvP zone, set up my Engi pretty much exactly as I do in PvE (because that’s the build I know how to use!) and looked for a game. 2 minutes later (not too bad) we’re off. I select a map that I think has waypoints on it (but honestly I have no idea), but I get outvoted and we are playing, as far as I can tell, a “kill the other team” map. Unsurprisingly I get my kitten handed to me to begin with, but by the end of the game (our team got STOMPED, can’t remember the score but the other team got something like 4x the points we got) I had actually managed to kill two people, so I was 66% of the way towards the last daily.
Jumped into another map, waited a bit longer to join (like, 3 minutes, it still wasn’t a huge wait) and this time we did get a point-capture map. So 30 seconds into the map I had my point capture, and my daily achievement. Finished the map off (we lost again, but not by nearly as much), and managed to get 3 more kills, so actually got that achievement as well.
PvP isn’t something I’m going to do a lot of; it was very chaotic and most of the time I wasn’t really sure what was going on. But as a way to get that third achievement for your Daily Completionist, it’s not nearly as bad as I thought it would be.
Fractals, on the other hand, can go and get….
The problem is, by the time I go here and go there to get the tasks done, I’m either irritated, bored or both. I wasn’t playing during that time. I was jumping thru hoops for the rewards (which I do want).
This. A hundred times this.
What Artemis is saying (correctly, I believe) is the numbers that flash up are the cumulative total. So the Axe skill hits 5 times for 1,000 each, for example. Because it’s all one (series of) attack(s) – that is to say, the result of a single key press/click, the game tracks each individual hit and provides a visual “damage so far” total. The reason it tracks every individual hit is that any one (or more) of them can crit, or may have extra effects added on to it.
But, if you see this flash up on the screen:
1,000
2,000
3,000
4,000
5,000
You’ve just done 5,000 damage total. Not 15,000
For me (but I’m new) the “old” dailies (the ones immediately before the current system) were a kind of yardstick for “what do I want to do today?” – I’d log in with a plan like “Complete Plains of Ascalon” (like I said, I’m new :P ) and see what the dailies were and try and get as many of those as possible while also doing what I was doing. So they guided the way that I played, rather than giving me exactly things to do.
Now, I log on and it’s like “the dailies aren’t in areas I was planning on visiting today” so I don’t do them.
I do see your point about “AP should be awarded for going out of your way” – that is to say, your view on them is they are strictly extras. My viewpoint, and I suspect many others, is that when I get to the character select screen and it has that little gold progress bar which tells me – in some ways – “am I getting anywhere in this game”?
Under the previous daily system, that gold bar was consistently going up, which was a nice little psychological boost to let me know that I am, in fact, achieving something.
It’s a difference in philosophy, that’s for sure. I consider dailies to be “things that let you know you’re Doing It Right™” while you I suspect consider them to be “Extras I can go and get if I need to”.
An activity is generally the daily random PvP-like mini-game that you find during festivals. There’s an NPC on the mystic plaza that has one that changes per day, as well as things like Bell choirs, winter wonderland jumping puzzle toypocalypse and snowball arena, currently going on with wintersday.
The daily rotation ones are:
Kegbrawl, southsun survival, crabtoss and zephyr sprint (I think)
Ah ok, thanks. All they all PvP?
Please please forgive the extremely nooby question, but, well, I’m a noob
– What actually is an activity? Can someone point me to one on the wiki? Thanks all
Well, that’s a thing
That ain’t cool.
Edit: Man the swear filter is tight! I didn’t think a homonym for “dam” would have counted!
I seem to have missed something quite substantial here; if I complete one or two Dailies, do I get zero AP? Do you only get 10 (for 3 or more) or 0 (for less than 3) for completing Dailies?
I ran into the same issue a lot of players here have detailed; I spent ages trying to complete four events in Lornar’s Pass because they were all getting rushed and completed before I could get there. It’s a really un-fun experience and I don’t think I’ll be doing that any time soon.
