The problem is…you need at least some people from your server to roll with. Some of the games are so bad you can’t find enough people to do even this..they’ve simple all quit. This isn’t the WvW a lot of people were counting on…it’s simply not fun at that point.
I’m not sure how AN hasn’t seen this..it’s the anti-fun, they’ve designed a WvW game that is literally the opposite of fun for a large number of people.
@Easymode. “You’re thinking like a novice.”
I’m deliberately thinking like a novice. I’m not interested so much in fine tuning the highest level of competition as shoring up the drastic iniquity facing most server pairings. When 1-2 servers completely fold each week, it ceases to be fun for anyone. If there are 10 ballistae and 15 defenders standing out in front of your spawn, easy access to the supply camps means nothing. The best teams won’t ever find themselves in that position, so appealing to the highest caliber teams for fixes won’t address this root problem.
Good Lord, someone actually gets it. I was beginning to despair
Silly attempts at meta-gaming like this are..well..silly. This isn’t Eve, most people just want straight up, fair matches with no drama from people with too much time on their hands. This game isn’t even remotely designed with meta-gaming in mind and I have to agree that starting petty crap like this for any reason is just wasting everyone’s time. It’s a game, to be played as such, you get nothing from winning by demoralizing your opponents in this game, except a boring match.
What’s a tragedy about this whole thing is that AN has done a fine job with listening to people and implmenting fixes for this game in every sphere..except this one. It’s clearly not working out in any balanced, meaningful way, people are choosing to simply not play WvW on some servers and they refuse to even consider doing anything about it. It’s just sad, and they are going to realize it way too late when instead of having a thriving WvW community they’ll end up with 3 tiers of guild stuffed cheaters pointing fingers while the rest of the tiers sit empty, a missed opportunity.
Honestly, this entire thing smells like someone’s ego at AN involved with WvW is on the line and they just don’t care. It’s like history repeating itself with WAR and the same refusal to do anything about it until it was way, way too late.
You have a poor matchup. On matchups that are close, the game is quite fun. I would never, ever want to be on a server that dominates every game they play, that would be the anti-fun.
well supposedly we are the #4 ranked server. So if the top 3 keep getting matched up we are constantly stuck winning every week by ridiculous margins.
I’m on NSP
Yup, and now you see how that’s not going to be much fun for you. I’d seriously suggest transferring to another server further down the line with close games, it’s more fun. Too high and it sucks, too low and it sucks. Somewhere in the middle and it’s fun.

I agree OP, it’s gotten silly in some match-ups. The entire thing is becoming a number crunching stat thing and little else in some match-ups. Alas, AN as done an outstanding job with this game in just about every aspect but WvWvW were they appear to want to do nothing but hide their head in the sand and say “LA LA LA LA” over and over again. It’s seriously disappointing how un-receptive they’ve been to fixing the issues WvW currently has. I don’t think they have any plans to do any major fixes to WvWvW in regards to cheating or the huge imbalances, kludgy goals or anything else currently working poorly.
Anyone tested Ambient Occlusion via nvidia inspector with reflections ALL and super sampling on? Currently, you have to have to have reflections turned down and SS off for this to work…
There is no formal “alliance”. Ebay was just easy to shove down in the ranking, the real fight here is and was between TC and Maguuma. When ebay shows up we both just sigh, disperse them and get back to fighting. TC deserves a move up, Maguuma needs to say where they are and ebay needs a boot back down to the minors for a while, they got stomped.

Having looked into the tool that allows the fov changes, I’d say YES. It’s part of a hacking tool that does some very bad things.

Is SMAA Injector safe to use with GW2?

Posted by: VisceralMonkey.6128
SweetFX has SMAA built into it and is awesome in GW2, I use it.
Ouch. Even if and when they do fix the performance issues..that machine won’t run it well, at all.
Nothing but tears will come from going AMD with this. If you must have a notebook with an intergrated, non dedicated CPU, at least look for an Nvidia based one.
The algorithms they use for culling are very, very messsed up apparently. I think it’s also dependent on your CPU, etc, because with a 3570k at 4.5, I’ve only had this happen 1 time the entire time I’ve been playing, during a siege of Stonemist. People with less powerful CPU’s apparently have it happen quite often. They are aware of it…so maybe it will get fixed someday.
God no. You’d be better off taking a hammer and hitting yourself in the crotch. Seriously, the whole AMD vs. Nvidia thing is still something to debate..but the AMD vs. Intel thing was settled long ago, AMD makes horrible, horrible CPU’s compared to what intel offers these days. Never, ever buy AMD if there is an option between the two, at least until AMD releases an entirely new product line..if ever.
Lord, I love the grub, it’s a fun fight. It’s even more entertaining to hear the screams of rage from people on your team when people decided to fight it. It’s a game, relax, I think it’s a great people have to make that decision and there are consequences either way.
I don’t think a general cross server chat would be a good thing. I can see making it so commanders on each side can speak with each other if they accept chat requests, that way there can be some communication between losing teams but if you don’t want to chat with the other commanders, etc, you can just ignore the requests. The commander then has the responsibility to..you know..command and communicate with his server the details of the “alliance” or what’s going on.
Try using the .net remover listed below and then try installing the 2.0 version.

This guide is fantastic. I’m a level 35 guardian and I really didn’t understand a lot about my class until reading this, thanks!
I’m a guardian and this is just killing me as well, and that’s just the way it is. You either accept that you can and do have a huge impact on the way things turn out..but will never be rewarded for it, or you role another class. I’ve gotten tired of it, I’m going to re-roll, nothing else to be done for it. People don’t want support type of classes and the game won’t reward you for it like they will others, so there you go.
Exploitable Bug Caught in Action: Abusing the Character on screen limit.

Posted by: VisceralMonkey.6128
WvW is frankly, just broken in this game right now. Too many unfixed bugs and exploits leading to landslides and players quitting in frustration left and right. There’s just no point in playing on many of these servers, people are refusing to be farmed for the larger guilds/alliances using sheer numbers and issues like this to win. When it stops being fun, it stops getting played. I imagine the numbers are steadily decreasing for WvW and will continue to do so.
It should, at 4.2 that bottleneck for the GPU pretty much fades away. Not to mention, the cpu overclock will increase performance in WvW which is almost totally CPU dependent. But yeah, you did the right thing, for various reasons, this games almost requires a CPU at no less than 4.2 to not run like a dog.
Awesome at defense and annoying the enemy. Horrible at getting kill points when compared to just about every other class. Still, when I’m not playing my Guardian I miss it.
It’s a game, you’re being way too serious about a game. I love doing both those events while doing WvW. WvW is meant to be light-hearted competition, not more stupid “e-sports” nonsense. People and guilds spending tons of cash and stupid amounts of time worrying about this don’t seem to understand that.
Game makes horrible use of just about every thing hardware wise, it’s just a mess.
If removing .net 4, make sure you turn off auto-updates..it went behind me and re-installed. lol.
Annnd my performance is back to not so great, even without .net 4. Looks like a wild goose chase.
Edit: .net 4 had been re-installed by windows, turn windows update off.
(edited by VisceralMonkey.6128)
Update: Make sure you turn Windows update OFF or it will re-install .net when you aren’t looking.
———————————————-
Wow, here’s something unexpected. After reading a few posts up about removing the latest .net 4 security updates improving performance, I decided to try something similar. In my case, because I use almost no programs that require it, I uninstalled .net using the methods I linked above, and then used the uninstaller program also linked.
My stuttering when turning around, gone. My frame rates in Lions Arch, up by 10-15 fps. My fps in WvW, with everything maxed, now more close to 50 in heavy combat as opposed to the low 30’s. Subjectively, the game feels a LOT smoother.
I won’t claim this will fix you problems, I can only claim that doing it did improve my personal performance on a i5 3570k at 4.5 with a GTX 670 at 1250/3700.
One other thing that’s still too early to tell if it sticks: I’ve had trouble keeping my 670 at max clocks in WvW combat. More specifically, because the game is so CPU dependent, the card clocks down to slower speeds at times (as the 6xx series is supposed too). The problem I’ve had is that after doing this is often gets stuck and doesn’t clock back up. When playing just now, I noticed the card clocking down when no required…and clocking back up in heavy combat scenes as it is supposed to do, without getting stuck. This one I’m still uncertain about, I’ll need more WvW time to determine if it’s fixed. But, the removing .net 4 did improve my performance, in a very measurable way.
If you would like to remove .net, please first make sure you have no critical programs you use that require it, or at least be cognizant of what will stop working when it’s gone. Usually it’s helper programs like the Razer synapse app in my case.
If you’re comfortable removing it, follow these steps:
http://revenmerchantservices.com/post/Remove-net-framework-40.aspx
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2008/08/28/8904493.aspx
If removing it gives you no improvement, or you need .net back, just re-install it from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=17851
Some people have also installed the original package and NOT the updates, which seem to be the culprit, you can try that as well.
I wont promise you a miracle, as we’ve seen, different things seems to work for different people, this just worked well for me.
(edited by VisceralMonkey.6128)
VisceralMonkey, I would not uninstall .NET if I were you, I merely uninstalled the security patches that Microsoft sent and turned off automatic updates. But yes you can change the setting to Windows Updates to only install what you allow.
Oh I’ve already done it, I only had 1 program, my razer mouse settings program, using it. I’ll see if it makes any difference before re-installing.
After having issues and reformatting I kept checking Guild Wars 2 frame rates after every Windows 7 Automatic update and it dropped after a large batch of NET 4 security updates. I rolled back from that and turned off automatic updates in Windows 7 and it fixed it. There is some issue in the dot NET 4 updates that hoses Guild Wars 2 frame rates for certain people. I hate having to turn off Windows Automatic Updates but it is the only fix I have found for myself so far.
This is interesting. Is there way to selectively these updates?
Update: Found this. Might be interesting to see if it does anything.
First, here’s a guide how to remove it. Then, maybe follow up with the tool below to get rid of anything left. Keep in mind, anything you have to needs .net wont run without it. Might be worth checking it out for those who have horrible FPS though.

(it also seems to be more likely to happen when a high end model like a 670/680 is paired with a more limiting CPU, like any AMD or Core 2 model).
From what I can tell, it’s the exact opposite. I have an i5 3570k at 4.5 paired with mine. From what I’ve seen with others reporting this downclocking issue, it’s almost always those with faster cpu’s. The cpu is doing all the heavy lifting in WvW (by design) and the gpu is literally falling asleep in WvW at times. I can avoid this by forcing the video card to do things like higher af and supersampling, thus keeping it “awake” and at full clocks.

Not even remotely decent for this game, I’m sorry. Throw in an i5 and overclock to 4.2 or above.
No issues with mine.
Thats helpfull!
I know, I’m sorry. Let me re-state it. I don’t have issues with my Naga, it appears to function normally with this game. My advice is the same as posted above, clean the lense, update the drivers using synapse. If that fails, completely uninstall drivers and synapse and re-install.

Wow, yeah, that’s a defective GPU. Try another game or evga scanner as well. The 6xx series has weird issues and annoys me as well (I have a 670). The 7970 or 7950 would be a good alternative…but you lose some good things like PhysX, Nvidia Inspector, etc, etc. On the other hand, I don’t hear reports of ATI GPU’s falling “asleep” in WvW like my 670 does thanks to it downclocking because the CPU is taking over. Annoying.
(edited by VisceralMonkey.6128)
No issues with mine.
It’s worthless. Sometimes it doesn’t work (I just stand there), sometimes it teleports me to pets or engineer stuff and almost always it doesn’t heal any pc character I get lucky to actually teleport too. I don’t use it, ever.
@Svarty
I’m sorry to hear you’re not enjoying the class. You mentioned that you’re getting hit too hard, but the sword and focus, for example, gives you a total of four blocks (if you include F3) and two blinds in a single rotation. That’s six misses from a mob, player, etc. I know that you know this, but I’m trying to figure out how you’re getting hit.
Maybe check out Silven’s builds on Guildwars2guru? They’re on youtube, as well. That community has been around for three years or so and has a ton of information while these forums are just starting up (not to imply that people don’t know their class here, just that there’s more info over at Guru). His most recent build has made my Guardian basically unkillable (up to a difficult 3v1) with burst that is absolutely monstrous.
Can you link these? I’ve had no luck finding them.
It’s an amazing ability. I use it for emergencies to give me lots of umph when fleeing zergs in WvW.
I’m also at level 32 and frustrated with my Guardian in WvW.
The lack of “compensation” in terms of XP for doing our jobs makes it, frankly, a class that gets the shaft. Our shields are nice but I have warriors specced with stability just walking through them constantly, the tomes we have are a death sentence because they take so long to come up, they load a new task bar loads, the you have to choose a new skill with yet ANOTHER wind up..it’s just almost useless. I’m just hitting a dead end with mine…the idea sounds great but you just don’t get rewarded enough to make it worth it, and that steadily gets worse the higher in level you get.
I will say having idiots fire repeatedly into my wall of reflection does make my day though.
(edited by VisceralMonkey.6128)
Merciful Intervention doesn’t appear to actually do any healing, at least for me, on PC characters. Not sure if this is by design or not, but I don’t even bother with it because of this.

Does it display weird floaty characters instead? I get that. I think it ’s normal, just weird.
i did test with fresh installs of windows 7 and windows 8 and the results of the fps difference is what i posted in my original post
Win 7 SP1? There’s something wrong with that. Your system would have similar result both in win7 and win 8. My brother tried both win 7 and win 8 both clean installs and he never got any performance gains in games. Only noticeable difference is the boot times.
Still, his observations still matter if anyone else i having the same problem and would like to give it a shot as a last resort. Just do a new partition, install win 8 and GW2 and see what happens.
CPU, CPU, CPU. Honestly, it appears that you need, at a minimum an i5 running at least 4.2* or more to run it well. And AMD? Forget it, they just don’t even get close, even the “high end” ones.
It’s entirely possible with win 7 your missing very specific mb drivers or something that might be included by default with win 8.
Never-the-less, it’s certainly worth getting more people to try out. I’d do it myself, but I can’t find any current drivers available for my Asrock z77 extreme4 MB in win 8, which would mean the hardware wouldn’t be very optimized as opposed to win 7.
Hmmm…urge to upgrade rising. But the huge range on those differences is very weird indeed. Those win 7 numbers are obviously messed up to being with, but I wonder what it is that’s killing it for win 7 for you?
(edited by VisceralMonkey.6128)
It’s the engine, it just runs horribly. Like WAR horrible, and there’s probably not much Anet can do to fix it. I think people are just going to have to accept current performance levels, there’s no magic bullet for this one…even turning down effects wont help a whole lot because it’s so CPU dependent. It’s like the engine EQ2 used in some sense..just kitten backwards and not fixable.
It should be noted, there are NO new GW2 improvements in this driver, it’s just the “official” version of the beta from last week. I’ve also read a comment from an Nvidia developer that a LOT of the performance problems this game has are not GPU but CPU, there’s not a lot they can do apparently.
