Okay. Then give us more than 2 viable builds in return. Because we don’t have them.
Taking away culling is great. It’ll get rid of all those players that use it as an excuse. But nerfing stealth like this without even seeing how culling affects everything is premature. Stealth and mobility are our only means of defense—which is really to say we have no defense but just avoid everything. Now, we’ll just be shadowstepping around watching fights because we’ll be so busy waiting for that Revealed debuff even after having not attacked.
This is silently really affecting Condi builds too, because we’re going to get that many fewer opportunities to use Sneak Attack. Why bother fkittenucking waiting for the right opportunity to strike? We can’t now. Now we’re forced to use it even when we don’t want to… or suffer the revealed debuff anyways.
Sure, we’ll adapt. But we need something in return. More gap creators or closrs so they can’t just dodge away and let us get revealed to swat us. Shorter invis CDs.
This is like looking at a Guard and saying, “No. Once you’ve had your boons stripped you can’t stack them again for a few seconds.”

this is not a nerf for stealth, it is a nerf for PERMA-STEALTH by CHAIN CND on mobs or npcs.
if u cnd then sneak attack this nerf do not affect you, you get revealed anyway and the duration of reveal stays the same so i dont understand why u said that there is less oppotunity for sneak attack, unless u chain CnD on a mob to gain long stealth, which shouldnt happen in the first place.
i agree that thief have no defence. thief survive by avoiding dmg, which is way better than any type of defence. there were times i play p/p build with only stealth being SR, and i still barely die. withdraw, roll for ini, shadow step, 15 in acrobatic, even Zhaitan s having a hard time to get me.
more gap closer for thief?? 2* sb5 + ss ==3000 distance within 2 seconds, if u turn ur screen do a roll for ini then sb5 again u get another 1000+ distance within 2 sec, and they are all blinks, not affected by snares.
just my suggestions:
1. have revealed buff added on after leaving stealth, regardless dmg dealt or not. will stop chain cnd into a zerg.
2. From-stealth attack triggers reveal, regardless dmg dealt or not.
3. add 0.25 cast time to steal.
shadow refuge is fine as it is, chain cnd and pre-cast are broken. for those thief who always got knocked out of SR: dont cast in front of enemy’s eyes, or dodge end-to-end if u do.
Ah, the L2P and “all thieves are just better people” arguments. What would a thief discussion be without these?
More likely – bad players are getting held up by an overpowered class.
The L2P and “people are garbage” observations go both ways. Just so happens thieves are the exception to the rule and are solely populated by good players? LOL
It’s not that playing a thief means you’re better. I’t simply that soloers are better players than those that play in groups by necessity.
Most people who like to play alone and dislike groups tend to pick stealth classes in MMOs for avoiding zergs. This causes the stealth based classes wind up with a higher population of people who focus on dominating in PKs from the release of the game, even before anyone knows what balance is like.
(TLDR – Playing a thief doesn’t automatically make you pro, it’s just that good soloers with allot of experience in the genre tend to roll stealthers for soloing, giving the thief a high concentration of great players compared to other classes.)

First valid point I seen in a while. I wouldn’t say a missed attack, but a blocked attack should definitely force a reveal since the attack did “damage” but was mitigated.
Why not a missed attack? Other classes that miss an attack, due to blind or poor positioning, get their ability on cool down, shouldn’t thieves have the same downside like everyone else?

i dont think being blocked, miss or dodged count towards [dealt dmg while stealth] in current state so thieves can spam from-stealth attack until it hits without triggering reveal timer.
once again, bad mechanic is bad.

just sit in wvw and you will eventually get them all. well i have 2 toons both have wvw completion waaaaaaaay before whole world completion. i spend most of my time in wvw.
you will see people saying “underlevelled squishies stay away from wvw”, and btw if kill counts towards score, we will see more people playing professions that kills alot but barely dies.
hammer is for fat charrs, and norns, asuras use lollipops
if u compare it that way, of course thief is better. i can kill more and escape with my thief, but spamming 2~3 skills feels cheesy, and doing chain CnD on people or npc just feel dirty, so i m back on my warrior. and btw i dont care about badges that much so less kill is ok for me.
+300 Healing Power would benefit the Vitality Tree a lot more then it would the Toughness Tree, the Toughness Tree does not even have healing abilities.
That’s precisely the reason why it isn’t in the Tactics tree. It would make warrior support builds more modular and free-form than Anet apparently wanted them to be. The trait trees are supposed to have interdisciplinary synergy with each other, and we’re supposed to have to make hard choices to get everything we want.
then how come thieves and ele can have precion and critical dmg in a single tree? looking at ele, fire attune does direct dmg and burning, trait tree adds power and condition duration; earth attune gives protection and lots of bleeding, trait tree adds toughness and condition dmg; water attune gives healing, trait tree adds HP and healing power.
definition of warrior is Doing Dmg with a steady body(forgot the exact words), while the stance tree doesnt increase boon duration for longer stance??
i use the exact same build few weeks back, but op, dont u feel bothered that there are soooo many hard counters for hammer warriors in wvw? fighting near camps, those thief npc guards, who spam blinding powder and projectile the blindness to u will negate a big chunk of hammer cc, and chill cripple will cripple the already bugged earthshaker, makes me very frustrated
in sPvP CnD is toned down, only does 66% of damage; in sPvP there is no omnomberry to give glass cannons sustain; in sPvP there is no NPC or Wall to get perma-stealth from chaining CnD. So why compare sPvP to WvW?
Instead of complaining about thieves everytime you got pwned why not try to suggest something usefull on how you would change the class?
of course if you don’t know anything about thieves and just like to complain and see them completely deleted from the game, do not post anything…here’s my suggestions (coming from a thief):
1- add a very small casting time to steal (I think something from 0.2 to 0.5 sec should be ok). 0.5sec is the actual casting time for C\D while steal is an instant skill, that’s why every thief can use the combo C\D – steal – BS.
Cloack&Dagger was ever meant to be precasted before steal, that is like an exploit.. just try to fight a glass cannon thief that doesn’t use precasted C\D and you will see so many differences, if the thief is good can still win but so can you, and you can actually dodge better his combo.2 – C\D should simply not work on walls, gate or every not animated thing, also make the revealed buff to appear everytime a thief goes in stealth mode, and not only when he actually does some dmg.
Also add 1 second at the duration of the revealed buff, from 3sec to 4 sec and of course fix the culling.3 – this is a pve change that will work in WvW too, just improve the AI of mobs, so that when a thief goes stealth, they just don’t reset the combat. I mean at the moment with the culling problem and with the possibility of using C\D on everything, even a fly, many thieves, even myself, are using every mob on the battlefield for exploting the culling.
There are 2 solution: or remove completely every mob from WvW, or change their AI so they don’t lose aggro on the thief when he stealth and goes out of stealth. In this way the thief can still use every mob at his advantage but he will have more things shooting at him once out of stealth.I think those 3 changes will put the thief in the right direction
Good suggestions. coming from a thief who have tried almost all builds, a 900 distance blink with a pre-casted CnD that leads to either a BackStab or Tactic Strike which could be done in a second is just cheap.
op u seem went p/t/v gear, and u want good dmg?? when i go pure p/t/v, i hit 700+ on average people, crit for 1k which is nothing. if u want to keep p/t/v gear and some damage, get full exotic ruby trinkets, and trait for 0-20-30-0-20, earthshaker + hb should be laying down big pressure.
after reading it three times, still have no clue wut u said

i use this for wvw and pve, with greatsword and rifle and hammer, switch weapon and SOR depends on how hard the fractal is.
P/T/V armor soldier rune, ruby trinkets.
In fotm, more important thing is to know how to run it, i use to run shout heal build, but 4k heal every 20 seconds doesnt help much on some teammates who doesnt know how to run certain fractal, or doesnt bother to spend 150 tokens to get 10 AR. Also, a mango pie can easily cover up the heal.
Edit: sitting at 3100-ish armor, 24k-ish HP, 3100-ish attack, ~30% crit chance with no buff.

i use soldier runes and normally cleanse conditions before using earthshaker just incase i only jump halfway, but i shouldnt always need to do that, since its a F1 skill thats already bugged.
the thing is that cripple or chill can be too easily applied, most cripple has low cd and if we fight frontline we will always be slowed, rendering charging skills useless.

you cant. but u should have no problem to escape. i just ignore them, even though u could get them to low, they will just shadowstep away and u r 1200+ distance from him, not worth the time.
and even having an overlypowerful proccessor like mine doesn’t help?
no its on their side. server bandwidth cannot handle such big data that includes 50+ people/mob with all those detailed cosmetic stuff. if the server doesnt send data for 50 people to ur computer no matter how powerful ur pc is there wont be people/mob on ur screen. they came up with the idea of inplementing a placeholder last patch though, and they are working on more fixes.
full P/T/V will put u at 27k+ health and 3300+ armor, tbh i dont see any skill that can two-shot u.
i run p/t/v with soldier rune, some knight gear but will turn into p/t/v soon, shout heal traits, 26k health 3200+ armor, not as tanky as expected but feel very sturdy(maybe cuz i m a fat charr )
did we all go into the stereotype of there is only d/d burst thief in wvw?
i havent seen a post about how to defeat a s/d or p/d thief and there are a lot of them in wvw and their builds and traits are the ones capable of chain cnd siege

I m in JQ and i too have seen party members goes off-line but still shows a blue dot in some random area in wvw map.
also, queue time is getting ridiculous now. on tuesday night i queued 2 hours for EB.
i queued for more than an hour last night (not even server prime time), then i found out that there is like total of 30 people in there, cuz all commanders were yelling in map chat to get people to defend SMC and less than 20 showed up. few afker in other towers, but the number still didnt add up to a amont so big for an hour queue.
after we lost SMC i switched toon try to donate some siege weapon to the commander, guess what! I SAT IN ANOTHER HOUR OF QUEUE!!! i know that there were less 30 people in EB so where did this queue came from??

i dont see thief abusing culling as a Huge issue cuz normally it takes like a second to cull in a thief, in a small group fight. what makes culling as an issue is when portal bombing, 20 people ports in at the same time causing a big lag in server, takes like 5 or more seconds to cull.
what really annoying is those perfect timed CnDs, on illusions or pets or npcs. if using the shadow art traits and done well, no revealed debuff and can chain CnD many times. this has nothing to do with using culling, just re-apply stealth right when it wears off. according to devs, its working as intended, but well… its annoying.
depends on the type of thief. honestly u can tell what type of thief it is by looking at the weapon.
(i run p/t/v hammer shout build)
d/d and p/p, glass canon. d/d will try to burst u down with steal+cnd+backstab then a few heartseeker, easily countered with fear me then hammer whooping. p/p will spam Unload on u, countered with savage jump+shield bash+hammer whooping. they have 11k health normally with no defence, once they are chain cc-ed into my hammer, they are done. some of them carry a stun break but most of them dont.
p/d is condition bunker build, they use cnd then stack conditions, normally 17~19k health with many escape abilities. i use shout to remove condition and ignore them. not worth the time.
s/d or s/p is kinda like a versatile build to me, they have some defence, some hp, not bursty as d/d bs build. they have a daze, a gap-closer which may also act as a stun breaker or a teleporting skill, and many escape mechanics. normally i ignore them cuz they will always run away if they want to. most of the time u will see them trolling ir group with stealth and shadowsteps, which serves no function in winning wvw.
i run a similar build with hammer and sword/shield. traits are falling reduce dmg, missle reflect, last stand, merciless hammer, leg specialist, shout recharge faster, healing shout.
p/t/v gear with soldier rune, half ruby half emerald trinkets.
i use hammer for fights, always jump in and run in circles and stir some ape crap up, then switch weapon and shield block then jump back.
i dont crit alot, my crit only hits like 2k.
i hope they are putting some ways in the patch to solve this, or else my duplicated rings and wrong stat rings and pristine relics are just taking my inventory spaces.
if u r standing on places thats not the “ground”, it wont work. i found that when i m standing on a big waterpipe, or small hills, try to infiltrate away, it wont work, even no gap in between.
it could be perfectly timed cloak and dagger + refuge, but op also said that there were heavy aoes thrown on the dead, that triples the reviving speed and puts the thief’s life at risk. how did the thief survive ur heavy aoe is beyond my knowledge.

i have never taken my shortbow off my secondary weapon set, no matter in fractal or wvw. cluster bomb is the cheapest blast finisher in the whole game, and its spammable! stand in healing spring + 6 cluster bomb == 8000 aoe healing. longest range weapon for thieves, very useful in many fractals where if u stay ranged u could avoid lots of agony attacks.
^ if u want nice dmg, go look for a thread named something like [s/d d/d oh my…].
perma stealth needs d/p and traits for stealth, since u r using p/t/v, u will lack crit to make back stab bursty, and u dont really have other damaging attacks on that set

there is no revealed debuff applied if u wait for the stealth to wear off without doing any attacking. So, u just need to time it perfectly, when the first CnD’s stealth start, u stick beside the enemy and wait 3 seconds, then channel one sec for another CnD, then stick around and wait 3 seconds, rinse and repeat, until the enemy comes back from AFKing and starts moving around.
between gw2 and harry potter 1~7, i would choose gw2.
one fractal daily, daily achievements, wvw. every once a while i try different build on my toon with diff armor sets(prob why my gold count never reaches 30 :/ )

i m not a big fan of dungeons, but on my warrior toon i have a full set of p/t/v sitting in storage just in case i go into dungeons one day. i normally spent my day in wvw, running berzerker with offensive traits, everytime i go dungeon i need to re-trait into healing shout build, and change armors.
after a few runs(with pugs) i realized its more of the person than gears. i.e. five signet warriors, mf geared players, no matter how i shout they go down in a snap.
dont even wanna mention the ones with commander icon out refuse to listen to others.
it would be interesting if stealth change into half transparent while invulnerable/cant be attacked, instead of completely turning invis and still be hit by channeling spells, and causing culling problem.
reason why OP cannot craft +103 power rings at the moment is that they are ASCENDED gears.
Max craft gives EXOTIC gears AT THE MOMENT.
Anet already said that ascended gears have BETTER stats than exotics prior to Nov 15 release.
No such ascended gear recipe is implemented into crafting YET.
therefore OP cannot craft +103 power rings AT THE MOMENT.
Also, Anet already stated that they will implement MORE WAYS to get Ascended gears, so in the near future, OP might see some ways to get it without setting a single foot into fractal. however i doubt the mats needed to craft it will come easy.
try a condition build with d/d, signet of malice, caldrop and death blossom spamming, easy 18 stacks ofbleeding on mobs, waaaaaayy faster than p/d single target bleeding against mobs. each death blossom heals multiple times, tons of rally cuz mobs always bleed to death, and more loot than p/d. p/d is for 1v1.

i have a rifle warrior(10-30-0-0-30) before creating my thief toon(25-30-0-0-15).
my rifle warrior crits alot more than my thief due to S of Rage, and i can cast For Great Justice during channeling(thats prob why my KS always crit, 10-13k, if i m lucky to hit someone). I like Volley too as it gives me 8-9k dmg with FJJ and SOR. My adreno is always full because i have [less adreno spent on F1] and [shouts boost adreno] and [crit adds more adreno] trait.
My p/p thief… i am an Unload spammer. i barely use first skill unless i am fighting a glitched fractal boss while tabbing out afk watching some youtube video. i ve never used second skill and Black Powder because they cost too much with little return. i have now stopped using 4th skill, i thought it is good to interrupt stomping but i normally see 2 or more people stomping one player at the same time so i would rather not waste my ini.
My Unload hits 5-6k.
although p/p doesnt seem as good as rifle warrior, i ’d rather roll with it, simply because of the current route bug that exists within all bullet/arrow projectiles.
Yes i am talking about bullets being blocked by thin air. it tend to happen when the bullets fly through certain type of terran(even its flat land), the bullet glitches and wont hit, and it only happens once in a while(i ve never seen two bullet glitch in a row) if character is moving. The bug has bugged me horribly cuz it caused a chunk of my Kill Shots hit nothing at all, put my skill into CD and roots me. For Volley, if one shot is glitched, i lose at least 1.6k dmg during the channel; for Unload, i lose like 800dmg , which isnt too bad because i can spam another 2 loads of Unload and they wont glitch.
in case u guys havent noticed, if u get rooted by one of those Binding Root skill, try destroy the root with pistol or rifle, none of the attacks will hit.

This exploits is very different than flipping mats in TP.
By flipping stuff in TP(in stablized market), u dont make money out of thin air, u r simply taking money from other players, u gain from the other player, and whoever sold the stuff to u, lose money, therefore, no massive incoming or outgoing in the entire economy. Although u r ripping off other fellow players, the money flows around players, economy is stable. i.e. buying a lobster near coast and sell it at central.
before the exploit, there was a constant cost and gain of ecto in the market, keeping it at 33 silver.
By converting 80 mithril + 2 snowflakes into 15-30 ectos in the forge, u r not gaining from players, u r gaining from the system, so out of nowhere lots and lots of ecto flows into the market while the total coin in the system remains the same, it will cause ecto price drop and ecto related things like rares. its like changing metal into gold using ur newly developped alchemy, will make u rich but will also drive the economy down.
yes it is a design flaw and yes its anet’s fault to have this flaw but it is each individual’s fault who used this flaw and drove it to a certain degree that can “put the economy at risk”.
so there are people suggesting aoe reveals stealth, and some people suggesting only direct hit reveals stealth, but one thing that bugs me is… how does one define whether a skill is an AOE or a direct hit?
i have a staff ele so i think my meteor shower is an AOE skill since its got a big green circle and hits multiple targets. but what about my Churning Earth? does my Churning Earth counts as AOE as well? they both hits multiple targets, the only difference is that one has green circle to target and the other one is centered at the chanter. If Churning Earth is considered as an AOE then what about other skills that hits multiple targets around the caster? ie: auto-attack of a warrior using sword, or gs, or hammer, axe, mace, staff guardian auto-attack, do these auto-attacks count as AOE as well? if they are AOE and AOE breaks stealth, then as long as the warrior or guardian is whooping his weapon(which is always, during fights) there is no point of using CnD. (staff guard auto-atk only covers the front , but axe war auto-atk covers almost 360 degress)

i have a warrior and the rifle sound effects are so plain, and its the same effect as the engi’s. the pop-gun brings some change which is good, but what about the pistol?? i have bought a Wintersday pistol skin for my thief and its the same sound effect as all the other pistols.

i checked the pistol of ilya and lyss on youtube, they are all purple but they still have the old effects therefore not worth the cost of crafting it, would be nice if any of these two expensive pistols can have cool effects.
so u want a piercing feature? like warrior’s rifle when traited?
our Ricochet trait suppose to serve as our version of it, instead of piercing, it bounces
on top of my mind we have DD burst build, P/D condition build as the most popular in wvw.
i have a full set of carrion and i ran a P/D condition build until last night. With carrion, i have 20k HP, 5% crit rate, 2.5k -ish attack, with bleeding ticks at ~120. my direct attack hits around 350. With this build, i can stack about 7 bleeding and troll the enemy, but i need to constantly get into melee range to use Cloak and Dagger which was a problem to me cuz the whole point of using a pistal is to stay at range(just personal opinion). Besides, the firing rate of pistal is very low so it somewhat feels lacking. Barely die when equipped with shortbow and shadowstep, shortbow 5 *2 + shadowstep will wrap u at least 2500 distance away, if u have enough ini. nice survival in dungeon btw.
