This is unfair. Organized guilds going into edge of the mists to farm people trying to level and get thier achievements. Anet needs to cap the amount of people from the same guild per overflow. We already can’t get these stupid achievements in regular wvw because of queue, now we are getting farmed by these organized groups. Not going to say who, but the dinosaurs are jerks.

too bad ele’s are still terrible. that’s like using scholar runes and saying bunker d/d is the best build ever. Takes 2 life blasts for diamond skin to be rendered useless, not to mention mesmer phantasms can easily do 10% of your hp.

If the condition meta was a problem, the solution was to nerf the conditions or make them less accessible. Instead, they introduce very specific things to the game that makes you able to deal with the meta. Berserker stance? AED? Diamond Skin? Defiant Stance (not sure about this one though).
So, explain to me, how pigeon holing the eles into the diamond form build would “save” the game?

It’ll make people not run cheesy condi builds in fear of running into an ele that is playing this spec. To counter the ele, burst damage is needed. In relation, there will be a rise of power builds and a new meta will form around power and burst. Staying condi based will not suffice because of this new counter.

I’m actually not trolling btw, being completely serious.

I’ll help once the 10th patch comes around. Nothing interesting to record in the current meta :P

It will stop cheesy condi specs and push the game into a quicker power meta. Finally we can break out of this stale meta and force people to spec more glassy with burst. Not only will mesmers, eles, and thieves make their stand in the meta once more, but the game will become much more enjoyable to play and watch. Great idea with Diamond Skin, ANet!

There are no ‘viable’ targets anymore to really burst down. Look at cheese mode’s comp in the previous ESL tournament, 2 warriors/guard/sd thief/ranger. There really isn’t a viable target in this 5 man comp that you can engage on, lol.

edit: risk/reward is very skewed in terms of builds right now.

Would you really consider your argument as long term problem that cheese will always be uncounterable? Also, i’m not sure if you noticed or not but you can switch characters before the match starts to hard counter the quite obvious builds your going to face. This would be classed as strategy too and used often by top teams :P

Long term? Probably not, I’m just speaking for the moment. It’d also be a hard task to find a specific countercomp for the aforementioned team. Maybe something completely different that nobody has devised yet is a counter. But the simple fact that there needs to be countercomps is stupid in itself. The ability to outplay your opponents should always be available and with an essential comp of 4 bunkers(3 of which are pretty much dps) and a dps which can disengage whenever it wants with high mobility (sd thief), it’s pretty hard to outplay, other than if you just play the exact same comp yourself.

Edit: Not many people really switch classes before games anymore. I’d honestly advise you to get back on track with mist league which seems to have disappeared for some reason instead of trying to offer people advice in a game which you don’t seem well versed in anymore.

Although that last part could have been said nicer, I completely agree.

What he means is, anyone can be a full bunker and dish out mad DPS which makes for a very low-risk, high-reward type of gameplay. This type of play throws the meta out of whack and results in what we have now. Unfortunately, it’s just the state of the game atm. I personally can’t wait for the 10th, especially Diamond Skin. This should HOPEFULLY push the meta into a more bursty power one.

I’ve competed at THE HIGHEST LEVEL in tournaments. I’ve competed in all the big tournaments in Guild Wars 2 (never won, but still). I can personally say that once your mechanics are refined, it all comes down who has the better build or who’s build counters who. Having properly timed dodges etc make no difference because 90% of the cheese is spammable. Sorry to break it to you guys, but if you are playing to win a match, you are holding your team back if you aren’t using a gimmicky build.

I came back to the game a little late unfortunately. I LOVE THIS ARMOR. Is there any way I can buy it or will it be released again? Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease!

No. The game is dominated by builds, not skill. No point in playing to win if you don’t use the cheesiest specs possible.

They might be entertaining to watch or hear, but if they aren’t providing enough information so that someone who has never played the game before can know what’s happening, they aren’t doing their job. Unfortunately, the game is very unforgiving to shoutcasters because of the “slow non-risk, high-reward” meta and an overload of particle effects and very hard to see animations. An example of a game that is shoutcaster-friendly is League of Legends. This game is easier for shoutcasters to cast because EVERY skill is easily identifiable and if you were to play a replay (which happens often in tournaments), you can tell a play-by-play of what happened and why it turned the fight in ones’ favor. GW2 just isn’t made to be “esports” because no one can cast it or even watch it and understand what’s happening.

I disagree largely with this. It’s true that we don’t have any good casters, but the experienced eye can easily tell what’s going on. It just so happens that all the casters in the game started casting because they couldn’t play the game at a high level so they turned to casting for success instead (sorry, but it’s true and you know it).

It is also true that particles are out of control and AI is dumb, but the lack of casters isn’t because the game is hard to understand—because it isn’t—it’s because there’s no interest in casting because the developers ignored PvP for so long that many people quickly figured out that the game wasn’t gonna go anywhere anytime soon.

If/when the competitive scene rises (l0l) I guarantee we’ll see actual casters that understand the game mechanics show up.

The issue is, if someone has never seen nor played GW2, do you think they would understand what is happening as the game progresses? I can say that I’ve played this game at the highest level (maybe not successfully, but been a part of it nonetheless) and I still have a hard time following what is happening in team fights because there is such a plethora of effects. Although there are shoutcasters that do a good job entertaining us, they simply cannot cast properly because of how the game is. If you recall from previous tournaments, I believe it was Grouch and Blu (don’t quote me on this) that had literally nothing to say during a team fight because they couldn’t tell what was going on and proceeded to joke about how the game was such a petting zoo. No surprises here. I’ve just figured out that you should have have extremely low expectations with each balance patch so you aren’t dissapointed. I’m not impressed by the lack of caring from ANet, and for this reason I won’t be returning to the game. By the rate they’re working at and how much resources they invest in PvP, I wouldn’t expect much until S1 or S2 of 2014.

Nothing needs to get “up to par” with warriors, necros, and rangers. Those 3 need to be toned down. Everything does way too much damage too quickly with no risk. Slowing down the game will make it more fun for players/shoutcasters alike.
