With the recent changes to how gearing for pvp works, I’ve been left in the dust a bit for how to proceed. Lately I’ve been getting the urge to spring for a pve build, but not really sure how. I was hoping to find a way to salvage my pvp build into something that might work.
The build: http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?vIAQNBMhNakpjqQb8wAE6QDIoHaYVIgnCJR6RYwGrBA-TkAg2CrIATBmDMDYSwsgNXA
I know I need to find a way to swap out the condition damage for pure damage, but I would like to find a way to keep the tanky/support-ness of the build. One thing that is a must is to find a suitable sw/wh and longbow or axe/wh and longbow setup. These are the weapons I enjoy the most from what warriors have to offer and I’ve had the most trouble trying to balance out traits and gear to accomplish this. I’m also hearing some conflicting things about zerker gear and have always leaned towards knight gear for it’s defense boosts.
I’ve also been reading that mixing zerk and assassin gear no longer gives better dps than going full zerk.
Not really sold on that build.
Lately I’ve been experimenting with different guardian builds to no avail. I don’t enjoy zerker builds that much and I don’t enjoy sword/focus builds very much either. I’ve recently devised a build combining aspects of pve and wvw into a heavy defensive playstyle http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?vUAQNAS5el0ApaodDxVI0ENhkpYlQQMFY0Hd9AicoGC-zkCBoLCyUDQ0HwEIAEBgZPFRjtMMs1RDRTXCSpaI1AA-w
The conceit is to be heavy on personal defense while also being able to support others on the side. I know soldier gear is called a crutch by the more hardcore players, but I want to play for fun. Basically mace/shield and hammer are used lockdown enemies and buff up yourself and others. Scepter would be used for ranged battles and staff would be good for extra support and mobility.
So as a first time theorycrafter, how is this build? I would like some input before I start spending gold on changes and gear.
I actually use Staff as my primary weapon. It’s autoattack is an AOE and if specced right, it can hit like a freakin’ truck. Like 1K hits to 5 mobs at once. Orb of light hits everything in it’s path for 1200 meters and can crit for 2500+. Symbol of Swiftness can be used as a DOT and an HOT (Damage over time and Heal over Time), as well as a Light Combo Field, in addition to granting swiftness. Empower is an amazing group heal AND group buff, with 12 stacks of might to increase everyone’s DPS. Line of warding is good for controlling mobs and the Light combo field. So I find Staff to be superior to Greatsword on many levels. And the two synergize well together.
I typically run with Staff/Scepter/Focus. I like the Scepter/Focus combo for ranged and boss fights, and staff for when I gotta get up close and deal with lots of mobs.
Hammer also synergizes well with GS, and it can hit pretty hard. But I like the versatility of having a ranged weapon slotted for when I need it.
Bottom line: Greatsword/Staff is a good combo. Followed by Greatsword/Scepter/Focus.
Do you mind posting your build? I use staff as a secondary myself, but so far I only use it in very few instances. Here’s the build I am using http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?fUEQJARWlYg67GHSKEfIFRuA7DEs6x8un9wUgxMC;TwAA2yoEQJhSFlCKKZMyIkxKjTGpMA
Well, Human cultural armor looks cool for guardians, but Norn fit the spirit warrior theme better.

What would you suggest for runes and sigils? I’ve been wanting to try a better Guardian build. This is the GS/Staff build I am using, but it’s starting to falter and I’m kind of lost on how to gear for it http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?fUEQJARWlYg67GHSKEfIFRuA7DEs6x8un9wUgxMC;TwAA2yoEQJhSFlCKKZMyIkxKjTGpMA
