Hi,
My mesmer is now at level 71, quickly approaching the point where I’ll be going to get my exotic gear. However, as I’m pretty poor (I don’t like CoF and hang mostly at WvW which sadly nets me little to no gold), I have to think about which armorset I’m going to get. The goal would be a set which has maximum flexibility so that I can play multiple builds in WvW/PvE dungeons with it.
I did something kind of similar with my guardian who is equipped with a soldier’s set with lyssa runes for additional precision and the elite boons. As a result, I can play a few different builds with him by swapping the trinkets and weapons (DPS = berserker, sustain = cleric) alongside the traits. Now i’m looking for something like this with the mesmer.
I have about 1200 AC tokens banked so it would be very easy for me to buy a soldier’s set. But is that a viable set for the mesmer? Power is of course the main stat but would the damage still be too low for condition or crit builds? Soldier’s would be good for dungeons though, I think. I’ve been running some AC with level 65 green berserker’s gear and I feel the conditions are hurting me way too much at the moment (the cleanse mantra helps a bunch, though).
What are your opinions? If I can go for only one set of armor, which one should it be If i don’t want to be stuck with a very specific build?
A quick question here. I bought the quaggan backpack skin and transmuted it onto my exotic soldier’s backpiece. Now, I’m going to buy the Fractal Capacitor (the exotic version) from FotM. I was wondering
1. Will there be any problem with transmuting the skin from the soldier’s backpiece onto the Fractal Capacitor?
2. When I later on upgrade the Fractal Capacitor into Fractal Capacitor (ascended) and eventually into Beta Fractal Capacitor (infused), will the skin persist on the item or will Zommoros steal my cute quaggan?
Thanks a lot for sharing this build.
I was formerly using a meditation burst build with zerker gear in WvW and although i could drop almost any lone opponent pretty fast, I wasn’t that powerful in skirmish situations against 3 or more opponents.
So yesterday i bought the gear you use here, adjusted my build and went to do some WvW (though i practiced a bit by doing a few dungeons)… it was awesome! I felt like i was untouchable by the opponents and i had no fear charging in 1v3. I even managed to fight 1v4, finishing 2 of my opponents (they were upscaled, the 2 others weren’t) before an additional player joined them and forced me away. Though by that fight I had managed to stack up my sigil of life to full stacks so i had a whopping 1550 Healing Power in that fight (I don’t have ascended stuff except the rings which happen to be lunaria and solaria, my backpack is exotic soldier with sapphire orb). Even though my damage was low, my opponents would eventually go down by my constant autoattacking and retaliation damage.
I was using Save Yourself, Hold the Line and decided to swap Stand Your Ground for Retreat! What’s your take on getting retreat to the build? I found myself lagging behind my 2 mates every time i tried to switch it away. So I left it in and stomped using the focus 5.
Anyways, thanks a lot for buffing up my WvW performance!
Why does a big guild member get his trinkets in a bit over 2 weeks while it takes over 8 weeks for a member of a small guild to get his?
Because it’s ANET.
From my own experiments, whenever I salvage rares, I ALWAYS get less ectos than rares used. I think the average would be about 7 or 8 ectos per salvaged lv80 rare.
So I don’t think the salvage rate is that high.
This is like a slap in the face for everyone who doesn’t belong in a big guild. Small guild members and solo players are totally screwed.
Think about it. 2 commendations per guild mission type per week. 5 guild mission types. 10 commendations per week. Thus, getting the earrings will take 2 weeks and a day. Or 15 days. And 10 gold.
Everyone who is not in a guild? Too bad for you, You will have to grind for a minimum of 60 days. And oh, it also costs 40 gold.
TL:DR: if you are not in a big guild, getting your earrings will take 45 days more and cost you an additional 30 gold. It is a 300% increase in playtime and gold price. Do you feel it is fair to put players not in a guild over SIX WEEKS behind the guildies?
PS. I’m a solo player and always will. I’ve loved this game so far, but seeing this change, I’m actually considering dropping the game. This way my losses will be smaller than they will be if I stubbornly continue my daily work towards the earrings. Because god knows that 60 days from now one, there will already be another type of equipment I will never be able to get unless i’m in a big, powerful guild. If you say I dont need ascended, you are wrong. I play mostly fractals…
He is not talking about player behaviour. He means that ANET is tweaking the dungeons with the assumption of 5xlvl80 players when they should keep it possible to do at the required level, also.
The drop rate still seems abysmal…
During the last few days, I ran 5 Fractal runs, levels 10, 11, 12, 12 and 14. I got a whooping total of 1 rare. Yes. 5 runs, no mob skipping in maw, and 1 rare. In addition, I got a exotic which is account bound and wrong armor class for my character, also got 3 cores from the jade maw chests (between 6-20s each which is unimportant). So 6 hours of playtime netted me 1 ecto.
I don’t think they are gonna drop anytime soon.
Mesmers are godlike in every single aspect of the game.
Wanna do a dungeon? Looking for Mesmer!
Wanna go zerg in WvW? Does anyone have a portal mesmer?
Wanna roam solo in WvW? Prepare to meet some mesmers.
Well, I kind of lied. Because they aren’t that good in solo farming PvE. But not many people actually do that after level 80.
Finishing from stealth is BS, everything else is fine. I think all the downed abilities could be toned down a bit, especially the ones which move the downed character. This is because at the moment it takes just an unreasonably long time to kill a downed thief or ele. I mean, they are already downed, why should it be hard to finish them after that? Imo downed state is only for a small window of opportunity for your allies to save you, not a state where you can make the whole enemy team run circles behind you.
In another topic a dev said that they are looking to fix it. It’s definitely bugged when the mob hits you when you are standing a meter BEHIND it and it’s hitting the ground in front of it. Also, you can even get stunned just by walking near it even though the initial stun was dodged. In addition, sometimes you get stunned by the leap, pop a stunbreak and get immediately stunned again.
First I couldn’t log in even on the forums.
Now I can log to the forums, but still not the game…
EU, Farshiver Peaks, error code 34 and 42.
I dont use VOIP. I just don’t step into the room until I’ve typed those few sentences and made sure my party knows what to do. I can make my party wait those 10 seconds i need to make sure they know what we have to do.
However, if someone is dying in this room, they are just bad, and THEN no amount of advice you give can help. Maybe i’m lucky then but I haven’t had people who are so bad that they can cause it to fail alone. Anyways, If you get people like that, you will probably fail in any dungeon, not just CoF p2. That means the problem is not specific to the dungeon and route, it is specific to those bad players! Good luck with AC kholer if 3 guys get downed every time he pulls.
I actually do have some free time so I might be a bit biased, but I don’t really do the dungeons for the rewards. I do it because they are fun themselves. If I want hard cash I’ll go to CoF p1 (and no, I don’t really think about it as a real dungeon until it’s changed) or Orr. AC runs are just for fun. (I already have a full AC armorset so I don’t even need the tokens)
If you want to get the rewards as fast as possible, I suggest using gw2lfg.com and request a experienced party. However, think about it this way: when you were under level 80, I bet you got to run dungeons with other people who were already 80. What would you have thought if they didn’t want to play with you at all and everyone kicked you when they saw you weren’t 80? That wouldn’t feel good at all. You were helped when you were a lowbie – It’s just a right thing to do once in a while to return the favor!
Well, maybe i sounded a bit too harsh here, but calling targets isn’t just for the looks. You are saying you can’t kill the assassins solo, and I think it actually should be so. Try to communicate with your team beforehand. I always tell my group that everyone should attack the marked target (cos some of them won’t attack it even if i tell them to) and mark themselves if they spot an assassin. If you get even 2 or 3 guys DPSing the assassin, it’s possible to stop it from almost point-blank range. If all else fails, go stand in front of Magg yourself and try your best. This way, I have actually never failed the Magg room, with multiple different parties.
If you cannot call target on each of the assassins yourself you have no right to call it a gear/DPS check. It will only become one if the assassins are spotted way too late when they are like two or three steps from magg.
Personally I NEVER kick a low level character out of my party. Nor do I kick for using non-meta classes like engineer, necromancer etc. I have the fortune to have leveled my first character (a guardian) to level 80 so I will be accepted in almost any group, and I want to give others the chance, too. If I see multiple low level characters in my party, I know it’s probably going to be a bit harder run, but so what? I dont mind explaining a few mechanics to them, so that they will learn and later in turn advice newer players.
Yesterday I got 2x level 35 players in my AC run. Well, both of them got instagibbed by the flame stairs in the beginning, leaving the rest of the party 3 man the queen spider. I bet some of these elitists would just have said: “screw this” and disconnected, ruining the dungeon. But we carried on and had actually great fun. Most lower level players actually communicate more than the “thx for the run” in the end which makes running a dungeon also a social event.
Not to talk about these 5 signet level 80 warriors who run in AC like a boss and die to every trap and mob about 10 times. Their level 80 doesn’t help crap if they dont understand the dungeon mechanics.
