Trying to get back into GW2 after being gone for a while. I’m still stuck on what to play as!
I enjoy having allies, and I would like to make a theme using a costume I have in the wardrobe, which is currently Blathazar Regalia, pirate captain, noble count, and shadow assassin.
I know Ranger has a pet, necro have weak summons, and engineers have stationary turrets. I don’t want to play Norn because I just don’t like the race, despite the free worm.
Anyone have any suggestions?
condition damage, boon and condition duration.
They also scale with level. But that’s it.
So, going for condition damage, boon, or condition duration, they will hit harder? Or their actives will?
Only condition damage since forever I believe, they didn’t do it for turrets or even ranger’s pet as a class mechanic I gave up on that but scaling is a lesser issue compared to pattern.
Well I’ve been looking at the forums and seeing that they plan to rework the trait system, so it might help out minions a bit more.
My other concern is AI, which is still pretty bad.
I’m wanting to get back into the game, and noticing that they haven’t done much to fix the minions. My biggest question is; Do they scale with anything yet?
If you played GW1 EoTN, you can get the Heritage gear that has some of the iconic armor in GW1, such as the Warrior’s cover art in the original GW1.
That’s what I said, “And at least the original GW1”
You can also get the Orange Tabby on any character if you played/have GW1 EotN. Just link your GW1 HoM with GW2.
I’ve seen people with that cat. It’s a great cat. I wish the other cats looked like that. Beggars can’t be choosers, I guess.
Do you really just have to ‘own’ EotN to get the cat? Or do you have to have a bunch of ‘something something’ points to buy it? Or is that for something else?
Yes, you actually have to own EotN and at least the original GW1 to get the cat. Unless you know someone else who has it and doesn’t want GW2, who can hook the two accounts together.
All you really need to do is get completion progress in certain areas, like beating campaigns, doing PvP, getting legendary gear/weapons, and giving Heroes armor sets.
It’s all calculated here: http://hom.guildwars2.com/en/#page=main&details=kHAAAAgfAsCAAACAAgjAAIQAEEBAAAAAOOEIQAAAAAA

The megaserver is still affected by what world you live in. Honestly, I haven’t run into any of my guildmates because they are in TC and I am in Kaineng. Unless I party with them and get pulled, I’m going to be a loner showing off a tag nobody knows about.
I was wondering that, If i were to delete all my characters and transfer worlds, would everything in my bank get deleted as well?
This would be a bit upsetting as I would love to transfer permanently to TC and get out of Kaineng. For the sake that my friends and my guild is a TC-major.
Any info would be great, thanks.
While we’re at it, can you add a new way of obtaining this? I missed out on the living story due to a small break but I really want it. If you’re going to change the functionality of it, I don’t see a reason that other players have a chance to get one too.
Maybe some players didn’t want it with the current functionality, but if you changed it they might have changed their minds.
The tonic was a living story reward, so people that won it either tossed it away or put it in storage. The only way I see it coming back is bringing back the Divinity Arena and making it a reward for reaching tier 2 or something.
Either way, it still doesn’t need a cooldown.
Honestly, this is one of the best tonics out there due to the actual combat ability. But—I never use it. Nobody uses it. Why? It lasts for five minutes and takes 30 minutes of logged -in time to use again for a measly five minutes.
It’s like a new race (Despite human emotes) and gives the community some fun. So why add the 30-minute wait?
-There’s no in-game buff on use.
- You keep the same skills and they don’t refresh cooldowns.
- There’s no jumping puzzle advantage, as any normal Human or Sylvari model can do just as well.
So why the long cooldown? It’s fun to RP with and fun to use when waiting on events. Plus, who doesn’t like that mecha-booty?
They need to make an RP tab to allow RPers to get with others in an instance together! It’s hard to find people in DR and other popular RP areas since the new megaserver came out.
I haven’t seen a problem since I started guesting there (Got into the RP spirit lately). At most, i’ve seen one group but they have stuck closely to themselves and ignored others.
i’m making the most out of mine before the next Halloween when everyone will be wearing the costume.
Making me jelly
Anyways, I dunno what to get with them! Is crafting to 80 still around 40-50 gold? If not, maybe I could try my fun with getting another endless tonic.
Since GW2 Devs have gave a hint at bringing back old outfits for a short time, do you think they are pulling out he Mad King outfit anytime soon?
I say this because I have 1200 gems in my account I haven’t used for a long time. I want to either sell them for gold and get a level 80 character through crafting, or wait it out for that awesome mad king since it’s combat-enabled.
Anyone have any ideas?
I feel like mini pets are being bought or found and then shoved into the bank because they take up so much space to have more than 2 or 3. Why not make a place like in a home world (Where the nodes appear) and put a mini pet stable to show them off and let them roam around?
And the arena that used to be in LA….Are they going to implement something for it? Like a polymock that uses minis and not figures?
What ‘normal’ level 80 armour? Nothing will be changing outside of Ferocity replacing Crit Damage.
In terms of stats, Exotic is a step down from Ascended and Legendary (which, statwise, are equal), but is higher that Rare, Masterwork, Fine and Common.
But isn’t this upcoming patch changing that stat-wise?
No, you have to equip/bind, destroy or salvage the item to unlock the skin.
So, getting a weapon with a new skin and then tossing it away gives you the skin?
I would think putting it in your inventory. Because some classes can’t use certain weapons and armor, and the wardrobe is account-wide. Y’know what I mean?
Will this affect armor? As in…will my exotic level 80 gear be just as powerful as normal 80 gear in terms of armor and stats (If they are the same type, like berserker).
And if so, how will the scaling work now? Would the armor amount change every 10 levels or so?
Thanks for answering.
I admit, GW2 is a pretty fun game to have around when i have people to play with. Coming from GW1, WoW, and LoL, i find this game a lot more casual. But then there are some problems to it’s semi- casualty.
I feel that gear should be all stat-equal in terms of color. Ascended gear is too much of a power in this game at the moment. Why can’t we make this gear more for the skin instead of a power? There are some players that can’t / refuse to obtain this gear, and always will lack in power when it comes to that choice. For me, i hate grinding, and just love to play around with friends. But we can’t WvW competitively because of this ascended gear that was released (and we REALLY want to).
I feel that making any level 80 gear have the same stats, but different skins, worth it for both the casual and grinding players. It balances things out and allows the grinding players to have the advantage of skin instead of stat, and allow the casual players to try their hand at facing others.
As for PvP, i would like to suggest a MOBA PvP style for GW2. The current PvP is alright, but can be very zerg-based or confusing to someone who hasn’t seen this style before. A MOBA style would allow for more competitive team-play and keep it from being based on camping for cap zones. I’m not saying get rid of the current PvP, but offer some variety to it.
Another PvP idea i had (while in writing of this) is a sort of stand-off PvP like they had in GW1. Where you had a set team that would fight for last-team standing. This allows battle-heavy players to have more fun in terms of showing off their skill.
Finally, the servers. I feel like guesting has caused players to just mob into the most pvp-winning servers and leaving other servers abandoned. (Keinang seems semi-dead after guesting arrived.) Some servers die all-together once WvW stats come up, and they guest to the winning server. I feel that having less servers or a stronger limit on guesting would greatly help the dying servers and lessen the feel of some players being alone (causing some to quit or wait until their server gets better).
Maybe ANet could host a large all-out Costume Brawl in a certain city for the weekend or on a certain day of the month?
I feel that costumes and toy weapons aren’t worth much into getting unless you can use it to a full extent.
I also think that a mini-pet arena would be fun to play with. Something like the old polymock game in GW EotN. It would make collecting minis much more enjoyable and make it better than they already are.
This is my Ranger. Their play style is just amazing, and Slyvari Rangers look like anime characters.
i have played both ranger and necro, and started an engi. To me, Necros are very fun! But i can’t continue them until they fix minion AI and maybe make MM viable again.
Rangers are fun, i have one that looks just like Cloud Strife. They are great at evading, 2nd only to thieves. They can melee well and have amazing range ability. But, pet AI pathing needs to be fixed like the Necro.
Engis are fun. They have a technical 4-weapon kit with various skills, turrets (good for tower defense fun), and can use their utility skills at variety in terms with their slot skills! But…burst is a bit low at the moment.
As the title says, i think picking up a turret should allow placing it somewhere else instantly. If it dies or explodes, i think the cooldown should start up.
Also, we should get a ton of engis in one server and play Tower Defense. Get people to pull enemies in a path. Or ANet could make this happen :P
If you want to roll a melee ranger, i’d go with a sword / warhorn. But you can’t just go melee as you will die fast once you run out of evades. You still need a ranged weapon to keep yourself from falling off in PvP.
So, for anyone who likes to roll Minion Masters; use Well Of Blood!
Why? Because i noticed this does wonders for keeping a party of minions up. The ticks keep them healed a good bit, and the melee minions love it. In Pvp, people will either tend to avoid you or kite you.
This is when you use Shadow Fiend for blind and Flesh Golem Charge for the knockdown. Follow the golem, WoB, and voila! You have a stack of take-two-shot kittens attacking a single target for great damage and surviving (when traited).
I really miss the old Beta Minion Masters. They seemed very powerful and had many more minions to hold onto. But now, they can’t seem to go any further than chew-toys for hungry players and monsters alike.
I wish they would make them into something again. I loved the MM in GW1 (before the Minion limit ;D ). Anyone think they will ever get some love?
I mean, i still run around with my Bone Fiend for the immobilization skill it has, but that’s about it. I still run lich form, spectral grasp, the condition eater skill, and the sigil that pulls conditions to you (along with bone fiend).
TLDR; Condition Necros are still great, but i’d love to see a necro grab more build variety and maybe some more utility use out of the summoned minions.

People always bash because Cloud is a human. But Slyvari actually seems to fit better. I tried making a Cloud as human, and i couldn’t get the spiky hair like Cloud should have. So, i guess ill just need a makeover kit to perfect my little plant guy
So, i decided to roll a slyvari ranger. I had fun running around killing things. I found some dye and got my HoM armor….then….this.
I didn’t notice until someone PM’d me saying if i was suppose to look like Cloud Strife.
What do you guys think?
I was rolling new chars, and i made a Slyvari ranger. Got Black dye from a unidentified dye drop, and i got PMed i looked like Cloud Strife. Now i want to change my name
What do you guys think?
A lot of you seem to be thinking of classes you consider the weakest. I am asking for classes that require skill. I agree, Engis take quite some skills to be viable. I see Mesmers take skill from their need to use skills in perfect sequence and timing.
Kittens? Overnerfs? Who cares, any skilled player can always find a way around that and do just fine with them.
This skill is actually a prime for the sword as a Ranger. You aren’t heavy-armored, so evasion is a plus. I used Hornet Sting to either evade AoE, an oncoming attack, or to fall back and use a healing skill. Monarch Leap sets me back into battle with a few damage points on the enemy after i have healed/ set up troll urgent/ evaded. Combine with things like Lightning Reflexes; you are pretty much as (if not more) evasive than a thief using the dodge rolls.
I’m sorry that I only can give nput on the ranger proffesion but what I can say is:
The Ranger may be a class that is quite easy to learn and it’s ridiculously good in open world pve. The challenge cmes when entering pvp and dungeons where learning to manage to makes a really big difference, learning when to switch your pets for every new fight can be quite anoying but it pays of. I myself have 500hours of playtime on my ranger and I have alot left untill I can admit that I master the class.
I seemed to enjoy melee rangers. The macro-management is a worthwhile skill when mastered, and helps in many situations. Evasion is a subtle key to how i played with them, and didn’t really plan on going ranged like they were meant to. They are good, as you stated, but don’t seem to give me that “challenge” unlike the necromancer does (in terms of timing and managing skills. Especially Death Shroud and the Minion skills.)
I always thought Ele’s were a bit overpowered and easy to play, noting i’ve seen them everywhere. The attunements are a challenge to stick to and remember what does what…but i still love how they can burst.
Engis, i haven’t played much and thought they have small burst and a large utility. I know kits can be hard due to their uniqueness. I love being able to have a technical “4 weapon slot” due to those kits :P
I was wondering what class i should roll. I have tried them all to a certain extent, but i wanted feedback from players with classes at 80 PvE-wise.
I don’t like faceroll classes or classes that can just murder others without even trying. I love a good challenge.
This is regards for PvP and PvE
Thanks, Esplen. that really helped. How do i contact guilds if i cant find any around?
(I’m being serious, i don’t see any guilds around where i travel.)

I was wondering if anyone had GW1 and would help me earn some HoM points? I currently have 15 and i am hoping to get to 30 soon. I would love some help because it’s kind of hard to solo for me.
