It is very impressed video! I run the same build/weapon/skill like u. Have some questions and appreciate for the answer. First is the use of Mirror Images. I find you like use it after Cry of Frustration. The build is focusing on Mind Wrack. If we do not have 3 illusion alive or the illusion is far away from enemy, the damage will be reduced. I prefer to use it more with Mind Wrack. The second is rune and sigil choice. You use Rune of Hoelbrak which is great condition time reduction and might stack. So why not use sigil of battle to stack more might? And I like the rune of centaur to maintain perma swiftness with endless tonic to avoid heal cd. Will the lack of swiftness can let use outrun thief or warrior? The third is the armor stats. You choose more defensive stat on vitality. Do you think it is better than toughness? Or let them half half?

I like the build in zerg. The only problem of this build is you cannot stop any one who just run away… The more a enemy engage on you, the more damage you deal to him… But I cannot tolerate enemy running away… I think only shatter build with high burst is for a roaming chaser.
it is a good build. But a warrior can counter it by endure pain and 100b back and mesmer can mirror image blur frenzy and shatter. It depends on reaction… Because u think u are safe after cc others, i can cc break immediately and invulnerable damage back…
And for the post, I think u need a ranged weapon to keep pressure on enemy. sword is good, but decent player will dodge sword 3 and then u have nothing to do with double swords main hand
Just for the record, you don’t seem to understand what the shattercat build means. Shattercat = shatter build made by Osicat. All of the shattercat variations are his. If someone else makes a build, it is not a shattercat variation because Osi didn’t make it -_-.

Woah sorry bro I didn’t mean to offend…but Iv’e never posted a build on the forums before, so I don’t know what you mean. I run a variation of shattercat mist myself. I assure you I know of Osicat’s builds, and I have a lot of respect for him. I just don’t know why one wouldn’t use a weapon slot

I just make a joke. The play style of a shatter mesmer is indeed like a cat. U keep distance with ur enemy at first. Then u find time to use sword 3 to jump on your enemy and deal burst damage. Then u jump back and keep distance. It is really like a lovely cat…
The staff is a very defensive weapon. If they get chaos armor up, and you hit them, then they start getting regen and protection while you get confusion and blind, which is bad. Using sword 2 and iDuelist activates these effects even more.
I usually run Sw/F and Staff. I don’t really like GS because it’s pretty much purely offensive with no defensive utilities.
But if you MUST have a GS (I will admit, they look cool), then either switch out your pistol for a focus so you can pull them around a bit, or simply switch to a staff, so that you can be just as defensive as them.
Generally, as a mesmer you need to stay as mobile as possible, so I would recommend taking Decoy and Blink for stun breaks/getaways. For even more mobility, you can go with Portal. Just put if off to the side before you head into a fight, and put the other one down when you are about to die to escape. I usually do Mirror Images instead though ‘cuz I shatter a lot, but It’s whatever you like.
yeah i agree with u. Position and mobility is important to a mesmer. The reason why i prefer gs is that i hate the slowness of staff. After landing a great burst by sword and change to staff, the sustaining damage by staff is awful… And if u run sword/ focus, gs, it is hilarious to watch thief out of shadow refuge and die.
Hi, it is glad to see a gs mesmer. I am a gs, sword/x shatter mesmer who beats staff mesmer easily(maybe i did not see a decent one). Here are my tips:
Know the advantage of gs and disadvantage of staff. GS is great at ranged while staff is great at melee. Summon zerker ASAP when u see that mesmer and kite him. Do not try to get close to him and use sword shatter combo since he is more willing to get closed to u. When he gets closed to u, change weapon to sword. Try to use sword 3-2-shatter combo to burst him. But I do not think any decent mesmer will be hit by this combo. If he uses sword 3, dodge it. If he succeeds, use sword 2 or distortion to avoid. Then find appropriate time to shatter or sword 3-2-shatter. After shattering, change to gs and summon zerker while run away. Keep ranged and kite. Watch out the chaos storm. Never go into it.
Over all, gs mesmer outputs more damage than staff one. But staff is good at melee and defense. Land a good shatter burst on a staff mesmer in melee is hard. Use ranged shatter and kite him is another choice. Remember, the play style of gs mesmer is keeping ranged and do sustaining damage. Change to sword whenever u can give a burst or u are in danger. Then change back to gs and do sustaining damage

In the build, better not shatter for damage due to the lack of DE trait to generate clone when dodging and trait that considers yourself as a clone. And the damage is not high. You may shatter for daze and invulnerability.
This build is very viable to be a mimic star. Mimic your clone’s motion and confuse others will be interesting.
I think master of manipulation is good since 1200 range of blink will be more helpful to escape and catch. But sword CD is OK as well. Choose the one you like better.
I like rune of centaur better since u have 2 stun breakers which are enough to deal with stuns. But you do not have swiftness.

You do have a lot of survival ability in this build. But I doubt your damage. Your build is more like a phantasm build but image has low damage. I think torch is a good weapon for shatter mesmer since it helps you with gap closer and surprising shatter.
Could you explain why it works pretty well and under what circumstance?
First, mesmer is not good at tagging compared to the Guardian since we don’t have much ranged AOE and we do not wanna go melee often and shatter. Mesmer is useful in zerg most because of veil and portal.
Using gs/sword focus is my favorite in zerg. GS is the best ranged weapon for tagging. gs1 will give 1 tag per hit if u go zerker. gs 2, 3 ,4 are good AOE skill. You can use gs 4, 2 and F1 to make a ranged combo. Focus 4 is interesting because it is a pull skill. Use it to pull enemy down the wall. The melee combo i suggest is sword 3 – 3 – 2 – mirror image – F1. That is the best burst combo.
Staff is great as a support and survival weapon but not good at tagging since staff 1 is slow and chaos storm’s damage is not high enough to tag. Use staff when u roam can keep u safe.

visit a crowd server while leveling. Do dynamic event and save money for crafting. craft cook first since it is cheapest. Craft to 400 give u a 10 level up. go to wvw and gain experience while have fun in zerg
I think there is no loading bar appeared under the enemy’s life bar when he is casting the skill. Right?
Then how to judge it efficiently? Just by watching his animation?

What’s “Aftercast?”
Have u played DOTA? It is the animation after u cast a skill. Like u hit some one with ur sword and u need time to return to your normal position and use another skill. It is hard to be aware of in this game though.

another way is to use stun and ileap combo. pistol stun and go go go and ileap. The skillful enemy will know when u use ileap and they dodge. Thus the closer u and ur and enemy, the better u cast it successfully. If u are on top of him, u can even double click ileap and it is 100% success.

actually i am red-green color blind too…. There is a somecolored line there though…. Hard but still there… be aware of it more and u will adapt to it..
How about just making the skill only unusable when in range or give some sort of indicator that you are in range instead of just giving us the ‘out of range’ message and putting the skill on cooldown. Same goes for the exit portal, iBerserker and any number of other range conditional skills.
There is a range indicator under the skill bar. If it is out of range, there is a red line under the icon. Though there is no indicator for portal.
It works well for me now. If it is buffed, I’ll be more happy…
Three ways:
1: try to stop the summoning of phantasm by blinding them or obstructing them by LOS.
2: kill the phantasm as fast as u can and jump top of the real Mesmer.
3: escape. Phantasm mesmer cannot kill anyone who just don’t wanna stay and fight.
Specifically, If he use s/p gs, his weakness is defense. Jump on top of them and fight. If he uses s/p scepter/s or s/p staff, his weakness is attack. You can get rid of them and disengage the fight.
I use phantasm mesmer only in spvp with s/p scepter/s. If u fight with me and u die since the block and attack has great damage. If u disengage, I just stay and wait in the point area. However, the more people in the fight, the less useful of phantasm mesmer.
You need to be more skillful than him so that you can win.
Awesome 1 v X video ! Could u tell me how to complete phase retreat forward without looking back? Your phase retreat is so quick! I know there is a faceback key but it is very slow to change the camera.
Decent build! 2 cents from me: your 2 sigils on main hand and off hand both have 10 second cool down. Do u think they can be triggered together and triggered more than 1 time in 10 second? Have u test sigil of force with 5 % damage when reflecting? Or you can choose sigil of accuracy with 5% crit chance. For the cooldown sigil I prefer sigil of fire to deal more aoe damage.
Another question is can shatter be blocked? If I blind the mesmer player, will the shatter miss? Thx
I used to be a phantasm mesmer. After seeing your video I find how amazing a shatter mesmer can be. I just wonder will you beat Pyro’s phantasm mesmer build?
i use scepter since i wanna use sword and pistol as offhand… block is good anyway
My first char is thief and now I am mesmer as u. Mesmer is weak in the beginning since the phantasm and clone are easy to die. I suggest u to craft to level up to 10 or 20. If u cannot master the class well, u can use staff/sword/pistol at first since it gives u good defense and offense. U will find how amazing mesmer is in the pvp and wvw.
Ah, I thought you meant perception. I don’t believe that accuracy actually increases your crit chance on the char window, and it also does not work for illusions.
It does increase the crit chance in the board. You can test it.
re: Sigil of Accuracy (+5% Critical Chance)
No, unfortunately. Your illusions will benefit from your Precision (a base stat) but will not benefit from your Critical Chance (a stat derived from precision). This also applies to the Sigil of Force, which will not grant the +5% damage to your illusions.
This is similar to how your illusions benefit from your Power (a base stat) but will not benefit from your Attack (a stat derived from your Power and Weapon Damage total)
That said, stacks of Precision from a Superior Sigil of Perception (+10 Precision per kill, up to 25 stacks) WILL affect your illusions, since it applies to your Precision rather than to the overall Critical Chance.

That is correct. The stacks do apply to your phantasms.
That is really awesome! So do u think it is better to use sigil of accuracy than Sigil of Perception( Precision stack 25)?

Sword Phantasm is relatively weak, but hits fast and has a Leap Finisher, giving it added defense with comboing. If you can get 3 out, it’s hard to escape them… and they’re probably the easiest Phantasm to get 3 out with, too.
As for Torch being kittenty, I agree it’s bad in a Phantasm build, but it’s not a bad item for defensiveness, you just might not have enough offense with it as a Phant build. If you were in a shatter build, I would say go for it because you can use the Phant as a shatterbot.
The sword phantasm is not relatively weak. The sword phantasm is the most powerful single hit phantasm we have other than warlock with a lot of conditions on the target. In my phantasm build, my swordsmen regularly crit for over 6k a hit, every 3.5 seconds.
How can swordsmen crit for 6k? Do u mean spvp? My spvp swordsmen can only hit 4500~4800. I use rune of centuar and berserker amulet.
Depends on your build, your current might stacks, your target’s build, and their current vulnerability stacks.
Do you have 30 points in dueling? Were you fighting a glass cannon? Are you using runes of divinity for the crit damage (you’ve said you aren’t)? Those are all necessary in order to hit 6.5k crits with the swordsman.
I test on the golem… I have no idea whether they have toughness… My trait is same as your phantasm build. Maybe 12% crit damage of divinity increases a lot. I’ll try that rune. But rune of centuar really increases our mobility a lot… And its power and bleed time is cool as well…

This phantasm build is awesome and I use it to have a 14-3 win/lose in spvp recently. Here are some questions. First is I find the 20% reduction of sword skill only works for sword #2, from 10 s to 8 s. But when we change weapon, we have 10 s cooldown. After using sword #2, we change weapon. And after 10 s we change back and sword #2 just finishes the cool down. So I prefer dodge/illusion here. Since more illusion means more regeneration possibility and confusing. For the runes I use runes of eagle since I prefer high crit chance. I have 57% of crit chance without fury. But I have no idea on what crit chance is enough for this build. Have you ever try the runes of eagle? With this build, only using one time of sword 2 and 2 blocks will almost finish a glass cannon class.
