Hi there.
Many of you have already a cele armor and use probably Hoelbrak-, or Strength-, or Pack- runes, to boost your ele in a offensive way. I do that too. But lately I thought to use Monk runes again for more group support.
Think about it for a moment.
I play some open world contents with cele armor and zerk jewelry/weapons, like Tequatle or VineWrath. I do also pvp and wv3 roaming with full cele gear. In all those cases I am specialized in water and arcana too.
Both Elemental Enchantment (minor arcana trait) and Aquatic Benevolence (minor water trait) synergies well with the monk runes variant. Resulting in 25% more boon duration and 25% more healing for allies.
For example Elemental Attunement (minor arcana trait) last six seconds. And the heal increase for allies is also nice to have as an support class.
What do you think, and why would you (NOT) change to monk runes ?
LVL2: Thief
The +20% fear duration increase doesn’t work at all on my necro.
For example…
Reaper’s Mark fears 1 3/4 seconds long, when traited with Fear of Death. But when using Rune of the Necromancer the duration is still the same. Adding Terror makes fear do damage at the end of every second. For Reaper’s Mark it result in one time damage when at 1 3/4 seconds only. Combined with the Rune of the Necromancer should double the damage, but it still triggers one time only.
LVL2: Thief
Hey BT, sorry for the delay. Its was to hot when sitting near my computer.
I checked rage sigil in pvp and it has a 50% proc chance on crit , wierd. Yeah, I get it now. This brings me to my next question… Do you use an energy sigil, or paralization sigil, or how you regain endurance ?
Also I get the message with the defense specialization, but this is be the same build like the GS/Ham meta, with mace instead of hammer. Not saying this is a bad thing, but no more unsuspecting foe. There has to be a way to get arround that… For example, I like playing with friends and teamspeak, so adding a bit support should not be the problem. I like to team up with guards the most. I think condition guards using consencrations help me the most. Feel my wrath as elite is just the tip of the iceberg.
Atm I use strength runes, combined with force- and impact sigiles. 100% crit chance and 35% damage increase when stick and move + bloodlust + unsuspecting foe triggers. Much better than the warrior runes I was using before. Not sure pack runes will boost me more, except when I need swiftness.
LVL2: Thief
Thanks BT for the video. I watched some other stuff from you too. Really nice to find one that is playing mace too. But every time I watched you you were using skull crack after shield bash or tremor. I am still not convinced of hitting with skull crack without preparation. Any how, I have a few questions and I am willing to learn hitting with skull crack without preparation xD I get it now, that’s why you metition ballanced stance for my build and it seems more useful than dolyak signet.
You used tremor instead of bull’s charge and this freed an utility slot. What utiltiy worked best for you and why ?
What runes do you use and what runes I should wear in your opinion ?.. Atm I am wearing warrior runes to reduce the CD of weapon swap even more. But it felt like I could get more benefit of other runes, and your videos proved the same… There is a very low possibility to hit with skull crack every 8sec.
I dont get the rage sigil think. It has an 10% chance to proc. Does the panic dodge even occur often, and do you try to land skull crack with in time ?
I tried the defensive specalization before and it didnt helped me much to kill my enemies. There is no way to defend against two burst classes (except when using a tanky build) and I dont need passive utilites to defend my self against one enemy. For me its more a question of can I kill him quick or should I assist somewhere else.
I just followed the guideline of this meta, and you pointed out a good way with defiant stance. Adrenal health on its own doesnt heal much, and endure pain feels weak. On the other hand, shield master would be really nice to have, also last stand seems usefull. But when using a defensive specalization I will have a lack of adrenaline and will be forced to use cleansing ire and take damage. On top on that, blocks don’t have synergy with cleansing ire. How do you build adrenaline ?
LVL2: Thief
When I search for builds I do much tests on the golems first.
Then I try to kill Svanir and Chieftrain quick.
After that I start practice in yolo mode.
Builds I have created enter ranked when I had high scores often in unranked.
Along the way I always tweak and change things.
This makes it a good pvp build for ME, but its like SSoH already told you …
This has nothing to do with win and lost rate.
What about all the rage quitter and disco ppl, for example.
LVL2: Thief
Thanks BlackTruth for your response.
The reason why I have not choosen a defense specalization is because of my M/Sh weapon set. Two blocks with less than halve the CD of Defy Pain. Also I need something against range attacks, because I have none.
You can’t set up skull crack, without bull’s charge or any other utility to root the enemy. Shield bash every 20sec isn’t enough. Using a stance instead of bull’s charge would hurt the dps, because there are classes that can use a stun break every 25sec.
I think dolyak signet is stronger than ballanced stance. Sometimes I replace it with Frenzy. Stomp has also his uses, for example in the tower of Kyhlo.
I use SoH because of resistance, but you maybe right and I will test defiant stance.
Using a axe with dual wielding instead of shield and furious will reduce the ability to lock the foe in place by far.

Hi there,
I like to share the build I using atm and maybe get some advice.
After some tests I came up with the “Unsuspecting Foe” build.
Basically its the same build as the GS/Ham glasscannon meta, so the warri needs to stun/knockdown the enemy and than use 100b. But this variant is is more difficult to play than the GS/Ham, and its focusing on single targets. Therefor I like to play this with a friend, and we are indeed focusing single targets down xD In reward it stuns longer, dishes out more damage, and regain more adrenaline.
Check it out …
http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=-wBxg;1R2GM0f4oLkQ0;9;4deh;0246037148;4CwlB5;1H7W3H7W3a0V
Downsides:
- Never ever try to land Skull Crack without having the foe locked in place!
- Unsuspecting Foe only triggers against stunned foes. No knockdown, daze, etc
- vulnerable against condition builds
- No ress capability
First need the enemy to use his stun break and no stability should be on him.. Then I set up my 5 step combo…
1. hold the foe in place (with Shield Bash or Bull’s Charge for example)
2. use Skull Crack at lvl2 or higher
3. switch to GS and press 100b
4a. switch back on M/Sh when its ready
4b. switch into Rampage and do some more stuns followed by insane AAs.
5. rinse and repeat
This is so much damage and adrenaline gain. SC should always be ready when the CD goes off because of this combo. This means the warrior could stun every 10sec and between 1-4sec long, followed by 100b. But it wont work without team play when a profession has two or more stun breaks (like the mesmer does).
Frenzy can be changed for Balanced Stance when fighting heavy CC teams. Frenzy could also be changed by Stomp for the tower in Kyhlo, as an example.
I am not sure if this will be the final version, because I am always learning and would like to have some advice too.
PS. I would be happy to get some constructive feedback or answer some quetions..

Hi there again.
I am quite happy with the stunner build atm, but this is the wrong meta to play this. This happen before to me, and after I gave up on bloody wells the meta got changed and ppl played with wells xD
But thanks Capito, you gave some good advice!
I found an other warri build with M/Sh and it works.
After some tests I came up with the unsuspecting foe build.
Addition:
I edited the my first post and here is a link to the new build I am using …

Hi Capito, thx for your respond.
I tried / used the the full condi version with this build and settler worked best for me.
Also I switched to Krait runes.
But you right about the quick game atm that allow bust classes only, except one tank/support class at max.
Maybe switching the Hammer for the GS and use …
http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=-wg-Bx;0NKFM0d4NLkQ0;9;4deh;0246137147;4SsG2U;1H7W3H7W35p
With this stats the build has about 96% crit chance against stunned foes, knockdown or daze doens’t trigger the trait!
Still a stunner and combines well with 100b.
I need to do some testing and advice is always welcome xD

Hi there,
I like to share the build I using lately and maybe get some advice.
I had read about the stunner but didnt found any builds.
There are some simmilar builds out there, but none is for point defending/neutralizing and or to shutdown enemies.
But to be hornest this build doesnt dish out enough damage for this meta and defensive builds are less welcome atm. Its still a funny build to learn and play.
http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=-ws-Bx;0NK-N0d4wKkQ0;9;4dfh;0237137158;4CsG2W;1oHAhoHAh0L
F1 on each weapon has a cd of ~7 sec and result in a stun. Theoretically the warrior can chain stun an enemy. When hitting with F1 it wll restore 3 points of adrenaline at minimum, and weapon swap will also restore 5 points. Two more hits from or against the warrior will also restore points, resulting in one lvl adrenaline. Ready to use for a 1sec stun every 4 sec. Not to mentition the the shield has also a stun, and the other weapons have also hard CC.
Possible alternatives I found so far…
- solider amulet to get up to 4.5k armor w/ Rampage
- mercy runes for the lack of ress capability
This build is able to outstand over 30sec against 2 glasscannons.
Maybe much longer with soilder amulet, cause of +30k hp and toughness like a tank.
My play style so far…
I ware M/Sh at the begining of a fight to close the gap, while defend my self when getting damage.
M#2, Sh#4 and dodge is what I do to defend my self.
After taking/tanking a few hits I am ready to start my stun combo.
1. Sh#4 or Throw Bolas + M#F1
Never use M#F1 without having the enemy locked in place!
2. I Switch weapons and use Hammer#3, #2 and #5 in that order.
3a. At this point the adrenaline should have reached lvl1 again and in most cases the foe used his stun break/condi cleanse and try to flee.
This is the time when using H#F1.
3b. If the enemy is still arround I switch back to M/Sh for more defensive.
Rinse and repeat step 1 to 3 when entering adrenaline lvl 2 or 3.
4. Time for Rampage…
Adrenaline should be at lvl 2 or 3 before Rampage gets activated.
first I’ll always keep Seismic Leap on cd.
When the enemy starts moving I use Kick (+ Throw Bolder) + Dash,
and I try to keep TB on cd too and spam AA in the meantime.
5. rinse and repeat
I push enemies out of the point to neutralise them.
Stomp and H#4 help there, and those skills can also used to secure a ress.
Or before getting into Rampage, cause of its long cast time.
PS. I would be happy to get some constructive feedback.

Atm I play mace/shield and hammer but only in pvp.
Is really funny and effective, even with a lack of stability.
Utilities: Healing Signet, Signet of Stamina, Bulls Charge, Stomp, Battle Standard
Specialization…
Strength: Peak Performance, Body Blow, Distracting Strikes
Defense: Shield Master, Sundering Mace, Cleansing Ire
Discipline: Warrior’s Sprint, Destruction of the Empowered, Merciless Hammer
Equipment…
Celestrial armor with Mad King runes.
Air and Hydromancy sigile for m/s.
Intelligence and Paralysation sigile for the hammer.
LVL2: Thief
Now I cant dodge when immobilized at all.
Again I cant play pvp cause of this game breaking bug.
LVL2: Thief
I have tested several builds in 1vs1 against thiefs and my results are…
Nature’s Protection and Vigor works best against burst.
I can kill most thiefs with carrion gear and NOT having a single point in WS.
LVL2: Thief
(edited by Yuuki.1087)
I have same problem, autoattack stops after dodge roll and this is annoying.
LVL2: Thief
We had a bug that remove DS when get interrupted.
Sounds like similar bug.
LVL2: Thief
I dont think you can compare underwater Ranger with Mesmer/Thief/Warrior on land.
We have some need skills but no other class has clones/minions/slaves that can rezz at command without having teamspeak.
LVL2: Thief
I think the bug is to switch pet before activate downed#3.
Pet wont be in fight and can rezz much faster.
LVL2: Thief
yeah, good damage underwater doesn’t stop us to get rezz.
The only way I see for my opponent is to shutdown my pet.
LVL2: Thief
I’m a little shocked. Necros are possibly the easiest profession to kill next to warriors on the ranger simply due to ranger having an entire lack of boons, high mobility in combat, and much higher dps.
Maybe necros are a bit like rangers. You need to play them really good, and in the right hands they can be devastating. I certainly met a few necros that just blew me up with conditions.
My problem at 1vs1 is …
Minions can melt me down fast.
Its like Catssassin+Bunker with endless movement impairing.
LVL2: Thief
(edited by Yuuki.1087)
1. Projectiles gain regen for you only.
Whirl finisher gain area regen.
2. Only when trait Fortifying Bond is active,
other wise you need area effects.
LVL2: Thief
Try movement impairing on your enemies and speed boost for ya pet xD
LVL2: Thief
Mainly go for berserker or carrion.
Use 30-20-0-0-20 or 30-10-0-0-30 both with feline/drake pets,
or 30-30-5-0-5 with a support pet as campa mentitioned.
LVL2: Thief
Most ppl overlook RaO + Hunters Call + SotW/Sick EM.
LVL2: Thief
Warri guard ele, all no prob.
Mesmer and necros are the pain in the kitten ATM to me.
LVL2: Thief
I have tons of Videos they all the same.
If not a bouncing sword thief I can owned them all.
LVL2: Thief
Not spending Points in WS means you need to be more carefully.
Its possible, dont listen to ppl say bunker works only.
This is how I play…
http://youtu.be/MaqquDCMGGA
and I have still much to learn.
But I can tell there is always a counter even for Bunkers!
LVL2: Thief
Posting bugs IG doesnt work at all. Hmph I had petitioned this bug several times since beta.
I always lose target when switching camera.
LVL2: Thief
I dont know why you complain. This is pretty much game mechanics of rangers. Ppl can save stomp. In Addition your Pet heals only when in range and alive. When ppl start flaming its because they dont know what to do. ATM most glasscannons complain over it hrhr.
LVL2: Thief
I dont care for illusions as long I can dodge attacks of Phantasm and shattering …
If I can hold the mesmer at mid/long range and put conditions on him it should work.
Btw. block, dodge, aegis, … all works fine as damage absorb.
LVL2: Thief
Ranger can kill ppl fast, depending on both the ranger and the opponent gear/traits and playstyle.
Rangers have soooo many access to endurance regeneration that you can gear up a glass cannon and be pretty tanky via endurance regeneration.
Additional take two condition remove like SoR & HS when going for glass, or Empatic Bond when going for more defense.
I use carrion MS/BM atm and I’m pretty happy with it.
I have troubles against MM-Necros and the the immobilize/dodge bug, nothing else.
The pet does major damage on this builds.
For example you can spike down a enemy with cats or birds + RaO + Hunter’s Call + Sick ’Em
I can kill Svanir in about 10sec with this.
LVL2: Thief
(edited by Yuuki.1087)
Malicious training should work for the pet (the trait for increased pet condition duration). But I didn’t test it. Your own condition duration doesn’t increase your pets condition duration.
No condition duration increase for pets … this trait doesnt work since last patch any more.
combo:
I like the fire trap with my drakes, every 15sec I can place a flame trap and switch pets for extra might and weakness.
LVL2: Thief
(edited by Yuuki.1087)
Mesmer seems OP to me as long Sword#3 has the immobilize/dodge bug and this makes it strong with a shatter build more then anything else.
Nothing can counter this pressure ATM every 10sec, maybe full spec in heal/toughness/condition damage can hold against it.
This brings me to warriors…
A Warrior can counter immobilize on command with short CD
and that makes it interesting against a Sword Mesmer I think.
And on top of that I have seen some warrior bursting all illusions and the mesmer down
before something could happen.
LVL2: Thief
I have this bug too and this makes shatter mesmer OP in pvp atm.
LVL2: Thief
I’m wondering why ppl dont complain about it.
I remember this bug was September last year too and nobody complained.
The bug fix came about 1 month later I think.
LVL2: Thief
ok, its my g11 keyboard thats dying.
Thanks for the advice I need to by me a new one.
This thread can be closed.
LVL2: Thief
Autoattack (key one) doenst work too when straving left.
I dont think its my keysettings, but hey I can try different settings xD
LVL2: Thief
Topic is program at my acc since a few days (last patch maybe?).
I have bound “strave left” to “A” in keyboard options and Healskill is on key “Q”.
what else can I say…
I hope other ppl dont have this prob and start loosing fights.
LVL2: Thief
(edited by Yuuki.1087)
I notice this bug since a few days…
When you have two weapons in both hands you get benefit of one sigil only!
This is kind of major game breaking to me…
I didnt notice this at first and start loosing fights.
On top I had to choose new gear/stats.
If this is wanted there should be some hint,
for example one upgrade slots should be enabled only.
I’m talking of a pvp sigil bug only, I havent tested it on pve nor wv3.
LVL2: Thief
The big difference is …
Sick Em! boots your pet only and gets most benefit with max points in BM.
SotW gets most profit when used with max points in MS in that case both do 25% more damage.
Btw without SoBM I would use SotW with shaman’s gear/amulet only.
Caluclations alone doesnt work well when you have Sick Em! and a Boar or use SotW + SB.
LVL2: Thief
If you want underwater movement try LR. kitten that will send you flying.
This reminds me of Q in Goldfinger…
Q: You see the gear shift here, you put the top off and see a little red button.
What ever you do dont touch it.
James: No, why not.
LVL2: Thief
underwater you can use Spear#3 also
LVL2: Thief
- GS#3
- WH#5
- SotH
- Rampage as One
- 5 points in Skirmishing
LVL2: Thief
…
lyssa runes have the best effect for carrion gear and 15 points in shirmishing.
I run this gear as catssassin with GS and Axe + Dagger (30-20-0-0-20) in pvp.
For 30 points in WS I was using rune of the krait and more bleeding duration via sigils.
addition: not lyssa only but all precision and crit dmg runes
LVL2: Thief
(edited by Yuuki.1087)

Signets are huge support utilities and they can be used in most pvp builds I have seen and tested.
For example…
- stunbreak like SoR, or QZ, or LR, or WS-III Shared Anguish
- condition remove like SoR, or SoN, or WS-XI Emphatic Bond, or runes like lyssa / water / …, Healing Spring doesnt count!
- speed like SB#4 QS, or WH#5 CotW, or RAO, or SotH, or Skrimishing(5) Tail Wind, or Quickening Screech (Birds)
- huge damage and support like SotH, or SotW with MS-XI SotB
Grab some heal gear alongside SotW.
There are some Traits that effect your pets regeneration too…
- BM12 Natural Healing
- Skirmishing7 Carnivorous Appetite
As support ranger I would go for shaman gear (healing/toughness/condition).
This let much room for decent DoT and support via huge tank armor and cool traits in WS.
Bleeds with ~100 per tick are still strong,
while cleric gear (power/toughness/healing) has moderate damage only (not maxed damage, no crits).
As an Power Ranger I would go with carrion gear (power/vitality/condition) and increase crit chance / damage via runes and trait points and boons.
Berserker (power/precision/crit) with 18k life are squishy as hell even with SoS and tons of condition remove.
I wouldnt go for berserker at all.
Me and my friend had experience as a ranger duo, one month ago.
Both berserker gear and max damage.
We also tested several weapon sets and we got always the same results …
It took us less than 10sec to pin down any single target when not countered with reflect and most times some1 had to rally.
Activate a signet is more like pressing a panic button,
except SotH and SotW can be used more aggressive / offensive.
Most signets work well even without MS-XI Signet of Beastmastery.
Oh, and I almost forget to point out SoS …
This skill can be a life saver and a few professions only can get invulnerable via command.
Rangers can fight while SoS is active not like the Mist Form of dropping ele’s.
I had no problems to kill enemies in tpvp and now I can capture points even when signets are activated and I can use them more often \o/
Signets effects where good but with the shorter CD and fixes its even better.
Today and yesterday signet CDs feels just perfect to me.

First to say I’m theorycrafting alot and always try to stay away of the main stream,
cause I know what main stream builds are capable of.
My Engi (76) is still not 80 and its the seventh char I made.
I’m wondering why only a few ppl talk about bombs because I fall in love with it.
I have 30 points in Explosive for maximum boom, and 30 points in Inventions for huge support via Elixir-Infused Bombs and lvl65 cleric gear (without jewelry atm).
I can almost brainafk enemy groups in pve and hell I can get a Dolyak down while 2-3 ppl hurt me at the same time.
my build…
Explosive:
- III Forceful Explosives
- VII Explosive Powder
- XII Autodefense Bomb Dispenser
Inventions:
- II Explosive Descent, or III Metal Plating, or VI Cloaking Device
- IX Elite Supplies, or X Autotool Installation
- XI Elixir-Infused Bombs
This build lacks at …
- Conditon remove; only have Med Kit and Cloaking Device
- Swiftness; only have Med Kit
- Stability; can evade stunlock only via Smoke Field + Blast Finisher
This Build shines in melee fights, and it seems to surprise most enemies
The damage comes with Bomb#1-3, while Net-/Thumper-Turret and/or the Rifle hold the enemy in place.
Every 10-20sec I switch to Med Kit and get me some nice extra support packages and then I switch back to root the enemy and spit bombs again.
It needs a bit of coordination so you wont get hit to often and you wont miss the enemy.
Its always saver to run with a premade team and both sides take profit (area heals, area condition reamove, area swiftness, …).
It gets worse when your team pin down a enemy (group) and you all jump on top of that.
I didnt play this build in PvP jet but I’m willing to do that and then I share my experience with you guys.
But I have to get 42 SP first, cause my main goal is to reach 250 SP with this char!
I’m hoping you guys have some similar experience and wanna share it.
addion: kitten title cant be chanced, So I had to go with this topic
LVL2: Thief
Although i have been toying with the idea of having almost permanent stealth with the jaguar. I dropped lightning reflexes (ik not having a stun breaker is bad, but its just a trial run). So i toss down “Guard” for a 10 sec stealth +10 sec protection. Than as the stealth is about to run out use the F2 stealth for more stealth (and added crits
). Like to hear opinions on that.
Guard dosnt work like it sounds, in fact all Shouts dont work properly, except “protect me”.
Your pet will be shown with the first hit it does when under the effect of Guard.
LVL2: Thief
Really a nice idear to getting aggro while the enemy gets catssassined.
After reading this posts I fall in love with catssassin.
Chokolata Build seems very solid to me.
Did some1 test shaman gear with 0-0-30-10-30 build for wv3 ?
I tryed several variations in pvp with carrion gear and I came up with the following build (and I’m still testing!) …
Utilities:
- Troll Unguend
- Signet of the Hunt
- Signet of the Wild
- Signet of Reneval
- Entangle
Marksmanship 30:
- IV Signet Mastery
- VII Spotter
- XI Signet of Beastmaster
Skrimishing 10:
- I Pets Prowess
BM as always!
- for 1vs1 I found Instinctual Bond (Trait XI) more useful and SotW replace pet regen
Gear:
- Carrion Amulet
- Rune of the Krait x6
- Sigil of Intelligence for GS
- Sigil of Agony for Harpoon
- Sigil of Energy for the other weapons
Having SotW and not Sick Em! mean you have no buff cancel
and you can cast this skill before Stalk (F2) to fulfill the damage potencial even more.
With 20 Points in Marksmanship you can increase your pets crit chance when it is near you
and your pet has an additional opening strike.
Talking of fighting toe vs toe this build has it all…
It has huge HP pool via carrion gear and it has good support via Signets,
while deliver huge damage.
Hey and I will give Birds and double axe a chance, while most enemies start running away when they see me casting Signets.
Btw. I like the Siamoth as second pet too…
I found it useful for its plasma or stealth he is digging out.
