Necro Trait Synergy, Damage, Builds, Tradeoffs and Greatsword (PVP perspective)

I agree one million percent with our trait lines being so ineffective it seems it was done on purpose. The greatsword thing I could care less about, but if you are going to give us a weapon like that may as well give us 1h sword first.
Here’s what I think.
Spite – Precision/Critical Damage
Curses – Condition Damage/Condition Duration
Death Magic Toughness/Boon Duration
Blood Magic Vitality/Healing Power
Soul Reaping – Power/Life ForceAs death shroud kind of necessitates power in order to be effective it makes sense to pair the two, no?
This. Then we would be in line with other classes that have pairings benefit each other directly.
Honestly, I am not sure that they can be played effectively WITH minions.
The short answer is yes, there are at least 2 legit builds that involve no minions.
From what I gather now, casting =/= channeling. Channeling starts effects immediately and continues until over/interrupted. Casting effects only happen if you finish.
My beefs with the class are these:
-Inefficient Trait pairs. (Crit and Cond? Crit does nothing for Cond except proc super weak crap. Why not Crit %+ Crit dmg and Cond + Cond duration? All trait lines are badly paired, forcing you to hybrid)
-Conditions lack of viability. (several things here, first the itemization for Condition dmg is bad. You can run power/tough/vitaility but condition is always paired with either power or crit. Forces you to hybrid even more.)
-Fears. They are absurdly ineffective in duration.
-Minions. A total joke outside of the rare 1v1 situation and usually even then.
Past that I love the concept of a durable caster with zone control and/or attrition capabilities. They just failed in the execution of the idea IMO.
I would prefer Vitality, or even Toughness to go with DS
Crit Dmg should be with Crit Chance.
I feel our tree attribute parings are just terrible for this class. It was like they purposefully paired things you would not want together.
For the purpose of 400 toughness trait, what is considered channeling? Anything with a cast bar or what?
ET is to much for us in the mornings. They gain at least 3-5k every day during early hours. The zerg never stops….
Yeah but the Necro dmg builds are reliant on stupid enemy not moving out of circles.
I have accepted condition to be a secondary stat/source of dmg in this game and as such shelved my necro. I will try him out again later when things are less buggy.
I doubt they will be nerfing them. I would hope that they at least nerf steal, but I can’t honestly imagine they have even begun to look at balance before they iron out all the class bugs. The list for necros is huge atm, I imagine many classes are in the same boat.
They work. I think the crit one is 250 hp at lvl 80, and the regular vampiric is 25 hp. That seems low but if your using wells its per person per tick and is fairly good at keeping you on those walls in WvW.
Ioj has no morning presence. Loosing ground fast
Last week sucked. I don’t think we stood up to ET in numbers at any point besides prime time, where we would eek out what points we could from taking what few fully fortified defenses possible. Our oceanic hours are good, but not capacity and it felt like ET was always at 100%. Also does not help most of the Aussie guilds REFUSE to leave spawn until they have everyone in. So as they are taking the shift we are usually down 20-30 players and at a disadvantage.
It really did not help us last week that SoS decided to all but ignore ET due to cowardice and constantly attack us whenever we were on the offensive in an attempt to get second. Rumor was it was a bunch of ET xfering to really give us the screws but I don’t know about that. All the more pleasure gained from rocking their kitten this week.
I don’t really think SoS was trying this week. After the ET griefing our server’s WvW and siphoning players off to their server. SoS doesn’t really want to face them again. They’re not fun to play against. So we made sure we lost so your server gets the honors. Enjoy!
So you purposely get beat a week of play so that you don’t have to get beat for a week. Seems legit.

Even best case scenario with jumps tho, 45 badges a day. And statistically thats not going to happen, you are much more likely to get around 30 per day from doing all 3. And really that to is not likely, given que times and the fights constantly going on there.
So even in a perfect world, the supplement from doing jump puzzle is very low. And in a real world you may as well farm them off players because that drop rate is near the same.
I am not horribly concerned tho, the itemization on those is pretty bland with no real options for most builds.
And you can’t do that outside of WvW?
True story and hopefully an easy fix. +1
I said remove the camps not mobs entirely. And if the company feels pve should be in it as a reward then I just ask you put it somewhere people will actually fight over it. A cave in the top corner of the map far removed from the action that gives better drop rate is just asking for bots.
There are a good number of reasons you will never beat botting. Until then WvW is seriously hampered by the number of bots farming Skritt camps. Other teams are the only ones who can do something about this, and they have almost no incentive to do so. Even if they do kill them, the team they are on is out 20 members. That is a big deal on a full map.
There is no reason for skritt and centaur camps to exist in WvW anyway. What is the point? People should be fighting, thats what all those guards outside the mist gates are going on about. Even if these bots were a group of legit players who just wanted to farm Skritts what in the world does that have to do with WvW? If the idea is to give a good farming spot to whoever controls the area then move it somewhere people will actually fight for it (but that is still a very stupid reason).
Segregate PVE from PVP and end the bots ruining our experience!
Condition does not benefit from precision unless your talking about traits. And most if not all of those are really bad.
So… nothing said about addressing Condition gear with more favorable stats (such as con>tough-vital for pvp).
Is this gonna happen? If not can we at least know why not?
To help builds that don’t rely on power.
I have been saving my marks hoping for a mirror set to the power gear offered in WvW.
Any chance of that? I can’t find this set up on any gear in the game which kinda sucks.
I got 15 in lifesteal line. Its amazing with well spec in WvW because you get 25 per person per well, and 250 on crits. It is not terribly uncommon for me to regen 750-1000 hps a second during seiges.
I tried it for a while and it did not go well for me.
I think people just do not understand the amount of work required to do an MMO. People expect every new MMO to be as polished as WoW day 1. It’s just not gonna happen, and for the record WoW at this stage of its MMO life was a disaster.
From my perspective they are doing a great job. I don’t pve, so maybe Necros are total trash there and maybe not. But WvW if you are not enjoying yourself you are doing something wrong.
Once BOOM guild from Fort Aspen stops flying our orbs away everyday I will quit fear camping the top.
That crit trait is nearly worthless tho. 1 sec of bleed (one tick) and 1% life force for a crit. Woo.
They are not the same. My Ranger gets crit% coupled with crit dmg (makes sense). I would have expected condition dmg to couple with condition duration. In fact I think the Ranger gets that combo as well…
Anyone? There are only a few traits that give us any perks to crits, and afaik conditions don’t crit at all.
Help me understand.
I like mine. I have tried a number of other classes and find the Necro to be my favorite in WvW.
If you go well build your aoe and tower defense is insane. You are naturally a tankier caster than the other two options, but you also have nearly no escape tools. Most you can hope to do is trick people with spectral walk and you have to give up a utility to even try that. You are very weak against siege/doors and stuff because its immune to conditions so all you get is your auto attack. You can lay down aoe and keep people off, but gonna need help destroying it.
I have had no problem getting badges and loot thru the use of epidemic. Keep in mind that skill has a 600 range effect so it may be less than you expect (I still use it nearly always).
Yes I like it, as in if it stayed as is I would have no problem. If some of the things I said or others said happen I will down right love it.
I WvW mainly, and I use it to great effect. With well build, I run up drop everything in places I know will scatter the enemies line, consume the 80 conditions I just took and death shroud out saving my butt at around 10% health while my team takes advantage of the line break. I am always at the front or with the melees. I play my class like Swain, a tank mage.
Huh. I guess I am one of the few who likes Death Shroud. The Only changes I would like to see is if the 2 skill was targeted blink instead of a grasp throwing me in melee (maybe op, but anything is better than forcing me in melee. And if its a chacing skill then at least increase projectile speed so they don’t just outrun it.) Also, more reasonably, the removal of life force scaling on the 1 skill. Its weak even at max life force, and at less than 50% down right insulting.
My issues with the class is all the skills that apply conditions to yourself, and the only thing we can do with these self inflicted wounds is consume them every 25 seconds, or swap them at 90(!) seconds. This seems to be the theme of our class yet we are given little return for hurting ourselves. Then there is fear. The duration is a joke plain and simple when compared to other CC.
Also the bug fixes, but that goes without saying.
Short answer is no. There are at least two valid specs that I know of (probably alot more) that use no pets. That would be conditionmancer that focuses on dots and the like, and well spec for incredible aoe (crazy good in WvW).
However, I would just go mesmer If I were you. If you find the mes weapon skills lacking you will be outraged at the necro version. Do keep in mind however no clothy is going to have the brute force weapon skills of a warrior.
